I noticed that one of the first articles you edited was Lester R. Brown, which appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

In addition, if you receive, or expect to receive, compensation for any contribution you make, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation to comply with our terms of use and our policy on paid editing.

COI editing

Hi,

I got your message about editing Lester R. Brown's page and see that all my changes have been undone! A bit disturbing. I am his assistant and he asked me to make changes to this. What do I need to do to be able to edit this?

I will explain the situation as simply as I can.

Wikipedia is not your employer's property, and Lester R. Brown is no more entitled to instruct you to make changes here than I am entitled to instruct you to rearrange his office.

Wikipedia is an enyclopedia. It covers topics which have already been covered in independent, reliable secondary sources, and it bases those articles on what has been published in independent, reliable secondary sources. It maintains a strict policy of a Neutral point of view (see WP:NPOV).

Wikipedia is not a webhosting service, It is not social media. It is not a means for your employer or anyone else to promote themselves. It is not a place for your employer to write his autobiography. See WP:NOT.

You and Lester R. Brown have a conflict of interest wrt that article. (See WP:COI). Neither of you should edit it. If you do edit, then your changes will be reverted. If you persist, you will eventually be blocked from editing.

However, you may post on the article's talk page to suggest changes which may be considered by other editors who do not have a conflict of interest.

If you want to work with other editors in this way, please:

2. read Wikipedia:Simple conflict of interest edit request, and follow the instructions there.

Please remember at all times that Wikipedia's editors are volunteers who give of their time to create a free, NPOV encyclopedia. The more that you approach this as an exercise in assisting volunteers in that task, the greater the chances people will help. Conversely, the more you take a "my employer instructs" approach, the less likely you will find collaborators. Similarly, the more effort you put into learning wikipedia's policies, the less effort will be involved in collaborating with you.
