Crest Academies &c.

[edit]

Hello and welcome! Just so you know, copying the contents of Crest Girls Academy to a new article, and putting the old one up for deletion, you can just request the article be moved to the new name. Copy-pasting into a new article eliminates the article's history of edits, which is required to be maintained as part of the license it is published under. Edit Talk:Crest Girls' Academy and bring up the fact that its name has changed, and various people can opine on the best approach, such as a rename/move, redirect, etc. But the way you're doing it now is really not the best way. Your contributed article, The Crest Academies

[edit]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, The Crest Academies. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Crest Girls' Academy. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Crest Girls' Academy – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. CrowTalk 19:53, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hello again, this was just the automatic message. As above, the best thing is to start a discussion on the Talk page I linked, and just rename (move) the existing article. The old names will then link to the main new article. CrowTalk 19:57, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

hi, i put in a request to delete the crest girls academy page as the school no longer exists as it merged with crest boys and the sixth form and is now the cres academies. the information on the cres girls page was information intended for the crest academies.

  • Yes, but the problem is, you can't just copy/paste from the old article to a new one, and then delete the old one. That erases all of the editing history, which we have to keep for licensing reasons. It is much better, and easier, to just have the Girl's page renamed, since as you say, its content is now all about the Academy. CrowTalk 19:59, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Quite right. that'd be the best action. Sorry for causing a bit of a mess! I couldn't see how to change the name of a page. I assume then that the new The Crest Acadmies page will be deleted and The Crest Girls Academy page will be renamed? Thanks for your help.

  • That's the plan! I even went and started the discussion HERE. Feel free to comment. If no objections are raised in a few days, and I don't see why there would be, then we can have it moved. CrowTalk 20:04, 7 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
