Copyright problems

Please do not add copyrighted material to Wikipedia without permission from the copyright holder, as you did to Norman Mackenzie (Conductor). For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material; such additions will be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing. Most of the text appears to be copied from here. Besides being taken from a copyrighted website, it is unsuitable for Wikipedia as it is too promotional in tone; we're looking for articles written from a neutral point of view. I have reverted your most recent edits to Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus and Norman Mackenzie (Conductor). Please do NOT restore copyrighted material. If you continue, you are likely to be blocked. If you are the author of this material, or you have permission to release it under the GFDL (which means allowing anybody to copy, redistribute or sell it, not just Wikipedia) then you could take the steps outlined at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials, but to be honest I wouldn't bother - as promotionally toned material it is unsuitable for Wikipedia in any event and you would be better off writing a neutral article from scratch. I note that you have said in your latest edit summaries "this is the copy from the www.atlantasymphony.org/www.asochorus.org websites with minor changes. this text is not copywrited". Please could you provide some evidence of this. The first website includes a clear copyright notice on its front page; the second does not explicitly include a copyright notice, but that is not in itself sufficient - since 1989 United States law recognises all work as being copyrighted regardless of whether it explicitly claimed with a copyright notice - rather a specific notice disclaiming copyright is required (see Copyright#Copyright notices in the U.S.). I could not find such a note on asochorus website. If you're affiliated with the websites, the easiest thing to do is add a note to stating that the content is in the public domain or the GFDL, otherwise if you want to use the text you should ask permission from the copyright holder - the steps are outlined at Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission - and make a note that you've done this on the articles talk pages. Your latest claim that the text is not copyrighted is rather undermined by the fact that the page in question says "© 2008 Atlanta Symphony Orchestra". Everything written is actually copyrighted. You can never say it's not copyrighted unless the AUTHOR of the text either releases the text into public domain. As there are no such statement visible anywhere the text is copyrighted. Suva Чего? 21:37, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion

Dr. Jeffords, the page is copyright. There's a big copyright notice in the lower left-hand corner, and even if there weren't it would still be copyright. Unless it specifically states on the page that the text is GFDL or public domain, it is copyright. Please do not copy it here. We do not accept copyrighted material. I suggest, if you are interested in writing about these topics (and they both are clearly notable) that you do so in your own words; we would be quite happy to accept that instead.
