Image of living person
Can I please request for your guidance on the following matter. I had uploaded an image of a living person from Cyprus: File:George A Danos, President of the Cyprus Space Exploration Organisation (CSEO).jpg
This person has the right to exercise their personality rights as per the law of the country (Cyprus): Personality rights
So according to: Template:Non-free promotional I had uploaded the image of this personality and the copyright owner has granted right to wikipedia to display the image for free, but not for derivative uses as per above law.
This image was deleted claiming that it was not compliant to: Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria Policy point 1.
As per the law stated above, a fully free image cannot be provided. But a fair use, free image has been license to wikipedia.
Can you please clarify, on the basis of the above how one should proceed?
As I read from the regulations of wikipedia and the laws of the relevant country, a fully free image cannot be provided, hence the image that was uploaded under fair use, falls within the spirit and letter of the regulations of wikipedia.
Can that image that was deleted be restored? If not how do I go about uploading same image without having it deleted again?
Thank you.

- Personality rights have no impact on copyright. Someone can take a photo and freely license it, so a non-free one may not be used. I will not restore the image. — JJMC89 21:30, 24 October 2020 (UTC)
- @JJMC89 I am afraid at least in this instance personality rights have every impact on copyright of an image portraying a living person. The law cited above says exactly that. In the Republic of Cyprus, one is NOT allowed to take and use a person's photograph without the person's permission. The law cited above is very clear and there is no margin of misunderstanding that law. Your above claim "Someone can take a photo and freely license it" is incorrect, it falls outside the law, and the suggested action is considered illegal and a violation of the rights of the person. Please see here Personality rights under Cyprus and please refer to citation (you may need to utilize a translation engine) which is quite explicit. As the subject of the photo is a Cypriot citizen, and a public figure, I maintain that the suggested violation of the rights of this person is a no go option. Stellar77 (talk) 09:34, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
- No they don't, and neither of those things say that they do. Personality rights#Cyprus says
In Cyprus, people depicted in photographs can oppose their use in advertisements and their publication in magazines, even if it was taken in a public place.
An encyclopedia is neither of those things. Personality rights are a non-copyright restriction. c:Template:Personality rights is the relevant template for a freely licensed work that has such restrictions in addition to the license. — JJMC89 04:37, 27 October 2020 (UTC)- Indeed an encyclopedia is not a magazine or an ad (and by the way the law is not just covering only those two mediums - it's much wider), but if one publishes a photo on wikipedia and has signed rights away including derivatives allowed, then one indicates permission to use the photo even in the areas where the law is applicable - simply because one indicated via a fully free licence that they allow that.
- Now, in trying to find a solution forward, I assume that the template you have indicated, for which I thank you, is the way to restrict such unwanted uses. So, does that mean that if I request permission from copyright owner to alter the licence to a free one and simply indicate the restriction via the template, that we are ok? In which case, do I re-upload photo with a new licence or do you restore and I provide free licence with relevant proof? --Stellar77 (talk) 11:41, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
- Please have the copyright holder send permission using c:COM:CONSENT. After an acceptable statement is received, the file can be undeleted and the licensing updated. — JJMC89 05:02, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

I wonder why
Recently I tried to create a redirect from Teamkiller to Glossary_of_video_game_terms#teamkill but, due to the restrictions in en.wiki with IPs I couldn't, so I just explained that in Talk:Teamkiller expecting somebody would do it in my place (it shouldn't take longer than 5 seconds if the internet connection is good enough) but now I find this:
- 05:15, 22 October 2020 JJMC89 talk contribs deleted page Talk:Teamkiller (G8: Talk page of a deleted or non-existent page) Tag: Twinkle
I was just trying to create a link equivalent to the currently existing Teamkilling so that wikt:es:teamkiller (I was user:37.11.121.244 then) could be properly linked to en.wikipedia but, seemingly, to no avail. I honestly find it quite strange and unhelpful both for the project in general and for legit IP contributors in particular and I can't but wonder why it was done because the reason "G8: Talk page of a deleted or non-existent page" just makes me think that the message I left there was either not read at all, plainly ignored for some obscure reason or just misunderstood. Thanks for your time and attention. Regards. --188.76.242.63 (talk) 09:58, 25 October 2020 (UTC)
- The talk page is not the place to request a redirect be created. You can make such a request at Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Redirects and categories. — JJMC89 04:39, 27 October 2020 (UTC)
- I see. The usual (fortunately only occassional) loss of time disguised as the "proper ways" to do even the tiniest thing. That little bit of info would have come handy in the deletion comment but thanks anyway. By the way, if the redirect page is eventually created, will the deleted edition be restored? Should it also be requested? If so, where? --188.76.242.63 (talk) 00:48, 28 October 2020 (UTC)
- It can be, but I don't know if someone would routinely check and request it. If not, you can ask here or at WP:REFUND. — JJMC89 05:03, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

CFD maintenance to Draft pages
Hi, there will always be some manual follow-up required after CFDs, but please could you consider programming your excellent bot to update categories on pages in Draft namespace? Such pages are not members of the category, but link to it. The categories either have a colon at the start of the link, or are within a {{draft categories}} template.– Fayenatic London 15:59, 29 October 2020 (UTC)
- @Fayenatic london: Done. Thanks for addressing the two sections below. — JJMC89 05:05, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

Undeletion request
Per Wikipedia:Requests for undeletion, I am requesting that Category:Pupils of Olivier Messiaen be undeleted per the opposition to the deletion of Pupils of x categories at Wikipedia:Administrators'_noticeboard/IncidentArchive1048#Out-of-process category deletions by user:Hyacinth. Clearly, if articles fail to mention the teachers of the musician who is the topic of the article the way to fix that is to mention the musician's teachers in the articles formerly contained in that category and recreate the category. Wikipedia Editing
Jye Bolton Hi. This article has just been accepted by Wikipedia. I would like to set it out like the article you edited about 7 months ago. This one: Ross Young I have tried using a template but it’s not working. Would you possibly be able to show me how to do this? Thanks Collingwood Supporter3 (talk) 08:53, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
- I have never edited Ross Young. I suggest that you ask at Wikipedia:Teahouse if you are having issues with something specific. — JJMC89 02:51, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free image File:Arch Capital Group logo.png
Thanks for uploading File:Arch Capital Group logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 03:22, 4 November 2020 (UTC)

Bot Removing Video Game Cover Art with Valid Fair Use Rationale
Hey @JJMC89:, your bot has been removing links to video game cover art that I have been adding to address the backlog of video game articles that lack identifying art. I have been supplying fair use rationale for each of the cover art images that I upload but, occasionally, your bot has been removing them anyway and saying that there is a lack of valid fair use rationale. Can you please either disable it from doing that or let me know what I need to do differently to stop this from happening? Thanks! DocFreeman24 (talk) 14:45, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) Hi DocFreeman24. Did you notice the edit summaries being left by the bot and see the links to WP:NFC#Implementation? A separate, specific non-free use rationale is required for each use of a non-free file per WP:NFCCE; so, if a file is being used more than once in the same article or being used in more than one article, a non-free use rationale is needed for each use. The bot only removes files “missing” rationales. Perhaps if you check again to see whether you either forgot to add the required rationales or whether they were malformed. In addition, adding a rationale is WP:JUSTONE of the ten non-free content use criteria; all ten need to be met for a non-free use to be considered compliant. It becomes increasingly harder to justify additional uses of a non-free file the more times it’s used; so, adding a rationale should stop the bot, but it doesn’t necessarily mean the use is policy compliant and someone could still challenge it. — Marchjuly (talk) 22:17, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
- Apologies, I think I figured out what the issue is and can address so the bot does not delete. Thanks! DocFreeman24 (talk) 22:46, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
- @DocFreeman24: You may blank your user talk page if you want, but you shouldn’t remove posts made other editors from another editor’s user talk page without a good policy-based reason for doing so. — Marchjuly (talk) 23:40, 5 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hi @Marchjuly:, I didn't mean to offend you or break any rules. As you can see from the above, I figured out the issue on my own and wanted to strikethrough the post so that no one else spent any time on it. When I went to publish the edit, it looked like you had just made an intervening edit responding to my now-resolved issue. So I proceeded to publish my deletion since that seemed to resolve the matter. I apologize if that was not ideal etiquette, I was simply trying to avoid anyone else spending time on the issue. Have a nice night. DocFreeman24 (talk) 00:31, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
- I wasn't offended and and I figured it was something like that; however, you should try and remember not to do such a thing or at least leave an edit summary explaining why if you think it really needs to be done. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:39, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hi @Marchjuly: again, it was a mistaken judgment call based on a conflicting edit and I'm sorry to have upset you. Again, have a nice night.DocFreeman24 (talk) 00:52, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
- No worries. Please see what I posted at File talk:Battle of the Buldge Video Game.jpg#Non-free use rationale problem since it explains why the bot removed one particular file. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:03, 6 November 2020 (UTC)

Block bot please
Hi, JJMC89 bot III adds "<span" and so on in its edit summaries, and the page sections it links to are nonexistant as a result. example Can you or an admin who sees this please block this bot. --Distelfinck (talk) 01:11, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
- A block is not necessary. Yes, it isn't ideal to have the edit summary with broken links; however, the link functions the same as a link without a section (which is what it will now use if it encounters something similar), and the edits themselves are correct. — JJMC89 07:03, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
Music Television Pictures being deleted
Hell0, I am editing the page music television and I added pictures through the wiki common tool on the visual editor. This bot came and deleted two pictures that I find very relevant to the examples I provided in the text. they were deleted based on the Wikipedia:Non-free content criteria even though they came from wikicommons — Preceding unsigned comment added by SydStudent (talk • contribs) 03:29, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) Hi SydStudent. It looks like the bot only removed (it didn't delete) File:Mjthriller.jpg and File:Jimi Hendrix performing "The Star Spangled Banner" at Woodstock, August 18, 1969.jpg from the aticle with this edit. Those two files aren't file uploaded to Commons; they are file uploaded locally to Wikipedia as non-free content. This means that each use of them on Wikipedia needs to comply with Wikipedia's non-free content use policy; so, if you want to use them in the article "Music television", you're going to have provide a non-free use rationale for each file that explains how all ten of the non-free content use criteria are being met for their use in that article. Just from looking at the way they were being used in that article, however, I think you're going to have a pretty hard time establishing a consensus in favor of their use since the way there were being used was more decorative than contexutual. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:37, 6 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Marchjuly thanks for clarifying that. I changed the photos — Preceding unsigned comment added by SydStudent (talk • contribs) 14:23, 8 November 2020 (UTC)
Bot query
Hi a couple of times in the last few days I’ve seen a new page patroller move and article from mainspace to draft, only to see your bot move it back into mainspace again shortly afterwards without any intervening edits to improve the sourcing. Why is it doing this? Thanks Mccapra (talk) 10:40, 9 November 2020 (UTC)
- I don't have a bot that moves drafts. What I'm guessing you're seeing is 1) my bot adds {{drafts moved from mainspace}} to the draft after draftification, 2) the article is recreated, 3) and an admin (frequently me) history merges the draft into the article. — JJMC89 02:17, 10 November 2020 (UTC)
Bot reomoving Campion School logo
Hii JJMC89 your bot continuously removing Campion School, Raipurlogo Please Stop this — Preceding unsigned comment added by Official TusharSahu (talk • contribs) 15:12, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
- (talk page watcher) Hi Official TusharSahu. The bot keeps removing the logo because it is licensed as non-free content and non-free content isn't allowed to be used in drafts per non-free content use criterion #9 as explained in WP:DRAFTS#Preparing drafts. So, please stop continuously trying to add the logo to the drafts, but instead wait until the draft has been approved as an article. Then, you will need to make sure that the file's use in the article satisfies all ten non-free content use criteria before adding it to that article. This is not so clear since the file is already being used twice and there's a bit of a problem with those uses that needs to be resolved. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:35, 12 November 2020 (UTC)
Mission section on WISER page
Hi! Thanks for alerting me of Wiki's policy on mission statements. Upon reading the page, it seems like the goal is to avoid generalized mission statements that hold little substance. However, WISER's mission statement is actually a mission that they aspire to achieve and doesn't contain the flowery language that Wikipedia cautions against. Some of the section you deleted also contained WISER's research approach, which is essential to the organization. I'm going to revise this section and add information back to the page, and please let me know if you still have specific critiques. Emilyp99 (talk) 00:41, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
JJMC89 bot + Non-free reduce
Hi. I saw that JJMC89 bot adds the {{Non-free reduce}} template. The problem is that the bot that automatically reduces images needs a date of confirmation (like here). This is simply solved by changing the configuration from {{Non-free reduce}} to {{Non-free reduce|date=~~~~~}}. I tell you this because Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests is becoming overpopulated. Thanks. (CC) Tbhotch™ 17:54, 17 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hi. The template does not have a date parameter, and providing it has no impact on DatBot. — JJMC89 00:26, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
Spans in edit summary of JJMC89 bot III
CfD discussion Wikipedia:Categories for discussion/Log/2020 October 4 § Neologisms, words and phases introduced in time periods had an anchor added via {{subst:anchor}} to its heading when two discussions were merged. User:JJMC89 bot III does not exclude the <span>...</span>

Side note: for users who click on [edit] link by the section heading, MediaWiki excludes the span (as you can see in this section), but does not exclude {{anchor}}—see Template:Anchor#Limitations. —andrybak (talk) 09:47, 18 November 2020 (UTC)

men's professional softball league - Detroit Caesars
I saw your note regarding deletion of deletion notices. I read them as being able to delete if I had addressed the issues identified. Apologies. I have been addressing notes regarding rationale for various images of professional softball teams. I continue to be confused by the notifications for several image files. I find comparable images on other files and this notification is focused on criteria 8 and, again, I find the rationale used similar to other allowed images on Wikipedia. Any suggestions for how I can improve and rectify this matter?! It's exhausting trying to figure this out without heading back to law school. I've made several modifications to the rationales that I would think address the need. Any help is appreciated. Nbeeker (talk) 18:33, 21 November 2020 (UTC)

Abuse
Hello,
I am the editor who submitted a case about Ashuraya145. My charge downed and the mobile turned off and the IP address was changed because of that.
I believe this user's disruptive edits while he was logged out was not by an accident. He started editing the page with his ip AFTER i had wrote that I would report him. I don't believe someone would do 7 reverts by an accident while logged out. I think this abuse deserves a sanction.
