{{helpme}} Currently we are attempting to build the largest Christian music database. We do not want to violate wikipedias rules and are not trying to solicit or advertise, we just want to offer another resource. How can sites such as last.fm and pure volume tag themselves onto external links while still being in code?

I think I know what you are saying, you use [http://www.whateversitehere.com] to provide an external link. astatine-210 discovered elementswhat am I? 22:31, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hi One_21_Music, thanks for contributing. There are several issues here. First, it's not appropriate to use external links in Wiki articles to drive traffic to a website, that's spamming and is discouraged. Second, if employees or agents of websites like last.fm add those sites to articles for promotional purposes, that would be conflict of interest and would be removed by other editors. Third, adding links to the same website across multiple articles will usually draw attention since it's a common tool of spammers, see item #5 here. You might consider contributing the relevant content to the articles, and citing your source as a reference. Best regards, Chuckiesdad/Talk/Contribs 00:11, 17 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
