Sistine Chapel ceiling[edit]

If we ignore James Beck entirely, we are still left with this. This is my summary of The statement made by Colalucci concerning Michelangelo's method. Note that this sequence of statements come directly from the restorer, and all from the same Appendix:

A summary of the relevant statements of Colalucci, in the order that they occur in the Appendix entitled Michelangelo's colours uncovered is as follows:
  • The elderly restorers who had taken part in the restoration of the 1930s were interviewed as part of the preparatory process. They claimed that Michelangelo worked over the frescoes a secco using velature or glazes as a binder.
  • Colalucci rejects this, stating that Michelangelo worked exclusively in buon fresco.
  • Colalucci then contradicts this by stating that Michelangelo had worked a secco, but "to a minimal degree" and "not at all in the lunettes".
  • Colalucci then talks of Michelangelo's "rigorous maintenance" of buon fresco technique
  • Colalucci contradicts this by describing the a secco retouchings that Michelangelo made to the shoulder of Eleazar and the foot of Reboam, both of which are in the lunettes.
  • Colalucci then says that Michelangelo worked in buon fresco with "no pentimenti proper", (pentimenti means the changes) but only small corrections in fresco.[4]

So without any resort whatsoever to James Beck, we have been given good reason why the restorers needed to approach the job with far more caution than they did.

The restorers stated that their aim was to respond to their findings, each step of the way. Contrary to this, they established a three-stage procedure which was applied across the whole surface. This in itself is very poor restoration practice, and is in direct conflict with the principles of ICOMOS.

James Beck blew the whistle, but many others agreed with him.

Information icon Hello, I'm TJRC. I noticed that you added or changed content in an article, Abe Fortas, but you didn't provide a reliable source. It's been removed and archived in the page history for now, but if you'd like to include a citation and re-add it, please do so. You can have a look at the tutorial on citing sources, or if you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you. TJRC (talk) 22:16, 21 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Citations, verifiability etc[edit]

Hello! I see you have twice been asked, above, not to add uncited stuff to articles. Wikipedia requires verifiability from reliable sources. As to your persistent attempts to add to the Carmen article, please consider how relevant it is to the article about the opera to make a big deal of one American company's move of the ballet from one act to another in one of its productions: another thing we require in Wikipedia is a sense of proportion. As to your "I will contact an administrator on this", pray do, of course. I hope my comments help you understand how Wikipedia works. Best wishes, Tim riley talk 14:13, 26 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and I see from your latest edit summary that you also really need to read WP:LEAD to learn what does and doesn't go in the lead section. It really would be to everybody's benefit if you familiarised yourself with WP:V, WP:RS, WP:UNDUE and WP:LEAD, before making any further snide comments about other editors' "egoism" or accusing them of being the problem, which is in fact, your failure to follow the above four policies. I hope this helps you understand better how Wikipedia works. Tim riley talk 14:48, 26 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
