Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, MagicalTux. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the article Mark Karpelès, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. Editing for the purpose of advertising or promotion is not permitted. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your COI when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID). This is obvious, of course, but maybe not to every editor who happens upon this at random. I suggest you stay away from your own article. Drmies (talk) 00:32, 11 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, I was not aware of the whole process for BLP with WP, nor of available recourse in case of issues (because I edited from the history page, I didn't benefit from the edit intro). I do guess the edit was in line with Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Help#Editing_the_article_yourself which mentions "Simple corrections like this include: [...] removing unsourced or poorly sourced contentious material" but I should have added a comment on the talk page. Because of COI I've avoided editing this article as much as possible and will avoid in the future, however as mentioned by the editing user : "A month and a half has passed and nobody reverted that edit. Quit editing your own article, Mark." (User:Tibanne, comment on revision 825018366 - by the way I note that this Wikipedia user contributions are limited to Mark Karpelès and his user name "Tibanne" being Mt. Gox's parent company name, I feel like this user might be somehow involved too). As said by editing user, nobody had fixed the article for a period of time but I do not believe it means unedited content was right just because it remained on wikipedia for some time, which prompted me to perform the edit in question. I'm sorry for the trouble caused. MagicalTux (talk) 01:49, 11 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
User Tibanne is continuing to add content I believe falling under "unsourced or poorly sourced contentious material" to page Mark Karpelès despite said content being removed by myself and other user. While I understand editing this page myself is deemed acceptable for the purpose of removing unsourced contentious material according to documentation on editing the article myself it doesn't sound like a long term solution. None of this user's edits are constructive and the username itself is suspiciously matching Mt. Gox's parent company name, so I believe bringing this to admin attention might make sense. He will be banned ASAP Doggyeditor2018 (talk) 18:49, 25 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Doggyeditor2018 is not an administrator, and I don't think the time for blocks is here. In fact, it seems nobody has so much as left a comment on Tibanne's talk page explaining the problem; I have done so now. Reliable sources confirming Karpelès' in absentia conviction exist and are already mentioned in the body of the article, so this is an issue of weight and placement, not of smears and false accusations.
