Self-block request[edit]

Hi Luna, thank you in advance.

As per my request in the closed IRC channel #wikimedia-admin, I hereby request a 24 hour block to cool down from the WP:VPP#Summary of F.A.C section above uproar.

--Connel MacKenzie - wikt 03:55, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

i just signed up for wikipedia today because i wanted to edit an article about the crime in el salvador which contained incorrect and out-dated information. i then recieved something saying i cannot edit it and now i'm blocked from editing anything. block me all you want but you need to be more careful on the things that are being put into these articles, make sure they are actual facts and not a bunch of false statements being written by 12 year olds and racists. I will not have my country insulted on wikipedia!!!

jj0909jj[edit]

You recently reverted this edit by User:Jj0909jj. This user has been doing practically nothing on Wikipedia except for making edits like that ([2], [3], [4], [5]) and adding lots of really bizzare stuff ([6]). Tens of edits by them have been reverted. Paul Cyr has already provided a final warning on their talk page; it might be time for a block... -/- Warren 06:28, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

After further review I decided to send it off to AIV, and now they're blocked. Onwards. :) -/- Warren 06:46, 2 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for your unblock help[edit]

You left notes on my talk page indicating that you helped negotiate a partial unblock of my IP address. Thanks!

There are still two things I am confused about, and I would be grateful if you can help clear things up for me:

  1. how can I see a query that shows that I am blocked? I tried a lot of different ways, but never saw my IP address. Neither this autoblock query [7] nor Special:Ipblocklist seemed to include me.
  2. how can I find out why I was blocked? I saw the text "CheckUser evidence has determined that this IP address is being used abusively" but I can't imagine that anyone at this IP would have done anything like that. As the responsible party behind that IP, I'd like to know if I'm wrong!

Thanks greatly,

Population genetics of the british isles[edit]

Theres nothing wrong with this article, please if you can find some sources that oppose common veiws add them to the article, if you cant then stop whinging.

I cant understand why you would want to delete this article. please, you seem to be a celtic enthusiast so if you can find reliable sources supporting your celtic enthusiasm please add them , else dont add them. this article is about the genetics of the british isles anyway, you linguistic source is of total irrelevance and nless you can cite a reliable source tieing together genetic evidence with celtic invasion claims then there is no reason to add any of your celtic claims to the article as they would be purely your own opinion.

You can add as many genetic sources as you want, but you can only add historical/linguistic sources if they are tied into a source that includes genetic information. )

You cannot delete all the genetic data about irish people just becuase you think that some subclade of r1b found in la tene region is similar to a subclade found in ireland. That should be startlingly obvious to someone as intelligent as you, hence I therefore deem you as biased and with a certain political agenda.

Dear Luna, who is this 80.47.239.175? He (or she) messed around with one of my newly created pages 'House of Bread Monastery'. Problem brewing at St. Petersburg paradox[edit]

We seem to have a problem brewing at the article on the St. Petersburg paradox. See the article and especially see Talk:St. Petersburg paradox#“one cannot buy that which is not sold”. iNic, having been frustrated in his attempt to interpret a point and then to dismiss the point, has now deleted content which has been justified on the talk page, insisting that, to be acceptable, it must simultaneously

I have repeatedly noted to him that it is not acceptable to render an article wrong in order to make it more accessible, and have now placed a warning on his user talk page. —SlamDiego 22:25, 8 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Third Opinion[edit]

Hi Luna. I appreciate your Third Op on Brassai but I think you may have mistinerpreted some facts. I gather this only because you concluded that saying Brassai is Hungarian is less reliable than saying he's Jewish. Everyone single on of Brassai's English biographies say pretty directly that Brassai is Hungarian, born and bred, and further, nearly every link that can be found online says the same. Out of those biographies, all mention his mother as Armenian and his father as Hungarian. No published books in English state he or his parents were Jewish. In fact, Halász Gyula: A századik év küszöbén. Bukarest, 1967, Brassai's autobiography in Hungarian, written after the war, says that Brassai and Brassai' parents were not Jewish. This is backed up by his memoirs, Letters to my Parents (written in the 1920s, translated into English) in which you can find letters to his father talking extensively about not being able to come home for Christmas, and spending Christmas at someone else's home. Though it would be original research to derive from those statements that Brassai was himself Christian, his statements about Jews, such as "we found a room for 50 Czech crowns at an old Jewish lady's house (I wish we hadn't!)" makes it clear that he's writing to his parents about Jewish people in a way as to suggest them a separate people. This wouldn't make sense if Brassai or either one of his parents were Jewish. The only places that I could find anywhere online that make the statement that Brassai is Jewish is here http://www.newstatesman.com/200602270034 and http://yiddishbookcenter.org/pdf/pt/41/pt41_JewishEye.pdf..

Neither of these authors are experts on Brassai and certainly not more than Brassai is an expert on himself, and so per WP:RS "Expertise of the originator about the subject—An academic expert in one subject is more reliable when writing about that subject than when writing about another. For example, a biologist is more reliable when writing about biology than when writing about nuclear physics" this would lessen the reliability of their reports. Though my emailing of the first author is bordering on original research it goes on to prove that there appears to be no documentations of Brassai's Jewish heritage and that the source is based on hearsay. There is strong reason to conclude WP:RS#bias "Bias of the originator about the subject—If an author has some reason to be biased, or admits to being biased, this should be taken into account when reporting his or her opinion." After all, both men are reporting on emigrant Hungarian Jewish photographers, and so including Brassai, an emigrant Hungarian photographer, in the bunch would help strengthen the point. To conclude that Brassai was trying to hide his Jewish ancestry (in the 1920s and 1960s, at that) would be bordering on original research and questioning the validity of reporting something the person themselves' would wish to remain unreported.

There is no way to dismiss the later sources but to equivalently dismiss Brassai's own autobiography as being false about his ethnic background is even more ridiculous, and thats whats currently happening on Brassai and List of Hungarian Jews. 141.213.210.88 23:37, 9 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

hi there,

I have never edited a page on here in my life and only go on wikipedia to browse stuff but when I clicked on a red link once it said something about my ip address being blocked because of abuse or whatever. So I clicked on the page that tells you all the rules that were violated and it had a whole bunch of stuff saying that I made innapropriate edits to a whole bunch of pages. This doesn't make sense because 1) i have never edited anything on here; 2) there were a whole bunch of edits made one after another on pages that I have never even browsed. Any insight on why this is? I would never do the things it says that I have done on here

Hanyang University has dishonest things in its entry.[edit]

Much of what is on this site is unverifiable, and some if it is simply not true. For example, the entry below claims that Hanyang University ranks 210th in the world. Such is not only unverifiable: it is also a lie (see http://ed.sjtu.edu.cn/rank/2006/ARWU2005_102-200.htm). The following entry is advertizing produced by Hanyang University. This is not what Wikipedia was made for, is it? So, consider carefully whether or not you trust this source of information about this university.

I posted the above material with the entry, yet you deleted it. The entry itself, however, which is full of outrageous comments clearly and verifiably dishonest, remains. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 220.72.88.166 (talk) 04:12, 15 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Thanks for the help! I'll be back online tomorrow, and I'll try to sort things out then (and thank all the others who helped revert). yandman 11:11, 17 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Planemo (blocked as a sockpuppet)[edit]

Hi, Luna Santin!

I'm writing because I see you put an indefinite block on Planemo about six weeks ago.

Today I left a welcome message for a new user who calls himself Necrosapiant. This person apparently just signed up a couple of days ago, but seems quite knowledgeable of WP procedures (he deleted a "prod" tag I had placed here). I took a look at Necrosapiant's contributions, and noticed that the only other thing this "new" user has done so far is reinstate a comment by Planemo that had been deleted about the same time as you imposed the indefinite block.

I don't know if it's the same person, or not, but figured you might appreciate a heads up. Thanks! DavidCBryant 00:20, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

T[edit]

Regarding what you wrote on my talk page, I just feel that Macaw 54 might keep coming back under different user names. Any way to prevent this?? Georgia guy 01:41, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, regarding the edit Internet 444 made, I'm quite sure he's a sockpuppet of Macaw 54, and please label him as such. Georgia guy 01:45, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Hey Luna...this is apparently a fake album assembled by illegal download sites. I was just about to speedy it, but I'm not sure what category to use. What do you think? -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 22:02, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm, looks like someone went ahead and deleted it. Are there any logs that tell you what rationale the deleting admin used? -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 22:15, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

For looking into my request for usurpation. I really hope that I can acquire the username Ali, after all, it is my real name! You have continually been quite helpful to me and other users on Wikipedia (for me, particularly with the partial unblock of 206.213.157.4, which allows me to edit Wikipedia at school), and I really appreciate it. Again, thank you! --Nevhood 23:08, 18 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, why do you continue to unprotect David A. Yeagley when you know the anon vandal is persistent about this? In fact, it seems to be his life's work to vandalize this article. Continuing to unprotect is not a good solution, in my opinion. Badagnani 00:26, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much. As the disruption is being done by a single individual (though using multiple, related IPs), I think protecting only for new/anon users would be appropriate, to allow for legitimate editing. Badagnani 00:30, 19 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Just a small note, and a kittenstar![edit]

For making my day a little brighter, and being lightning quick with your reversions, I present you with this kitten of kindness. Kyra~(talk) 09:09, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reverting my talk page; I am not sure what I did to bring the wrath of that editor upon myself, but I bear no ill will towards the person, even if they do not feel the same towards myself. Excellent job at being so quick; by the time I got the new messages bar it was already fixed, which I was most certainly not expecting. I hereby present you with this kittenstar as a token of gratitude for making my day brighter. I hope you have a most wonderful day, and happy editing! Sock attack[edit]

Thanks for the help and protection on my user page. I'm busy outside of WP today, so you can keep the protection on for a day or so. I never thought of Kevin Federline as a flash-point. Cheers! --EarthPerson 18:02, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re:Quick note[edit]

Thank you. I was concerned because his phone number was saved in the page history, but I was not aware of the Oversight feature. Appreciate the help. --Nevhood 20:08, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

10,000 Accounts.[edit]

Did you read the message SeaWorld01/Starwars1955 left on his talk page before the message was removed (it's still in the history) and the page protected? Do you really believe that he has 10,000 accounts? I don't believe it, as I think it's a bluff. As you said, he should just give up: he is wasting everyone's time, including his own. Acalamari 22:14, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, he does have a lot of sleepers. I think 10,000 is a bluff; it would take a lot of time to just to acutally set up all those accounts. Acalamari 23:23, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

can you please review your policy on Megameeting information beling listed[edit]

I have tried on many occasions to add useful information on additional companies that are in the Video Conference space. Companies like Adobe and MegaMeeting.com have video conference technology built on Flash technology. This has not only brought down the cost of the service, increase the amount of Video displayed, but also allowed it to work on multiple platforms like Mac, PC, and Linux. People look to Wikipedia for information that is current and supplied by multiple sources. I am unsure why companies like Microsoft, Radvision, Webex, Gotomeeting can have their information displayed here and not other companies. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Jasonrrichmond (talkcontribs) 01:22, 21 February 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Re:Wolfgang The First[edit]

Just so you know, he's sat right next to me, hence why I'm reverting his edits so fast. He doesn't intend to stop, he's still doing it now. Vimescarrot 09:44, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, he's been blocked anyways. No worries. Vimescarrot 09:45, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
He's made a new account, Wolfgang The Second. Vimescarrot 09:55, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
No problem. I'll keep you updated. He'll (probably) be gone by 10:15 GMT, since that's when this period ends. Yes, we're in school. Vimescarrot 09:59, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Wolfgang The Third is on its way, it seems. Not very original, is he? Vimescarrot 10:00, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AIV[edit]

Hey, I just wanted to remind you that we shouldn't block a user if they haven't vandalize after their t4 warning. I was removing IPs from the list twice, and I saw that you had already blocked the users. Thanks, Nishkid64 20:12, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, can you add block messages to user talk pages? I just noticed you hadn't done so for some IPs. Thanks, Nishkid64 20:18, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Lol, sorry about the template. Nishkid64 20:25, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removing a speedy deletion tag[edit]

How should you go about removing a speedy deletion tag? I tagged an article earlier today - HotUKDeals - but the author seems to have cleaned it up pretty well. SparrowsWing (talk) 00:19, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for your assistance and prompt reply. SparrowsWing (talk) 00:24, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OK, an unblock is okay with me for now. If there's more vandalism, a temporary block. And while I'm leaving a message, do you mind if I use something similar to User:Luna Santin/Templates/Bar for my userpage (as I am remodeling it)? –Llama mantalkcontribs 02:27, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, somehow the libelous version of David A. Yeagley is the one that has become protected. Can you fix this? Thanks, as always, Badagnani 03:21, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry to bother you; I've just gone ahead and reverted to the original version myself, as it's only soft protected. Badagnani 03:23, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Luna Santin,

That userbar looks great, and I really like the improve me idea.
Mind if I borrow it for my userpage?

Case vs. Investigation[edit]

Hi, I am going to abuse your knowledge if you don't mind please :) What is the correct form by you as a native speaker:

30 Cases of Major Zeman
30 Investigations of Major Zeman

Where it means criminal cases which detective Major Zeman must solve. Thank you. ≈Tulkolahten≈≈talk≈ 08:40, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Major Zeman is a policeman who solves 30 criminal (cases or investigations) during each episode. In each episode he gets a file with (case or investigation) and tries to found thief/murderer etc. In Czech it is "Tricet pripadu Majora Zemana" without official english translation. :) ≈Tulkolahten≈≈talk≈ 08:47, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much :) I changed title to "Thirty Major Zeman's Cases" according your recommendations. ≈Tulkolahten≈≈talk≈ 08:59, 22 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Sock problems[edit]

Hi! Thank you for your help; Pink and I both especially appreciate our userpages being protected. WP:SM actually already maintains a watchlist of all of our articles at Special:Recentchangeslinked/Wikipedia:WikiProject Sailor Moon/Watchlist, so that should also be a good resource for watching the problem. Again, thanks, and let me know if there's anything I can do to help. Mostly I really hope he just gets bored and goes away soon. --Masamage 00:36, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

This vandalism edit on Crystallization has a personal email included, is that grounds for reporting to WP:RFO? --Nevhood 03:57, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I just sent an email, and I'll let you know what they tell me. Thanks for the help! --Nevhood 04:07, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
They haven't responded, but the edit was apparently hidden, I just checked the article history and the edit is no longer there. --Nevhood 04:32, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stealth[edit]

Thanks for taking a candid look at that Stealth article. That the subject is a company held by a prominent admin of Wikipedia makes it only more disconcerting. I am sure that the hive mind will be able to re-build the article, using more reputable and varied reference citations, and all will be better. I'm here to try to improve the encyclopedia. If it takes a few trout-slaps along the way, so be it. --72.94.164.52 05:09, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
