April 2017[edit]

Information icon Hello, I'm TenPoundHammer. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Best F(r)iends without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. • TenPoundHammer, this editor actually did make an in-depth explanation for the removal of this content on the Best F(r)iends talk page. While I understand your concern and I'm not sure of my opinion on the matter, this shouldn't be counted as a "first warning" against this editor. --Oakshade (talk) 02:09, 4 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • User:Oakshade Thank you, Oakshade. I fully understand both of your consternations. My intention is to allow the article in question to remain as objective and neutral as possible. My interest, as one of the film's producers, is merely to ensure that the page reflects the film's actuality. The entertainment magazine articles User:TenPoundHammer is attempting to re-submit to the page are not representative of the facts. If either of you would care to, there is an inquiry submission form on the film's official website. I realize that's an unorthodox means of ensuring any sort of truth on this website, but it is available should you be so inclined to confirm my assertions for your own personal peace of mind. Kind regards to you both. -- Krisbmacgregor (talk) 02:18, 4 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Managing a conflict of interest[edit]

Information icon Hello, Krisbmacgregor. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Best F(r)iends, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 22:43, 11 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • I realize it must be frustrating to see media reports posted to a Wikipedia article when you apparently have first-hand knowledge that disproves them. However, Wikipedia is built on what reliable sources say, not our own personal experiences. This doesn't necessarily mean that we have to parrot incorrect information from the media. However, it would be best if you discussed such issues on the article's talk page and gained consensus for your desired changes. If you are indeed a producer on the film, you are in a unique position – you can issue press releases, update the film's official website, and have the press issue corrections for misstatements. Wikipedia itself isn't really the place where you can set the record straight. Wikipedia can report that the record has been corrected, but it doesn't expose the truth. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 22:48, 11 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, NinjaRobotPirate. I very much appreciate the input, as does the Best F(r)iends team. This debate was hashed out several months back on the film's Talk page as well as in the discussion that took place briefly regarding whether the film had substantive enough notoriety to have its own Wiki page. The changes I have made in the ensuing months have been unbiased, entirely reductionist rather than additive. Our official website (which you alluded to), Facebook page, Instagram, and Twitter all corroborate the changes I have input. If we were to rely purely on the page's current sources, as you have suggested, then the page would still stipulate Gary Fong as the director, a role he never held. He was the director of a concept trailer, a project unaffiliated with the film itself. Justin MacGregor has been the director of Best F(r)iends since day one of production on December 9th, 2016. If you look to the bottom of the official website's homepage, you will see a short statement confirming the details which I have adjusted. Please accept my gratefulness for your good intentions. I know your comments are coming from a benevolent place. I will heed your suggestion to develop further amendments on the film's Talk page. Very kind regards. Krisbmacgregor (talk) 23:12, 11 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. I want to make clear that we do appreciate the efforts of professionals to contribute to Wikipedia. We do ask that you keep our guidelines in mind while editing, though, especially those on managing a COI. It's not always easy to realize when you've crossed a subtle line, and that's why we ask editors to tread carefully in these situations. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 00:30, 12 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
