Importance of sources[edit]

Thanks for your efforts at Multiple chemical sensitivity. Unfortunately, they had the effect of removing accurate information properly supported by a reliable source, and substituting claims from the pro-MCS advocates without any supporting references or any effort to distinguish between what advocates say is true and what can be verified.

For example, there is no evidence that MCS is triggered by previous exposure to any chemical: it's a (barely) plausible story, but there is no evidence for it, and there is a good deal of evidence that it's a case of the extremely common post hoc ergo propter hoc cognitive error -- the same mistake that women with breast cancer make when they say, "Oh, this tumor must have been caused by this extremely stressful event six months ago," just before the doctor says, "The biopsy shows this has been growing in you for at least ten years, and probably much longer than that."

Please feel free to work on this and other articles, just with good reliable sources to back up your claims. Happy editing, WhatamIdoing (talk) 05:42, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
