October 2018[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Because we have a policy against usernames which give the impression that the account represents a group, organization or website, I have blocked this account; please take a moment to create a new account with a username that represents only yourself as an individual and which complies with our username policy or request a change of username.

You should also read our conflict of interest guideline and be aware that promotional editing is not acceptable regardless of the username you choose.

If your username does not represent a group, organization or website, you may appeal this username block by adding the text {{unblock|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}} at the bottom of your talk page.

You may simply create a new account, but you may prefer to change your username to one that complies with our username policy, so that your past contributions are associated with your new username. If you would prefer to change your username, you may appeal this username block by adding the text

{{unblock-un|new username|reason=Your reason here ~~~~}}

at the bottom of your talk page. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names.

 Thank you. ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:19, 19 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without a good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

Requested username:

Request reason:

I am a public affairs specialist for the Oregon Department of Veterans' Affairs. I created this account to be able to edit factual inaccuracies on the Wikipedia stub for our agency. Our online public-facing accounts often use the screenname "oregondva" (for example, our official agency Twitter: https://twitter.com/OregonDVA) and yet when I registered a Wikipedia account using this screenname, it was blocked for vandalism. Please help me understand why this occurred and if I need to select an alternate username for our agency. Oregondva (talk) 21:14, 19 October 2018 (UTC)

Decline reason:

"new username" is unfortunately already taken. Please understand as well that Wikipedia does not allow Role Accounts (You can read more about this at WP:ROLE). Your account is a personal one, for you - and you only. I would also recommend reading up on our policies on Conflicts of interest, as well as paid editing - which can be found at WP:COI, and WP:PAID. SQLQuery me! 02:11, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please accept my apologies; I misread the names that you added with your edit here to Oregon Department of Veterans' Affairs, and from the names I thought that I read properly, they would have been added only by users who were engaging in disruption. This is why I mentioned vandalism in your block notice above. Reviewing the edit you made clearly shows that your edit was not vandalism, but an edit made in good faith. I've converted your block to a username violation soft block and have updated the block notice above. Again, I apologize for the confusion on my end; that was my fault and I hope you understand. Thanks :-) ~Oshwah~(talk) (contribs) 21:23, 19 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

unblock discussion[edit]

Looks like Oshwah has modified your block. This is good. Please reread your block notice and follow the instructions. You must choose a username that represents you as an individual. Not your organization. Please read WP:orgname. As you are editing on behalf of the organization and about the organization, you should probably read and heed WP:COI and WP:PAID. You should also be aware that this encyclopedia has little interest in what the subjects of articles have to say about themselves. For the most part, it is better for the representatives of a subject to suggest edits rather than attempting to edit directly. Generally speaking, all content must be cited from reliable sources that are unconnected with the subject and have a reputation for fact checking. Please select a new user name and modify your unblock request accordingly. Thanks, -- Dlohcierekim (talk) 21:48, 19 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
