Hello, Pcsihala.

I know it's been some time now since you entered content into Punjab Police College Sihala, but I'm afraid I have to tell you that that content has been removed. I want to explain why.

Wikipedia exists as an encyclopedia - our goal is to summarize what independent sources say about noteworthy subjects. It seems to me that this college is probably noteworthy, although others may disagree, so I think it's good for us to have an article about it, but we can't use language from the official site.

There are two reasons for this. First and most importantly, the official site is copyright reserved. That means it is illegal for Wikipedia to publish it unless we have a legal release from the official site. Even if you work for the college, we would need legal proof of that to accept the donation, and we would need you to verify that you are releasing it to be used and changed by others for any reasons, even commercially.

While you can read about how to donate content at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials, I wouldn't really recommend it. As I said above, Wikipedia is based mostly on independent sources, and content copied from official sources is usually regarded with a great deal of suspicion and doubt. In fact if you do work for the college, you are required to identify yourself as paid by the college in accordance with our conflict of interest guidelines and our Terms of Use. It is strongly recommended that you not edit an article for an organization that pays you but instead voice any thoughts you might have on the article talk page.

I do apologize for the complication, as I'm sure you were hoping only to make the article better. Articles that don't comply with our rules can wind up with all kinds of tags that look bad for the article subject, so I myself would think a short article is probably better than one that people mark as being "promotional."

If you have questions, I recommend the WP:Teahouse as a good place to ask them. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 17:40, 28 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
