Taranaki Rugby Academy
Hi there, just doing some new article assessment and you'd know whether the Taranaki Rugby Academy is a proper club or just a short-term training programme. If the former, a player would presumably come within WPNZ; if the later, probably not. Case in point is David Tameilau. Schwede66 05:00, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
- From what I can gather, they are talking about the academy/development side that is below the Taranaki ITM Cup side. This Article suggests they only spend 8 weeks here, so I wouldn't tag them with a WPNZ tag based on just that. Mattlore (talk) 05:04, 11 February 2016 (UTC)
Leigh Centurions template

Hi Mattlore. Since your probably one of the greatest legends to ever edit Rugby League articles (haha). I do alot of work on the history of Rugby Union (as you may know), I'm intrested in helping out the Rugby League side too. I know my way around the game and frequently watch the Warriors so I'm not new.
Are their any special sites that you would go to, to find info about older players - meaning players that are probably dead. I'm focusing on Kiwis representatives.. USA Rugby
Hi, I'm contacting you as you're a user who edits articles for both Rugby union & league wikiprojects, could you please take a look at a little dispute going on at USA Rugby between myself and User:CUA 27. For me, someone could easily find themselves at USA Rugby while looking for USA Rugby League, so I included a WP:Hatnote to USA Rugby. The only reason CUA can give while continuously reverting me is that no one is that interested in USARL and therefore wouldn't make that error. Seems to be a blatant WP:NPOV violation by CUA, and I've asked him to stop. I've told him I'll take it to WP:ANI if needed, but I'd rather avoid that. As a neutral party with a foot in both League and Union camps, could you please take a look? If I'm in the wrong, I'll take it on the chin of course, but I feel I'm right to re-add the hatnote. Bradford Northern
I believe the use of full name Bradford Northern is preferable, as it helps to differentiate between this past incarnation, and its current incarnation of Bradford Bulls, and also differentiate between the previous "not quite" un-related club of Bradford FC. In addition, people from Bradford would historically refer to the club as Northern (some stalwarts still do), or now more commonly Bulls, so as not to be confused with City (that being Bradford City A.F.C.). - I agree, my understanding was it was more commonly called "Northern" than "Bradford" and so "Bradford Northern" is the name we should use. Club names' bracketed disambiguators
Hi, Mattlore. In this edit you changed the contents of Clive Churchill's infobox so that the bracketed disambiguator following Norths went from (Brisbane) to (BRL). To me this appears to be inconsistent with the way most BRL, NSWRL and any other RL clubs' names are given. Do you advocate a move away from city names to League acronyms?--Gibson Flying V (talk) 20:24, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

- Now that I've looked more closely it seems that Australian clubs have tended to have city names and New Zealand clubs, acronyms. I can see the arguments in favour of acronyms - shorter, allowing more space for the club names (especially in cases such as Wellington, Townsville and Toowoomba); and the more strict correctness of identifying a club as belonging to a League rather than to a city. But so far I've been in favour of city names because the only pertinent part of 'BRL' is the 'B', and within the borders of 'NSW' there can be more than two clubs with a name like Wests, Norths, etc. making 'Illawarra' or 'Sydney' a better descriptor that imparts immediate knowledge instead of relying on mouse hovering or link clicking; also the overlap with things like NRL and NRL, ARL and ARL, IRL and IRL, etc. However, I'm now starting to become a bit agnostic about the matter.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 19:31, 5 September 2016 (UTC)
NSW Cup - Ron Massey Cup - Sydney Shield
Hi Mattlore,
You do have a point about my addition of Ron Massey Cup and Sydney Shield information to the NSW Cup / Intrust Super Premiership season pages. If I were to rename as you suggest, however, I might upset the creators of the existing pages. For the time being, I wish to add to the existing articles until I have more information. From the NSW Cup/Ron Massey Club/Sydney Shield 2015 Grand Final programme, I have a list of Grand Finals in each competition, the point scorers and the teams. I have to either scan and OCR or type these out. I'm also planning to get Ladder/Table information for 2003-2011 competitions through microfilm of SMH or Daily Telegraph papers after the final round of each season.

Hello Mattlore,
After looking through microfilm reels of the Sydney Morning Herald and Daily Telegraph, I have tables for most, though not all, of the lower grade / tier competitions from 2003 to 2010. Before I set up pages, I wanted to canvass your thoughts. I like the idea of having all the competitions on one page, and using the info-box to summarise both / all three. So, I'm thinking of setting up the pages as, say, 2010 NSWRL season rather than as a NSW Cup page. This also makes sense, as before 2008, the competition was the Premier League. That name is already claimed by the association football page 2007 NSW Premier League season. Once established as 2xxx NSWRL season pages, there is a stronger argument to rename the existing NSW Cup pages.
Interested in your opionion.

Hey Nhoj1898, I would be supportive of having them at 2xxx NSWRL season pages and including more competitions. As long as the page is sourced then I don't see the problem. New Page Review needs your help
Hi Mattlore,
As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).
Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.
Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.
It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

New Challenge for Oceania and Australia
Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest!
