Lid Up or Lid Down[edit]

Yes there is a difference. A slight one. Say if a piano is built to focus on dynamics (like the Steinway or Bosendorfer) it would sound muffled. Not mucky, per se, but not clear. (And I am speaking in "Lid-Down terms"). Or if the piano is built to focus on a quieter, sweeter, lighter sound (like the Bluthner) it would become muffled, deeper, and heavier. To the naked ear, a piano is a piano is a piano. But if you can tell a difference, and you find the brand you want--be sure to keep that lid up, if you want the piano to sound like the way the sound is made to produce.
