Mahalo[edit]

Much Mahalo for your welcome mate. I hope to be a productive contributor. Unfortunately I can't help with WikiProject Geelong as I know nothing about it. JakeW 10:57, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Many Thanks for the wellcome note! Best wishes, Laonikos 23:24, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help with the Asus W3. I'm still new with Wiki and hope to see you again in the future! - vex5

Allo Mate[edit]

Thanks for the welcome, I'm gradually learning the ropes but surprisingly no questions yet but ta very much for the offer. I've done a few minor edits. Think I'll steer clear of all contentious articles life is finite after all. PhilipPage 20:37, 24 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for welcome![edit]

Thanks so much for the welcome! I was working on my first article, Sarah Jayne Vercoe, and was about to add the categories when you did it for me. I should add that the categories you put in were exactly the ones I was about to add, so I must be doing somethin right I guess. Thanks again for the welcome and for your help! -- SilverWings 07:26, 18 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Just wondered if I offended you in some way with my last reply here, or if you simply deleted it to save space. As a new user I am anxious not to offend or cause problems, so would appreciate you just letting me know what happened there? (You can delete this too, if you wish, of course, once I know what the issue was). Many thanks! -- SilverWings 02:35, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I'm very sorry! I had written a comment explaining my interest in the topics I've posted about, and I think now that I must have previewed it but never saved it. Oh well, the moment has passed now, and as you say, no harm done! Thanks for your understanding... and encouragement! My work will be sporadic but I will definitely keep contributing! Happy Christmas to you, too... -- SilverWings 10:00, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

A image you uploaded Image:Johnraymondtravers.jpg has no information on it's source or copyright status. Please find one for it before it gets deleted in seven days. Thanks! --Jaranda wat's sup 03:50, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Malaysia radio stubs[edit]

Hi! In terms of categorising these, I've found this: [[Category:Malaysian media]] which is preferable to Category:Malaysia. I'm in the process of changing the categorization right now. Hope u don't mind ;) Zunaid 11:18, 28 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

hndis[edit]

Just noticed that you used {{hndis}} in John Howard (disambiguation). There isn't any community approval to use these new disambiguation templates, and it's generally discouraged. For example, if John Howard (book) is written then the {{hndis}} becomes incorrect, leading to maintenance issues.--Commander Keane 15:46, 29 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Australia-geo-stub[edit]

Hi Longhair. ive just been moving a lot of the stubs you added australia-geo-stub to. every state now has its own geo-stub: NewSouthWales-geo-stub, Victoria-geo-stub, WesternAustralia-geo-stub... could you use them instead where possible? itd save me some work :) BL kiss the lizard 00:35, 30 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Stub/ex-stub[edit]

Hello Longhair. Just for my interest: when do you consider an article to (still) be a stub? I was wondering seeing you added the 'prison-stub'-category to Yodok concentration camp. Nethency 11:22, 31 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I saw you replied at the spot. ;-) Thanks. Nethency 20:54, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'd suggest reading the article before deleting it, there was nothing even remotely "attacking" the subject. Did you delete it? StephenBengHo 07:47, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What link? Did you delete the page? I'm a bit confused. StephenBengHo 07:49, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What's going on here? I would like an explanation. StephenBengHo 07:52, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

1) It's not up to you to decide her notability or otherwise. She is a public figure, with many Google references whose notability is probably beyond question.

2) Which particularly statement constitutes an attack?

3) I ask that you stop deleting the article or at least institute a peer reviewed process so that there can a be genuine discussion on the issue. I believe you are out-stepping your powers here.

StephenBengHo 07:59, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't remove the parody link, there are many such links on political figures so I don't see why it should not be on here. If there's a rule against them could you point it out to me? StephenBengHo 08:35, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're probably right. StephenBengHo 08:47, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Can you please resolve the issue of parody pages with your fellow Administrator Ambi, who seems to have a different view. Is there a rule about this. StephenBengHo 12:10, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Geelong[edit]

Thanks for the note! I'm still down here at the moment - nearly everyone at ANU comes from outside the ACT and has gone home for the summer, so I'd be a bit lonely if I headed back this early. I haven't taken any photos as of yet, but I'm happy to go in and take any needed this week - is there anything in particular you're looking for?

I really must set aside some wiki-time to fix up Geelong and related articles. I'm so used to the depth of coverage we have of Canberra and Melbourne, and it always surprises me when I see how bad the Geelong coverage is. You've done a really good job with your cleanup of that article, and I like the new infobox, even if it doesn't have quite as many fields as I'd like. Ambi 12:32, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hopefully we'll get some good weather this week. Looking at Canberra and some of the other featured articles gave me some ideas for photos, so I might just have to go in soon. Thanks for the reminder, too - I'd completely forgotten about taking photos until you messaged me arlier. :) Ambi 14:07, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Shark Island Challenge[edit]

You´ve deleted the stub tag from Shark Island Challenge article. It´s still a work in progress. I haven´t the time to complete the information from 2003 to 2005, so I was planning to left the stub tag in there, let´s someone else finish the job for me before I had the time. Now I do not know if it is best to put the tag there again. What do you think? Loudenvier 16:05, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Back Door Sluts 9[edit]

  1. It is not vandalism. It is a valid navigation aid to the South Park episode in question.
  2. I will remove mistaken vandalism warnings from my talk page if I choose.

"leave a message for me"[edit]

I just clicked leave a message for you on your talk page but it did not work, it just took me to edit that page is that correct?

I just made my own page, it is at [User:WikiDavid] hopefully that works I am new at the wiki thing but I am really starting to enjoy it.

Can I help?[edit]

Hi. I've been keeping an eye on your (and others') efforts with the Australian vandal. Is there anything I can do to help? I'm not an admin, but I have about half an hour or so before I should log off. -- Adz 12:28, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mediation[edit]

Hi, User:WikiDavid has requested mediation with the mediation cabal. You can make your response on that page. - FrancisTyers 13:27, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey again, could you come to the BBA talk page and make your reply, I think we're almost there! :) - FrancisTyers 03:33, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, thanks again for your continued input, I'm considering taking a straw poll of the options, even though I normally don't like them (prefer to work on consensus). Barry seems to want the 1 link, Dave wants either 2 links or a directory and you want either 1 link or 2 links if Dave removes the ads from his site. I'd like to mention that asking Dave to remove the ads from his site is really outside the realm of the Wikipedia article ;), might have been better asking him in an email or on his talk page. Personally I don't have a stake in this either way, although I'd probably be err'ing on the side of the directory, but if you could give some more reasons why, or why not a directory or single site should be used, that would be great. Sorry if it sounds like I'm rambling, its 4pm here and I just woke up :) - FrancisTyers 16:13, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A deleting favour[edit]

Hi Longhair, I'm pretty sure you're online at the moment, so I just have a quick favour to ask, although it's not urgent. User:Madcowpoo is pretty new, and created/uploaded some things in a bit of a flurry, and has now realised they're not entirely appropriate. See his request on the HD here, all of the console images he's uploaded should be deleted (they're all the ones with the short names). He also made Wikipedia:Wikiproject Consoles which can safely be deleted. (also Template:Console.) and also Wikipedia:Wikiproject Consoles ps1, Wikipedia:Wikiproject Consoles ps2. sigh.

If you insist that these need tagging and/or VfDing, I may cry. I would appreciate your help.

cheers, pfctdayelise 14:25, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thankyou very much. Yeah, they're copyvios. He marked them CopyrightedAndFreeUse when of course there is no reason to suspect that. He is quite young. He is quite keen... as evidenced by multiple questions to the Help Desk. So I am proceeding on WP:AGF but also trying to find a volunteer to rein him in. AFAIK only this account. Thanks again, pfctdayelise 14:34, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I just see now Wikipedia talk:Wikiproject hi and Wikipedia:WikiProject bbs. Argh. Maybe a 30min ban is in order soon. I'm going to bed. You're a stellar admin! pfctdayelise 14:40, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, it is excessive, but I feel invisible to this user. Time for bed, then. User:MegamanZero is going to shadow him for a while, if all goes according to plan. pfctdayelise 14:58, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I've posted a friendly comment on his talkpage, and he seems to have stopped for the momment. Regarding the shadowing, I've made it a long term goal, and I'll keep up on assisting him periodically. Regarding his most recent edits (here, here, and here), these need deletion, and I'll continue to update you on the situations as we progress. -MegamanZero|Talk 22:25, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Crocodile Dundee[edit]

Is there a way we can block the IP(s) he is comming from?

Hi Longhair, thanks for your kind comments re: the Crocodile Dundee vandal attacks last night. Yeah, I was watching the new user log and it was getting so out of hand I thought I'd pitch in and do what I could by spotting and marking up some of the overtly "Aussie" login names. To the person who asked the question above, I believe Longhair put in a request for a admin with CheckUser powers at WP:AN/I which AFAIK means IP blocking but I don't know the outcome. The attacks died down at about 12.30am, whether the user was blocked or just got tired and went to bed I'm not sure. Anyway, great work everyone who worked on minimising the damage caused by that immature vandal. --Canley 03:14, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Geez, 4am! Was that in addition to "Willy on Wheels on ... insert name of random internet radio stream" or were the two reasonably mutually exclusive (and hence possibly the same person)? It beggars belief that people would waste so much time on such an immature exercise, but there you go. Thankfully it seems the good 'uns outweight the villains on Wikipedia, and I guess that's how the whole crazy system actually works! Cheers, --Canley 03:37, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Is anyone with an autoblocker going to stop this moron as was done with WoW/MilkMan? Much of the vandalism could be avoided if Australian related usernames were preemptively blocked. Hexagonal 12:40, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tame Name[edit]

Hi thanx no, not the same but I did buy a copy and have it prominently displayed on one of my bookcases to give the incorrect impression that I did. We're distantly related I think, maybe I should do an article on him. He has a much more interesting life than me. I work for a financial institution. yawn. Adriantame 14:41, 4 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I hope you don't mind, but I have changed your {{test2}} addition on this page to a {{test1}} because the user in question had no previous infractions and the vandalism he placed on the page Eminent domain might have been just a test. You might want to re-read Wikipedia's policy on not biting the newcomers to better understand the spirit of the policy (always giving newbies a chance to not be considered vandals right away...unless it's like George Bush's page replaced with thousands of phalluses or something that's obviously vandalism). Thanks, JHMM13 (T | C) 23:56, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I don't mind the edit to the test template one bit at all. I guess I work on a case by case basis with vandalism. Simpe 'hi' edits are usually tests, but when edits occur like 'ur mom smells like pancakes and booty', it smells a little more like a pest than a simple test edit. Each to their own of course. I'm aware of not biting newbies, and will keep it in mind in future. Adding a test rather than a test2 keeps it going on just that little bit longer at times. -- Longhair 23:59, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Copied from my talk page.
Thanks for responding. I was just making sure because I've seen a lot of admins going around recently dropping test3s on first-time vandals, and it really violates the newbie biting policy. Thanks again, JHMM13 (T | C) 03:14, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks muchly. I appreciate any help I can get with this. I just spent most of yesterday trying to create semi-useful stubs for all the redlinks in the article, and got about halfway through. I'm just getting a bit frustrated with these objections that don't make any sense. Ambi 01:27, 7 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

We probably need articles on those, but I've got too much on my plate to do it now. I've got in mind to write a proper (potentially even featured) article at netball positions, with redirects from the individual names (as cricket and soccer tend to do) once I get back to Canberra and can get some proper sources, but I'm afraid that's a project for next month. Can you block a user (IP)?[edit]

I noticed that someone using the IP 168.190.200.38 is vandalising a lot of articles, have a look at his 'contributions' here. This seems to have been going on since January 2005, with the latest vandalism occurring today. subst[edit]

When using template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.

Reversion on UCSF Page[edit]

I noticed that you immediately reverted a change I made a few minutes ago on the page for UCSF. I'm certainly not very experienced with Wikipedia, but I don't understand why what I did was wrong. A person's name was linked to a different person of the same name. The real person does not have a Wikipedia entry, so I deleted the link. I thought that no link would be preferable to an incorrect link, at least until someone was able to take the time to generate a page for the correct person. Could you let me know where I went wrong? Thanks. WildCowboy 09:03, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the response. I'm going to go ahead and remove the link again so that it doesn't point to the wrong person. The David Kessler referenced on the page is likely important enough for his own entry, but it does not exist at this time and I don't feel knowledgeable enough about him to write one. If and when someone does write an entry for him, there will, as you say, need to be a disambiguation page to distinguish between the scientist and the actor. WildCowboy 09:21, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Cool...I'll go through and disambiguate the "what links here" links on the David Kessler disambiguation page. Thanks so much for your help. WildCowboy 09:32, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Help with radio stations[edit]

I recently edited a local radio station KFTK from a stub. I looked at radio stations in the area and added the {{St. Louis FM}} template:

that was on the KMOX page. When KMOX used it on their page, their call letters and frequency were blacked and weren't links anymore. Is there any way to do that for KFTK's page.

Image copyright problem with Image:Christopher_Skaseportrait.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Christopher_Skaseportrait.jpg. However, the image may soon be deleted unless we can determine the copyright holder and copyright status. The Wikimedia Foundation is very careful about the images included in Wikipedia because of copyright law (see Wikipedia's Copyright policy).

The copyright holder is usually the creator, the creator's employer, or the last person who was transferred ownership rights. Copyright information on images on Wikipedia is signified using copyright templates. The three basic license types on Wikipedia are open content, public domain, and fair use. Find the appropriate template in Wikipedia:Image copyright tags and place it on the image page like this: {{TemplateName}}.

Please signify the copyright information on any other images you have uploaded or will upload. Remember that images without this important information can be deleted by an administrator. You can get help on image copyright tagging from Wikipedia talk:Image copyright tags. --OrphanBot 02:33, 22 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Warning sign
This image may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:Wadefrankum.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the image qualifies as fair use, please read fair use, and then use a tag such as {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. New Message[edit]

Hello, Longhair. I'm pretty lost - I just noticed there was no page for S. Brian Willson and I realized that I could actually make one myself! Then I looked over at Ron Kovic's page and it wasn't in very good shape. I did receive permission to use the photos from Frank Dorrel at AddictedtoWar.com but I didn't put the note on the upload, so I wonder if my photos will be removed?

Anyway, it's nice to be here. Thanks. I hope I did this right. Jeanmariesimpson 08:48, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome message[edit]

Thank you for the message. I have a question: when one is writing in the edit summary box, how is it that "-->Section of article" appears beside the edits that were made to the article? I am perplexed by this and could not uncover how to do this during the time I edited under an IP address. An answer would be most appreciated, thank you. Image tags[edit]

When you are using the no source or no license tags on images, please include all the parameters like {{no license|month=January|day=28|year=2006}}. Otherwise, the images are just thrown into a category for unknown date 2006 instead of by exact date. Also, you should put a note on the uploader's talk pages or they won't know what's going on. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 19:24, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I posted to the users talk page giving some details about why he was receiving the warnings. Please remember to use {{spam1}}, {{spam2}} & {{spam3}} rather than the test templates for spamming. --GraemeL (talk) 19:54, 28 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why the stub template[edit]

What is your reasoning behind adding a stub template to International Union of Police Associations? User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 02:50, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

== I don't understand your welcome message, as I've had one long before now and what's with "A wag of the finger and a nod of the head, your on notice." Btw, it's you're not your. You're an editor???? ~~maluka

Deglet Noor[edit]

Hi! I tossed an agriculture stub template on this as well. I'm open for suggestions.  :) I'll also try and find more history since they grow these things by the truckload out here where I live. - Lucky 6.9 06:03, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Technical Diving International[edit]

The article that you deleted on Technical Diving International was not linkspam. It was a minimal stub that was to get expanded on over time. I have no involvement with TDI except holding one of their diving qualifications, and have no interest in directing traffic to their website. The link to their webpage was provided as it is a usefull resource for anyone seeking information on this organisation. There are other articles in wikipedia that link to this article and others that link to TDI (disambiguation) that should link to it. The message you left on my talk page was obviously boilerplate and almost completely inapropriate for the situation of this article. Obviously, the article was a very short stub, but your assertion that Technical Diving International is not sufficiently notable to warrant an article is simply wrong. Suggesting that this content go on my user page is also I believe completely innapropriate. Also the assertion in your edit log that the article contained no content is also wrong. I stated very briefly what TDI is, with appropriate links to other articles in wikipedia, and gave a resource for more information.

I can can see from your edit log that most of the articles you deleted contained no usefull or relevent content whatsoever. It's ironic though, that the message you left on my talk page was similarly devoid of usefull content. If you felt that the article was too short to be usefull, then it would have been much more productive to say so, and I would probably have been encouraged to expand it. I believe actions such as this (delete article, with innapropriate message to talk page) will discourage many people from contributing quality articles (which often start out as small stubs) to wikipedia. -- User:Phirst

Thanks for redirect help[edit]

Thanks for your help with redirect, it is much appreciated as I am still finding my way around Wikipedia.--Barizol 09:33, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

annoyed user[edit]

Hi - I don't know if you've seen Wikipedia:General_complaints#Heavy Handed Administrators???, but I think you might want to talk to User:Aine63 about a change you reverted. This user is relatively new and I suspect would appreciate a friendly helping hand. -- Rick Block (talk) 16:26, 29 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Baffled[edit]

Did you leave this on my user page? "A wag of the finger and a nod of the head, your on notice." I don't get the implied threat. I've since deleted it. Maluka 06:47, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

give up you hero[edit]

leave people's input alone - who the hell do you think you are[edit]

Sorry for the delay in saying thank you![edit]

Día duit a Longhair, I have to humbly apologise! You welcomed me a couple of weeks ago to Wikipedia and for a plethora of different reasons I totally forgot to thank you for that! So cheers very much for the nice welcome, it is belatedly but still greatly appreciated. Have a good one! Slán! Brianlacey 15:07, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Categories in Wikipedia[edit]

Hi, Longhair. I just added categories to the article on Risteárd de Tiúit but a few of my chosen categories do not seem to exist as categories yet. Is it OK to put his entry under those categories anyway? If not, how do I find out the names of categories with similar names? Thanks El Gringo 23:36, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trilogy![edit]

Oh, damn! That last segment with the Zuni doll gave me nightmares for a month the first time I saw it! Count me in to help expand this! - Lucky 6.9 01:26, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You sure got that right. Greatest TV movie in history right alongside "Duel." That last scene when Karen Black showed her new set of choppers about turned my hair white. - Lucky 6.9 01:31, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

God, I'd forgotten about that. It's been so long that I think my mind has actually blocked out some of the details. - Lucky 6.9 01:36, 31 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
