Oshandi village[edit]
Oshandi is a village situated in Northern part of Namibia in the Ohangwena Region. It has the clinic and Aglican church that were estabilished in 1947 by the Canadian man called Mark Dirnardo, who was a carpenter and he come up with the idea of creating the hospital and clinic in Oshandi in 1947. The first headman of Oshandi village was Haufuku kanyanye who was Oshivambo speaking and the current headman is Paulus Hashoongo who is the native of Oshandi village. Oshandi village is situated on the very edge of the Owambo in Ohangwena region and it is close to the border between Angola and Namibia. In 1967 Oshandi hospital was destroyed by the war Zone because at that time it was the only big hospital. The South African fighters had destroyed the hospital because they wanted to take in the medication. After the independence Oshandi clinic was rebuild into clinic while the hospital was transferred to Enhana town since Eenhana was the only big town at that time.
Today Oshandi is one of the developing villages with health facility such as clinic and clean water. Since this clinic is close to the Angola border most of the Angolian patients are also treated in Oshandi clinic. The clinic has patients' accommodation and next to it there are government houses and the doctors' house.
The first thing that unique about this village is that its naturally divided into two part, the naturally untouched forest where herder mostly take their livestock for grazing and there are also some different types of wild animals such as lion, hyena and springbok. On the other side of the village is you will find the town area where you will find the clinic, church, electricity, market or shopping area and the councilor's office. It is 30 km driving to Enhana, approximately 45 km, driving west of Oshikango and approximately 25 km from the Angolan-Namibia border. The village Fall under Uukwanyama Traditional Authority in Etomba section and it is part of the Ondobe constituency with Mandume Pohamba (SWAPO part) as a Councillor since 2004 until now. The village has approximately 3 500 inhabitants. There is only one school: called Okaati combined Schoo, which means a small tree in Oshiwambo language.
This village is situated in Ohangwena region in Ondobe constituency, Namibia; its geographical coordinates are 17° 27' 0" South, 16° 12' 0" East ,under Google map direction.
Oshandi village is surrounded by other villages such as Ondobe Constituency, Omungholyo, Okanghudi, Onhamunama , Etomba and Ohainengena.
