Help Editing

[edit]
Marlith, I would like to seek help from you to edit the article about Miss Earth in order to remove the advertisement tag. I have removed a lot of peacock wordings and advertisement lines but still unsure if the advertisement tag should be removed now. I think the "Pageant system" section of the article needs to be reformed. Thank you in advance!

Thank you very much for the helpful references and for the welcome words from you. I will use the Wikipedia guides that you shared to me as a reference in the future and for sure I will read it over and over again. --Richie Campbell (talk) 22:27, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Dear WikipedianMarlith, here is a little note to say thank you for your kind support on my request for adminship which succeeded with a final result of (72/19/6).

Speedy deletes of user talk pages

[edit]

I declined the speedy deletion of User talk:Alfaba, User talk:AntiClueBot, and User talk:Kkrouni‎ because I did not understand what deleting those user talk pages had to do with non-controversial housekeeping activities. Generally, user talk pages do not make good candidates for speedy deletion so there needs to be a specific rationale to do so. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 01:28, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

AACCcckkkk!!! OK, the userpage of the author was up for MfD, I opined that I might bring this article to AfD, the author then blanked the article, someone on patrol reverted it as vandalism, I then undid the revert so I could nominate it for CSD, I added {{db-blanked}} but ran into an ec because of [3]. Since I have to explain it, I believe you should not be deleted.--12 Noon  05:40, 8 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Marlith, I notice you added a username block notice to User talk:TOILET WATER. I have a couple of issue with this. First there was already a block notice on this talk page and the user was indef blocked for vandalism, not for an inappropriate username. Second, by placing a block notice on the talk page you implied that you were the blocking admin, which you were not. Could I ask you to take a little more care in the future, even with highly inappropriate users like Toilet Water? Thanks, Gwernol 01:47, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Forgive me for that and thanks for the note. I will take more care in the future. Marlith T/C 01:55, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, just wanted to point it out. Its definitely not a big deal. Thanks for the reply. Best, Gwernol 02:04, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's ok. However, there's little point in archiving -- my IP number shifts, and experience tells me if I can end up with an address from which someone else has used to edit (which has happened on a couple of times), then someone else can end up with my old number (and would be very confused about a conversation they'd never had). Hello Marlith. The reference to World Book Online that you recently added to Encyclopedia Britannica refers to a general article about encyclopedias by Paul Kobasa that can't be opened by those who don't have an account at World Book Online. Re your adoptee

[edit]

Hi. I was just going through the category of users requesting adoption, trying to clear out any that have already been adopted etc. I notice that you seem to have adopted User:YouWiki. I would like to ask you to look into two things please: first of all, the user has three adoption templates, including one indicating that the user has been adopted by you, and another one requesting adoption. I'm wondering if the latter is there in error and can be removed, to help clean up the adoption category (since I think usually one adoptee has only one adopter, though an adopter can have more than one adoptee). The other thing is that the user seems to have redirected their user and talk pages to pages with confusing strange-font names, making it difficult and confusing to find out what the user's actual username is. This could be a barrier to people trying to communicate with the user. I wonder if I could ask you to influence the user to have a more conventional user talk page. Thanks! --Coppertwig (talk) 22:40, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. Regarding blogs, will it be deemed unacceptaable if I create a blog that is solely relavent to Wikipedia?

Is Wikilove commonly refered to around here, or was it made with good intentions but usualy ignored, and iregardless to the editing of Wikipedia (note that I completely support Wikilove-it's just that I am wondering if it is commonly refered to and/or mentioned).

I've reverted some large edits by another editor to this article of yours - because they seemed to me to be 'cover' for the insertion of a link to a (rather terrible) pay-per-essay 'mill'. Your tutorial

[edit]

You indicated, both at User:Enochlau/Signpost tutorial series and at this posting at the Signpost that you'd completed a tutorial on vandalism fighting. However, you've not provided a link on the tutorial series page to the page with your tutorial, as the other editors have done (at least for completed tutorials).

If you haven't actually posted the tutorial to Wikipedia (as a subpage), you need to do so in order that other editors can review it. It's never going to get into the Signpost otherwise. If the tutorial does exist on Wikipedia, please link to it.

Until you do link to it, I suggest that you remove the "Done" annotation in the table listing the tutorials. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 20:42, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I finally figured out those Parser Functions! But I don't know how to use them well. Remember {{Bluebox1}}? Well, it's siblings were deleted, so I moved it to {{Standardbox}} and gave it parameters, like the {{Joy Message}} I made. For example:

  • {{Standardbox|A bullet}}
  1. {{Standardbox||Numbered Text}}

Well, the only thing is, it doesn't allow for more than one of each, and I don't exactly know what I'm trying to do. Help/Suggestions? PS I intentionally did the box like that. Yamakiri TC § 03-8-2008 • 00:19:44

Vandalism reversion

[edit]

Hi. If you are reverting vandalism, please make sure to double check your reversions, and if you've made a mistake, to self-revert: [5]. It is frustrating to actually make a genuine change to the encyclopedia, only to have someone who is going too quickly revert you without comment. 64.178.97.27 (talk) 23:53, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, no problem, just constructive criticism. May I suggest that most people who are vandalizing a page aren't going an edit summary: if you have access to edit summaries on your screen, this might help with the process. 64.178.97.27 (talk) 23:58, 29 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Reversions??

[edit]

I have no problem with you making sure that wikipedia is correct, but why did you revert the edit that i made? it certainly was not vandalism, and it is simply insulting to be reverted without you giving an explanation. Thank you.

Thanks for uploading Image:April Fools Page.JPG. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:20, 4 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Marlith,

Thanks for offering to write articles for the Wikipedia Signpost tutorial series. Just letting you know that we have run out of tutorials to use in the Signpost, and so if you have time, it would be great if you could make a start with some of the topics that you have claimed, but not yet finished! Thanks! enochlau (talk) 23:37, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

399 to go

[edit]

We are almost done, Category:Articles lacking sources from June 2006 is down to less the 400 articles to find references for. I would like to thank you for listing yourself as a volunteer at Wikipedia:Unreferenced articles and would like to take this opportunity to invite you to visit the project again and work on getting the last few articles referenced. We started with 5,572 and we are in the home stretch, please come and try to do a couple a day and we can finish it up in no time. Jeepday (talk) 02:22, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Delete?

[edit]

Sir, how would one request to have an article deleted? Master Redyva 13:46, April 19, 2008 (UTC)

Thank you Sir for your quick reply and always I thank you for your help and reliable info. Please see Joachim Koester. I believe this article needs to be deleted : Low quality external links; Poorly sourced (reliable third-party sources?); Wikipedia:Notability, is Joachim Koester notable? Tell me what you think. Thank you again Sir. Master Redyva 15:52, April 19, 2008 (UTC)
"I can NOT emphasize this enough. There seems to be a terrible bias among some editors that some sort of random speculative 'I heard it somewhere' pseudo information is to be tagged with a 'needs a cite' tag. Wrong. It should be removed, aggressively, unless it can be sourced." –Jimmy Wales
ALSO: External Links appear to be studios or info about exhibits. I wonder if this could fall into WP:NOT#MYSPACE. Master Redyva 15:52, April 19, 2008 (UTC)
Thank you as always Sir. Master Redyva 17:04, April 21, 2008 (UTC)
Might as well withdraw it, even though I still believe it is a "piss poor" article. Thanks as always and I hope you have a good day Sir. Master Redyva 16:24, April 23, 2008 (UTC)

NAIR?

[edit]

Hi. Your edit summary on the Attack on Pearl Harbor says "NAIR" which is an acronym I'm not familiar with. I assume the "R" might stand for "reference", but what does the rest mean? Thanks. Ed Fitzgerald (unfutz) (talk / cont) 00:28, 20 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

10,000 edits

[edit]

Hi there, i put my name on the barnstar list for 10,000 edits by the end of the year. Ive just made 10,000 but about 2,000 of those were in 2007. Just to clarify, am i entitled to a barnstar now or do i need to make the additional 2,000 edits? Please feel free to reply at my talk page. Yours very much. Wikipedia:User categories for discussion: "Category:Wood Badger Wikipedians". Kind Sir, what are your thoughts on this? I am under the impression it is a silly catergory that needs to be deleted. Oh, never mind, I don't have an article. THE FRIGGIN' THING WAS A7'd JUST SEVEN MINUTES AFTER BEING CREATED! And I know that I always loose in arguments on Wikipedia, and the lack of conductive debate and the overly bureaucratic nature of the system makes me want to log out and never come back. But I can't use making a new account to solve my problems so I'll just fall out of tune with the Wiki. Yamakiri TC § 05-8-2008 • 22:43:07

The Invisible Barnstar
Thank you for your continued work and assistance on Wikipedia:Unreferenced articles, referencing and generally cleaning up articles that have needed attention for a long time. Your good work goes unseen unless someone disagrees ;) Jeepday (talk) 12:02, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The huge set of unreferenced articles from June of 2006 is finally completed. Thank you for your contributions. The new focus at Wikipedia:Unreferenced articles is Category:Articles lacking sources from July 2006 which as of May 28 is only 1,322 articles and should go much quicker. Shooter Maker

[edit]

Hi, I'm the one who used to be at the IP of 66.41.141.11. That was before I moved and before I registered here at Wikipedia. I just now discovered that the page (Shooter Maker) was deleted. Thanks for offering me the chance to give my input, although I arrived too late.

Unfortunately, there really isn't much information on the software and no one seems interested in it. I created the page first in hope that someone who knew something about it could help it along. However, that didn't happen. I do actually have the software and have used it. However, I had no sources except my own experience to base my information off of. Anyway, although it is sad to see the only non-obscure location on the internet to have information about Shooter Maker disappear, I must accept it's fate. However, if you can provide me with the content of the final version of the page, it would be much appreciated. I can't seem to find the content of the page anywhere. I would like to know what it ended up like in it's final state. Well, at least the Sim RPG Maker and Fighter Maker pages that I created are doing much better and have grown. Hello. I'm contacting you and other members of WikiProject Books in order to find if you are interested in collaborating to expand and improve The CIA and the Cult of Intelligence article to make it worthy of becoming a featured article candidate, in light of the fact that it is the first book the U.S. government ever went to court to censor before its publication. --Loremaster (talk) 22:21, 24 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just a heads up

[edit]

I thought you might like to know that the Awards Center page has been deleted, along with its newsletter.  :(

So, where do we go from here?

To new and even more interesting projects, of course!

As announced in the newsletter, I've been preparing to co-coordinate a large collaboration/competition called Around the World. It was going to be run at the Awards Center, but since that no longer exists, the collaboration will be hosted somewhere else.

Around the World will begin July 15th as planned - it's location will be announced soon.

It'll be a blast. In the competition, participants will be helping to develop over 200 pages (drafts, which will be moved to article space once they are ready), using advanced tools to edit every single one of them!

This is going to be interesting.

And the event shall have awards which are being created specifically for it as we speak!

If you would like me to keep you informed of this and other interesting collaborations I'll be working on and/or organizing in the future, please drop me a note on my talk page, and I'll be happy to keep you in the know.

I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

The Transhumanist 21:46, 26 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Signature

[edit]

Just a friendly note on your signature at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Matthew Cameron. To me, it just looks like a black box -- either my browser isn't showing the script correctly, or the font is so low contrast I can't see it. Thought you'd like to know it's hard to read. --Fabrictramp | talk to me 23:47, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
