Admin Coaching[edit]

The reason why I asked User:Jj137 to coach me was because I know him/her very well and I trust him/her. I really don't know you much yet. But I would kindly take your offer. Please take a look at this page. Thanks!--RyRy5 Got something to say? 01:57, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I think I know someone that I trust more. Not that I don't trust you, I just know the other admin better. I will see if I would still want you to be my coach. But you can just be an unofficial coach for now. Is that Ok with you?--RyRy5 Got something to say? 02:25, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for your reviewing the above article. I feel, that the issues you raised have been addressed. Can you please have a look at the talk page there and tell what you think. If you have the time, please do take it to criticize stuff more concretely if this is possible (e.g. the redundancy statement). I may renominate the article, if you do not object. I was a bit surprised that you closed the GA review immediately after your assessment (which includes, as you write, only points suggested by a automated process and hence do not always cover the actual state of the article). Thanks again, Jakob.scholbach (talk) 16:57, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, it's me again. I have now addressed the issues you raised (including footnotes and redundancy) and hope you consider them solved. I also worked a bit on the global shape, hopefully an improvement as well. Do I have to renominate the article for GA? Or do you just have another look? Merci again for your review. Jakob.scholbach (talk) 19:34, 14 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Look, I voted for delete, but what on earth are you doing closing an open AFD discussion after 24 hours and deleting the article? AFD discussions run for five days for very good reasons. As an admin, you should be cognizant of the deletion policy - clearly you are not. And don't give me WP:SNOW - the discussion wasn't obvious or unanimous. Nor quote WP:BLP at me, as the article contained no BLP violations. By short circuiting the deletion policy, you think you may be simply speeding things up, but any complaint to DRV will see the article restored post-haste because you closed the discussion way too early. Please stick to the five day rule in future. Neıl 17:11, 8 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I gave you the link - Wikipedia:Deletion_policy#Deletion_discussion - "The discussion lasts at least five days". It's also mentioned in Wikipedia:Guide_to_deletion#Overview ("a period usually no less than five days") and Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion (second sentence). Neıl 11:48, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:2006itest.jpg}[edit]

Thank you for uploading Image:2006itest.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check:

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's escription page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. Orphaned non-free media (Image:Mathlinks logo.gif)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Mathlinks logo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:40, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Emile Lemoine[edit]

Hi. Checking one of your references (Number 12: Chidume, Charles E. (2001). "Equilibrium Points For a System Involving M-Accretive Operators". Proceedings of the Edinburgh Mathematical Society 44 (1). Cambridge: Cambridge University Press.) I cannot find any reference to Emile Lemoine, symmedians or triangle geometry. Could you please explicitly quote the article (that I have in front of my eyes)? Thanks. Randomblue (talk) 20:32, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

So you're telling me you cited a reference without actually reading it? For what other references have you done this? Talking about this specific one, I have access to all the articles from the web, but all the articles seem to be very technical. Please select a few from http://journals.cambridge.org/action/displayIssue?jid=PEM&volumeId=44&issueId=01 and I'll check them out (I've checked the first two). Randomblue (talk) 22:52, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also, why is the Francœur prize a "Notable award"? Randomblue (talk) 22:59, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, then please remove the reference. Talking about references, I have access to most databases since I'm a student at Cambridge University (if you need an article I"ll be happy to help you out). As for the Francoeur prize, when I google search it ""Francœur prize"" I get less than a hundred results... I'll check the Bulletin of the AMS tomorrow. However, I still feel that "notable" is POV, maybe remove that as well.

" Bulletins of the AMS; i.e. volume 5 number 8, volume 13, number 6" what articles specifically? Randomblue (talk) 23:36, 10 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

From what database did you find "Lemoine, Émile. La géométrographie ou l'art des constructions géométriques. (1903), Scientia, Paris (in French)"? Or did you even get it from a database? Cheers. Randomblue (talk) 00:05, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lemoine[edit]

Hi nousernameleft,

I'm searching through my university library and they don't seem to have "Sur la mesure de la simplicité dans les constructions géométriques (1888)". However, they have "Sur la mesure de la simplicité dans les tracés géométriques (1889)". From what source did you compile the list of notable works? Also, Lemoine seems to have done quite a bit of work on probability as papers such as "Sur une question de probabilité (1884)", "Quelques questions de probabilités résolues géométriquement" and "Questions de probabilités et valeurs relatives des pièces du jeu des échecs" seem to suggest. The article makes no reference of this whatsoever. Finally, where can I find the paper where Lemoine postulated his conjecture concerning primes ("Goldbach, Lemoine, and a Know/Don't Know Problem" (September 1984). Mathematics Magazine 48: 195–203. Mathematical Association of America.)? Did you get it off the internet or a library? Thanks. Randomblue (talk) 15:10, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Remainder(Usernames) = 0.

I wanted to personally thank you for taking part in the project-wide discussions regarding my candidacy for bureaucratship. After bureaucratic discussion, the bureaucrats decided that there was sufficient significant and varied opposition to my candidacy, and thus no consensus to promote. Although personally disappointed, I both understand and respect their decision, especially in light of historical conservatism the project has had when selecting its bureaucrats. If you have any further suggestions or comments as to how you think I could help the project, please let me know. Once again, thank you for your support, and I hope that if I do decide to run again in the future, I still will not have gotten any worse :) -- Avi (talk) 17:22, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for your participation in my recent request for adminship. I am impressed by the amount of thought that goes into people's contribution to the RfA process, and humbled that so many have chosen to trust me with this new responsibility. I step into this new role cautiously, but will do my very best to live up to your kind words and expectations, and to further the project of the encyclopedia. Again, thank you. --jbmurray (talkcontribs) 05:50, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Lemoine[edit]

Thanks for the effort in addressing my comments. Sorry about the fact tags, I though you'd handle the problem faster. There are still issues:

  • "create a standard and methodological system" methodological yes, but why standard? This seems to be OR.
  • "in his description" what are you referring to exactly (I mean, in the sentence)?
    • In his description of the system I mean. I could remove the phrase to make it less opaquely. Nousernamesleftcopper, not wood 01:54, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • "[his] abstract relation of equations to tetrahedrons and triangles" Isn't the relation of an equation to the object it is referring to always abstract?
  • "During this period, he published an article in the local journal" Why is the journal a "local journal"? This seems to be OR.
    • That was a mistake on my part, sorry. It mentioned a city in the same sentence - "It was while yet a boy in his teens at La Fleche, that, in 1858, he published a short note in the Nouvellee Annales de Mathematiques" - and I misread. Nousernamesleftcopper, not wood 01:54, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Lemoine was a founding member of the Association Française pour l'Avancement des Sciences" could you give the specific page for this fact?
  • "such as the Société Mathématique de France, the Journal de Physique, and the Société de Physique, all in 1871" Ok for the société but what about Journal de physique and société de physique? Could you give page references (for the precice date)?

There may be more to come. Randomblue (talk) 19:55, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

    • For both of the last two, page 30 of the Smith ref #1. I may be misinterpreting the sentences, but it seems to imply that it all happened in 1871. Nousernamesleftcopper, not wood 01:54, 21 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thought I'd drop by and ask for you to look over Gilberto Gil (which just failed its recent FAC) for MOS problems or other issues, as I saw you at WP:FAT and have also seen your great FAC comments. --Kakofonous (talk) 00:35, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Admin Coaching[edit]

Hi,

Im highly interested in admin coaching, as i would like to become an admin in the near future and also to learn about an admins roles, dutys and ethics. Following instuctions on the coaching page it was suggested that I contact an admin who hasnt got any coachees instead of waiting for things to be done for me. I was wondering if you had the time to admin coach me, I look foward to your reply, Cheers Prom3th3an (talk) 08:39, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the review! I've tried too remove all the 'also' and 'some' terms throughout, cut down on the caption wordiness by a phrase or two, and added the 'but'. About the plot citations, I only added them to the places I thought might be more contentious plot points- some fans list "the Art", for example, as "the Art of Writing" and tried to change it earlier; also, there's some contention about whether he truly left the player with no way off the Age. Normally, I don't put citations in the plot at all, I just thought it would be better to do so in certain areas. Once again, thanks for your comments. --Der Wohltemperierte Fuchs (talk) 16:46, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The FA-Team[edit]

Hi. There has been some discussion of how to improve the FA-Team's functioning. It's be grand if you could comment on the new suggested structure, and perhaps also look at our current proposals. Thanks. --jbmurray (talkcontribs) 18:38, 30 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
