Information icon Hello, I'm Ternera. I wanted to let you know that I reverted one of your recent contributions—specifically this edit to Pedro Sánchez—because it did not appear constructive. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you have any questions, you can ask for assistance at the Teahouse or the Help desk. Thanks. Non-free rationale for File:Gil Hillin Beverly Hills Cop (1984).webp

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Gil Hillin Beverly Hills Cop (1984).webp. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under the non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:19, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image File:Gil Hillin Beverly Hills Cop (1984).webp

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Gil Hillin Beverly Hills Cop (1984).webp. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:19, 19 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

License tagging for File:Gil Hill In Beverly Hills Cop II (1987).webm

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Gil Hill In Beverly Hills Cop II (1987).webm. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information.

To add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia. For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 11:31, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi MalborkHistorian. I think you've misunderstood some important things about Wikipedia:Image use policy. The person who takes a photo is, for the most part, the person who is considered to be the copyright holder of the photo, and only the copyright holder can release their photo under a Creative Commons license. Given that it's almost certain you didn't take the photo you uploaded, you can't release it under a {{cc-by-sa-4.0}} license. I'm sure you meant the best, but you shouldn't really be claiming someone else's 100% original creative work (intellectual property) as your own; moreover, you should pretty much assume that any 100% original content you find online that you didn't create yourself belongs to someone else and that person is the copyright holder of the work. Please don't pick random copyright licenses just a convenience; if you're not sure, you can ask for help at Wikipedia:Help desk, Wikipedia:Teahouse or even Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. I've already done the latter at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions#File:Gil Hill in Beverly Hills Cop (1984).webp. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:52, 20 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The issues referenced above in #Non-free rationale for File:Gil Hillin Beverly Hills Cop (1984).webp and #Orphaned non-free image File:Gil Hillin Beverly Hills Cop (1984).webp have been resolved. You might, however, want to take a look at Wikipedia:Non-free content and Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria before uploading any other non-free images just to better understand what's expected of you as the uploader. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:48, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Gil Hill In Beverly Hills Cop II (1987).webm requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a copyright violation and has no credible claim of fair use or permission. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use it — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:51, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Once again I'm sure you mean the best, but any kind of screenshot or video clip from a movie, TV show, music video, home video, software, online game, etc. can only be uploaded to Wikipedia or Wikimedia is, in principle, almost certainly going to be under copyright protection and only the copyright holder of the original source work can release it either under a Creative Commons or other type of free license that Wikipedia or Wikimedia Commons accepts. Even if you buy a copy of the original work and use that to make a screenshot or video clip, the copyright on the original work still applies unless the creator of the work also transfered copyright ownership to you as part of the purchase. It's OK to make mistakes, but too many of these mistakes could lead to a Wikipedia administrator stepping in and deciding to sanction your account in some way. As I posted above, it's better to ask for assistance first when you're not sure because these kinds of mistakes are easy to make when you're not familiar with even the basics of image/media copyright. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:19, 21 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]
