Sunturion

I'd like to draw your attention to the edit Asgardian did to Sunturion, undoing some of the edit you restored and once more making the article inaccurate. He's put it back in that the character was wearing a suit, despite several comments by the character (see the Talk page) that don't support this. Yes, the character looks like he is wearing armor, but he also makes it clear he alters his own form to look that way. When the original writer resurrected the character, he went out his way to clarify the suit that had turned up in Daredevil as not being his, and says that 'Roxxon made a Sunturion "suit" ' - interior quotes round suit as per the dialogue in the story. Not "another Sunturion suit" (which would be the appropriate dialogue if he was wearing a suit or bonded to one), nor even just "a Sunturion suit" (appropriate if such suits were the common way to empower someone like him), but "suit" in separate quotes, because there is no such thing (from his POV as Sunturion) as a Sunturion suit. I'd re-edit the entry myself, but I have little doubt Asgardian would just reverse any edit I made.86.142.180.225 (talk) 22:31, 1 March 2010 (UTC)

Scarlet Witch

As I suggested in my undo of your last edit, please bring the decision to switch Scarlet Witch to X-men rather than Avengers to the Discussion page. As others have pointed out, the character was a regular member of the Avengers, but not of the X-men. ---D--- (talk) 00:23, 2 March 2010 (UTC)

  1. Only one revert was present at the the time you asked "Please stop the reverting, bring it up in talk".
  2. As I pointed out in my last edit summary - if you want to discus from ground zero, all 3 of the navigation boxes were there.
  3. A discussion had started prior to your revert - see Talk:Scarlet Witch#Template:Avengers, Template:X-Men
  4. The reason the 'box was removed was based on WP:NAVBOX, WP:CLN#Navigation templates, and a general consensus within the Comics Project not to cram every character in to every 'box. The upshot being - If the 'box is for navigation based on the contents of the 'box, it should not be placed on an article not in the 'box.

Dormammu

Irrespective of whatever else happens, I appreciate the assist on Dormammu. I made a few tweaks but it is very solid. I think in future I am just going to have to contact someone such as yourself if David A digs his heels in. Arguing for weeks over semantics in a few sentences is ridiculous. Regards Asgardian (talk) 04:14, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

  • Just another for later. Given how well things have turned out here and at Juggernaut, perhaps there should be a small taskforce that work together on the more contentious Marvel articles when they surface? These would appear to be the articles that the more "fan-inclined" gravitate towards. Regards Asgardian (talk) 04:55, 21 February 2010 (UTC)\
  • Hey guy, I respect you, but you just shot yourself in the foot on Sunturion. I removed all the in-text mentions of titles; side dialogue in reference points and weak colloquial language, with some sentences actually fragments rather than formal english. I appreciate the help on the image; and took on board the SHB suggestions, but the remainder did need to be tidied (have a look at the additions). I doubt the IP user is even coming back as it seems to be some random editing. Regards Asgardian (talk) 06:05, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
  • Further to this, I've actually made a few corrections to the language and story details as some of the version I wrote needed a touch up. I should thank the IP user for dropping by as it forced a much needed upgrade. Strange how I once believed that a combined PH and CB was the way to go, but now can't imagine an article without both. Asgardian (talk) 07:22, 1 March 2010 (UTC)
  • As indicated, I respect your input, but I think you went a tad too far in your comments re: Sunturion. I believe this comment [1] was inappropriate, as I don't appreciate being spoken to as though I were a child. You also didn't acknowledge the fact that you reinserted out of place titles; comments in reference side bars and fragments rather than whole sentences. Also, claiming I go about things "half assed" ([2]) does not help. Unfortunately, I have come to expect such behaviour from David A as the poor soul can't help it. I don't expect these sort of comments from someone such as yourself. But, in the spirit of collaboration, I have made suggestions. See you at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Sunturion#Contentious_section
For your consideration Asgardian (talk) 05:36, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
Asgardian, I am sorry you feel stung by the criticism of how you went about editing Sunturion, but those edits were not good by any stretch. As well as indicative of the issues that have been raised at the recent RFCU and the ARBCOM case:
  • You possessively reverted to your preferred text in the FCB. This has been pointed out to you numerous time over numerous articles as the wrong way to do things.
  • Pointing out that continuing to edit was, revert, or keep "your version" when the bone of contention should be hashed out on the talk page is not treating you like a child. It is reminding you, an experienced editor who should know it by now, that such actions are not acceptable.
  • You are partially right "half assed" is not entirely right "half assed but apparently well intentioned" is closer to the point. You went in to polish the article (good intention) but were relying, apparently, on your memory. You got got to a point where you couldn't count on your memory so you left the article, half done and worse off than it was, to be finished when you could get the reference books out. That isn't doing anywhere near good work. In some ways it comes close to the edits you revert calling them "childish" or "poorly done".
  • The ad hominem about David A really isn't warranted or relevant here.
You really may want to consider these, especially in light of the ARBCOM case, and actually work on how you are conducting yourself and what you need to change in order to work well with others in this collaborative environment. And not just for the time it takes for the ARBCOM to resolve, but long term.
- J Greb (talk) 00:27, 3 March 2010 (UTC)
Again, some of this is a perception issue. It could have been locked on the version with the correct formatting. Then a talk about the side issues. I have no issue with the minor formatting suggestions and since the original comic is unclear am happy to just go with the suit concept. As for the Dave example, I think you forget that I get negative comments from this person all the time. Reasoning doesn't seem to work and no one seems interested in weighing in. Therefore, the last thing I need is for someone else to be calling me names.

Star-Spangled Kiwi

Hi. We recently debated Sunturion, and you seemed open to reasoned discussion, unlike some of the editors on Wikipedia. I'd like to alert you to something I've noted about posted Star-Spangled Kiwi. I recently checked the RCX page, and noticed that a couple of members had been given surnames never provided in the comics http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=R.C.X.&diff=prev&oldid=194015525 This rang a bell with some similar edits in Xavier Institute Student Body, where I'd recently seen and removed numerous codenames and secret identities not provided anywhere in the comics. Checking, I found Star-Spangled Kiwi had added those as well http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Xavier_Institute_student_body&diff=prev&oldid=195274083 where he adds a surname to the Xavier school's cook. Here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Xavier_Institute_student_body&diff=prev&oldid=195269768 where he adds surnames to Melissa, Noah, etc, which were never given in the comics. And here http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Xavier_Institute_student_body&diff=prev&oldid=195257944 where he adds in literally a couple of dozen names not provided in the comics. I've removed the fan-fic names he added, and I haven't checked back further to see what else he was responsible for, but it seems that this editor has been systematically and repeatedly adding in his own made-up info to fill in blanks in entries. 86.141.63.217 (talk) 13:01, 7 March 2010 (UTC) Additional to this - he similarly added at least a couple of dozen false names to the list of SHIELD agents. 86.141.63.217 (talk) 13:57, 7 March 2010 (UTC) And even more false names which he added to the list of Golden Age characters http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_Marvel_Comics_Golden_Age_characters&diff=prev&oldid=196974084 Again, these were subsequently cleaned up (though I spotted a few still there today and removed them). It appears that this editor has systematically added his own new material to multiple lists of minor characters, which means any such list he has contributed to probably now needs cleaning up. 86.141.63.217 (talk) 14:28, 7 March 2010 (UTC)

Wikibreak

Life outside of Wikipedia decided I needed a trout-slapping... and I'm not to sure it knows about the trout.

I may be on over the next little while puttering with small doses of the side projects I've been working on (Dr Who image sorting, the comics navboxes, and the comics infoboxes). But I'm likely to avoid nuts and bolts editing.

- J Greb (talk) 04:35, 9 March 2010 (UTC)

(And yes, I'm leaving this below the sig to try an get this section to stay if I'm gone more that a fortnight. Please leave comments, if any above this.)

Spider-Woman comic book

As you worked on Spider-Woman I was wondering if you had any thoughts on this, Talk:Spider-Woman (2009 series)#Remit. It is part of a broader problem with some eponymous series (like Silver Surfer, volume 3 and Iron Man (vol. 4)) and I had hoped to fix those and trying to avoid any more cropping up in the meantime. (Emperor (talk) 04:37, 9 March 2010 (UTC))

Oh balls sorry I didn't see the wikibreak sign, I'll take this over to WT:CMC and I'm sure it'll still be rumbling on when you return. I'll leave the one below for you to catch up when you are ready as it isn't urgent. (Emperor (talk) 04:41, 9 March 2010 (UTC))

Infobox genre

Oh and while I'm here and odd thing happens when you add two genres and "crossover" to the infobox, newest example I can think of is First Wave (comics) but see also Necrosha. (Emperor (talk) 04:40, 9 March 2010 (UTC))

hrm...
  • "Necrosha" - Since "X-Men" is in the cat field, "Superhero" is auto completing. The coding goes wonky if the field is also present.
  • First Wave - "multigenre" was typoed as "multugenre". Also removed a red cat there.

Ghost Rider and Punisher Templates

Have you seen the other templates for the Marvel Heroes, such as Spider-Man and Hulk? I'm just trying to make the templates for Ghost Rider and Punisher match the colors of the heroes. I don't understand what is going on. If there was a report of someone with disabilities having difficulties with the templates, then I would understand. But no one complained about the other heroes. I'm not mad, I'm just trying to make a point.

JokerFan45 (talk) 02:33, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Bluntly: Look at the material I pointed to on accessibility. It is not reactive - it is in place so that complaints don't come in.
As for the other navboxes, for the most part they comply with the accessibility guidelines and requirements. And they have had pushes in the past to get "more authentic" colors which have routinely been brought back to base or the last ACCESS-friendly colors.

re: Ultimate Six

Whatever, I'll leave it alone. There's no point in discussing it since you're not going to change your mind. DrBat (talk) 03:36, 16 March 2010 (UTC)

I couldn't find a cover without a watermark, so I decided on that image. The current image is also very low quality. Am I wrong? --Beao 10:01, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

That the current image can be improved on? No, you aren't wrong there. A larger cover image would be better.
That a watermarked image isn't a good idea? Again no. Though if the 'mark is the publisher's it may be a lesser issue.
That a pile of comics is a good example image for the article? That's where the problem is. A single issue's cover works better for the purposes of the article.

Blazing Combat

Hi, JG. Just wanted to ask you to keep an eye on Blazing Combat. There seems to be an edit war brewing. An anon IP with an agenda appears to be violating POV, OP and "words that may introduce bias" guidelines. Details at Talk:Blazing Combat. Another editor's opinion is always helpful. -- Tenebrae (talk) 18:40, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

Hmm

Duck? Quack!

Of course, there's nothing inherently wrong with switching to a new account (if you're abandoning the old one), but it's something to keep an eye on, I figure. BOZ (talk) 01:14, 21 March 2010 (UTC)

Note the initiator and the checkuse admin's comment.
I've got no problem with the right to disappear. But... "retiring" to continue disruptive behaviour under a new handle because of a warning and scrutiny isn't good. Since we've got a positive CU it would be wise to watch for the second, or later/latest, quack.
- J Greb (talk) 01:23, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
LOL - I didn't even realize you had caught that already. Actually, I posted to Emperor's talk page (coincidentally?) just a few minutes before you filed that report, but he didn't respond so I figured you might be interested. :) I'll keep an eye out. My watchlist lit up like crazy (as it usually does when he goes on one of his cat-adding sprees), so I figured something was up. If he starts up again with another sock, his main account will likely be blocked as well. BOZ (talk) 01:50, 21 March 2010 (UTC)
Didn't get a chance to comment on the last one (my time is a bit limited at the moment) but what about this account which popped up on March 21st: Special:Contributions/Thanos_Lives? Returning to previous articles (Nemesis (Icon Comics), Realm of Kings), redirecting redlinks in an unhelpful manner, starting some very thin articles (compare Supernatural drama with Widescreen comics), hammering in categories and even using the same tools. (Emperor (talk) 20:10, 25 March 2010 (UTC))
Proposed over at SPI... a long with a request to block the IP if possible. - J Greb (talk) 22:23, 25 March 2010 (UTC)
Good idea - it is not as blatant as last time, so he might just keeping sneaking back with an increasingly softly, softly approach but, even then, he is not going to be able to disguise his edits for long I suppose. (Emperor (talk) 22:57, 25 March 2010 (UTC))
And TL and MB are blocked... It may be that if there is a "next" it can be hit with a FAF. - J Greb (talk) 00:35, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
Odd that the IP is already blocked. (Emperor (talk) 15:21, 27 March 2010 (UTC))
True... though I am wondering about a couple of things...
  • Oct 4 `08 - Rlvese "moved" "Darknus823" to "Marcus Brute" [4]. "Darknus823" is now reading as a "not created editor" [5] (see red line at top).
  • Feb 22 `10 - MB asked for an unblock when IP 207.96.47.130 was "blocked" for "C.LaCroix10" socking on it [6]. He was unblocked 5 minutes later [7]. Now... that IP had been blocked prior to and after the 22nd, but it was clear to use at the time. It looks like MB was using that to get a "don't autoblock" flag. Also "C.LaCroix10" was blocked permanently on the 21st [8] as a sock of "DesGarçon", who to be fair does not look like MB.

Ah ha, I was just leaving a note on WT:CMC about this. Seems OK for now but if there is whiff of dickery (which doesn't sound right) I'll just lock it down, there will be more people visiting some more potentially for idiocy at just about the wrong time. (Emperor (talk) 17:56, 27 March 2010 (UTC))

I didn't mean to seem to slap you hard there, and I think you'd be well within appropriateness to talk with User:CentervilleCinderella either on her talk page or on the article talk page and ask her to do things by sections when possible, and to be better on edit summaries. It's just that when you undo existing edits, it comes across less as a request to make things easier on you and more as a demand that she redo everything she just did over again so that you don't have to go through a fraction of that effort to tear her work apart. With an appropriate villainous giggle, of course. The user is pretty much a newby, is clearly eager to contribute, and should be encouraged rather than squooshed. -Nat Gertler (talk) 01:45, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Slow_Decay_(audio).jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Slow_Decay_(audio).jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? feydey (talk) 22:23, 28 March 2010 (UTC)

File:Border_Princes_(audio).jpg

I have tagged File:Border_Princes_(audio).jpg as {{no rationale}}, because it does not provide a fair use rationale. If you believe the image to be acceptable for fair use according to Wikipedia policy, please provide a rationale explaining as much, in accordance with the fair use rationale guideline, on the image description page. Some examples can be found at Wikipedia:Use rationale examples. Please also consider using {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags/Non-free. Thank you. feydey (talk) 22:24, 28 March 2010 (UTC)
