August 2010[edit]

Hello, you appear to be adding text directly copied from IMDB (here) to the Omar Epps article. Assuming they didn't lift it from an older version of WP in the first place then I believe this would be a copyright violation if we left your edit in place. If there is some content that you believe should be in the article (or conversely should not be in the article) then we can do that. If you're unsure about how to make those changes you can bring it up on the article's talk page here. Thanks. SQGibbon (talk) 01:27, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop copying and pasting text directly from IMDB to Wikipedia. It is a copyright violation. If there are some changes that need to be made please discuss them at the talk page (linked above). Thanks. SQGibbon (talk) 00:11, 25 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop copying and pasting text directly from IMDB to Wikipedia, it is a copyright violation. If this continues you will get blocked. If you think you are somehow justified in doing this then please provide that evidence on the talk page. Even if this were the case your edit would still be reverted because you're eliminating the biographical information and duplicating the career information that's already in the article. I am not copying texts directly from imdb, I am Mr. Epps' publicist & I'm only trying to use his actual biography that we use in the business. People who look him up on wiki should see the factual material relating to Mr. Epps' history, not an opinionated inaccurate version of his biography. I'm not trying to violate any wiki policies as I respect wiki but my client should be properly represented on wiki as well. Mr. Epps is not only an actor but he's a writer, producer & musician as well. And his biography speaks for itself. I think the career part of his page could be written better but it'll suffice for now. Like I said, I'm only trying to have my client represented on wiki in the most up to date & factual manor. Feel free to let me know how to go about this in the best way... Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by User:Oepps (talkcontribs) 2010-08-28t20:48:59z

For the last time, stop copy-pasting copyrighted material into the article. Next time you'll be blocked. Favonian (talk) 20:52, 28 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Mischaracterizing sources.[edit]

Regarding [1]: you can't change referenced text to include information not in the source. The New York Times reference[2] states "Singer, Actor, Songwriter, Record producer". When you change the text to "actor, writer, songwriter and producer" but keep the reference there, it's like you're misquoting someone. If you want to add "writer", you'll need to cite a verifiable, reliable, published, 3rd party source. Changing "record producer" to "producer" will also need a cited source, especially since the assumption will then be film/tv producer. The IMDb mention[3] is not good enough yet because that film is still listed as being in post-production, so it's not produced yet.

Remember that "The threshold for inclusion in Wikipedia is verifiability, not truth" - wp:v.

If you think "singer" and "record producer" is given undue weight by being in the 1st sentence, then removal would be okay if you explain it in the "Edit summary". -- Jeandré, 2010-09-01t12:38z
