Jordan Maron

The edit to Jordan Maron may be a wp:content dispute, but I don't think it is wp:vandalism. Please avoid using "vandalism" unless it fits the definition under wp:vandalism. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 23:08, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

Ah. Good call. Since the change apparently broke a link in the reference, I assumed it was vandalism. Afterwards I noticed that the original link was ALSO a dead link. Thanks. (HullIntegrity talk) 00:16, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

Hey Jim1138,

Sorry for not explaining why I made the changes in the above page. I made the changes in order to tidy up that section, after noticing that there were some repeats within the paragraph itself.

Defamatory material that you are re-publishing.

Dear Jimmy. I have been trying to remove defamatory material from this listing. If you listen to what adam savage says he does not reference Peter Rees. That is because he would be sued if he did. Similarly well referenced material was added to this listing and it was removed. In fact it contained independent references not simply relying on Adams version of events alone. We would appreciate your support in making Wikipedia as accurate as possible. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Peter rees tv (talkcontribs) 07:52, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

I already added the source. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Drankie (talkcontribs) 09:15, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

@Drankie: There was no source on your Tanner Foust edit when I undid it. Is the current edit a wp:reliable source? Jim1138 (talk) 09:18, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
@Jim1138: I guess a tweet from his Official Twitter account where he wrote what I added is a realiable source.
@Drankie: In general, twitter being WP:SELFPUB, is of questionable reliability, but may be OK in cases such as this. BTW: no need to ping on the user's page. Happy editing! Jim1138 (talk) 09:28, 2 May 2014 (UTC)

Hi, Jim1138, just so you know, those IPs changing the owner of the Houston Rockets aren't just adding unsourced content; it's actually vandalism. The name they're adding is the player for the Portland Trail Blazers who scored a winning point against them in the playoffs ("owned" them). I'm keeping an eye on that article to prevent further vandalism. Will probably semi it if it keeps up. Just wanted to give you a heads-up. Heimstern Läufer (talk) 10:10, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

Giggett and Total Drama

This user has repeatedly put information of a seventh season without any real viable source and is using only Twitter to base it on ,which from what you guys usually say, is not a viable source. Same source he's using doesn't even have the alleged information he's talking about which means it's false info he's now putting on the page. Can you please warn him or at least lock the Total Drama page so they'll stop putting fake info like a seventh season? Thank you. 68.105.101.190 (talk) 17:08, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

Hrant Dink's Grandmother

I am not sure what makes you think that the information was incorrect. (You did not cite a source.) My revision was correct. In fact, Ahchik was the name of the grandmother who talked to the headmaster of Jogvaran, Mr. Kucukguzelyan. He refused. Then, she talked to her wife, who eventually persuaded her husband.

I hope that explanation works for you.

If you can read Turkish, I can cite you some sources as well. 96.48.48.46 (talk) 05:19, 3 May 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.48.48.46 (talk) 04:39, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

@96.48.48.46: I undid my revert, but am having second thoughts. The ninth [9] reference in Hrant Dink which appears to support the grandfather taking him to the orphanage: Terzi Haşim’in oğlu Fırat Ondan sonra hayatım hep yatılı okullarda geçti. which is machine translated to: My grandfather took us to the orphanage gave Gedikpaşa Armenian. So it appears to be his grandfather. If you have good sources that state otherwise, it probably should be corrected on Hrant Dink. Please let me know. It will likely be changed back if that source is used. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 06:40, 3 May 2014 (UTC)

Changes made to "Bisexuality" page

Hello -- I would like to know why the changes I make to the "Bisexuality" page keep getting undone on the basis of vandalism. The changes I've been trying to make are not vandalism, nor are they experimentation.

The definition currently on the Bisexuality page -- "attraction to both males and females" -- is incorrect as according to the bisexual community itself[1][2]. This is a harmful spread of misinformation, as is the idea that only two sexes and genders exist. "Romantic attraction" should not be included under the label "bisexuality," as it has its own distinct label, "biromanticism." You also removed the addition of asexuality as a possible sexuality, which is frankly offensive, as asexuality gets little visibility elsewhere as well. 206.208.133.156 (talk) 05:15, 27 May 2014 (UTC)

wp:npov

Hee Jim,

on your page it says you can help wikinoobies ;). I sincerely wonder, what is npov about the following edit?

In The Myth of Male Power Farrel confronts the belief that patriarchal societies make rules to benefit men at the expense of women. Farrell cites hundreds of examples to the contrary, such as male-only draft registration not benefiting men at the expense of women; or men constituting 93% of workplace deaths; or being expected to risk sexual rejection, pay on dates, and buy women diamonds. Once married, rules made by men are more likely to lead to men losing children and their home after divorce—what he cites as another example of male disposability. Farrell contends that nothing is more telling about who has benefited from "men's rules" than life expectancy and suicide rates—and men lose in both of these categories. [3]

Hello Jim1138, You reverted one of my edits on Fenerbahce SK's football page. If you look at my title you will see that it is diffrent from the one you reverted. Here's why: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Neutral_point_of_view/Noticeboard#2011_Turkish_sports_corruption_scandal_article. If you take your time and look through that request you will see that user LardoBalsamico has something personal against me or Fenerbahce SK and using wikipedia as took for this personal vendetta.I know this is a huge accusation but if you look at my contributions page(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Rivaner) you will se that on May 25, 2014 I, to give reason for my edit, wrote that LardoBalsamico has no need to write about this article everywhere and after that he did the exact opposite. I also made my case to the dispute resolution board (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Dispute_resolution_noticeboard/Archive_89#2011_Turkish_sports_corruption_scandal) but he didn't reply so the case was closed, now my case is in the NPOV board and. I have been waiting. If you also look at LardoBalsamico's talk page (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:LardoBalsamico#2011_Turkish_sports_corruption_scandal_article) you will see that I tried the contact him, gave really long reasons for my edits and he wrote back just one sentence. I am trying to finalize this issue and patiently waiting to hear something from the NPOV board. Hope you can understand my situation and if you can help me in someway to finalize this issue, I will be thankfull. Thanks for your time.Rivaner (talk) 06:29, 27 May 2014 (UTC) @Rivaner: Would you please clarify? What do you mean by "different title"? Is there a better summery of the situation? You missed the odd juxtaposition (in German Expulsions article)

Flight and expulsion of Germans (1944–50)
Here's the compound sentence: "Germans murdered both Jews and educated Poles in September 1939 and later; Poles murdered a number of German minority activists and people accused of terrorism." Comment: this sentence construction is obviously the product of someone whose primary language is not English. The last phrase would seem to only apply to the time frame prior to September 1, 1939 (the German invasion of Poland). I tried to make that clear, but that correction was rescinded by XX, who obviously is hypersensitive about the Poles. My father was from ethnic Polish immigrant parents to the USA; my mother was from ethnic German immigrants to the USA. I don't have the luxury of being hypersensitive about either side. I am proud of both sides of my family, but I will NOT "take sides" as XX appears to have made his mission on Wikipedia over the years (I suspect he feels that the Germans are going to turn back into Nazis any day now, as if they have defective genes . . . about 75% of German immigrants that I met over the years at my place of work told me over time that they were part Polish at about the grandparent level (or further back). Defective genes sounds like something my German grandmother from the West Bank of the Volga German Colony on the Volga River in Russia would come up with -- she was full of folk/fairy tales e.g., of wolves carrying away children at night, etc. My German grandfather left his village (just west of Rothenburg o.d. Tauber in Germany) one month after his 16th birthday to travel to the USA with an older married sister and her family. I know where the villages of my two Polish grandparents are. When I visited my father's brothers in New Jersey, USA, they thought of me as Polish; when I visited my mother's siblings they thought of me as German. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.14.251.253 (talkcontribs)

Also, please leave a link to the page or edit so I can find it. I and others are often involved with numerous things and don't usually have easy access to the article in question.
My problem with your edit its ambiguity. I would tend to agree with your assessment above. If the number of Germans murdered by Poles were "none at all", the whole sentence should be removed. If the sources do not state that "Poles murdered Germans", the sentence should be removed (after being flagged with a CN). I don't have access to the sources, so I can not determine what is correct. Instead, I would recommend adding a {{dubious}} if you think it untrue. Or a {{citation needed}} (CN) if you want it better referenced. Important information should be wp:verifiable and wp:cited from wp:reliable sources. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 09:06, 29 May 2014 (UTC)

I have stated why I have removed the deletion tags on the articles talk page

Carl Frampton Article

With some information incorrect on the Carl Frampton page, i decided to make a couple of changes yesterday.

Firstly, the introduction says hes British, which is obviously incorrect considering Northern Ireland isnt part of Great Britain. We know of course that NI being part of the UNITED KINGDOM Of Great Britain and Northern Ireland gives its people the OPTION of British citizenship, but with no evidence suggesting Frampton has even exercised that right, it would be pure speculation, and maybe even just blind faith on some people's part that he could ever be considered a "Briton". Frampton has however boxed for Ireland on the international stage, which obviously requires Irish citizenship. Therefore if he is not to be called "Northern Irish" on his Wikipedia page, his nationality would most logically be "Irish".

Secondly, the page said Frampton is the current European and Commonwealth super bantamweight champion, which was again incorrect as any of his fans would know, since he released both titles in November of last year. I corrected that, with a perfectly good reference from BBC sport. However, you decided to overlook that for one reason or another, and made edits in the introduction to again claim Frampton is a current Commonwealth champion.

Im sure the above will explain quite clearly why i will be changing the page back to the state i had left it in.

I have reverted your edits. He boxes under a British pro-licence, its as simple as that. Your assertion that that if he is not Northern Irish he must be Irish is just simply wrong, British is the UK demonym not only a GB one, yes he can be Irish but there is no evidence of this, the IABA that he boxed for is an all-island organisation. But the primary point he boxes under a British licence and is referenced as such. Will alter to past tense for titles. Thanks. Murry1975 (talk) 07:17, 31 May 2014 (UTC)

Re North vs South

Jim, The US is no longer North vs South in that the War Between the States is over for now yes, but the US is still divided into geographical and cultural zones. The culture of Virginia is SOUTHERN. We are a Southern people. Our heroes and native sons include Lee, Jackson and Stuart. We say y'all, eat grits and have Southern Accents. Why don't you visit Virginia, I invite you to come to Roanoke my hometown and see for yourself. Virginia and the South have a distinct culture and attitude, just as the North has theirs and the West its own as well. The US is not some homogenous, identical country, we are diverse and the South has some of the richest culture in the country. Virginians identify as Southern. While technically some from outside the commonwealth consider us to be geographically the most Southern point of the MId-Atlantic region, no one from Virginia would say, I'm from the Mid-Atlantic. We are Southern. Our towns have memorials to the Confederate soldiers of Virginia who fought the North. So please understand that we are Southern, and are to be classified as such. We are a Southern geographically and culturally and to think otherwise shows an ignorance of American history and geography. The fact that I have to 'prove' our Southerness irritates me, Virginia has always been considered Southern. Northern Virginia has become culturally degraded due to an influx of government workers not from the state, but Virginia is Southern. The Army of Northern Virginia did not fight with the mid-Atlantic or northern states, it fought with the rest of the Southern States because...Virginia is Southern! The US Census Bureau defines the state as being in the South Region, the Virginia wikipedia page says it is a Southern Atlantic state. Because it is. So please do some research and stop resisting the changes because they are true and I will continue to edit the page until it is correct. Thank you (70.188.25.121 (talk) 18:16, 26 May 2014 (UTC))

@70.188.25.121: No, it's Mid-Atlantic. See Mid-Atlantic states

On the Mid Atlantic Page it defines parts of North Carolina as Mid-Atlantic but you wouldn't say they are Mid-Atlantic, they are Southern. The same is true for Virginia. While perhaps geographically it is the Upper South, the Southerness wins out. See Southern United States page or the Commonwealth of Virginia Page and both say they are Southern. Wikipedia itself therefore categorizes Virginia as Southern. So it is Southern and I will continue to change it to Southern. It is ridiculous to think Virginia is not Southern. There are perhaps Mid-Atlantic aspects in northern Virginia, but it is Southern chief. I am Virginian so I think I would know. Thanks (70.188.25.121 (talk) 18:56, 26 May 2014 (UTC)) Also see Southern United States. Additionally Southwestern VA is in Southern Appalachia and could not possibly be considered Mid-Atlantic. However Eastern parts of VA are not in Appalachia. So the whole state can not be said to be Appalachian. So the dominant identifier for the whole state whther Appalachian or coastal or Mid-Atlantic is Southern. You see you can't take on little part of a state and define the whole thing by it. I hope reading the pages of your very own wikipedia will clear up your confusion and help expand your knowledge thanks (70.188.25.121 (talk) 19:01, 26 May 2014 (UTC))

I have to admit that I agree with 70.188.25.121 in this point. I have generally taken the view that Mid-Atlantic was MD DE NJ PA NY with a sharp line at Washington. This is reflected as a viewpoint in the Mid-Atlantic article. The difficulty in the Public Ivy article seems to be that Southern cannot be construed as to exclude Virginia, whereas Mid-Atlantic has at least one interpretation that includes Virginia. But then I looked at Wikipedia for "Southern" and I find it includes Maryland and Delaware! For a pigeonholing scheme, an overlap is an invitation to redefine or rename. 84.227.250.171 (talk) 10:49, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
@84.227.250.171: Wikipedia goes by WP:RS, not our opinion. I personally don't care one way or the other. While historically Southern, it appears that Virginia is classified by some as Mid-Atlantic for its economic ties to that region. The article Southern United States is for the census regions and does not include a mid-Atlantic region. There is, of course the North-South convention as well as the South-Mid-North convention. VA is also shown on template:Mid-Atlantic as such. Entries on Wikipedia should be consistently classified if possible. Jim1138 (talk) 18:55, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
