Punjab[edit]

I do not care about Szchaider's assumption he owns the WP Pakistan template. I will simply use WP Punjab on all Pakistan-related articles which are also Punjab-related. I will not omit Pakistan from WP Punjab as Pakistani Punjab is as important historically as Indian Punjab and also the fact that we have a Pakistani user in our list of participants. Nobleeagle [TALK] [C] 04:57, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Szchaider and his friends have a feeling that WikiProject tags indicate ownership, I don't think he likes to idea of a WikiProject Punjab created by Indians indicating ownership over Pakistan-related articles. Which is why he responded to Anupam's request that he join the project by telling me that he cares first about Pakistan and only after that does he bother about Punjab. Also, in relation to the pre tags. It's a bit of unfair one-sidedness. They were added because Pakistani users found the Indian flag insulting to them (I can't imagine why). But pre-1947 Pakistan-related articles happily bear the Pakistani flag. Nobleeagle [TALK] [C] 05:08, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK, the saga between me and Szchaider was a misunderstanding. I don't have time to put lengthy comments now, I probably will comment later about the pre= thing. Nobleeagle [TALK] [C] 07:08, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Stubs II[edit]

Hi again - you wrote: The template India-geo-stub has the following wording: This Indian location article is a stub Since India has state-specific stubs that handle locations, keeping this for that purpose seems to be redundant. Going through the article that use this stub, it returns articles on rivers, and a couple of hills. Hence the wording :"This Indian location..." seems inappropriate for hills and rivers et all. That's why I seek to change it to "This article on the geography of India is a stub..." There are far too many geographic features in India without an appropriately worded stub message. As for location based stubs, this should handle geographic areas such as Duars, Terrai, Saurashtra, Bodoland and would be a stub handled by Wikipedia:WikiProject Regions of India.

Most country-geo-stub do use the "geographical article" wording (e.g., {{Australia-geo-stub}}), so I don't see any problem there. Several countries have been completely divided into subregions like India has, and the main country-geo-stub in those cases is used for only those geographical features and locations which cover several states, such as the Dooars and Terrai articles. Saurashtra would get a Gujarat-geo-stub, though, since it is entirely within Gujarat. Similarly, Bodoland is entirely within Assam, so would get Assam-geo-stub. Again, Australia is a good comparison - The Eucla Basin is a very large region (1 million square kms), but is only in two states, so it gets SouthAustralia-geo-stub and WesternAustralia-geo-stub. The only articles which get the full Australia-geo-stub are those for areas covering several states, such as New Holland (Australia), and the tiny number which fall outside the jurisdiction of the states. A India-region-stub isn't necesary, just as an Australia-region-stub isn't necessary, and would be contrary to the normal way of splitting geo-stubs. Grutness...wha? 09:43, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: FAC copy editor[edit]

Hi Nichalp,

I thought about it and I'm willing to give it a shot. I'll do it tentatively for a month first and see how I like it.

In your first post, you had mentioned "brilliant prose." Were you referring to the Wikipedia:Featured_article_criteria, or did you mean something else?

Will you also let me know when the next FAC is ready for copy editing? Fowler&fowler«Talk» 21:50, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Red rain in Kerala[edit]

Hi, is there any chance then you could give a quick review of Red rain in Kerala and give your opinions on what should be done to it to get it to featured status? I'm fairly sure theres not a lot to do, maybe a few more references and add a section at the end on official finings of the cause. It would be much appreciated! I'm not sure why you resized the article's main image. Is there some Wikipedia style issue I'm unaware of? I've never seen an article with a main image that small. I could be wrong, but it does seem a bit odd. Serendipodous 19:06, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Nichalp. Wish you a very happy holi too! I am feeling so guilty for having abandoned SITE. I am hoping to start work on it again. Usurpations[edit]

Er, does this really matter? It's all there in the log, in case the usurped user ever turns up to reclaim his old username; but in any case this is exceedingly improbable. Before this process was created, I granted dozens of usurpation requests immediately, without any sort of notification or waiting period, when the target username had no log entries and no edits; problems never arose. I find the current system a good measure too complicated. I can't really think of a reason why "Usurped XYZ" would be preferable to "Username (renamed)", which is the template I used, though I left it as "Usurped" once by mistake. — Dan | talk 17:19, 3 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vanished user as sysop[edit]

This is why I resigned (password suicide). Wikipedia.org seems to care more about low quality quantity than high-quality. Adam runs around bullying his opinions (not backed up by any research, or none that he is able to cite) down NPOV articles backed up by RS such as the Creation-evolution controversy. India Demographic[edit]

Because of India's rich diversity, no one image can represent all of India's one billion people. That is why I propose selecting a new demographics image every three months. This would allow for a regional balance and would show India as a whole. Many people have agreed that this is the only way to represent India's rich and varied diversity. Since you have voted for a change in the demographics section, I wanted to update you on this proposal. I would love to hear your comments on talk:India. Thanks so much. Have a great day!

Hello Nicholas. Ageo020 has added a pic from flickr of Harbhajan to the article. If I understand correctly, the picture is tagged as "all rights reserved" so it isn't cc-sa eligible is it? In any case, since I believe you are a commons admin and understand these image rights properly, could you make an inquiry to see if the the photographer would allow us to use his pictures on Wikipedia. If so, I think there are a few articles like Irfan Pathan which could use a pic for an FA polish, and perhaps some other articles like Shanthakumaran Sreesanth might be FA-able in time, or maybe Yuvraj Singh and Munaf Patel and such. Harbhajan is also in FAC now. Thanks, Blnguyen (bananabucket) 23:11, 5 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Shahbag[edit]

Will you you take a look at the article Shahbag? Ragib thinks it may deserve a FA drive. So, where do we begin? Aditya Kabir 16:59, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. But, I think the second largest book market, the largest flower market, and an ancient maga-market for bedding accessories fit the description of the neighborhood very well, especially since the area is predominantly intellectual and academic in nature, and is one very old neighborhood of Dhaka too, including many idiosyncrasies of an old neighborhood intact. What do I do now. The positional data is all wrong, I am trying get through to a reliable data. Unfortunately the police are not being very helpful. Give me a weeks time to get all the figures right. There are a large amount of socks voting Dravidian Warrior (talk · contribs), Tamilguy07 (talk · contribs), Jhynnyrj (talk · contribs), 129.219.218.3 (talk · contribs) etc. look like blatant socks and/or SPA accounts. PErhaps that area needs a block. If they are Wiki raja then it will be even funnier. These new Tamil SPA trolls are quirky, one accused me of being a "hater of Hindus" another a "hater of tamils" and another a "Racist" (when it is because of racism my family left that state). Since your family left the state of Tamil Nadu, then why can't you leave these Tamil issues alone? I am not here to accuse you of anything, but to tell you the truth personal issues, and family related matters should not be used on Wikipedia for spiteful reasons to effect the content of any given material. If you are upset with the state of Tamil Nadu, then take it up with the state of Tamil Nadu, don't take it out on us. That is very unprofessional, unacademic, and uncouth. You can get mad and even report me all you want. In reality, you will have to eventually learn to deal with these real life issues, instead of using us as a punching bag.
