This looks great, but mind that CC license: if it's not licensed to you, it has extra parameters it needs to say who the "by" is. I've fixed it, but you might want to look at what I did for other uploads. That's more attribution information than I'd normally include, but that's what they put on their website, so I just copy-pasted. - On a related subject, I don't think I ever really talked about my procedure for restorations, but I always like to start by dealing with the areas with the most damage, because once you go in for the detailed passes it can feel like you're making no progress if you haven't started by defining progress as "fix that crease" or "remove that writing". Which is a long way of saying that I've just finished the initial work and an about to upload the "first draft". Took... Maybe an hour and a half. Florence V. Lucas and Jamaica
Thanks for creating the article for Florence V. Lucas. She was head of the NAACP chapter in Jamaica, Queens, but the sources don't place here as living there. Her obituary in The New York Times places her in Rosedale, Queens. I changed the category in her article and will move her as a notable from the Jamaica article to the one for Rosedale. Did I miss something to connect her to Jamaica? Alansohn (talk) 14:09, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
- She was active in several Jamaica, Queens organizations, but lived in Rosedale, I guess. Sounds like you did the right thing, thanks. Penny Richards (talk) 15:18, 4 March 2022 (UTC)
DYK for Matilda Allison
On 8 March 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Matilda Allison, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Matilda Allison, blinded aged seven, "devoted her time instructing the blind" throughout America, thanks to a "wonderful education"? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Matilda Allison. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Matilda Allison), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Pearl Wanamaker article-- Great work!!
Just last week I identified Pearl Wanamaker as a prominent redlink in Washington State history, and today I was going to start a stub for her only to find that you have made a far better start than I would have. Great work! W.stanovsky (talk) 01:07, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks! Great minds think alike, right? I enjoyed learning about her. And please improve or add what you can, she seems like someone who had a very active life. Penny Richards (talk) 01:27, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
- She's definitely on my long-term list of articles to improve, but I'm not as active as you, I'm afraid. At the moment, I'm working instead on the new article I just stared on Belle Reeves, Washington's first female secretary of state and also a very interesting character. Question for you though: As far as I can tell, photos of lawmakers in the Washington state archives are often not clearly in the public domain. Any tips on how to be sure the rights are in order so I can get them uploaded to Wikimedia Commons and inserted into articles? Thanks! W.stanovsky (talk) 07:09, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
- Aha! Good question. Okay, three things:
- For some mid-20th century women in professions, you can find their college yearbook photo online. If the yearbook was published before 1927, the photos in it are free to use and can be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons.
- If a photo of the person landed in a federal publication, it might be free to use with the PD-USGov tag. And there were a lot of federal publications in the mid-20th century! For example, I've been working my way through School Life (a publication of the US Department of the Interior) recently. Not every photo in there counts, but many do.
- If a photo isn't free, it can't be uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, but you can sometimes still do a local upload as a fair-use image. It's tricky, but if you have a photo of a deceased person, and the file is under 100Kb, and you really can't find an earlier or free alternative, it may pass as fair-use. That's how I put the photo on Pearl Wanamaker's article. You can use the summary code from that picture as a template.
If I think of any other tips, I'll let you know. Good luck! Penny Richards (talk) 14:51, 19 March 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks! That's a huge help. W.stanovsky (talk) 16:59, 22 March 2022 (UTC)

Susie Forrest Swift
Hi Penny! I've been working on the biography of Susie Forrest Swift today. She was a Vassar grad, 1883. I've noticed on occasion that you include yearbook photos of Seven Sisters women in some of the articles you've created. Not sure what you are accessing, but if you have time and inclination to find such a photo of Susie Swift, I'd be most appreciative. No worries if you're busy with other things or if none is available as I did find a drawing of her in a 19th-c newspaper. Thanks! --Rosiestep (talk) 15:16, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
- Yes! But 1883 is a little early for yearbooks with photos. At VC Material on the Web, the Vassar yearbook (the Vassarion) only goes back to 1893. But she might turn up in some of Vassar's alumnae publications? Penny Richards (talk) 16:23, 16 June 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for looking. I found blurbs about her in 1910 and 1920 Vassar catalogs but no photos. That's okay. The newspaper drawing suffices. Thanks again. --Rosiestep (talk) 19:23, 16 June 2022 (UTC)

I ran across this woman quite by accident, while working on a bio of Elizabeth Wagner Reed, a geneticist and women's scholar. A quick search showed me that WP has a redlink on her here. There appear to be tons of sources on her [1], [2],[3]. Don't know if you are interested in working on her, but I know she fits into your interests and I am way too busy trying to finish Reed and Eunice Foote to work on her right now. - Sure, I'll give it a go. I find the QPQ reviewing difficult--but I'll nominate it and see what happens. Penny Richards (talk) 02:10, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
- I'm rubbish at QPQ too, I tend to find everything I look at is riddled with close paraphrasing. I suggested another possible hook at WiR, "... that Mary Ridge blew up the Liberator on her first encounter with Blake's 7, and killed off the crew on her last?", but on 2nd thoughts it might be deemed in universe? Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 02:18, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
- I used that hook in the nomination; but we can add some ALTs if you think they'll have a better chance. Penny Richards (talk) 02:24, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
- The one you suggested would work too, but for that it would be nice to have an article on "Terminal" as well as "Terminus". I could hack one up but it seems odd to start just "Terminal", when none of the other Blake's 7 episodes has an article. Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 02:27, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
- Well, now they're both there, we'll see how it shakes out. I'll get to the QPQ tomorrow. Penny Richards (talk) 02:32, 1 October 2022 (UTC)
- Espresso Addict: looks like we're good to go (with the B7 hook) if those citation-needed tags can be addressed. I can't attend to that today, looks like, but if you can, we just need to ping Lajmmoore when it's happened. Penny Richards (talk) 16:54, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
- I think the only solution with the citation needed bits is to remove them, sadly. They were added by an IP based on the fanblog bio, and are probably correct, but I have failed to source anything other than Ridge was friends with Nathan-Turner before working on DW. It's a shame, as the IP was probably the same as the one that correctly requested undeletion, but I poked around the blog and see no reason to consider it is reliable, and I don't know how to go about entering into a conversation with an IP-hopping anon editor. Will try to re-identify the source for the friendship and deal with the rest this evening. Possibly one could move them to the talk page in case the anon stops by subsequently and can provide sources. They're not a BLP problem as I think all the people involved are now deceased. Thanks for all your work on this! Espresso Addict (talk) 21:28, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
- Talk page solution seems like a good option. Thank you for all your work on this--I love a team effort! Penny Richards (talk) 23:42, 3 October 2022 (UTC)
- Me too -- all too rare, unfortunately. (Got to go offline now, and won't be around reliably till late tomorrow, so hopefully all is well with it.) Cheers, Espresso Addict (talk) 00:24, 4 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi can you, SusunW or Rosiestep find anything on this singer of the 40s. She sang with the Billy Butterfield orchestra for a bit in the 40s. Could enough be gleaned for a starter article? A recording of them here (she sings from 1:32) ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:57, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
- Dr. Blofeld Not much I can find. This is not a reliable source and gives dates but no places. Name is too common to differentiate without something else in newspaper searches. She married Melvin Walter Weschler. They divorced in 1951 and he married Patti Andrews, of the Andrews Sisters. That's about all I can find. Nothing about her career other than discog lists. SusunW (talk) 14:11, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for looking. I could only find some brief mentions. Sad as she was a good singer and somebody they ought to have written about! ♦ Dr. Blofeld 14:34, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
- SusunW found as much as I could. No luck in California Digital Newspaper Collection (thought I might get lucky there as Discogs calls her a "West Coast" singer). Penny Richards (talk) 15:36, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
- No luck through my Northeastern University resources. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:45, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks for looking. I wasn't sure if she was one in which it might be possible to scrape together a start class article. I wonder how many women there are in history who didn't get the coverage they deserved!♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:18, 7 October 2022 (UTC)

DYK for Mary Ridge
On 13 October 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Mary Ridge, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Mary Ridge blew up the Liberator on her first encounter with Blake's 7, and killed off the crew on her last? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Mary Ridge. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Mary Ridge), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

and @SusunW: and Rosiestep How about Anita Boyer, sang with Tommy Dorsey Orchestra for a while. Has a stub on Dutch wiki [4] I managed to start Anne Hartkamp the other day, but she's a BLP... ♦ Dr. Blofeld 09:04, 17 October 2022 (UTC)
- Dr. B: Here's Anita's biography at bandshirps.com and at alongthehall.com. Minimal biographical info at discogs. I added her familysearch.org and findagrave.com info into her Wikidata item. --Rosiestep (talk) 15:14, 17 October 2022 (UTC)

Started Anita Boyer and hubby Bobby Dukoff. Unbelievable that such people are still missing from here, particularly Dukoff, who operated a notable recording studio in Miami in later years and is a notable saxophone mouthpiece maker. Hello! Voting in the 2022 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 12 December 2022. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.
The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.
If you wish to participate in the 2022 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}}

Hello @Penny Richards:, could you please create an article for American actress Rita Flynn, who appeared in with James Cagney and Jean Harlow in The Public Enemy (1931)? 201.227.226.136 (talk) 16:20, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
- You have posted this request several times now, but without any explanation for why this needs to happen right now, or why I need to be the one who does it. Truth is, I'm busy with some other subjects at the moment. I can add her to my lists of possible subjects for future attention, or you can add her to the redlists at WP:Women in Red. If she's notable enough to have an article, I'm sure it will happen in time. Penny Richards (talk) 18:09, 29 November 2022 (UTC)
