Gemeinde Web sites
Is there any way we can edit the Ort in Deutschland template so that Web sites with long names don't make the infobox get wide? This would mean that we could include the whole address without having an aesthetically unpleasant effect. Ksnow (talk) 08:57, 23 December 2007 (UTC)Ksnow
Yes, I finished Rhineland-Palatinate, and Saarland is done. I am working on Saxony. Ksnow (talk) 17:02, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Ksnow

There are a huge amount of French communes missing aren't there!!! We don't need people taggin them like above. Are you going to set them all up? I'll give you a hand ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 21:59, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Yep theres a huge amount missing, after you;re Herculean effort with Germany and then Austria/Switzerland I wasn't sure!!! But I'm sure we can get it done between the few of us. There are a handful of other editors who are gradually doing it. User:Olivier, myself and a number of others. At present I'm just helped set up 50 new WIkiProjects for Africa and am rather busy at present but I'll add some when I have time. I had begun wroking through Ain and aimed to go through alphabetically so I know what's done. Stubbing them, without an infobox is quicker I agree!! ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 22:09, 21 January 2008 (UTC)
Thats great. I've seen at least another three editors regularly doing them too. AWB is probably the best way to get the pages up and running. Infoboxes can be added later. Some of the French sites have a lot of info on the communes too. Definately worth doing -if you could gradually work through them in alpha order I know where we are also. There are also hundreds of agglomeration articles missing -you know the cluster communes like there were with Germany ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 22:19, 21 January 2008 (UTC). What are you talking about? It doesn't make any difference ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 14:57, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
It doesn't matter does it? . The most important thing is that thes epages are started and can then be built upon. Am I missing something valuable here? ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 14:59, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Ahh I'm with you now thanks. ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 15:03, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes it would be great if you could sort out the double links so that we can go through and not have to dig out the wrong links. I am working through methodically through the departments alphabetically. If you could kind of help clear the pathway for me you wouldn't need to go back and find the doubles afterwards. Regards ♦ Sir Blofeld ♦ Talk? 16:52, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Samber, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Rivers of Romania
I am still compiling the data on rivers. When I will get all the basic information in place I will sort it out. The figures you indicate cannot be applied identically to all countries or all rivers. The size of the tributaries cannot be the same for the Mississippi and for the Mureş, neither can the localities. There are also other criteria for which rivers might be important, except their discharge. Just give me time to finish. I have not yet worked on the discharge data.Afil (talk) 17:23, 24 January 2008 (UTC)

That's difficult for me to believe, considering your contributions list. First, you've only made edits on the very narrow subjects of European athletes and European geography, and your edits often follow certain patterns:

You're generating full articles of content at an astounding speed and you aren't involved in that much actual discussion. So far, you've made roughly 1,500 comments on talkpages, while making roughly 42,000. Even if you're doing this manually, please stop. By flooding Wikipedia with so much content without discussion, you don't give users a chance to collaborate to dispute whether certain European athletes or European geography is notable.
And if you're not using an automation tool, then where are you copying this material from? ☯ Zenwhat (talk) 10:38, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Most of the folks seem to think I'm just paranoid and I'm willing to let it go, but I will say, though: What you're doing is bad for Wikipedia. Bots which generate geographical directories are bad enough. Even if you're doing it manually, it's just as bad. You've added tons of stuff that it would take years to pick through, just to read it all, to see if it's notable or encyclopedic. That's not really in the spirit of "collaboration," and I don't understand why you'd do this. But you can do whatever you want, I guess, and I'll just have to let it go. ☯ Zenwhat (talk) 10:01, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
Please don't stop your excellent work. Perhaps Zenwhat hasn't seen that you actually do return to your stubs and add infoboxes and other useful information, and that it doesn't take long to figure out that real villages are notable and encyclopedic... Happy editing, Kusma (talk) 10:22, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- Thank you! Actually all my edits he listed above (the pinkish collapsed thing) are additions of infoboxes to articles. I guess there's no way of pleasing him, so I won't try to. Markussep Talk 11:46, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
- He does a excellent work. He returns to his sites and he takes care on his sites. I think he is a wikiholic not a robot. Unvelieveable to read how much he is doing! The only point I dislike: Somebody is doing the job (on geographical sites for example) and the public link placed in the infobox is a other one. So third parties are the winners, my own work may is a gift for a competitor! Whats the problem if he is able to Copy and Paste in his articles? Everybody can do this on his own PC too and will do it approximately in the same time! --Atyx (talk) 09:42, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

Voluntary work
- If you think doing voluntary work without reward equals being cheated, that's your problem, not wikipedia's. Markussep Talk 00:30, 16 February 2008 (UTC) ***
Meanwhile, just for your information, the german Parliament is discussing voluntary work. People, still 40 years old, working as volunteers since the the left from university, did never a get salary as normal worker.
And did you know that 16 Million germans are working for less than € 5,-- a hour? A woman, working as hairdresser was shown on SAT TV, is earning € 3,25 per hour!
So what is the problem if I request my url as main url in the infobox on a wikipaedia site I created with your help? Wid did the job together, I offer you € 1,625 for your voluntary work! :-))

Overestimate my work? Sure not *g*
To make my City map takes much time. I´m proud I did it - but I dont think I'm the greatest, just feeling well I did it - nobody else did it since 2002 and guess why. I know too much about Internet and all the new technics to overestimate something in this field.
Translate the german article, no problem for me, go ahead but close my article forever in this case even if it is gest of courtesy.
I'm also loosing interest in discussing this issue but wikipedia should take this seriously. No problem to place a link on my HP to the public HP - not as a gest of courtesy just to make the decision for wiki easier. --Atyx (talk) 16:36, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
Stubs
I kindly ask you to stop creatin one-lined stubs about villages. It does us absolutely no help by saying "ABC is a village and commune in the XYZ département of France." and telling us to see the French article. If you want to have an article on the places, I ask that you take a few moments to translate some information from the French article either from the text or the infobox when creating an article here. In its current state, articles such as Goulet, Orne really aren't telling readers anything. Before going on to making another stub, give the coordinates, population, etc. rather than bluntly telling others to see the French article. Thanks, Reywas92Talk 14:57, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe the editsummary was a little off - but the stub creation is no problem at all in fact rather a short stub than nothing as this makes it a lot easier to disambiguate incoming links. Agathoclea (talk) 15:02, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yes I realize that there is more to come and this is only the first step, but I really think that an article should be of reasonable length and be on the second step before moving on to the next article. Cheers, Reywas92Talk 15:08, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Did you know that the infoboxes on the French Wikipedia can be transferred here? Just copy and paste it from the French article to the English article. I have already done so at Saint-Pierre-d'Entremont, Orne. I would really appreciate it if I could really learn something from these rather just being told where it is, and the infobox helps. Reywas92Talk 15:14, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
French communes
I'll give it a shot, but I probably won't be able to do many today; while I'm at home I'm on dialup, which makes heavy editing a chore. Besides which, we're supposed to be switching over to high-speed tomorrow, which means that I have to switch the computer tonight, so I won't have much time for editing.
I'll try and get the bulk of what's left done either Friday or Saturday, once I have access to a high-speed connection and some time on my hands. Sorry I can't be of more use today. --User:AlbertHerring Io son l'orecchio e tu la bocca: parla! 20:52, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi thanks for your support. It can get pretty infuriating the consistent negative messages that seem to collect on my talk page with all the work that we do, at times this site is the last place I want to be. Anyway as there aren't too many left to do now I'll create them with an infobox until they are completed. Then I think it should be a priority to add the infboxes and some basic details and try to sort out a map that can automatically be sorted for each one. Best regards ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:07, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
That would be awesome. I've done the same with over a hundred countries worldwide so most places can have a map. I really dislike the funny one we've got at present -too complicated. Oh the irony of you visiting France. Remember to take some photos!!! Regards ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:13, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Oh yes I much prefer the actual map rather than the bland one they use over on french wiki. I was talking about the way it has to be pinned. I think that map is very attractive -just needs to be made automatic , or made like the infobox settlement e.g like Abaw -where you enter the coordinates normally and it displays on the map ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 19:19, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
Tisza subbasin
The rivers of Romania are officially grouped in river subbasins. One of those is called the Tisa-Iza-Vişeu subbasin. Merging this with other subbasins, such as the Tisza, practically eliminates this information which is essential. It does not have only geographic but also administrative implications. River basin agencies exist in other countries too, therefore the issue is not related only to Romania. But in each country, just as the adminstrative departments or counties have to be taken into account, the official river basin division have also to be respected. It would be wrong to make rules of our own.Afil (talk) 17:08, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
I have posted my comments, but still fail to see your point. The Tisza River category has only a few big tributaries, the same as the Loire. Afil (talk) 18:17, 28 February 2008 (UTC)
French commune completion

Thats great I thought it had been done already though!! I#m gradually adding infoboxes and images to Yvelines first but it won't dominate my time on here. It will be a gradual thing and would be great if when you have sorted Germany and Austria if you could help. If I see other editors adding them I feel encouraged and vice versa. You;ve been there several times? How unusual! Looks a beautiful country . Well I do work on countries all over the world. I;ve managed to stub the districts today but frightfully little is available in english.I suggested to a user to add some places; we had about ten articles and now we have about 520 towns and villages!! There is so much missing it is quite insane. Here are some of the districts I;ve managed to start to date:

I can tell it is an amazing country thats why I;ve done a lot of work on it and tried to obtain some more photographs of it . Some the images of the mountains, lakes and the culture -you know the yurts and general culture blows me away. Geographically it is very similar looking to Tibet and mongolia and as you know I am obsessed with Tibet. A magical part of the world. I've managed to make an agreement with Joshua Kucera at flickr for wikipedia to use all of his images on central asia. This agreement isn't finalised yet because the ticketing needs sorting but it looks cool doesn't it! I'd love to visit that part of the world someday. There s also something amazing about wikipedia gradually revealing the ex-soviet republics to the world as there is something mysterious about them which few people know anything about at all. Uzbekistan, Tajikistan. Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan are countries I will be aiming to do some work on. Commune infobox
The "commune of" is very important, because French communes are very small administrative units, so it's important to keep it on top of the infobox to warn people that the information within the infobox concerns only the administrative commune and not the larger urban area/city. The commune of Lyon (Ville de Lyon) for example is extremely small, containing less than 500,000 people when in fact Lyon is a very large urban area with 1.4 million inhabitants. Intercommunalities have been created to better reflect the real size of French cities (for example Grand Lyon). The whole system is extremely complicated, which is why it is important to name things precisely (do we talk of the commune? the intercommunality? the urban area? the metropolitan area? the departmental arrondissement?). An infobox which would have only "Lyon" on top would be extremely unclear (is it the tiny commune of Lyon? the urban area of Lyon? the arrondissement of Lyon?). The task force dedicated to creating and improving articles on all German cities and municipalities is happy to announce that there are now (at least) stub articles for all municipalities of Germany. Now the task force is looking for help in fleshing these out a little bit. The current phase of activity for the task force is to copy in infoboxes from the articles in German Wikipedia. If you want to help, even just for a few articles, look at the instructions and links here
There are now way over 26.000 articles tagged as part of our Wikiproject and many still need either an importance or a quality assessment. Also there are many more out there that do need to be tagged like approx 8000 municipalities. I'm glad to hear that you are going to create pages for the cantons, etc. Is there any reason we have to refer to them as communes instead of municipalities? Ksnow (talk) 17:31, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Ksnow
- Oh, I misunderstood. No, I don't think we need pages for cantons, etc., with the possible exception of metropolitan areas (CAGs in French) which could link back to the city. That's why I thought Soisson would be more informative to the English-speaking reader than Soissonais.
- As for commune, I don't have any problem with the term itself, but I think our audience doesn't have a clue what it means. Certainly, it needs to be in italics, so they don't think of the English term, which means something completely different.
- Yes, I'm sorry I missed the s, but I do think its clearer to the English speaker than an unfamiliar adjective. Ksnow (talk) 21:26, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Ksnow
- I know that it is a noun, but the form is adjetival (or actually genitive "of Soissons"). Ksnow (talk) 21:32, 7 April 2008 (UTC)Ksnow

- This discussion rather belongs to Talk:Comitatus (Kingdom of Hungary) or on the talk page of a county than there. Squash Racket (talk) 16:22, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- Removed it from there per WP:TALK "Keep on topic: Talk pages are for discussing the article, not for general conversation about the article's subject (much less other subjects). Keep discussions on the topic of how to improve the associated article. Irrelevant discussions are subject to removal." moved it to Komárom county Hobartimus (talk) 16:46, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Citing wikipedia in debates about improving wikipedia
I don't think it's good practice like for example here [1], I didn't want to mention it the first few times you did it but you continue to do it while telling a user earlier that you "can't take them seriously" [2]. I see that you started implementing the "good compromise" you talked about by inserting dozens(hundreds?) of Slovak alternative names into articles while introducing exactly zero number of Hungarian alternative names, I hope it's not the final tally of your activity or it's not much of a "compromise". Hobartimus (talk) 18:55, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
- The second link you gave contains a sentence "Originally an early 13th-century Slavic trading settlement", so that's an intresting point, probably should be settled on the talk page of the relevant article. I'm also concerned that you started quote/diff mining a user outside of your "county area" while you previously refused to even look at edits of a certain user which were made outside the "county articles" even while you made comments about his contribs in general. Also the debate of wheter to use Slavic/Slovak also seems to be not county related, any specific reason for going outside the "county scope"? Hobartimus (talk) 20:19, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
- "Both are probably correct, and "Slovak" more precise. But correct me if I'm wrong." My feeling is that there is a difference similar to how we don't usually refer to Gauls or the population of "Gallia Aquitania" as French even though there is a connection. The present day Slovak government as you might know includes the "Slovak National Party" or SNS for which I think "far-right extremist" would be a fair description and this gives an "official voice" through which to spread some intresting rhetoric. Part of this rhetoric is trying to redifine ancient Slavic population of the region as (ősszlovák)(lit. ancient Slovak could be old Slovak etc) an effort resisted by moderate Slovak historians even. At least that's what I've read in sources(one such historians being Dusan Kovac). So anyway the debate might even have some political elements to it not an easy question. The small text refers to a bit earlier where you said "What I see, but I've only looked at the county articles" [3]. Hobartimus (talk) 22:27, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
- Yes the scan is not worth that much but how about the name Privilegium pro Slavis, I don't think the word Slavis could be translated into a whole different word. Anyway since you commented on a few issues can I ask you to comment on this [4]? I'm intrested your opinion on editing pattern(number of reverts which users it's reverting) edit summary usage using words like "bullshit" etc, could it be a sock puppet of another user? Hobartimus (talk) 13:49, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

My editings were not disruptive. You do not know the Central European history in detail only.Believe me that I know the local history well than you but I know very little about history of Netherland. Nmate(talk) —Preceding comment was added at 11:14, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
I never have been to Netherland. I know about Netherland that it is possible to legal somke joint in Amsterdam, and Netherland nation is not exist. But Flemish and Walloon nations are exist so I do not deal with Netherlands. We could be discussion partners if you know this area' history better. For example the strong Magyarization statement in the Trnava article is very injurious for Hungary.Because the Slovak nation was increased in over the past centuries (at the strong Magyarization time) but the Hungarian population was decreased from 1072000 to 520000 in Slovakia. The Slovaks are the best in the ethnic cleansing. If I would write it into Nove Zamky history that now it is the strong Slovakization time it would be wiped immediately.I wrote In my summary in Slovak language that I removed the obnoxious chauvinist edition by Tankred because He called me an obnoxious chauvinist in his farewell text. Nmate(talk)
- Sorry for interrupting, but isn't the sentence "The Slovaks are the best in the ethnic cleansing." rather inappropriate? --Ruziklan (talk) 13:45, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- Magyarization reported school closures simply, but very much Slovak was illiterate in that time.Slovak nation was increased in over the past centuries (at the strong Magyarization time). But the Hungarian population was decreaced from 565000 to 520000 from 1991 to 2001 in Slovakia.
This is not result of the Benes decrees. The Slovakization is not history, it is currently.Nmate(talk) —Preceding comment was added at 14:03, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

Couldn't find the article on it yet but it was not that long ago. Dear Markussep,
The language law is exists, but its contravention is not sanctioned simply (at the moment). Have you heard about that Slovakia confirmed the Benes decrees again? Did not mention it that Slovakia is a EU member at all. They comfirmed it again.Your imagines from central-Europe is very idealistic.Nmate (talk • contribs)

Altitude in French commune infoboxes
Why does the average altitude from the French infobox not show up in the English translation? A lot of the boxes only have the average, not the minimum and maximum (which do show up). Ksnow (talk) 22:37, 23 April 2008 (UTC)Ksnow
Sauze
That's the name of the band, the other article, which is a commune, can stay with the name Sauze, Alpes-Maritimes, there's no need to specify (band) next to Sauze, leave it the way it was before, not a disambiguation page. Thanks --Rockk3r (talk) 18:45, 25 April 2008 (UTC)
Names
Hi Markussep, could you please modify the proposed change B (Change "Between 1000 and 1918" to "Before 1918", and "Before 1000 and after 1918" to "After 1918") in a way that it would also include something like "The names in minority languages should be used only for the periods starting by the year when the name was first recorded in written sources"? We have discussed this issue and you seemed to agree with this criterion. I think this flexible starting date should replace 1000 in the proposal. I know it looks silly, but people here sometimes tend to look for gaps in rules. I will be happy to vote after this issue is addressed. Tankred (talk) 21:14, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- Just to give a heads up I would oppose this, as it does not make any sense to me. I think we struggle enough as it is without self-admitted "silly" proposals. Hobartimus (talk) 21:54, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- I do not understand. Why would you oppose a rule against anachronistic names (such as Pozsony in 907 - well before the name existed)? What exactly does not make sense to you here? Tankred (talk) 22:52, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
- Written documentation is rare in the Middle Ages, and usually not in the native language(s), I wouldn't make that a rule. Furthermore, I think there are very few instances where the name could actually be a problem, maybe Nitra. I suggest we leave this issue to common sense. Markussep Talk 06:40, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

New Project
Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.
If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 06:48, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

- Please delete your latest post it's unhelpful to list everyone's observations in this manner. It would get long and messy if everyone made their own list this way. Hobartimus (talk) 18:29, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- OK should I modify the points then to get a single list? There were already votes on a few things so those with a result should go to the consensus section with the points of the text that were never debated. Hobartimus (talk) 18:45, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- Some points were voted down to a degree that there is consensus that they can NOT be incorporated into the text in any form. However if you didn't go by the votes you then just wrote up your own observations as consensus? We then get back to the point that different lists are needed if nothing is used as "basis". Dabbing
Hi there. As you know we are preparing for the new Fritzpoll Bot which will aim to add over 1.4 million articles to wikipedia over the next few months. The missing lists have begun being drawn up by bot but could you give a hand in dabbing names or helping sort out appropriate titles for multiple places within the same district. I'm uncertain as to how I would find which place is which are the distance to nearest settlements. What you consider coordinates in brackets in the titles acceptable? Could you help this worthy cause?

(this is just an example) Imagine there are 5 settlements with the name Bago in this district and there is no other way to distinguish the difference between them. Obviously you cant have 5 articles with the same name Bago, Sonoma. So what would you do. Would you have e,g Bago, Sonoma (36 N 4 15 23 E) or what? ♦Blofeld of SPECTRE♦ $1,000,000? 14:18, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

Eibenstock edit
What do you mean by removing the image code and saying that the image is "unavailable"? A quick look at the article now will show that it is very available indeed. Rather than do such destructive things, why don't you try to improve things? Find the image and upload it to the Commons. While I was translating the articles about places in Aue-Schwarzenberg, I was forced to use a proxy, which will not accommodate huge files like that one. It would be nice if somebody understood this and helped instead of harming.
I don't know whether you've done any other such editing here, but if you have, please go back and consider undoing it and uploading the images to the Commons. Thanks. Kelisi (talk) 14:16, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- And you can still see here my nice little request for someone to enhance – not butcher – that article. Now, the job of inserting the images will be harder. Yes, destructive is the word. Kelisi (talk) 03:18, 30 May 2008 (UTC)
Move of River Thouet to Thouet over redirect: no disamb necessary
Hi. I note that you moved the article I recently created on the River Thouet to Thouet, with the comment 'no disamb necessary'. This raises an interesting question because I didn't put 'River' in the name as a disambiguator, but because I saw it as part of the English language name for that river.
Certainly when talking about rivers whose native name is English, it seems to be the norm to include River as part of that name. There is an apparant difference between UK English speakers, who tend to name rivers in the form 'River xyz' (eg. River Thames) whilst US English speakers tend to use 'xyz River' (eg. Hudson River). But both definately include the 'River', and most WP:en articles on UK and US rivers therefore include the 'River' in the article title even where there is no ambiguity.
However here we are talking about a river in France. Looking at WP:fr, it does seem as if there is no equivalent of this convention in French. On the other hand this is WP:en, and policy is to use English names where they exist. But I'm not sure how this applies here. What do you think?. -- Chris j wood (talk) 10:52, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Yes, it's easy for me to modify it, or even make a whole new one capable of showing more detail. This may take a while as I am unwilling to attempt this with my laptop, which is what I use overseas. Bratislava
Hi there!
- 1st, Bratislava name didn't use the Slovak nation before 1918. The widespread Slovak name was Presporok in that time. I know the local history more better as You.
- 2nd, My contributions were more as the location names corrections in the article! I added some important Hungarian related events to the historical chapter but Schcambo reverted all contributions immediately!
- 3rd, You reverted me at Juraj Jánosik so it would be just that You would make a revert
at my non location name's contributions on this historical chapter because I am under restriction no revert control.
Nmate (talk) 18:15, 10 June 2008 (UTC)
- I've had this conversation on my talk page as well, but just thought I'd clarify here: have a look at WP:COMMONNAME. It doesn't matter what the local name is if there is a far more popular name in use in English. For example, Mount Everest isn't called that by people in Nepal or Tibet. Similarly, it doesn't matter what people in Bratislava call Bratislava Castle; it is known as that in English so that's how it stays. --Schcamboaon scéal? 19:15, 10 June 2008 (UTC)

- Dear Markussep!
That is not personal my opinion. This is a very interesting sentence because does not imply it who and why accused the Hungarians cooperation with the Nazis:
In 1945, most of the Germans were evacuated, or after the restoration of Czechoslovakia, In 1945, most of the Germans were evacuated, or after the restoration of Czechoslovakia, displaced from the city, along with the Hungarians accused of cooperation with the Nazis.
Benes decrees and Reslovakization process would not be a trivial information here also.

I do not remember so kind of comproise at the Slovak-Hungarian experiment that Hungarian nobleman's surname should be use in Slovakized form: Zápolya (Zápoľský). - You see the problem is that I already know it's him. You even already know that it's the same IP same area of intrest, same article. I suppose you already know about dynamic IPs and how they work. You say I should file this or that and get confirmation and "I will know" then, but since I do know already the only new info out of a confirmation like this would be confrimation that you edited on behalf of MarkBA, restored his comments without him even asking, edited the article per his suggestions etc. So you see I'm getting nowhere there It will not resolve the problem. Hi Markussep, I was curious where you got your lists of municipalities for Armenian provinces, as none of the lists you have added seem to exactly match the census lists. Have you removed all of the villages within other municipalities, i.e. the "urban communities"? I'm trying to create a comprehensive list for the List of municipalities in Armenia article. That's how I noticed the discrepancies. Kaldari (talk) 23:26, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, in response to your question: originally I got the lists of municipalities from a law text (in Armenian, I had to transliterate myself to be able to read it, http://laws.am/DocumentView.aspx?DocID=12840, but since the original list disappeared you have to look for the cache now: http://64.233.183.104/search?q=cache:G12_ZHE3SO8J:www.laws.am/DocumentView.aspx%3Fdocid%3D33361+%D5%8B%D6%80%D5%A1%D5%BC%D5%A1%D5%BF%D5%AB+%D5%A9%D5%BC%D5%B9%D5%B6%D5%A1%D6%86%D5%A1%D5%A2%D6%80%D5%AB%D5%AF%D5%A1&hl=nl&ct=clnk&cd=8&gl=nl). That's also where I got the raion subdvision from. In these lists, all the villages are mentioned, not just municipalities. Most municipalities consist of only one village, but there are some with more, like Parakar.
- The lists I added match the census lists (like for instance http://www.armstat.am/file/doc/130.pdf), but as I tried to explain at Talk:Aragatsotn, you shouldn't use the first table in the census results, because that also lists villages that aren't independent municipalities. In the second table (with the population figures), some dependent villages are shown directly under the municipality, others are only mentioned in the footnotes (probably deserted villages). For instance in Armavir, Tairov is listed below Parakar municipality, and you'll see that the figures for the villages Tairov and Parakar add up exactly to the figure for Parakar municipality. Especially Shirak has a lot of dependent villages. I'll revert your Tairov edit now, if you have more questions just ask. Markussep Talk 08:06, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
- I still don't understand why we would not list villages within other municipalities. There are a few reasons I think we should list them:
- Most sources that I have seen treat villages that are within other municipalities the same as they would any other villages. For example, the Armenian National Statistical Service reports that there are 952 villages (gyugher) in Armenia, while the Armenian Embassy in Russia reports that there are 953 villages. Our numbers don't match these sources since we are filtering out villages within other municipalities.
- Villages within other municipalities are still municipalities (as long as they have an incorporated government). There are plenty of examples of this in other countries including the U.S. What is your basis for thinking that those villages would not be municipalities?
- We consistently treat municipalities within other municipalities as municipalities themselves in our U.S. articles. For example, there are 7 other incorporated cities within the city of Nashville. These cities are neither completely separate nor completely independent. They use a 2-tier system of government and are considered residents of both cities and get to vote for two different mayors. Yet we list all of them in our List of cities and towns in Tennessee article and they each have their own separate city articles (and are all considered municipalities by reliable sources and the U.S. Census). The fact that their territories are not 100% distinct from other cities should not cause us to treat them as non-cities or non-municipalities. I can provide many more examples besides Nashville if you'd like.
- Wouldn't it be better to list them, but add a footnote or some key to state that they are part of another municipality (like the census does). Otherwise we seem to be implying that they don't exist at all and it is harder to locate the articles for those places. Wouldn't it be better to err on the side of too much information rather than too little?

- I still don't understand why we would not list villages within other municipalities. There are a few reasons I think we should list them:
- Take for instance this data sheet from the Armenian statistics office. Shirak has 3 urban communities, 116 rural communities (what we call municipalities) and 127 villages. By definition a municipality must have some type of government. Your cities within Nashville apparently have separate governments. I don't think the non-municipal villages in Armenia (like Tairov) have that. Several of these villages don't even have a non-zero population. So villages like Tairov don't belong in a list of municipalities. If you like you can add footnotes in which the villages within the municipalities are named, but they aren't municipalities, and shouldn't be listed as such. Markussep Talk 19:13, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, I think I understand. So in the parlance of Armenian statistical documents "community"="municipality" and communities can either be "urban" or "rural". And this is totally separate (though similar) to the breakdown of "towns" and "villages". Would you say that is correct? If so, perhaps we should include both lists in the province articles. Kaldari (talk) 22:43, 10 September 2008 (UTC)

Also I would like to get your advice on what to do about the List of municipalities in Armenia article. If what you are saying is true and "communities"="municipalities", this article currently has the wrong content as it is a list of "towns" and "villages" rather than a list of urban and rural municipalities. Perhaps that article should be renamed List of towns and villages in Armenia and a new List of municipalities in Armenia article should be created. What would be your advice on how to resolve this? Kaldari (talk) 22:50, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
- If you have a chance, please join the centralized discussion of this issue at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Armenia#The reason for the discrepancies. Thanks for your patience in trying to explain things. Kaldari (talk) 23:10, 10 September 2008 (UTC)
- I think I've finally figured it all out. Kaldari (talk) 20:49, 11 September 2008 (UTC)

Hello. This is rather a technical question, try to ask at meta-wiki or some IT experts (t)here. As for the subcategories. It is a common convention here to subcategorize geographical features by countries and then by 1st level administrative divisions. All categories should be subcategorized in proper subcategories. The parent cat should be almost empty, see Category:Rivers of the United States or other similar cats. - Darwinek (talk) 13:52, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
- That's your point of view, community's seems to be other. We can't differentiate between large countries and small ones. Btw. Deutschland is a quite large country with many, many hundreds of rivers. DE wiki categorization scheme follows ours in this case. We just can't use "scheme A" for some countries and "scheme B" for others. - Darwinek (talk) 14:07, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
- WPP Rivers is a one big mess, loosely maintained since its creation. There wasn't such a discussion in this project, because all users (until now, right) agree with this. It is being used throughout en wiki as a rule of precedence for several years. It shouldn't and won't be changed rapidly today or tomorrow. - Darwinek (talk) 16:20, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
- After all, it depends also on quantity of river articles. That's why Russia is split, like Romania. Many articles about their rivers are there. It is only a matter of time when e.g. France or Ukraine will need split. You are right about Italy, it is quite a mess there, also due to categorization of redirects. - Darwinek (talk) 17:03, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
- Sure. I think categorization of rivers by 1st level administrative division, not by 2nd, is just fine. - Darwinek (talk) 17:18, 19 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi Mark. Hope you are well. I was filling in red links at Alpes-Maritimes. I should have google searched them first perhaps, but I assumed they had been linked correctly and was justifiable. The Bald One White cat 14:16, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
OK cool. Yes I;d noticed them red linked for ages and figured exactly somebody like Ksnow or Dickeybird might have expanded them eventually if not myself or Editor of thewiki. Hope you had a good holiday and took some images of some communes! The Bald One White cat 14:31, 19 September 2008 (UTC)
I wish I could remember where these came from the Braus might be the Redebraus, but it is probably not worth a mention, anyway. Feel free to nominate them for deletion.Ksnow (talk) 01:08, 22 September 2008 (UTC)Ksnow

Thanks for your help improving the Dutch Limburg list. I've created quite a few lists covering France, Belgium, the Netherlands and am currently working on Germany. Feel free to improve those too! If you want a quick link to the various lists I keep a sub-page of articles created and worked on at User:Mjroots/Articles. Mjroots (talk) 16:03, 18 October 2008 (UTC)
Communes
Good work with the rivers. One thing though remember to update the status French communes when you have finished adding a few as the last few occasions I;ve had to work out where you left off!Blofeld of SPECTRE (talk) 11:52, 23 October 2008 (UTC)
- I notice that the LoireAtlantique-geo-stub template is missing a flag. Can you update this?Ksnow (talk) 15:47, 31 October 2008 (UTC)Ksnow
Hi remember to remove the "official" name part for the municipality to appear in the infobox. See Gjepalaj Count Blofeld 20:46, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Albanian wikipedia has a few of them. . I think though they are entitled like Kommune ... though. Most of them are pretty empty though. Here is the Albanian kommune cat Count Blofeld 20:57, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
We already have most of the cities. A lot of them though need an infobox/map aded to them Count Blofeld 21:04, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
BTW if you are interested I need some help starting the municipalities of Mexico, some of them are several thousands square kilometres in size. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Mexico/State templates. I recently completed Chihuahua. Most of the templates need filling out like Template:Chihuahua with the municipalities/seats red linked from the municipal lists and started. There is a Mexican encyclopedia with details on them from which I obtained the info. Eventually they should all be expanded fully but first stage is to get them all started by state Count Blofeld 21:37, 7 November 2008 (UTC)
Le Mont-Saint-Michel
Currently, this redirects to Mont Saint-Michel. Since the official name of the commune according to the INSEE Web site is Le Mont-Saint-Michel, and the French Wikipedia page is spelled that way, I think this should be reversed. I have already edited the English page, so that the spelling is consistent (except in quotes and image titles), but I can't move it because the page already exists. How does one do this? Albania
I've started creating the templates for the municipalities of each county at Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/Albania/County templates. Could you please follow my example below and create the others and apply them to articles you have created/will create. I can give you a hand. I've also been tagging a lot of the articles you;ve started. Count Blofeld 16:12, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Well it might be useful to include rivers and other geo features in the templates too if they are prominent in one county for instance. I'm creating county categories so be sure to use these, Thanks Count Blofeld 16:18, 16 November 2008 (UTC)
Hi. I was wondering if you could help dab the remaining districts of Village Development Committee (Nepal). I've started 62 out of 75 just need to dab the others. The ones that haven't been dabbed yet are the ones which are in lists and with red links. Could you help? I'm hoping to get Nepal finished in the next few days Count Blofeld 16:22, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
What do you mean? Why do you need to know something about a country to dab an article Bhandara and change the link ready to Bhandara, Nepal? Count Blofeld 18:43, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
Also I have not abandoned the French communes project. I don't know whether you were implying this. I had hoped to get a bot to complete the task but to no avail. It will become a priority in a few days time. Count Blofeld 19:02, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
LOL yes or the trapdoor in the elevator trick. I'll join you in a few days with France hopefully we can make faster progress. Note though I wasn't asking you to start any of the Nepal articles. Just needed a hand with the remaining disambiguation that was all. I woould have asked the disamb King CarlosSuarez but I'd imagine he'd be as busy with Azerbaijan or getting close and smooching up to his missus Ugly Betty Count Blofeld 19:20, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
France
Hi. I've just been editing french communes and noticed that on French wikipedia for Pyrenees-Atlantiques we havepin maps of the department. Could you see about including the Image:Pyrenees-Atlantiques topographic map-fr.jpg in the French commune template? Another thing if you come across an article which has some paragraphs of info on French wikipedia please add a Template:Expand French at the top so it goes in the category for articles needing translation and to encourage editors to try to put it into english. Thanks Count Blofeld 17:04, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
Well I agree its not the best of maps . I'm not going to lose any sleep over it. Count Blofeld 20:34, 6 December 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for working on this. Please note this. Punkmorten (talk) 20:18, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

I just stomped your edit in Blue Mountain. Would you mind a re-do? Maury Markowitz (talk) 15:50, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
