Welcome!

Hello, Jrcrin001, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Unfortunately, one or more of the pages you created, like Stephen Carpenter, Illustrator, may not conform to some of Wikipedia's guidelines for page creation, and may soon be deleted (if it hasn't already).

There's a page about creating articles you may want to read called Your first article. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. Again, welcome! Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsHELP) 23:19, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

A tag has been placed on Stephen Carpenter, Illustrator, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article seems to be blatant advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become an encyclopedia article. Please read the guidelines on spam as well as Wikipedia:FAQ/Business for more information.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. File:Stephen and Becki Carpenter.JPG listed for deletion

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, File:Stephen and Becki Carpenter.JPG, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please see the discussion to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. William Carpenter, Providence Rhode Island

Your article William Carpenter, Providence Rhode Island has been nominated for speedy deletion as non-notable soapboxing.--Loodog (talk) 06:37, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Curious ... I re-wrote William Vincent Carpenter which has stood for years with major errors. Why was that not deleted? Why when that article is rewritten is it now going to be speedly deleted?

John R. Carpenter Jrcrin001 (talk) 15:53, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

You may wish to consult WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS for your answer.--Loodog (talk) 16:13, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
Please post on my talk page, not my user page. I'll look at the article. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsHELP) 16:45, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
Okay, one of the problems is that it doesn't really say what he's notable for. It says he's done some things, but he sounds just like any ordinary guy from his era. What did he do that made him notable? (Also, the sources are kind of iffy, given that they're on a personal website.) Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsHELP) 16:46, 29 March 2009 (UTC)
It really needs a major cleanup, and better sources. The only sources you have are from personal websites. Do you have any books or anything on this guy? Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsHELP) 19:51, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Nominated for deletion again.

Editor, because the reasons that caused the initial article to be deleted persist, it has again been nominated for speedy deletion. You must show that Carpenter satisfies the criteria for inclusion, using reliable sources, not members.cox.net personal webpages.--Loodog (talk) 22:21, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

William Carpenter

Please review the sources again in the article before deleting. I re-did them. William was an important member of the Providence community, the first of his surname to make permanent residence in America. Suggestions of how to make the article better?

John R. Carpenter Jrcrin001 (talk) 02:43, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

  • It's not at risk for deletion right now since the template was removed. I think it's good enough to pass notability guidelines, but still needs a major cleanup and still needs better sources. Also, you only need to post comments on my talk page or your own, not both. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsHELP) 03:01, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

AfD nomination of William Carpenter, Providence Rhode Island

I have nominated William Carpenter, Providence Rhode Island, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/William Carpenter, Providence Rhode Island. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Broken clamshellsOtter chirpsHELP) 15:18, 5 April 2009 (UTC)

Jrcrin001, don't despair. People are interested in keeping the article. It just needs to be trimmed greatly.--Loodog (talk) 16:02, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the pep, but it appears that I am way over my head. Too much genealogical reports and court ordered report history has had its impact over the years. I'll go back to adding material here and there.

John R. Carpenter Jrcrin001 (talk) 16:05, 6 April 2009 (UTC)

if i might make a suggestion, try making a page on your user talk User:Jrcrin001/William Carpenter (Rhode Island) for example, then move to article name when meets wiki criteria. also wiki likes inline citations, not end of section; and Template:Cite book, good work. pohick (talk) 04:22, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Hi. I just thought I'd let you know that the table of contents has ended up in the middle of the page. I'll let you do the formatting. And also thank you for uploading the pictures and references. It might help in getting the article a higher rating. Thanks. Tbo 157(talk) 17:51, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Tbo "table of contents?" - There is no TOC on that page. The formatting looks good when I view it. Am I missing something? Or do you think a TOC would help get a better rating?

John R. Carpenter Jrcrin001 (talk) 17:03, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

There is a TOC there. TOCs get added automatically to articles with a certain number of sections. Im not sure why you can't see it but I can see it using both firefox and internet explorer. Thanks.Tbo 157(talk) 21:26, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
Tbo, That is wierd since I use IE7. I am asking a better editor than I to look at City of London School. Hopefully they can help fix the problem.

John R. Carpenter Jrcrin001 (talk) 03:48, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

Maybe that's the problem. I can see a ToC just fine. Maybe IE's choking on it. Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • (Many ottersOne hammerHELP) 18:31, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

There is no way to indicate on an article that there is an ongoing survey on the talk page. However, anyone watching the page will see changes to both the article and its talk page, so that should be sufficient notice for anyone who is interested. – ukexpat (talk) 14:09, 24 April 2009 (UTC)

RFAR

Hi, I spotted this, and removed it as a malformed request. RFAR probably isn't the place to go either. But let me look into it. I can probably get something done about it. Best, Steve Crossin Talk/Help us mediate! 23:43, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Steve,

I was trying to follow the procedures after tagging the offenders user's page (for Iwanafish) which creates a tag and says "This is to inform you that you are involved in a Arbitration committee request at section name or at the Current requests section. User talk notices are required per Arbcom policy. See the relevant section for more details.

I added that request at the section name hoping for an arbitation effort. I was thinking of the current requests section but I got your message.

This situation is getting out of hand and ANY help would be appreciated. John R. Carpenter Jrcrin001 (talk) 23:53, 4 May 2009 (UTC)

Indeed, however knowing how Wikipedia works, the Arbitrators would likely reject any case as premature. The first step, unless you've done one already, would be to file a User conduct requests for comment. Arbcom won't generally accept a case if other methods haven't been tried first. Best, Steve Crossin Talk/Help us mediate! 23:57, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
Steve, We have tried informal, formal and a survey on Rehoboth Carpenter family. But Iwanafish aka 160.244.140.202 continues his

disruptive edits that are now vandalisim. See also: Culham and John Carpenter (bishop). We have followed all the advice we have been given. John R. Carpenter Jrcrin001 (talk) 00:36, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Sandbox test removed. Jrcrin001 (talk) 08:41, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

For this you want the Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism page to report the user. (S)he will be blocked.--Loodog (talk) 14:22, 16 May 2009 (UTC)

Exactly what I was going to say! – ukexpat (talk) 14:44, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
Well, I posted there again for the second time. I must be doing something wrong. Please double check me. Jrcrin001 (talk) 15:28, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
Did you follow the format they give "* {{Vandal|username}} optional brief reason for listing (keep it short) ~~~~" and if so, are you sure the user hasn't been blocked?--Loodog (talk) 22:13, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
From what I can see you never actually made a report, you just made a comment on the talk page requesting for some help. To make a report, you need do it on the Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism page itself. Hit edit and follow the instructions in the edit box. However, this looks to me more like a content dispute between two different versions of the article than vandalism. See Wikipedia:Dispute resolution for what you can do.
The other thing is the way your way of doing user warnings which isn't quite right. I recommend following the standard way of doing them which is listed here. You start with a level 1 warning, then if the user continues their disruptive edits, you give them a level 2 warning. And so on until the fourth and final warning. If the user continues their disruptive edits after that, a block may be requested. User warnings go on User talk pages only, not articles, article talk pages, User pages, Wikipedia talk pages, etc. - kollision (talk) 07:10, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Re:Rehoboth Carpenter Family

Hi. Apologies for my late reply. Just as a note for the future, Im more likely to reply faster if you email me as Im not so active here anymore. Wikipedia:Dispute resolution outlines what should be done in the event of editor conflict. If the user is repeatedly reverting and edit warring without consensus, you should bring it to the attention of an admin at WP:AN. Thanks. Tbo 157(talk) 09:41, 24 May 2009 (UTC)

Hello Jrcrin001. I just noticed your message about Rehoboth Carpenter Family that you left on 19 May. This complaint would have got quicker attention on the noticeboard proper, but I did check it out, and your concern appears valid. I've left a final warning at User talk:Iwanafish. Since this is a long-term issue, I may not see the follow-up promptly, so if Iwanafish continues to make improper changes, please let me know at User talk:EdJohnston. LDS Church

I noticed you have been changing the spelling of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to include a capital "D" on day. Actually, that particular church uses a lower case "d". See their style guide here. Thanks, Alanraywiki (talk) 01:59, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

Facinating. Their published books have a capital "D". Jrcrin001 (talk) 02:04, 1 June 2009 (UTC)

I just wanted to say good work on the Louis H. Carpenter article, its really coming along and in such a short time too. I watch the Medal of Honor pages like a hawk and noticed this one pop up in the last couple days. I hope you don't mind I made a few edits to it already. I left a bunch of comments on the talk page. Just FYI, excluding lists there are only a couple of the Medal of Honor recipients at GA and none higher than A class out of the 3000+ recipients. I am working on getting several up to GA+ and am glad to see someone new taking an interest in them as well. Please let me know if you have any questions or check out the Medal of Honor link on my User page. --Kumioko (talk) 04:26, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Thank you! My main focus is on Carpenter related articles, but I do dabble in other areas. I had gathered some info on Louis H. Carpenter some years ago and I hope his article will be a credit to him. As you can see from above, I am still learning ...

Jrcrin001 (talk) 07:04, 5 July 2009 (UTC)

Your doing fine, getting an article to Ga status is no trivial thing but your doing fine. --Kumioko (talk) 21:17, 5 July 2009 (UTC)
Although there are a few things that might need to be changed before it actually goes to GA you can put it in for peer review anytime. Here are a couple things that might come up.
  1. They will probably tell you to remove all but the allegiance and branch images from the infobox (units, ranks, etc).
  2. There is a new requirement (its actually been around for a while but wasn't enforced) for images to have an alternate text description of the images for folks that cannot see them.
  3. Some of the references still need to be cleaned up. Including some see also's still
  4. The section about continued serice and forts (or something to that effect should be changed to prose instead of bullets.

Thats about all the obvious stuff that I see. I will try and stop by and help out but I hope this helps in the mean time. --Kumioko (talk) 01:16, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi Jrcrin. Thanks for your contributions to this article. I have placed the picture of the statue of John Carpenter in the history section. Generally Wikipedia prefers not to have Table of contents or text sandwiched between a picture and an infobox. Please take a look at Wikipedia:Manual of Style for more information. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me on my talk page or by email. Thanks. Tbo 157(talk) 11:18, 8 July 2009 (UTC)

William the Carpenter

Hi John, no problem, I didn't think it was you. Adam Bishop (talk) 23:47, 12 July 2009 (UTC)

Oh, is it the Bruce C you warned me about? He seems kind of nuts whoever he is. Adam Bishop (talk) 07:52, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Yep. Jrcrin001 (talk) 18:09, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Thanks! I hope I didn't come across too harshly in my post. I read it again later and it seemed like I was more frustrated than I intended to be. I was mostly directing my comments at the anon, and everyone in general, not you specifically. Adam Bishop (talk) 08:02, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

File:WeatherVanefromSC1912_bookPage25.jpg

If the book is no longer under copyright, shouldn't it be marked as being public domain? I'm just asking for clarification, you may know something I don't. Thanks, and happy editing. Lәo(βǃʘʘɱ) 18:21, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

I am playing it safe. I have heard that there is a possibility of a new version of this book coming out sometime in the future. I want to avoid any issue of conflict with that possible new book. Jrcrin001 (talk) 18:27, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Alright, then that makes sense. Thanks for the timely response, Lәo(βǃʘʘɱ) 18:29, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
