Wide Screen Article (review)[edit]

Thanks, Emails, and HTML[edit]

Thanks for the cookie. I noticed that you've placed your email address openly on your userpage. Just want to say that it is discouraged to do that, as that makes it much easier for you to receive spam, among other things. What I recommend you do is enable emailing by going to Special:Preferences, entering in your email address, and then selecting the "enable e-mail from other users" checkbox at the bottom of the page. By doing this, users can email you through Wikipedia without ever knowing your email address until you reply to them. Once you've done this, you can replace your email on your userpage with a link to the emailing-feature, which can be done by linking to Special:EmailUser/Username (replacing "username" with your username, of course). Hmm, good question. In general, yes, you can. There are quite a few HTML elements that can be used that are listed here. Some elements are un-usable and have been replaced by Wiki markup, such as <aexternal free">http://meta.wikimedia.org/">Main Page</a> being replaced by [http://meta.wikimedia.org/ Main Page]. Others are simply disabled, such as adding images from outside links. Other elements can be used in both HTML and Wiki markup, such as bolding text using either <b></b> or the three apostrophes, or creating tables using basic HTML coding or the wikitables. In terms of getting into more complex coding, many elements will probably work, some may not. You can always experiment, of course, by just using the preview function or creating your own sandbox in your userspace. About your redirect request[edit]

I created the four redirects to Nutritionist for you (two different capitalizations for each one you suggested). You do not need to ask at AfC though or even go through the Article Wizard for that matter. Just type the name in the search box, click the red link that is after "You may create the page", then under the Advanced toolbar click the blue arrow in the "Insert" section. Then type the name of the article you want to redirect to, exactly as it appears in the article's title (copying and pasting). Save the page, and your redirect is created. And no, you do not have to delete the redirect to change its target. Type the name of the redirect (exactly) into the search box. Click the "Redirected from" line below the article title. On second thought: should we redirect to Dietitian instead? From what I understand, the title "nutritionist" is not necessarily as regulated as dietitian, and to be certified by the American College of Nutrition's Certification Board for Nutrition Specialists, an advanced (masters or doctorate) rather than a bachelor's degree is required. Help desk[edit]

Hi. Just a heads-up re the Help Desk — new helpers are always welcome, but if you're answering questions on policy you do need to be sure of your facts. Your answer in this section was wrong: it effectively directed another user to use sockpuppetry to evade a block for edit warring (a serious breach of the rules), and dismissed the appeal system out of hand, whereas it is the only correct way to challenge a block. The fact that the user was posting on the help desk at all should have been a clue that he was evading his block with a new account, and in fact that one has now been blocked for edit warring too. A suggestion that he create yet another account was not a very good idea: WP:CLEANSTART can work, but only where a user understands what the problem is and knows they cannot come back with more of the same behaviour, which this one clearly doesn't. Now that I think twice, it probably should be deleted or merged with the movie article — I had thought earlier that it was about the other squirrel (the one that is a main character) and I didn't know you previously declined it. It can also, (or only) be merged there. Thanks for the help at the Feedback forum. We are understaffed, and more help is quite welcome. I see you realize how to indent responses, but you may not be aware that you can do the same for bulleted lists. It is considered poor form to edit another person's comment on talk pages and discussion forums (with some rare exceptions), so I'm not making the change myself.

I'll illustrate with a recent example:

The article I posted was about the All Pro Dad organization, I gave a brief summary and history of the organization the followed with the 3 main things that they do to outrach to fathers, the daily email, the dad's breakfast and the all pro dad's day. I kept it brief and tried to cite the sources and websites that I used from All Pro Dad. It's pretty good (it has notability, and a good description), but it does have some problems.
There are three types of sections linking Wikipedia articles to other places:
  • References — To show that the subject is notable (important), and for more info, and some of where you got info.
  • Sources — Where you got your info, and for more info.
  • External Links — For more info.
Your should add references from other books\sites that are not related to the company to show that it is notable. I believe it is (per a google search), but please do add some independent examples to make it better — all current ones are on their sites. It's down to using the pipe character in your sig (|), the template uses tables and these interpret the pipe as an instruction to create another table cell. Pipes in a sig are a bad idea. Something like the middle dot might be a good separator (·). As an example I've fixed the layout for this user in question by replacing the pipes in this way. Why I moved the article[edit]

Apologies if I stepped on your toes, but I saw the request from Vhiruz to move a draft, and it hadn't happened, so I went ahead and did it.

Please note that new editors are usually unaware that a newly moved article won't show up in the index right away (which means it won't show up in a Google search until sometime after that.) After I move a draft, I send them a note, such as this : User_talk:Vhiruz#Move_request

If the article doesn't have categories, I remind them to add categories, but this one did.

Minor Edits[edit]

I noticed that all of the last 500 edits on your contribution list are marked as minor edits. This is probably because you have checked "Mark all edits minor by default" on the "Editing" tab of "My Preferences". Checking the minor edit box is supposed to signify that the only superficial changes were made to the page during the edit. Looking over your contributions, most of your edits should not be marked as a minor edit. It doesn't really bother me because I basically disregard the "m" and look at the edits anyway, but there are other editors who might have a problem with it. Just a quick note to let you know that I removed the speedy deletion template you placed on Lilly Truscott (Hannah Montana) because the article did not seem to meet the speedy deletion criterion A6. A6 is for articles that have been taken to WP:AFD and the consensus there was for deletion. Not only is there no AfD for this article, but it was tagged for this speedy deletion after only one minute. It is quite impossible for an article to go through the AfD process in this much time. So I'm pretty sure you didn't mean to apply this tag to this article!

Please be aware that is normally inappropriate re-add a speedy deletion template when another editor (other than the creator of the article) has removed it, because speedy deletion is only for uncontroversial deletions. If you believe the article still needs to be deleted, please consider WP:PROD or WP:AFD which can be used for deletions which are not covered by the speedy deletion criteria.

Minor Edits[edit]

I noticed that all of the last 500 edits on your contribution list are marked as minor edits. This is probably because you have checked "Mark all edits minor by default" on the "Editing" tab of "My Preferences". Checking the minor edit box is supposed to signify that the only superficial changes were made to the page during the edit. Looking over your contributions, most of your edits should not be marked as a minor edit. It doesn't really bother me because I basically disregard the "m" and look at the edits anyway, but there are other editors who might have a problem with it. Just a quick note to let you know that I removed the speedy deletion template you placed on Lilly Truscott (Hannah Montana) because the article did not seem to meet the speedy deletion criterion A6. A6 is for articles that have been taken to WP:AFD and the consensus there was for deletion. Not only is there no AfD for this article, but it was tagged for this speedy deletion after only one minute. It is quite impossible for an article to go through the AfD process in this much time. So I'm pretty sure you didn't mean to apply this tag to this article!

FEED / Talk[edit]

Actually, what I'm thinking about FEED is...

If we had a page for every week, and did some clever transclusion of the 'current week', and possibly a bot to note the 'oldest unanswered' too, at the top of the page...then, we wouldn't have to bother with archiving at all. I'm suggesting week based on the data on the talk page.

The great advantage here would be that users could check back on feedback forever, without looking for archives/links - the link to their feedback would be constant. Also, feedback requests unanswered would never vanish into the archive.

I'd really like to make a 'mock-up' of this proposal, as it is hard to explain in simple terms - ie I'd like to mock it up using data from the past month or two, and demonstrate how it looks.

I do not have very much knowledge about the advanced features, so my article is still very basic in its formatting. So, I was hoping to take you up on your offer for help in polishing the article!

(i) You mentioned that I may need to add reliable sources. I have a list of 10 sources/references, some of which are repeatedly cited 2-3 times in the article, resulting in a source list of 20 entries. However, all the 10 sources are reputable, reliable sources, including the authors bio on Columbia University Press and Harvard University websites. Did you mean that the sources should be even more reliable, or that I should not cite the same source repeatedly?

(ii) You also suggested adding pictures, but have to wait till I am 4 days old before I am an autoconfirmed user and qualified to upload any photos. When that happens, can I upload the copyrighted author/book photo if I ensure that I specify the name of the photographer under the photo? If not, can I upload the pictures if I get the author's permission?

(iii) Finally, you recommended adding an info box, which I think is a wonderful idea, but I was wondering whether you could show me how to insert one?

(i)I may have gotten it confused with another I was reviewing - the sources look okay.
(ii)Pictures have to be either copyright free, with the copyrighter's permission, or a bad quality pic of a logo. In most cases, with his written permission, you can upload that in a few days.

I am finally an autoconfirmed used and can therefore upload an author photo. I just wanted to check whether I can upload the author photo on the book jacket cover, which I notice is being used all over the net on various website where the author is giving talks or lectures, or on most sites where he has a bio? If so, what do I state or which tags do I use in the "summary" and which option do I select in the "licensing" menu when I am uploading the photo? Alternatively, I can get the authors permission, but do I still need it if the photo is so widely available?

Singature Disruption[edit]



I have removed a section from my talk page here per WP:Talk page guidelines.
"While the purpose of article talk pages is to discuss the content of articles, the purpose of user talk pages is to draw the attention or discuss the edits of a user. Wikipedia is not a social networking site, and all discussion should ultimately be directed solely toward the improvement of the site. Users may freely remove comments from their own talk pages..."


This has been done because I would prefer to forgive and forget another user's somewhat rude comments: (though they did have some valid concerns)
"I'll put it more strongly for you: if you don't change it back immediately - then I'm going to have to complain to the admins." Please note that it was not any of the users below though.

If you want to make it a little bit decorative, you can still do that, but within boundaries. For example, I recommend taking out the link to the Wiki Puzzle Piece Award; it takes up a lot of space and is generally irrelevant in your signature. In addition, your signature should always be on the same line as the comment. The signature should not go in the space below or anything out of place like that, such as you did here. Sometimes when you type the exact name of an article in the search box, it will just search and put "there is an article named... on wikipedia" at the top - that's just how it is I think. Maybe try typing the exact name then pressing "enter or return, not the button on the screen (they work differently). Also, you should type ~~~~ after your posts on talk pages, it's in the upper-left on most keyboards, or if you don't have the key, there's a button under the edit window. Thank you - I went back and added more Wiki links and also edited the Granite Wikipedia page to have "Cold Spring Granite" to the "See also" section, so that I could get another topic to link to it. I also added the "see also" list to the bottom of the Cold Spring Granite page to take people to similar topics. I also added some categories to the bottom, so that visitors can get an idea of similar topics to research. Does this solve the Orphan problem? If not, please let me know what else I can do to get the flag removed on my part.

The category prob is fixed, but still only the former draft and the requests for feedback page currently link to it. (those don't count). Somebody probably removed it as that is about granite itself, rather than suppliers. This is easy to fix though. Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Before Fire[edit]

Your review and decision to not accept the entry for the band Before Fire is respected. However, it would be appreciated if you reconsidered. Before Fire, although "unsigned," does more than a lot of signed musical acts. Before Fire tours, sells merchandise, records, has sponsorship and endorsements, and plays numerous shows a year with many in attendance.

Before Fire is considering label representation, but anyone in the music industry knows that is not usually in a band's best interest. Before Fire is in negotiations with certain record labels, but a band that does it themselves ("D.I.Y.") should be respected and revered and given the same opportunities for advancement and legitimacy in the music world.

A wikipedia entry is deserving. To deny them based on the fact they choose not to be represented by a label (that may very well be to their detriment) would seem unjust. Wikipedia is about free and public knowledge and that is all we intend to distribute. Please make an exception in this case because there are many others more than ourselves that are interested in this band, and Before Fire is certainly well deserving.

It could be a good article, it just needs some reliable sources (where you found the information), and references (from tv, newspapers, big websites, ect.) to prove it should be included, both at least close to the correct format, if you have to, I believe these can be in foreign languages. With these things, I can most likely accept it, and afterwards you may consider expanding it. I'll help with the formatting of the refs and sources. Classic book[edit]

Hello Qwerp, thanks for the feedback on Classic Book. I agree, a photo/pic/infobox would be nice, I had thought about some pictures to break up the text, but couldn't quite figure out what to put in...a picture of Twain? Wasn't sure that was appropriate?...

Another concern to me is the 'references' section. I know the section is a little messy-looking. Any recommendations on that area? Oh, and I couldn't quite figure out how to fix the "quotes" section at the end.

To clean up the refs, you can divide them into columns by making {{reflist}}{{reflist|2}}{{reflist|3}}, you can see what they produce below. Now that it think about it, an infobox, probably wouldn't be best, but you could put a picture of a classic book or a book that is a collection of classic books (there likely is already one of these images uploaded). As for the quotes, they should probably be above the refs\ext links - real ones are taken from wikiquotes - try uploading them there and they'll I'm sure you'll be able to find instructions on how to use them - there may already be ones appropriate for this. If not, you could just put them in a section I guess, maybe in a different font and floating.

Etymology[edit]

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, “Classic” means: “serving as a standard of excellence: of recognized value” and “historically memorable”.[1] The online version of the Random House dictionary states that the word “Classic” means: “of the first or highest quality”, “serving as a standard, a model” and “of enduring interest, quality or style”.[2]

Merriam-Webster has “book” as “a set of written, printed, or blank sheet bound together into a volume”, Random House defines the word as “a written or printed work of fiction or nonfiction, usually on sheets of paper fastened or bound together within covers.”[3][4]

Therefore, a ‘classic book’ could be said to be “a set of printed sheets bound together into a volume” that “serves as a standard” and is of “enduring interest, quality or style.” As a concept, though, “classic book”, is hard to quantify, it seems to change depending on the vantage and prejudices of the individual considering it. One reader’s personally-beloved classic can be the next one’s least-favorite.

Literature[edit]

Another source of contention is that the terms “classic book” and “Western Canon” are closely-related concepts that can confuse the student of literature but that are not necessarily each identical with the other. “Western canon” refers to a list of books considered to be “essential” and is presented in a variety of ways. It can be published as a collection, such as Penguin Classics, Oxford World's Classics, Modern Library, Everyman's Library, Great Books of the Western World or presented in a book as a list that has an academic’s imprimatur such as Harold Bloom[5] or a reading list presented by an institution of higher-learning, such as St. John’s College Academic Program “The Reading List”[6] or Rutgers University’s “Reading List: Senior Comprehensive Examination”[7] or Rutgers University’s “Reading List: Senior Comprehensive Examination”.[8]

Various academics and literary figures have considered the question of what constitutes a ‘classic book’. Charles Augustin Sainte-Beuve states his personal opinion in “What is a Classic?”[9]

“The idea of a classic implies something that has continuance and consistence, and which produces unity and tradition, fashions and transmits itself, and endures…. A true classic, as I should like to hear it defined, is an author who has enriched the human mind, increased its treasure, and caused it to advance a step; who has discovered some moral and not equivocal truth, or revealed some eternal passion in that heart where all seemed known and discovered; who has expressed his thought, observation, or invention, in no matter what form, only provided it be broad and great, refined and sensible, sane and beautiful in itself; who has spoken to all in his own peculiar style, a style which is found to be also that of the whole world, a style new without neologism, new and old, easily contemporary with all time.” In this same essay Sainte-Beuve quotes Goethe (referring to the classics concept as saying “Ancient works are classical not because they are old, but because they are powerful, fresh, and healthy.”[10]

Writers from other eras have also weighed-in on the matter. Alan Bennett, the modern English playwright and author, said that “Definition of a classic: a book everyone is assumed to have read and often thinks they have.”[11] Mark Van Doren, the Columbia University professor and poet, is quoted by Jim Trelease in a library-monograph, as saying that “A classic is any book that stays in print”.[12] And in his “Disappearance of Literature” speech given over a century ago in 1900, Mark Twain said, (referring to a learned academic’s lofty opinion of Milton’s “Paradise Lost”) that the work met the Professor’s definition of a classic as “something that everybody wants to have read and nobody wants to read”.[13][14]

Modern definitions[edit]

In the 1980s Italo Calvino said in his essay “Why Read the Classics?” that “A classic is a book that has never finished saying what it has to say” and comes to the crux of personal choice in this matter when he says (italics in the original translation): “Your classic author is the one you cannot feel indifferent to, who helps you define yourself in relation to him, even in dispute with him.”*

  • As a side-note, there are two different anthologies that ”Why Read the Classics?” is available in. The essay was first published in 1980/1982 in the Italian and in 1986 in the English translation as a chapter in Calvino’s anthology “The Uses of Literature”[15][16][17]

Consideration of what makes a literary work a classic is for Calvino ultimately a personal choice, and, constructing a universal definition of what constitutes a Classic Book seems to him to be an impossibility, since, as Calvino says “There is nothing for it but for all of us to invent our own ideal libraries of classics.”[18]

The conundrum of what actually makes a work of literature a ‘classic book’ is not just a consideration of extensively-published modern authors. In 1920, Fannie M. Clark, a teacher at the Rozelle School in East Cleveland, Ohio, pre-dates Calvino’s similar conclusions by 60 years when she also essayed the question of what makes a book a ‘classic’ in her article “Teaching Children to Choose” in The English Journal, Volume 9, No. 3, “The Official Organ of the National Council of Teachers of English” [19]

Over the course of her essay Clark considers the question of what makes a piece of literature a classic and why the idea of “the classics” is important to society as a whole. Clark says that “teachers of English have been so long trained in the ‘classics’ that these ‘classics’ have become to them very much like the Bible, for the safety of which the rise of modern science causes such unnecessary fears.”[20] She goes on to say that among the sources she consulted was a group of 8th-Graders when she asked them the question: “What do you understand by the classics in literature?” Two of the answers Clark received were “Classics are books your fathers give you and you keep them to give to your children” and “Classics are those great pieces of literature considered worthy to be studied in English classes of high school or college”. Calvino agrees with the Ohio educator when he states “Schools and universities ought to help us understand that no book that talks about a book says more than the book in question, but instead they do their level best to make us think the opposite.”

While blogging in 2009, Chris Cox agrees with Twain’s ‘classic’ sentiments of 1900 and Bennett’s witticism about classic books when he opined on the Guardian.Co “Books Blog” that there are actually two kinds of “classic novels”: The first are those we know we should have read, but probably have not. Etymology[edit]

According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, “Classic” means: “serving as a standard of excellence: of recognized value” and “historically memorable”.[1] The online version of the Random House dictionary states that the word “Classic” means: “of the first or highest quality”, “serving as a standard, a model” and “of enduring interest, quality or style”.[2]

Merriam-Webster has “book” as “a set of written, printed, or blank sheet bound together into a volume”, Random House defines the word as “a written or printed work of fiction or nonfiction, usually on sheets of paper fastened or bound together within covers.”[3][4]

Therefore, a ‘classic book’ could be said to be “a set of printed sheets bound together into a volume” that “serves as a standard” and is of “enduring interest, quality or style.” As a concept, though, “classic book”, is hard to quantify, it seems to change depending on the vantage and prejudices of the individual considering it. One reader’s personally-beloved classic can be the next one’s least-favorite.

Literature[edit]

Another source of contention is that the terms “classic book” and “Western Canon” are closely-related concepts that can confuse the student of literature but that are not necessarily each identical with the other. “Western canon” refers to a list of books considered to be “essential” and is presented in a variety of ways. It can be published as a collection, such as Penguin Classics, Oxford World's Classics, Modern Library, Everyman's Library, Great Books of the Western World or presented in a book as a list that has an academic’s imprimatur such as Harold Bloom[5] or a reading list presented by an institution of higher-learning, such as St. John’s College Academic Program “The Reading List”[6] or Rutgers University’s “Reading List: Senior Comprehensive Examination”[7] or Rutgers University’s “Reading List: Senior Comprehensive Examination”.[8]

Various academics and literary figures have considered the question of what constitutes a ‘classic book’. Charles Augustin Sainte-Beuve states his personal opinion in “What is a Classic?”[9]

“The idea of a classic implies something that has continuance and consistence, and which produces unity and tradition, fashions and transmits itself, and endures…. Alan Bennett, the modern English playwright and author, said that “Definition of a classic: a book everyone is assumed to have read and often thinks they have.”[11] Mark Van Doren, the Columbia University professor and poet, is quoted by Jim Trelease in a library-monograph, as saying that “A classic is any book that stays in print”.[12] And in his “Disappearance of Literature” speech given over a century ago in 1900, Mark Twain said, (referring to a learned academic’s lofty opinion of Milton’s “Paradise Lost”) that the work met the Professor’s definition of a classic as “something that everybody wants to have read and nobody wants to read”.[13][14]

In the 1980s Italo Calvino said in his essay “Why Read the Classics?” that “A classic is a book that has never finished saying what it has to say” and comes to the crux of personal choice in this matter when he says (italics in the original translation): “Your classic author is the one you cannot feel indifferent to, who helps you define yourself in relation to him, even in dispute with him.”*

Consideration of what makes a literary work a classic is for Calvino ultimately a personal choice, and, constructing a universal definition of what constitutes a Classic Book seems to him to be an impossibility, since, as Calvino says “There is nothing for it but for all of us to invent our own ideal libraries of classics.”[18]

Clark says that “teachers of English have been so long trained in the ‘classics’ that these ‘classics’ have become to them very much like the Bible, for the safety of which the rise of modern science causes such unnecessary fears.”[20] She goes on to say that among the sources she consulted was a group of 8th-Graders when she asked them the question: “What do you understand by the classics in literature?” Two of the answers Clark received were “Classics are books your fathers give you and you keep them to give to your children” and “Classics are those great pieces of literature considered worthy to be studied in English classes of high school or college”. Thanks for the reflist suggestions, but I'll admit it...I am not seeing how they differ in appearance, one from the other...clarification please?

I'll see if I can find an appropriate pic, but am actually a little leery of using a picture of a specific book, want to keep the article free of any bias toward any individual books. In one of the previous incarnations of this article, people apparently started putting in list after list of classic books and there was some controversy about books being left off, etc. Maybe I could find a generic pic of books on a library shelf or something similar.Shearonink (talk) 03:35, 14 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

They are in columns - three, two, and one (I admit that doesn't help too much, though it can make it look a little better), I don't think anyone would object to a picture of for example, a Mark Twain book - it is globally recognized as one and after all, it is only an example.
Hi! Just making this edit because I just reached 1,666 edits and the program crashed - it was kinda creepy!

I know what I can do...I'll get a photo of a classic book/bookcover, say "Tom Sawyer" or "Dune" or "Grapes of Wrath", and put a caption underneath it saying something like "example of a classic book".

Thank you for your suggestions & advice on the Request for Feedback page. I took another shot at the Josh Smith (musician) article. I've rewritten some of the sections to sound more matter-of-fact, I added a reference from a hard-copy magazine that unfortunately does not have their holiday issue online, and I removed some information that I can't verify other than from the musician's Twitter account.

It's definitely okay to work on whole articles - anyone can anytime. I'm glad you're going to try to fix it - generally, you would try to make it sound factual, avoiding overly positive or negative adjectives and both sides should be portrayed at the same time, rather than being like two separate reviews. While you and others have done a pretty good job on it, the top section presents incriminating and negative details only, while (no offense), yours emphasizes mostly good things. I think that if you can merge the two sections, it will be a more fair and balanced article. Yes, you're right - it should not be capitalized, that is called the move function and it is in the top bar or under an arrow as "move" or "move page", though it's really just renaming something. I'll do it for you this time, but for future reference, that's how you do it. You can also publish it to mainspace that way, removing all of the prefix in the name. you recently reviewd an article I wrote about a software called Ventuz. I hope you remember. First of all, thank you for your effort. I really appreciate you taking the time.

Unfortunately, you declined the article, stating that I didn't have enough reliable sources. But I have two magazine articles and one book among the references, which were not written by me or one of the Ventuz staff. My question is, why these are not reliable sources. Is it because they are not in English?

Feedback - please help me out[edit]

Re. WP:FEED

I think you've probably seen my comments on the talk page, about how we need to restructure the feedback system so that we have one page for each day, we transclude the most recent days on the main page, set up navigation, move the current requests across, add a box at the top showing the 'oldest outstanding requests', etc etc.

This really is desperately needed; the volume of requests now makes for a VERY long page, and archiving is not the best method at all; it can confuse new users, when their feedback 'disappears', etc. With a page-per-day, the links to their feedback would always remain - so we could alert them with a link on their talk page, and it won't matter if they check in 1 day, 1 week, 1 month or 1 year - their feedback will still be there.

I've had a 'demo' of it set up, and got a bit of help with the templates to auto-transclude the most recent days, etc - please look at User:Chzz/Wikipedia:Requests for feedback - please look also at a 'demo' day, User:Chzz/Wikipedia:Requests for feedback, and the nav page, User:Chzz/Wikipedia:Requests for feedback/navigation.

The demo isn't quite perfect, but to be honest, if we wait until it is, nothing will happen. We need to boldly implement it.

To do that, first of all, we need to clear things.

So, can you please help me by moving any and all feedback into the archive, and tell the users with a note, something like this one.

The move-over to the new method will be much easier if we clear things down.

I'm going to ask others for help, and try to get help with the transclusions stuff too.

Sorry this is a bit of a long message; I think it's important to sort this out, ASAP - and I need help with it.

I've made pages for all of June, with the header template. So we can 'populate' 'em now, I suppose. Yes, only the main page will need changing - plus the edit notice, and some other tweaks. If we copy stuff off the queue to the days, we need to beware of further edits to that page, giving feedback - but I guess when we switch to the transclusion system, we can just check in the history for any further edits, and copy them over. I think anything prior to June should go to the archive (old-stylee) and the user be informed, of course. And the rest, if we move 'em to the applicable day page (when they were submitted) then, the new system will start to take shape. - ie we'll only actually transclude the most recent days - so the page will be manageable. And we'll update that box to show the oldest outstanding.
Eventually, it'd be nice to have a bot do the last bit. But, one step at a time.

posted the following message on my talk page:

AWB makes a lot of routine, maintenance edits (like spell-checking and such), and is useful because it is semi-automated (quick). (what mono said and...) You have to request permission to use it, plus it's only for Windows (Darn!). Generally, if you have 500 mainspace edits, you'll be approved without much question, but under 500 is rarely approved. If you want to use it, you may want to wait a little before applying (you have 247 edits, of which 214 are mainspace). I am envisioning this as a program that lets you browse articles but also edit them without switching pages, is that essentially what it is? If so I will have to get editing so I can get to 500 soon! I would think so... I've never actually seen it because I have a mac, but since you like doing lots of grammatical and spelling fixes, that would be great for you to use. You could apply earlier, maybe at 350 or so - if they see that that is most of what you do, I think they'll probably let you use it anyway. If you didn't already know how, whenever you want, just click here and next to the pie graph, look for the number next to the red "article" space box. Hey QwerpQwertus! Thanks for your work at WP:SCV. :) I just want to remind you to take a look at the history of the articles you check. For example, you tagged ABW Group as a false positive. If you look at the history you'll see that the article contained copied content when it was created, but that it has been removed now. So in this case, instead of tagging it as a false positive at SCV you should just write that it has been cleaned. If you have any questions, feel free to ask at my talk page. Also, ABW Group contained copied content from a source that was not listed by CorenSearchBot. In addition to checking the source given by CSD, it's best to do a Google Search to make sure that the article doesn't copy content from any other sources. GOCE July 2010 backlog elimination drive chart

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive! We have now passed the halfway point, so here's an update.

Progress Report - Progress toward the targets has been good. 751 articles out of the approximately 1,600 we would like to get completed by the end of the month were done by July 15, so we will be very close to meeting the target for volume. However, we would like to clear all of the 2008 articles from the backlog, and there are still 892 left to do. Please consider choosing one of these older articles when looking for something to copy edit. If we focus our firepower we can completely wipe out 2008 from the queue.

Participation Report - 95 people signed up for the July drive. This is a great result compared to May, when we had 36. However, in May only one person that signed up didn't do any copy edits, and in July only 59 of the 95 have posted any copy edits on the big board.

The task may seem insurmountable but please remember that if all 95 participants copy edit just one article a day from now until the end of the month, we will eliminate 1,300 more articles from the backlog. So please consider participating at whatever level you can! All contributions are appreciated.

Thank you for all of the help so far. I have found a few more sources to try to make the [MSD Ignition] article more appropriate. In the second paragraph under History I added a book reference. The issue is that I don't know how to make the book go to my ref list instead of just inside the text.

I am hoping to continue learning about writing these things, so your input is especially appreciated! Any other suggestions you have for the page would of course be appreciated.

Looks much better, it's probably ready for mainspace - I can move it if you want, or you can (which WP:Move#How to move a page can help you with.
