Is there a way to send in pictures to Wikipedia? Like, if you found a picture of a dog--let's say, a Mountain Cur--how could you send it here so that you can post it on the Mountain Cur information page?

Spelling

[edit]

Hi Australian spellings are different from other english speaking locations and if we spell it colour please do not change it to your local usage

have a look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_%28spelling%29#English_spelling_comparison_chart and the rest of the manual of style before implementing such a change again - thanks SatuSuro 01:46, 9 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Native American Indian Dog

[edit]

Hello, thanks for creating the page Native American Indian Dog. Just so you know, similar articles have been deleted in the past (see this page) because no reliable sources could be provided. The only known available sources of information about the breed are from the breeders or on pages with information provided by breeders, such as the dogbreedinfo.com page you included as a link. Where did you find the information currently in the article? I appreciate your efforts to improve Wikipedia on dog breeds, but unless reliable secondary sources of information can be provided, it may be determined that the article does not meet Wikipedia criteria. ~PescoSo saywe all 21:49, 29 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Agkistrodon contortrix

[edit]

Hi Magicbone, It's unfortunate that you don't seem to agree with the way these snake articles have been named. It's really a question of organization, and doing so is not as easy as it may look. One of the first problems is that most snakes do not have well-established common names: they usually have more than a few. For example, the article for the species that you tried to rename, A. contortrix, has 17 common names (and that's just for the nominate subspecies), the most common of which -- copperhead -- is also used for three other species (see Copperhead). In the past, this has often resulted in edit wars when no one could not agree on which common name to use for the article title.
Second, using common name article titles makes it much harder to ensure that a single, consistent taxonomy is used. This is important to avoid article duplication and/or the use of outdated scientific names. For example, if only redirects are used for scientific names and one or more of these are changed (hijacked) to point to articles with different common name titles, in most cases I doubt that many people would notice. That's because editors almost never add redirects to their watch lists -- only articles.
Both of these problems are resolved when scientific names are used for article titles. They may look weird and unfamiliar to most people, but they are the only names that are unique. What's more, they provide a system for organizing natural history articles that common names do not. If eventually we are to describe all species, that is something that we cannot afford to do without. --Jwinius (talk) 12:30, 2 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Seppala Siberian Sleddog

[edit]

Hello, I have noticed that you have moved Seppala Siberian Sleddog to Seppala Husky twice now. I have had to restore it because the verifiable sources in the reference section of article refer to the breed as the Seppala Siberian Sleddog. Also, you did not provide a reason for your page move.
