Clocks run slow in gravity?[edit]

That clocks run slow in a gravitational potential is an interesting effect of general relativity. But put in that way is misleading, although it's common even among physicists. It's misleading because it evokes the idea of gravity acting thru some mechanism to slow the clock. The right way to look at it is that deep in the gravitational potential there is less time. The clock continues to measure one second per second wherever it is along it's path thru spacetime. Consider two paths between the same two events. If one path goes near a massive body then it will take less proper time than a direct (geodesic) path between the two events.Meekerdb (talk) 18:34, 24 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
