May 2009 bring Joy and hapiness to you and your family. You said that "If you do not help other people, no one will come to help you", I ask you did I contribute to the MC article and did'nt I review List of Governors of Bombay, is that not helping. And being a Catholic is your duty to help another Catholic Thanks.SanfyTalk

Hi, I think it's time to nominate this article for GA status. Most or all of the objections that were raised on the review page have been addressed, and the article now looks compact and well-organised. What say? Regards, SBC-YPR (talk) 13:31, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Hi. Happy new year to you. If you have time, could you do a peer review of this article. There is a discussion on the same PR about what would be the correct name for the article. Please air your views on this issue also. Users Ruhrfish and Redtigerxyz have made constructive comments and I am looking forward to yours too. regards, Dineshkannambadi (talk) 18:18, 2 January 2009 (UTC)

Bombay

I know. Been just too busy to do stuff. I bought the "Origins of Bombay" and have been going through it. Its interesting, although the tone Cunha has written it in is rather bland. I will be in and out of WP this month so don't want to make too much of a commitment. I will be catching up on real life so am likely to be on a permanent Wikibreak from February indefinitely. =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:27, 4 January 2009 (UTC)

Governors of Bombay

I can't speak for anyone else, but I know there are numerous other templates like this that exist even when there are similar categories. NawlinWiki (talk) 15:25, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

The FLC is your work, so you need to get credit for it. :) It's unlikely to fail. =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:48, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
Under the GFDL licence, the work is copyrighted to you. You've done all the hard work. As far as the Governor of Maharashtra vs Bombay is concerned, Bombay State referred to a different geographical area as compared to Maharashtra. That's a big distinction in jurisdiction. Otherwise nothing was changed. =Nichalp «Talk»= 07:35, 10 January 2009 (UTC)

Commander-in-Chief of Bombay

For the record, the proper plural of "commander-in-chief" is "commanders-in-chief", not "commander-in-chiefs". You may want to consider moving the category. Rklear (talk) 16:27, 8 January 2009 (UTC)

New topic

Hello User:Kensplanet, I needed your advice on something. Currently, I am trying to develop articles like Bollywood films of 2007, Bollywood films of 2008, etc. As you can see, in the former article, there is a section indicating the "Top 10 highest-grossing films of the year". On majority of the Indian articles, people use BOI as their source. Before, for every year, BOI use to organize its chart, with the site having the "highest-grossing" film at the top of its list, and then going down in descending order, such as like this However, more recently, for its films from 2006-present, they have gone on to rank the films in the chart by "distributor share" and not the "highest-grossing" anymore, such as like this For the articles from Bollywood films of 2006 onwards, I was wondering if I should organize the films based on the "highest-grossing" or the "distributor share". For the charts, I do not plan to include the distributor share. I only plan to add how much the film has grossed. If you could give me your advice as to which would be more appropriate, I would greatly appreciate it. Regards -- Bollywood Dreamz talk 17:20, 9 January 2009 (UTC)

Over Smart Peoples of Wikipedia

Hi!! You know why we are not able to expand Mum police and MumFB is due to lack of refrences. With out knowing this fact few people on wikipedia (They are not Indian) says that Articles on Vijay Salaskar, Ashok Kamte, Hemant Karkare are useless articles and should be deleted and says ""the relevant page is WP:NOTMEMORIAL: Wikipedia isn't a memorial site for deceased people. All articles on people who are notable only because they were killed in the Mumbai attacks belong merged into Casualties of the 2008 Mumbai attacks""(This article is not written as a Memorial nor as Homage) read thisSAVE THIS THREE ARTICLES FROM DELETION--Suyogtalk to me! 10:01, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

The names and surnames are not from English origin but Portuguese. De Sousa, Pinto, Mendonça, etc are 100% Portuguese surnames, as well as the name Pedru/pt:Pedro and others (as you can see it has nothing to do with Peter). I am not saying that Portugal has any kind of influence in the region today, don't worry. I know that local people don't know and don´t care about that historical facts but an encyclopedia should.Miguel in Portugal (talk) 11:10, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Both Mangalorean Catholic names and many Portuguese names are derived from Hebrew, Greek, and Latin names. Portuguese people/culture is based on that older peoples/cultures (Ancient Greece, Roman Empire, Jewish diaspora, etc). These names used by the Mangalorean Catholics employ the Portuguese variant instead of the English variant. I cite again as example the name Pedru/Pedro (Portuguese)/Peter (English). Miguel in Portugal (talk) 11:41, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
All the articles about Portugal/Portuguese people/Portuguese culture, etc, expressly refer the Greek/Roman/Visigoth/Moorish/Jewish historical contribution for the final/modern Portuguese society. As you know, history explains etymology, tradition, and other particular features of a society. I can't agree with an exception in the Mangalorean Catholics article. Miguel in Portugal (talk) 11:49, 13 January 2009 (UTC)
Like all Wikipedia articles about any people or country, which expressly refer the historical contribution of other peoples/cultures for the end result (the modern country, the modern society and its culture), the article about Mangalorean Catholics should also obey the same principle. Mangalorean Catholics took those names, surnames, and catholic religion due to the Portuguese influence. This is not a denial of the British and native influences on them, but must be said. PS - Sorry, I can't write in better English. Miguel in Portugal (talk) 12:20, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

I have resolved all of your comments. -- SRE.K.Annoyomous.L.24 review me 01:26, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

List of Governors of Bombay

Hi there! First off, I apologize for the delay in my look-over of your list - I've been unexpectedly busy the past few days. I should have it finished tonight, but I had one thing I wanted to clear up. Are Madras Presidency, Bombay Presidency and Bengal Presidency proper names? If not, they should be referred to as "the X Presidency". I'll have the rest for you a little bit later! --Hemlock Martinis (talk) 23:06, 15 January 2009 (UTC)

Hello Kensplanet. I hope you are doing well. I am reverting your removal at the Freida Pinto article. This is because Freida Pinto is a Mangalorean Catholic whose mother tongue is Konkani. I hope this helps. With regards, AnupamTalk 22:53, 18 January 2009 (UTC)

O no no no. It happened by fluke. I was just trying a combination and the statement showed up. It's never easy to extract information from Snippets. The reason being they do not give the full context. Should be used only when you are 100% sure of the fact. Example was the statistics of Goan Catholics in Bombay. Approximations not allowed. Hi, I would like to point out a flaw in the Mangalorean Catholics#Traditions and festivals section.

  • Ros (anointing) ceremony, conducted one or two days before a wedding, involves the parents' blessing of the bride and groom, who are anointed with coconut oil.

Ros is surely not coconut oil but coconut juice or coconut milk, calling the Ros an oil is inaccuracy, I have read the The Marriage Customs of the Christians in South Canara PDF, which says its coconut oil, but that's surely wrong, it has to be coconut juice.--Sanfytalk 13:15, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
