License tagging for Image:Mirador200109.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Mirador200109.jpg. Wikipedia gets hundreds of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

Can you replace that image with a higher resolution version with more detail in the shadows? If you email me the original [[1]] I would be happy to adjust it myself. Thanks. Christian Campbell 09:04, 27 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 00:06, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Please make sure to read the Tutorial, especially the section about links (Wikipedia:Tutorial (Wikipedia links)), as I noticed in an article you created, Jean Rigaud that wou were using HTML style hyperlinks. Equendil 14:41, 1 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image copyright problem with Image:Dark Angel Series DVD Packages.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Dark Angel Series DVD Packages.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me, or ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 21:22, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding this image, just taking a photograph of some art does not transfer copyright to you. The original painter still holds the copyright. Now, the current copyright law says lifetime of author plus 100 years, meaning this piece of art is copyrighted until 2049. If you have reason to believe the copyright on the art has already expired, please make a note on the image page. Thanks. --Yamla 21:26, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It would seem the following tag under fair use can apply here (from Wikipedia:Fair use), on condition that resolution is decreased.
{{Art}}—for low resolution images of two dimensional works of art which were made in 1923 or later.
Equendil Talk 21:39, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that this would be a reasonable tag, provided of course that the mandatory detailed fair-use rationale is also added. --Yamla 21:54, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Image problems[edit]

I have also flagged some additional images as missing source or valid licenses. In many cases, it looks like you took the picture but then did not specify this specifically or chose an incorrect license. I'm sorry to be a pest but could you please fix these following images? Thanks. --Yamla 21:29, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Please reread WP:IDP, specifically the bit on fair-use. Just copying and pasting the license text does not count as providing a detailed fair-use rationale for each use of the images. --Yamla 02:27, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Please do not simply remove the notice indicating that you have not yet provided "a detailed fair use rationale for each use" without actually providing such a detailed rationale. Thanks. --Yamla 16:11, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Dark Angel Series DVD Packages.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Dark Angel Series DVD Packages.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 03:34, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, To assist global anti-counterfeiting efforts you may wish to consider marking images of banknotes you upload as "Specimen" in some way, if those banknotes represent legal tender.ShakespeareFan00 16:28, 19 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:1989 halfQuetzal.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:1989 halfQuetzal.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 18:47, 13 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Ker Guerin Ile d Yey.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Ker Guerin Ile d Yey.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. J Milburn (talk) 02:16, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please claim your upload(s): File:Whiteout December 25, 2002.jpg[edit]

Hi, This image was seemingly uploaded prior to current image polices, Thank you.

However, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure all media on English Wikipedia is correctly licensed and attributed it would be appreciated if you were able to confirm, that it was your own work, by marking it as {{own}}, amending the {{information}} added by a third party, and by changing the license to an appropriate "self" variant. You can also add |claimed=yes to the {{Media by uploader}} or {{Presumed self}} tag(s) if present to indicate that you've acknowledged the image, and license shown (and updated the {{information}} where appropriate).

IF you have other uploads, please consider "claiming" them in a similar manner, You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

This will assist those reviewing the many many "free" images on commons that have not yet been transferred to Commons. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 17:44, 10 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
