Actually I have decided to agree on the removal of the infobox when I saw a recent reply by Truthkeeper on the Infobox section of the talkpage. When he provided the WP:Disinfoboxes link I had a peek and understood that disinfoboxes are infoboxes that have no additional encyclopaedic value and a repetition of facts. I realise that all the content inside the infobox is unreferenced. So it's better to leave it rather than have all the facts being challenged by some person who floods the box with tags. Well, I respect your decision, but I have to ask, shall we remove the lead section of articles also? Both the lead and the infobox are supposed to summarize the cited content in the body of the article. According to the MoS, there shouldn't be citations in the lead section because the citations are in the body of the article. The infobox is precisely parallel to this. Dear friend, Looks like you completely missed the point. It is a general practice to include only the official language script in articles relating to geography, places where multiple ethnic people reside. In case of India, You can look for yourself that only Hindi language is shown in its wiki page (because it is the national language) even though constitution of India recognizes 22 other official languages. Take a look at Kanyakumari, Nagercoil or Padmanabhapuram pages, you can find that all these places are located in Tamil Nadu, where Tamil is the official language ( and all those pages have Tamil script added), even though there is a sizable Malayali population there. An act of including Malayalam script in those pages are dealt with much force. In this type of cases a mention is given about Malayalam as the major language in the region in the content of the article rather than scribbling Malayalam script in the article. Similar is the case with Palakkad, which even though in Kerala has a sizable Tamil speaking population.

Regarding the IP, Look at this edit by him. In Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, Majority of the population are Tulu speaking, but the district has a sizable population of Kannadiga, Konkani and Malayalis. Instead of highlighting the fact, the respected IP is trying to hide it. This act can be regarded as an act of language fundamentalism.

Ofcourse... When I was a toddler in Wikipedia, I too had a habit of scribbling language scripts over some geographical pages which had mixed ethnic population. Those days this resulted in edit wars which put me in some or other kind of trouble. After spending some tough early life in Wikipedia, I concentrated more towards content creation and fighting Vandals. Your question about unwatched pages...

The reason why non-admins cannot see the list of unwatched pages is the same as the reason why you wouldn't put up a list of houses which are left unlocked while the owners are out... you would be inviting trouble!

If vandal-001 could see a list of unwatched pages, then they would know that they could vandalise those pages and no one would see the vandalism on their watchlist, as no one has it on their watchlist.

It is the same reason why one of the available tools (I can't remember which one off the top of my head) which shows how many people are watching a specific page will only give the number if it is more than 10 (or something like that) - otherwise it just says "under 10" - although admins can see the precise figure. If a vandal knows that only 2 people are watching a page, then they know the odds are higher that they can vandalise the page without it being noticed: if there are 2000 watching it, they are more likely to be caught.

I hope that makes sense, that I've explained it well!

Hi Minimac, nice to meet you at the Oak, maybe see you again next month? The little project I mentioned is at User:Botlaf - if you are interested, the reports I'm struggling with are the N, C, F and D words at User:Botlaf/Abuse, and bollocks, poop and pubic at User:Botlaf/Poop Patrol. If there are any there that you can confirm they just need adding to the safe page lists at User:Botlaf/poop etc, and of course if you spot ones that are vandalism they can go - but I hope I've screened out the obvious vandalisms already, I just need to confirm that the ones that look OK are OK as the report is limited to 100 examples per query and its getting clogged with music stuff. Copyright cleanup

Hi! It's nice to see other people working on copyright cleanup. I do have two comments though.

First, I reverted your icon change to Template:Uw-copyright as it is a warning template, not just a copyvio notice. I'm open to discussion about this of course.

Second, please don't remove {{copypaste}} tags simply because no source is provided. If you cannot identify a source then please either leave the tag or remove it and replace it with {{Cv-unsure}} on the article's talk page. If there's absolutely no indication of copyvio or there's evidence that the content evolved here naturally, then go ahead and replace it, but please mention that in an edit summary on the article's talk page. Thanks for the info in the second comment, and I will take this info forward. I didn't use to work this quickly but on that day I did that time and fell into the trap thinking that some editors are going tag bombing. It states that "Adding tags to articles should be accompanied by detailed reasoning on the tagged article's talk page to explain why the tags are needed.". I think in terms of copypaste, the following question should be asked "Where did the source come from?" because the article could be copied from many different sites around the Web. Let me start by apologizing for my rather abrupt comments yesterday, I/we really do appreciate the help, I was just worried that the suspicions of copyvio would be lost, and I spent a decent amount of time this weekend getting them organized and didn't want to see my work be for nothing.

Anyways, it certainly would be nice if all of the copypaste tags mentioned a source, but with the subtle differences between this tag and {{subst:copyvio}} and {{Close paraphrasing}} and the obscurity of {{Cv-unsure}} I'm just glad that people tag the problems at all, let alone with the right tag or with all of the details filled out. I figure it's our job as editors trying to clear potential copyvios to investigate and ask your question of "Where?" even if the tagger didn't.

In my experience the vast majority of content that strikes another editor as being a problem is a problem, whether it's a simple fix of providing attribution or a mess of tracking down a paywalled source or an obscure reference book to figure out just where the copyvio's from. Youvan's Apologetics

Hi and Thanks for your help. I'm OK with the deletion / redirect that you did with Douglas Youvan. But, I still don't understand if the text from that deleted article exists on a page I can't see. Is it just the title of that deleted page that is saved for the redirect?

Can you also help to explain to me why a biography, published on a website, free for anyone to read, and without copyright is unreliable? I know Youvan favors ebooks and does not like the industry revolving around pay-to-read. As his biographer, I am very confused. Do we basically need to cite articles in the mainstream of paper publications that comment on Youvan's apologetics?

I am also trying to imagine this scenario if someone like Richard Dawkins published in an unprofitable manner on a website so everyone could read his book without paying!

I see you don't like MS Vista. (LOL, it's a spinal reflex thing.) What if MS Vista put something up on their corporate website? Can a wiki editor quote that? Is that considered more reliable than an e-book on a website? Where do I find out about wiki rules on this stuff?

Copy/paste cleanup

I would once again like to say that your help with clearing copyright violations is much appreciated, but please be more careful when removing tags. You removed the "tag bombing" from Kerala granthasala sangham when it was a clear copyvio - probably even G12'able. You also removed the tag from Business for Economic Security, Tourism and Trade based on an unverified statement from the article creator. We can not simply take their word on it, they have to follow the steps at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials, and until/unless they do the article should be tagged with {{subst:copyvio}}. The tools certainly are useful at WP:SCV. ^_^ I completely agree with you as far as most cleanup tags go unless the problem is blindingly obvious, but (and I know I'm biased here) I think copyright tags merit more attention than most others even without explanation. Of course, you've been doing an outstanding job at cleaning out the backlog since the number of articles with {{Copypaste}} has dropped from 520 to 355 in 3 weeks. At this rate the backlog will be completely eliminated in less than two months (and should stay that way since all new taggings are going straight to WP:CP). Hi Minimac, re the IMDB template. We are trying to replace the old dialogue:

ad infinitum

With:

• This is sourced to IMDB which is a problem because ....
• OK howabout this other source.

I'm not convinced that all the editors who source things to IMDB have got the message yet, but using the {{BLP IMDB refimprove}} template means that we can communicate with them more effectively. Also please remember that BLPprod is for unsourced new BLPs not poorly sourced ones. I tried unsuccessfully to get consensus in the last RFC to broaden sticky prod to ones where people had links to Myspace, LinkedIn Utube and Facebook but consensus was that at the moment we only stickyprod BLPs where people haven't made any attempt to source them. So there are two different tests - IMDB is enough to prevent a stickyprod being applied but not to remove a valid stickyprod. Cheers, PS are you coming to the December meetup? Speaking of the article Jo Champa, I didn't see the IMDB part of the article and accidentally left it out while I was tagging it as unreferenced. Anyway, in terms of the BLPprod, do you have any evidence of where I misplaced a BLP prod tag or are you assuming that Jo Champa was made after 18 March 2010? Robinson, IL article

Hello, I noticed you had been helping on the Robinson, Illinois with the recent edit wars regarding Calli Cox. Immediately following the protection status dropping from the page the link to notable person Calli Cox was again editing out by an unsigned IP address. Numerous attempt have been made to the editor to explain the content removals which have ultimately resulted in the editor only stating that the persons notability is only a matter of opinion (see the editor's talk page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:173.31.34.252 )

Multiple attempts have been made to communicate with this editor, the most recent one on the articles talk page seems to have been totally ignored. you're probably right. I probably shouldn't have used rollback, but in my defense the user I reverted was wrongfully marking things as 'vandalism' when reverting them with TW. You removed a CSD tag on the article Robert L. Hi Minimac. yes it's obviously a hoax. problem is, there are sure to be real people out there with the name Jonathan Briggs, and any one of them could sue us for allowing crap like that to stand.
