Welcome!

Hello, OSUsetdesign, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for helping us build a great free encyclopedia. We have five basic principles, but other than that, we advise that you be bold and edit. If you ever have any questions or need help, feel free to leave a message at the help desk, and other Wikipedia editors will be happy to assist you.

Thanks again and congratulations on becoming a Wikipedian!

P.S. New discussion threads for you will appear at the bottom of this page.

Hello OSUsetdesign,

It seems to me that an article you worked on, Heidi Ettinger, may be copied from http://heidiettinger.com/about/. It's entirely possible that I made a mistake, but I wanted to let you know because Wikipedia is strict about copying from other sites.

It's important that you edit the article and rewrite it in your own words, unless you're absolutely certain nothing in it is copied. If you're not sure how to fix the problem or have any questions, there are people at the help desk who are happy to assist you.

Thank you for helping build a free encyclopedia! MadmanBot (talk) 17:38, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Heidi Ettinger requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article or image appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website or image but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. - MrX 17:56, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright[edit]

"the page is cited to the original content written by Heidi Ettinger herself on her own website" - no, it was virtually a copy and paste of it. Text or images that are published are copyright. Wikipedia can only accept text or images that are in the public domain (usually because of their age), or which are written here and not copied from somewhere, or which are licensed under CC-BY-SA and the GFDL. Wikipedia itself is licensed under these for free reuse by anyone anywhere (including commercial use), so anything not free to use under these is not allowed. (Brief quotations and 'fair use' images are allowed, but the images should be replaced as soon as possible with truly free ones.) In addition to this, articles must be referenced with reliable independent sources, and someone's own site can't show notability for them as it is not independent (and in many cases rather less than reliable too...). If you want to try again under a new username, please create the new version (complete rewrite - better than getting the text licensed) in your user space. Just type in User:newname/DRAFT (changing 'newname', of course), and get it started. Then ask for advice. I recommend User:Tokyogirl79 and User:MelanieN as being very good at sorting these things out and digging up references. I am blocking this account purely because the name appears to represent an organisation, and this is not allowed under WP:USERNAME. Accounts are for one individual, not for groups. This is a soft block, so you can either start a new account with a name that doesn't represent the organisation (and preferably doesn't contain OSU or 'set design') or you can change this one at WP:CHU (scrolling down to 'Simple'). Easiest to start anew. Good luck. Any questions can be posted here before you make your mind up. I'll be watching here for a fer days. Peridon (talk) 18:56, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

January 2013[edit]

This account has been blocked indefinitely from editing Wikipedia because your username, OSUsetdesign, does not meet our username policy.

Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below).

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account

You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:

  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} on your user talk page. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you feel that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. Peridon (talk) 19:00, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I made a right pig's ear of setting this block. Go for the new account and lose the mess I made on this one... Peridon (talk) 19:03, 24 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
