Welcome

[edit]

Hello, Paypwip, and welcome to Wikiproject Greater Manchester! Thank you for your generous offer to help contribute. I'm sure your input will be much appreciated. I hope you enjoy contributing here and being a Greater Manchester Project Wikipedian!

As a project we aim to have all our articles comply with the various editing policies and guidelines. If you are contributing to an article, it is good practice to ensure that it's properly referenced with reliable sources, otherwise any contentious content may be removed by another editor. A good starting point for articles about settlements in Greater Manchester is the WP:UKCITIES guideline.

If you have any questions, feel free to discuss anything on the project talk page, or to leave a message on my own talk page. Please remember to sign all your comments, and be bold with your ideas. Again, welcome, and happy editing!

costs section

[edit]

Hi, regarding the recent edits to the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal costs table, I have a copy of the original document that is laid out as D. S. (in caps), and in the order I originally placed the numbers. The link is here, but just wondered why you swapped them around? Re: Look familiar?

[edit]

Oh my! Sorry, I completely missed your message left for me on the 19th August about Rainhill! I must have overlooked it. In short, yes, it's completely familliar, and totally expected. I've watchlisted that page and I'll keep my eye on the situation. Thanks for the nudge though! Sorry again, --Jza84 |  Talk  22:12, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Blackrod Image

[edit]

Hey! Thanks for the contact! Yep, geograph is a little dry for this patch, and Flickr is even worse. Do you know the town at all? Does it have a town hall or better landmark, if you do? I'm not sure where else we can get free-to-use images from. --Jza84 |  Talk  22:20, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Aggghh, right! I wondered how that article got so developed!... infact I remember us looking at (re)-drawing the Horwich CoAs (I must look into that!). It would be nice if we could get something from that corner of GM up to something like GA? --Jza84 |  Talk  22:26, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I suppose a town green would be ok, or perhaps the high street if it has one? My personal preference (being a hill dweller, is townscapes from elevated positions, but I don't really know the relief of that part of the world. There's usually always some kind of image that can be used... eventually! :S --Jza84 |  Talk  22:55, 4 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite

[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
