@Anon126: Is this some sort of joke? I get a message from you advising me that an article I wrote has been flagged for deletion and within hours it has disappeared, even before I could see what you were complaining about. In my view that is a grave misuse of whatever power you seem to have acquired and adds to the list of reasons why I should sever my contact with the sitePlucas58 (talk) 18:50, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

Anyone has the ability to flag articles, but only trusted users known as administrators can delete them, after verifying that it meets the criteria. Clear copyright violations especially are deleted very quickly, because they are considered serious breaches of policy (mainly because they create a legal liability).

I'm sorry that you weren't given a chance to discuss this, but the legal ramifications dominate in this case. The administrator who deleted this page, CambridgeBayWeather can confirm that the page was copied almost entirely from the two sources I mention. You're absolutely right, of course. I'm sorry about that. It was caused, like all disasters, by a series of misunderstandings. The Somerhill article wasn't recognised by Grade I listed buildings in Kent, English Heritage (now Historic England) called it Somerhill, not Somerhill House, but listed the park under Somerhill House instead and the links in the wiki article regarding the grading don't work. Lastly, although as the article says, Somerhill is near Tonbridge, it is actually in Tunbridge Wells district.Plucas58 (talk) 12:00, 24 March 2015 (UTC)

George Kokines

Regarding your proposal to edit the George Kokines page, I think you have already changed it. I should have George Kokines listed for the Mr and Mrs Frank G. Logan Art Institute Prize ($500-$2000) awarded at the Chicago and Vicinity annual exhibition. I have copies of articles from the Chicago Tribune which describe the winning of the exhibition which included prize money as well as , the original booklet of the show, and the actual engraved medal. The Chicago Art Institute held both an International Exhibition and a Chicago and Vicinity Exhibition (restricted to local artists) every year. There were also various etchings and drawings exhibitions. The Logans supplied the cash for the prizes for all of them. • Hi- Your template is admirably definitive, which is certainly what's needed in such a tricky area. Countries, titles, courts and people seem to flit in and out of the historical record like shadows. So I will substitute your template for the current one. I would want to introduce into your template new wikilinks to specific Chief Justice articles like Chief Justice of Cyprus.

I feel I am running out of steam on this topic - although I might do the best I can with Grenada Justices before I move on (and maybe a few biographies). What is interesting is how difficult it is to draw up these lists of Attorneys General or Chief Justices- you'd imagine they were freely available. When I was making my original lists of the Fiji/Western Pacific CJ's (my original interest was sparked by Maxwell Anderson: it took me an unhurried month to piece together the semblance of a usable list), I wondered about the likelihood of anyone wanting to create a complete list of the (mostly) men who ran the British Empire (RIP), and my mind boggled. Nevertheless, it now seems slightly more likely: I find redlinks in templates more inviting than redlinks in the middle of articles. It would be a major (yet simultaneously trivial) undertaking to correlate the British Empire template with existing lists of Governors- & Attorneys- General, CJ's, Colonial Secretaries etc.; but I know very well that unless there is some relatively top-level agreement (however vague) of how these lists could be synchronised, the enterprise will certainly fall to pieces in a year or so, or less. I sense that the need for synchronisation should be emphasised (for future editors) in every template (like the Chief Justice) based on similar lines.

I think a starting point for the CJ template would be to link all entries for any entity in the template (random examples, Nigeria or Malaysia) to the most complete list of CJs available. This could be a current or former colony/entity/state.

As far as dates of individual entities (Trinidad and Tobago, Honduras) are concerned, I simply grabbed the template Template:British overseas territories and changed its name and title. Otherwise I have no opinion at the moment, but let's not blast away at minor inconsistencies before finding an over-arching sense of what can be achieved: namely, lists of Civil Servants and the judiciary of the entire British Empire (RIP). It's an incredibly wide-ranging subject, but relatively easily defined, since the records are all there on the interwebs, eg The India List. Is there an Africa List? I have created an Attorney General template as a mirror of your Chief Justice one and will try to round up as many Chief Justice and Attorney General lists as possible. Presumably a similar template could be done for Governors/Governor Generals too.

You mentioned Nigeria as an example. Ironically the Nigeria list of CJs only goes back to independence with no Colonial content. I will look at what can be done. The Gibraltar article had no list of past CJs at all but I fixed that. Hopefully we can get to a point where all the colonial administrators can be listed within an appropriate article and pointed at from the new templates.Plucas58 (talk) 10:34, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

I have now just about completed the lists of Chief Justices for every colonial outpost except the American colonies which I am about to look at. I guess I've included about 2 or 3 hundred names so far. Its about 90% complete so it will be interesting to see if anyone can come up with the missing names. I will also see if I can do some biographies of the leading characters for a change. I had to make quite a few improvements to existing ones along the way. In response to an email, I have had an offer from David Dixon saying that we may use every photo credited to him on the St Marks Site. I am trying to get my head round the OTRS system before doing an transfer of most of them to commons. I hope to put together template that can be used to include the main details. Great images and a great precedent.

We already have the commons:Textile mills in the Metropolitan Borough of Bolton category where we can place them, and we can create a new category commons:Photos by Mr. David Dixon to keep them all together.

When I set up the Commons categories there were several naming options. At the end of a weaving sheds life, they were weave just about anything to keep the looms working- it may have started doing calico, but the looms would also do polyester and other artificials- different parts of the shed would run different contracts- a bit like room and power mill must have been. So it had to be Textile mills in ... not Cotton mills in ..... It was fairly clear to me that a mill spun, and a shed wove but many firms ran combined mills, so we had to stick with mills to include both. Once we had done that for one town, consistency demanded it was the same elsewhwere. I did use something similar myself on the List of mills in Oldham page, where it generated a white box and did lead to the Historic England article OK. One person complained so I didn't pursue. I don't want to be accused of pushing the listed building theme. At least two listed buildings on the Historic England list have been demolished in Wigan recently so it may not mean as much as we like to think.

As far as a map showing the mills is concerned the

The history of the office is rather convoluted. The original officers were the representatives of the Lord Great Chamberlain in the Exchequer; one of these offices probably dated to the Conquest or before, while another appears somewhere in the 1100s. Both offices were serjeanties, associated with particular manors, and their holders are hence sometimes referred to as "Chamberlains in Fee". The junior chamberlaincy, associated with the manor of Highworth, was forfeited to the crown in 1290; the senior chamberlaincy, associated with the manor of Hanslope, was independently held until 1483, when it too merged with the crown on the accession of Richard III.

From a fairly early period, the chamberlains in fee (who nominally represented the LGC) were accustomed to appoint deputies to represent them in the Exchequer. There is at least one record, early in the reign of Edward I, of the appointment of *two* deputies, one for the Exchequer of Pleas and the other for the Exchequer of the Receipt (upper and lower Exchequer, respectively). As time went on, the business of these deputies seems to have become exclusively concentrated in the Receipt, and they become known as the Chamberlains of the Receipt. These are the office-holders listed on my page; the first column represents deputies appointed by the junior or Fitzgerald Chamberlains in Fee; the second column represents deputies of the senior (Mauduit, Beauchamp, or Warwick) Chamberlains in Fee, and by the Crown as these dignities devolved upon it.

I know how you feel-its happened to me a few times. My instinctive reaction is to say "Since when has being a dean not been notable? And where does that leave all the other similar articles on deans and archdeacons? Are they to be wiped out in a mass slaughter?" The truth is I have no solution to your problem but I will lend support when the process goes public. User:PBS, (an inveterate documentor of the Anglican church, has already given some help by upgrading the citations (of Usher Lee). WikiProject assessment tags for talk pages

Thank you for your recent articles, including XIII Army Corps (Wehrmacht), which I read with interest. When you create a new article, can you add the WikiProject assessment templates to the talk of that article? See the talk page of the article I mentioned for an example of what I mean. Usually it is very simple, you just add something like {{WikiProject Keyword}} to the article's talk, with keyword replaced by the associated WikiProject (ex. if it's a biography article, you would use WikiProject Biography; if it's a United States article, you would use WikiProject United States, and so on). You do not have to rate the article if you do not want to, others will do it eventually. Those templates are very useful, as they bring the articles to a WikiProject attention, and allow them to start tracking the articles through Wikipedia:Article alerts and other tools. For example, WikiProject Poland relies on such templates to generate listings such as Article Alerts, Popular Pages, Quality and Importance Matrix and the Cleanup Listing. Hey Plucas, I am just leaving this in regard to the articles you are creating under the auspices of WikiProject Military History, such as those relating to regiments of the British Army during the 18th century. When you add the {{WPMILHIST|no=yes}} tag, please also add the associated task forces that the article belongs to. It is a minor thing and doesn't take much time to add for external editors, but there is a significant backload that we are trying to crack down on, so adding those tags would certainly help in eliminating that. It is not that it is a lot of time for me and other organizational editors to change, but if you are making the article it just saves a couple of minutes for us to assess and tag articles that are a bit more unloved and have little to no active editing. You may already know this, considering the huge number of edits you have and contributions (something like 100x more than me :) ), but the associated task forces for such articles would be {{WPMILHIST|British=y|Revolutionary=y}} [Depending on the article, of course]. If you could also self-assess for these articles, considering none are near B status, that would also help with the many articles that have not yet been assessed. Cheers and thanks a bunch! Hi, I note that you you have edited the above due to it no longer being a listed building. I don't dispute the accuracy of this, but do you know have any online source for the decision? All I could find was that Historic Environment Scotland now have 'page not found' in the relevant place. A search of 'decisions' on their site found no results, annoyingly. I am a bit concerned by the change due to the imminent housebuilding work in the vicinity of the castle (see my previous edits and refs in the article). I would like to make the local community council aware of the change in case it is makes the building more vulnerable to development (I see it is still a Historic Monument). Since you are very knowledgeable in the field, and in the absence of any explanatory paperwork in the meantime, can you think of any common reason why this delisting could have taken place? • Hi. The most likely reason is that Historic Environment Scotland seem to have a program of removing duplicate designation i.e. either designating a site/building a listed building or a scheduled site, rather than both. I am no expert but scheduling the site seems to be the most powerful, in that it preserves the site for possible archeological investigation in the future. Listing a building only protects the building itself. To what extent they can prevent development nearby in either case I am not qualified to say.Plucas58 (talk) 15:37, 19 September 2017 (UTC)

I meant to thank you for your edits to this list. Good stuff. As you might have seen from the talk page, I was somewhat daunted at the amount of work that seemed necessary to update the list, so I'd very glad you did it, and very impressed that you found images for all of them! As I mentioned on the talk page, it is all of the "War Memorial Freestanding" entries on the Historic England list, now up to 134 following some recent upgrades. Two things:

1. If you check Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets → Display links to disambiguation pages in orange, then you will probably not get bothered by disambig bots again (unless you like it).

2. Many moons ago, I copied an existing template which is now (thanks to your perseverance) Template:Chief Justices of British overseas territories. I reckon there is only one red link remaining. I would be honoured if you were to pillage my rough notes, and create the relevant article, although there may have been a little hasty pasting: less is probably more, etc.

Are Archdeacons notable by office?

Hi, can I ask you to look at this Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Wandlyn SnelgroveBashereyre (talk) 13:29, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

Whilst I personally think the article should stay for completeness it has to be admitted that the articles on the last two Archdeacons of Fredericton are a bit sparse and you are obviously getting towards the bottom of the barrel. I would just let them be deleted and move on. You haven't lost much. The same happened to me on the Chief Constables of England. Some of the better known were accepted, the more obscure were deleted. You could also do the suggested list article for Archdeacons of Fredericton, even though its a repeat of your template. At least it would be somewhere to park the basic facts such as dates of office. Lastly I am not convinced that Archdeacons these days are notable by office.Plucas58 (talk) 14:54, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

Maybe so - as an English Boltonian I don't have strong views on the question. Technically the article name doesn't matter as long as there are appropriate redirects to get you there (which there are). Change the name by all means- unless you know a better way this will involve cutting and pasting the article page to the redirect page and converting the article page to a redirect. It's only a list because you made it a list! It wasn't a list before; it was a disambiguation page. Note that the redlinks on your list probably aren't notable and are formatted wrongly in any case. A contributor from Wales is methodically working through the British duchesses as part of a project to increase the profile of women on Wikipedia. The redlinks were a guide to outstanding personalities. But I have taken your point and redefined them as you suggest and removed the redlinks in case she also agrees they are not (yet) notable. However, if a list of duchesses is to be considered a disambiguation page, then shouldn't you also consider the hundreds of articles on Archbishop of X, High Sheriff of Y and Governor of Z as being disambiguation articles?Plucas58 (talk) 13:37, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

The point is that it wasn't previously a list of duchesses. It was merely a disambiguation page featuring those duchesses on whom we already had articles. Wives of peers are not inherently notable (spouses of notable people are never inherently notable in their own right). Bishops, etc, are. That's the difference. I do hope this editor is not assuming that all these people are notable just by dint of being married to someone who was notable? I'm going down in November with the plan of knocking off the remaining 30 - was 31 until your contribution - and it would be most helpful if there were just a few fewer left. Best I could do - but a more specific photo of Court Farmhouse wouldn't actually come amiss. At least you can park there I imagine (not like in Bolton). In my limited experience farmers (or more often their wives) love showing off their old farmhouses if you chat them up. Best of luck in the hunt. My experience too. In taking over 100 of the Grade II* photos, I'd only had one instance where the owner really wasn't happy. Other than that, people do tend to appreciate the interest, and I always offer to email them the link when I've done the article. I obviously don't know where you will go next but if listed Leicestershire churches are your thing then you must look at Grade I listed buildings in Leicestershire or Grade II* listed buildings in Leicestershire.
