OurColony.net
[edit]Hi Matteh, my name is Jonamerica, I've been working on Ourcolony.
I'm new to wikipedia, infact the game ourcolony is what brought me here. I never thought I'd be editing a page here, I just had no interest in doing so, but when I saw the state of OurColony.net I knew I had to do something.
After working for a bit on OurColony.net however I found Ourcolony, a page covering the same information that was more informative and better written than OurColony.net. I recommended that OurColony.net be deleted in favor of Ourcolony, however that sparked some controversy that Ourcolony was created simply to get around the VfD; this simply is not true.
I did not create OurColony.net or Ourcolony, I simply wanted to make both of them better. If you check the histories of both pages you'll see that Ourcolony was created 2 days prior to OurColony.net, so this claim of circumventing the VfD is unjust.
The problem is that RickK has redirected Ourcolony to OurColony.net because he beleives he has a consensous to do so. Rick sent me a message saying that I shouldn't create new pages to get around a VfD and that he was redirecting the page for that reason. I sent him a message proving that Ourcolony was not created for that reason and reposted the page. I then got this message from him:
"stop removing the redirect. You are violating Wikipedia consensus. Discuss it on the VfD page and edit that page. RickK 04:49, Apr 11, 2005 (UTC)"
and:
"If you insist on deleting the redirect, I will list both articles in the same VfD. RickK 05:03, Apr 11, 2005 (UTC)"
He has decided to ignore the evidence and keep the redirect.
I'm at a loss as what to do next. I'm new here and am not sure of the process or what my options are. I've sent Rick many messages, but it appears he is on a crusade and is unwilling to bend. He has burnt me on the wikipedia idea, if this is the response that people get when they work hard to create a meaningfull page I can't see how this site is successful or tolerable.
I have Ourcolony backed up on my computer in proper formatting as a word doc. As far as I can tell I have 3 options.
- Wait for the VfD to come to an end (If I do this and OurColony.net is deleted, will Ourcolony as a redirect also be lost?)
- Recreate Ourcolony and let Rick put it up for VfD also
- Replace OurColony.net with Ourcolony text and headings
What is your advice? - Jonamerica
I have now reopened the notice board, if you are interested in contributing new topics, or in nominating articles for the Collaboration of the Week, which also received a revamp. Please post on the project's talk page if you show interest. Mike H 02:47, Jun 19, 2005 (UTC)
Revision3 Studios
[edit]Hi. I noticed that you voted to keep the Systm article on Wikipedia:Votes_for_deletion/Systm. Well, unfortunately, the article was deleted, and Systm was redirected to Kevin Rose. I recently created a new article for Revision3 Studios, the company that produces System and thebroken, and changed Systm to redirect there. Unfortunately, the Revision3 Studios article has now been nominated for deletion.
So, if you have a chance, please look at the Revision3 Studios article, and then go to Wikipedia:Votes for deletion/Revision3 Studios and vote to keep it. Thanks a lot, --taestell 16:58, Jun 22, 2005 (UTC)

Image replaced and up for deletion
[edit]Hi, I've replaced the image Image:US-la-no.jpg, uploaded by you, with Image:New Orleans, Louisiana flag.svg because SVG is a more suitable format for images with no photographic content. The original image has been listed for deletion—hope this is OK. –Mysid 07:22, 9 December 2005 (UTC)
Please notify the original uploader when tagging images without sources
[edit]I just found that Image:StargateCoordinates.png was deleted, and I'm a little miffed - you never notified me as requested by the nosource tag you placed. That image was a translated version of http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Imagen:StargateFuncionamiento.jpg and although there wasn't a copyright template on it this was stated right in the edit history. If you'd either checked that source yourself or notified me so I could have done so the image would have been saved. Fortunately it's not going to be too much trouble to re-create the image again, but it's more work than just checking the source URL would have been. Bryan 21:26, 14 January 2006 (UTC)
Mario Kart DS
[edit]Hello, Matteh. As a player of Mario Kart DS online, I was wondering if you would be interested in participating in weekly online tournaments for fun. I have an interest in starting up scheduled games in some way and to gauge interest for the game. Untagged image
[edit]An image you uploaded, Image:NO city seal.gif, was tagged with the {{coatofarms}} copyright tag. This tag was deleted because it does not actually specify the copyright status of the image. The image may need a more accurate copyright tag, or it may need to be deleted. If the image portrays a seal or emblem, it should be tagged as {{seal}}. If you have any questions, ask them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. -- 00:36, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

Age category
[edit]Hello! If you are receiving this message, that means that your user page is in a specific year category. Per a recent user-category per deletion, all specific year categories are to be deleted. If you wish to continue using year categories, you have two options:
- Using an age group category, such as Category:Wikipedians in their 30s
- Using a decade category, such as Category:Wikipedians born in the 1970s.
If you wish, you may do both. Hopefully, this change in categorization will be quick and painless. Happy editing! --An automated message from MessedRobot 12:56, 9 March 2007 (UTC)
List of Wii games
[edit]Hey there Matteh,
I've noted that you've contributed before to the List of Wii games. Just wanted to let you know that the list is getting ready for Featured status and is currently undergoing a Peer Review. If you can take a moment to look over the article and add your suggestions/comments for improvement here, it'd be much appreciated. Thanks! -Digiwrld1 22:05, 2 April 2007 (UTC)
UL photos
[edit]Hello, Matteh! If you get some better photos than the ones I stuck on the UL Lafayette page, I won't be offended if you replace them (e.g., a Martin Hall shot where the trees have leaves and aren't dormant like when I snapped the photo in January. Also, that Cypress Lake shot I have is very old and not the best). Thanks for keeping up with the page. I might try to expand it more this summer. All the best. Orphaned non-free image (Image:Caneslogo.gif)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Caneslogo.gif. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 20:23, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit]This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:Adventuresinodyssey.gif. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:17, 7 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. Super Mario RPG lists
[edit]Currently, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars has two lists pertaining to it (List of characters in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, and List of locations in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars). User:TTN decided it would be best to merge the lists into the main article and split Smithy Gang into those articles. I recently merged Smithy Gang into the list of chatacters by removing the non-notable characters, and I have asserted that a cameo section in the list of characters is valid, per Wikipedia:Trivia sections and Wikipedia:Handling trivia that uses Alex Trebek#Cameos as a good example. I have suggested that we rename the articles per Wikipedia:Requested moves#Requesting potentially controversial moves to something along the lines of Characters of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and World of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars or Mushroom Kingdom (Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars) just like Characters of Final Fantasy VIII and World of Final Fantasy VI or Gaia (Final Fantasy VII). I believe if these articles are to evolve beyond a non-notable list, they should be renamed. For example, List of Final Fantasy VII locations was merged into Gaia (Final Fantasy VII), because a World article is notable, but a simple list of locations is not. That is why there are other secions of the article to make it a World article. It simply has not been renamed yet.
TTN believes the citations in the development and reception sections of the list of locations, books and magazines, are trivial sources. When I added that the 3D perspective of the game is reminicent of Equinox to the main article, TTN removed it since my souce was "the opinions of the Nintendo Power player's guide writers". Although it was actually Nintendo Power magazine, I do believe a magazine is a reliable source, and I gave a page from Next Generation Magazine which also said the same thing. In addition, I was surprized that TTN said that it was from the players guide, since he claims to own the players guide for the game. He has not verified this, since I asked him for citations in May, "Could you look in the back of the Player's Guide and tell me what “types” of … Magic? I forgot what they call it in the game … well, anyways, what types of Special Attack or whatever it is (actually, could you find out what it's called?) there are? I remember some vaguely when I owned the guide like “Fire”, “Jump”, “Electricity?”, etc. Could you provide a citation, like the page number with a quote in context?" TTN replied that he was going to "get to it" (User talk:TTN/Archive 5#List of locations in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars). TTN claims the player's guide is "at the bottom of a box that's behind at least five others in a cramped space". Seeing that TTN did not recognize that the page was not from the player's guide when I provided a scan of the page in question from Nintendo Power shocked me. However, I have continued to assume good faith by not questioning TTN's honesty.
Per Wikipedia:Consensus#Consensus can change, I have offered five different reasonable, temporary compromises that might integrate my idea with TTN's.
- Go over the list of characters so we can delete non–notable characters
- Rename the articles by following the steps at Wikipedia:Requested moves#Requesting potentially controversial moves.
- Cut down the geography section list of locations by cutting it into the regional maps the adventures use when traveling from one to another. I can get pictures and write the fair use rationals, and someone can cut down the text that has no citation and does not allude to other media.
- Write the concept and creation and reception sections for the list of characters
- Write the concept and creation section for the main article
TTN rejected my compromise because it still keeps the articles. I agreed I would consider a redirect, but Wikipedia:Article size does not allow that, since the list of locations is currently 82 KB long. Instead, I agreed to help cut down the geography section that is the bulk of the article, but TTN rejected that as well because TTN states, "I am not interested in working on the article in regards to improving it." and "get past this "having sources automatically means that this information is good" mentality." TTN states, "I don't think they have or will ever assert notability." I have replied with, "Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, so if you don't think the articles will ever assert notability, we cannot yet know this, per Wikipedia:Arguments to avoid in deletion discussions#I don't like it.

I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 23:06, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Hack lim.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Hack lim.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 23:03, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Magilla.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading Image:Magilla.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image under "fair use" may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies for fair use. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a fair use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the fair use policy require both a copyright tag and a fair use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it might be deleted by adminstrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 15:49, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:Termina.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Termina.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Unreferenced BLPs
[edit]Hello Matteh! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. if you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 139 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Re: Deleting content from 'Animal Crossing' page?
[edit]Hi Matt I found this today when seaching for something on wikipedia. I was not logged in at the time.
"User talk:82.42.41.249 From Wikipedia,
Please do not replace Wikipedia pages or sections with blank content, as you did to Animal Crossing (Wii). It is considered vandalism. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Thanks. --Matteh (talk) 19:08, 21 July 2007 (UTC)"
I have no idea whatever what this is about. I don't know the game nor any recollection of deleting or inserting space in pages... and/or this page in particular... nor do I own a wii. Also, I'm not aware of my having a new IP address.
Matt, I know you're communication was in good faith but it's a bit raw to sit here and to seemingly have the finger pointed at me for something I know nothing about. That said, I regard it as history now aqs it has been some sort of glitch.
Cheers Thru-a-hoop (talk) 08:47, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
The date on that signature puts the edit in mid 2007. It's unlikely you had that IP address that long ago, so feel free to ignore the message. --Matteh (talk) 01:21, 7 October 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia Campus Ambassadors wanted at LSU
[edit]Hi! I'm leaving you this message because you are listed as a Wikipedian in Louisiana. The Wikipedia Ambassador Program is currently looking for Campus Ambassadors to help with Wikipedia assignments at Louisiana State University, which will be participating in the Public Policy Initiative for the Spring 2011 semester. The role of Campus Ambassadors will be to provide face-to-face training and support for students on Wikipedia-related skills (how to edit articles, how to add references, etc.). This includes doing in-class presentations, running workshops and labs, possibly holding office hours, and in general providing in-person mentorship for students.
Prior Wikipedia skills are not required for the role, as training will be provided for all Campus Ambassadors (although, of course, being an experienced editor is a plus).
If you live near Baton Rouge and you are interested in being a Wikipedia Campus Ambassador, or know someone else from the area who might be, please email me or leave a message on my talk page.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 17:13, 6 December 2010 (UTC)

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference
[edit]Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.
On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true
. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false
in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.
For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.
Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:45, 15 March 2011 (UTC)
Non-free rationale for File:Mathnet.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Mathnet.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page.
