Malformed User Page
Hey there, Intelligentsium, I saw your name on WP:AIV, I thought to visit and drop a hi. Upon reaching your user page, I found it malformed. Just a notice, and happy wikifying!--Ecstacy Xtcy3 02:33, 27 March 2010 (UTC) --Ecstacy Xtcy3 02:33, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
- Malformed how? I know the "fake title" does not always overlay correctly with the real title, if that is what you mean; unfortunately, there is no solution to that. Cheers, Intelligentsium 02:39, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

I'm using this function to display the percentage of articles I wrote on it.wikipedia (about 600), I just don't like all those unnecessary decimals. Careful!
When you revert vandalism, such as at Amy Williams (with your sock), it's usually a good idea to have a quick look at the page history to determine whether you need to revert any further back. In this case, the edit prior to the one you reverted was also vandalism, but I've reverted the page back to the last "clean" version. Just taking a moment to check the history can save further problems later on. :) Best, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts?
- Thanks for the help. I should have been more careful, but I suppose that's what I get for trying to squeeze a few hasty reverts in at the end of the workday. I'll be more careful next time. Cheers, Intelligentsium 19:56, 18 June 2010 (UTC)

Thanks
Thank you very much for signing up for the July Backlog Elimination Drive! The copyedit backlog stretches back two and a half years, all the way back to the beginning of 2008! We're really going to need all the help we can muster to get it down to a manageable number. We've ambitiously set a goal of clearing all of 2008 from the backlog this month. So once again, thanks for your support! --Diannaa TALK 02:30, 8 July 2010 (UTC)
Permaban 71.51.135.191.
I just wound up reverting a couple of their edits on the same page, couple minutes apart. Checked their history and they have a consistent pattern regarding this. You were the last person to enact a ban on them, and they are obviously incorrigible. :( 1:57am Eastern 7/15/2010 67.149.104.75 (talk) 05:58, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, but I am not an administrator and thus cannot issue blocks (which is what I assume you mean by "Permaban"; note there is a difference between a block and a ban). I have warned that anonymous user in the past, and have now issued a final warning. If this user continues to vandalize, you can report him or her to WP:AIV, where an administrator will take appropriate action. Intelligentsock 14:46, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
Browser spell checking
Hi, Thanks for your reply to my help request - please accept my apologies for taking so long to answer, I've been on WP rarely of late, and had forgotten I'd asked the question! I use Opera and the preferences are set to British English, so i'm baffled as to why it checks this in American! I'd assumed that it was the WP editor, but thanks for the info. Having used Opera for longer than i've been a registered user of WP and as I generally don't edit from anywhere but home this had not occurred to me! I'll look for info in the Opera forums. GOCE Newsletter
Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive! We have now passed the halfway point, so here's an update. Progress Report - Progress toward the targets has been good. 751 articles out of the approximately 1,600 we would like to get completed by the end of the month were done by July 15, so we will be very close to meeting the target for volume. However, we would like to clear all of the 2008 articles from the backlog, and there are still 892 left to do. Please consider choosing one of these older articles when looking for something to copy edit. If we focus our firepower we can completely wipe out 2008 from the queue. Participation Report - 95 people signed up for the July drive. This is a great result compared to May, when we had 36. However, in May only one person that signed up didn't do any copy edits, and in July only 59 of the 95 have posted any copy edits on the big board. The task may seem insurmountable but please remember that if all 95 participants copy edit just one article a day from now until the end of the month, we will eliminate 1,300 more articles from the backlog. So please consider participating at whatever level you can! All contributions are appreciated. This newsletter was prepared for the GOCE by Diannaa (Talk), S Masters (talk), and The Raptor Let's talk. |
erm, could you help me?
- In my user space. The helpdesk question.. • Ling.Nut 16:28, 20 July 2010 (UTC)
- Could you clarify what you need? I assume you need to refer to some note more than once, but without knowing which note I can only give generic advice:
- On the first note, you need to have the full
{{#tag:ref|content|name="name"|group=notes}}
. However, for all subsequent references to that note you can simply put <ref name="name" group=notes />
or{{#tag:ref|name="name"|group=notes}}
. Intelligentsock 17:19, 20 July 2010 (UTC)- That's got it! Thanks! ...oh, another question. Some of the Notes in the article I'm working on are H-U-G-E. In the wikitext of the article, they make it difficult to keep track of where one should edit the article text. It's confusing. Is there a way I can physically locate the Notes in the Notes section, using named refs so there's a link in the article text, and... here's the thing.. not have the little blue [notes 1]? I know it can be done with <ref> tags (as it is in the Six-day War article).. but how about with group=notes? Tks!!! • Ling.Nut 10:54, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
- There is only one way I know of to accomplish what you ask. I haven't actually used it before but I am familiar with its usage. By using the templates {{ref label}} and {{note label}}, you can bypass the ref tag syntax completely, somewhat like hardcoding the notes. However, this method is a bit complex, so I have implemented it for you on all of the notes currently present (although I cannot seem to locate where note 3 was used to be). TOC query
Do you know if there is a means to communicate to the wiki from within a table to add a line to a TOC? Appreciate the help. Д-рСДжП,ДС 16:52, 23 July 2010 (UTC)
- The only way I know of to add a line to the Table of contents is to use a header. From within a table, you may have to use HTML
<h2>
tags. You should consult the Manual of Style for guidance whether/how headers should be used inside tables. Intelligentsock 15:42, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
The WP:FEED backlog
Hello, I see you made a request at WP:FEED a long time ago, but have continued to be active on Wikipedia and made good edits to the encyclopedia. Since you have posted on WP:FEED in the past, I would like to suggest that if you want please try and help out at the page, as we have a massive backlog. It'd be really great if you provided some advice to other, new users on their articles.
To do this, you'll just need to take a look at their article, which they'll post the link to, and maybe see what perhaps can be improved, like adding sections, references or links, much like you would do with any other article, except you are giving feedback rather than making actual edits. After getting some idea of what needs to be improved, you just need to tell them briefly underneath. It's really simple but incredibly useful to new users and their articles, and helps to overall increase the quality of these new articles.
I hope you will at least consider, thanks. Please send me a message if you have any further questions. Thanks a lot! Chevymontecarlo 13:34, 6 August 2010 (UTC)
- I don't recall ever actually using WP:FEED myself (but I may be mistaken—if I did it must have been a long time ago). I have, however, occasionally given users advice on their articles in the past, as you have suggested, though regrettably I am quite busy right now in real life and do not have a lot of time to edit. I will be sure to try to drop in and help out if I can. Cheers, Intelligentsium 00:41, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
- I can understand that you might be very busy with other stuff; that's fine. Thanks anyway :) Chevymontecarlo 06:55, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Spain (climate)
I don't know if you are the good person, but I have give source in my edit : Köppen. The Csb climate is a Mediterranean one, and not oceanic (though the mountainous regions of Galicia are not Csb). So, I don't understand the reverts. --92.161.5.250 (talk) 22:45, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
Sorry, but Iberia nature is not an academical source. It is a review closer to National Geographic and destined to a large amount of the population. I have given a scientifical source, almost accepted everywhere in wiki : Köppen. Csb is definitively not an oceanic climate. So, about 80% of Spain is mediterranean, whatever the nuances (continental or not). That is not a very "diversified" climatic country, like US, Russia or China. By the way, the term "diversified" is not neutral, so it should be abolished of the article.--92.161.5.250 (talk) 22:53, 13 August 2010 (UTC)
- I think there may be a misunderstanding. I agree that there are parts of Spain where the Mediterranean climate prevails. You have been attempting to assert that most or all of Spain has a Mediterranean climate, and I appreciate your providing a source. Ultimately this seems to be a discussion of whether CSB is a Mediterranean climate, and whether to include "diverse" or simply to assert that Spain's climate is mostly Mediterranean. While I do not follow your logic that "diverse" is non-neutral, I will join your discussion on the talk page. Intelligentsium 23:03, 13 August 2010 (UTC)

Hiiii Intelligentsium
I'm a student at ITESM in Mexico. In my business class we have a new assigment! To open an account on wikipedia and start making friends. The objective of this is to be able to write an article about Mexico and publish it in Wikipedia.
I wanted to ask if you can help me? I see that you are active and I have a lot of questions.
To start, I will like to know what kind of article or waht you do at wikiprojects:Animals because I'm huge fan of animals.
Hope to hear from you.
Bye. Have a nice weekend Theoneinblue (talk) 00:38, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
- Welcome to Wikipedia, Zaira! I can help you write an article and become acquainted with Wikipedia. We already have an article about Mexico, as you have probably already seen, but there are subtopics that still lack articles. If you want to write about animals, we have lists of ideas at 1, 2, and 3. WikiProject Animals covers practically anything related to animals (which is not covered by another project); you can start writing about a taxon (a species is probably the easiest) or about anatomy. You can add yourself to this list to indicate that you are part of the project and display {{User WikiProject Animals}} on your userpage (both optional). Whatever questions you have, feel free to ask. Intelligentsium 00:50, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
- Just a note: the purpose of Wikipedia is not to 'make friends', as you might have noticed. Whilst one might forge friendships working alongside others to write articles, it is not the primary purpose. Cheers, Intelligentsium 01:16, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
Hi Intelligentsium, you have met one of my students. We will be working in WP on articles related to Mexico and business. Their assignment for this weekend is to make "friends" or contacts to help them get oriented.Thelmadatter (talk) 02:39, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
Pandering to Religion
Why are pandering to religion. The ark fairy tale is myth! Thats the simple fact.
You dont want to accurately describe the fact it is, so you dont upset the the extremly ignorant faction of xtians (as most know its not true EG MYTH) and muslims.
27.33.106.67 (talk) 03:50, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
- I am not 'pandering' to religion, I am trying to keep Wikipedia articles neutral and organized. The History section already covers the unlikelihood of the story from a factual and professional point of view. Calling the Qu'ran and Bible 'myths' in the lead section is out of place and only serves to antagonize Christian and Muslim readers. In fact, denouncing their beliefs so bluntly in the lead section may prevent them from reading the actual evidence further down in the article. While the article could be made more neutral and objective, your edits did little toward this end. Intelligentsium 14:42, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
Neutral... is saying its a fact not accurate? Does being neutral(So as not to offend the stupid) more important than truth? Do you think those that deny the fact of evolution because of primative religious beliefs, do it because they have not read the truth? YES or NO?--Somepers99 (talk) 07:07, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
- Answered below. Let's try to keep the discussion in one section. Intelligentsium 00:37, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
Creation–evolution controversy
I've merged these two discussions as they fundamentally concern the same topic and are by the same user. Intelligentsium 00:37, 14 September 2010 (UTC)
Oh its not about if evolution is true or not? Please explain what the non contraversy is about? Again with the pandering to the religious by not stating proven facts because they dont like the truth?--Somepers99 (talk) 04:20, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
Somepers99 (talk) 04:20, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
- I assume you are the same user from the section directly above this one, and that you are referring to my revert of your edit to Creation–evolution controversy. Again, your edit projected a 'throwing down the gauntlet' attitude, as if you were challenging religious readers with the statement 'those who accept the fact of evolution'. That evolution occurs is asserted by the immediately following phrase: 'as supported by scientific consensus', the only difference being that it issues no such challenge. This is why I reverted your edit. If you have any further questions, feel free to ask. Intelligentsium 14:54, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
No challenge, there is none, just stating the truth. Is it a fact? Is that important? --Somepers99 (talk) 07:10, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
- We do not try to avoid 'offend[ing] the stupid', as you say above. In fact, Wikipedia is not censored for anyone's benefit. I am not denying that evolution occurs, but there is a large difference between refuting a point in an encyclopaedic, dispassionate tone and doing the same in an argumentative, unencyclopaedic tone (the same as the distinction between 'The dispute is between those who support a creationist view, typically motivated by religious belief, versus those who accept evolution, as supported by scientific consensus' and 'The dispute is between creationists and those who accept the fact of evolution'). Regarding your edit to Creation–evolution controversy, whether evolution is a fact is only tangentially related; the article is about the controversy, and the merits of both sides should be discussed only so far as they support this main topic. Note that I say discussed, meaning sourced, informative, and unbiased coverage, not blunt unsupported assertions. Intelligentsium 00:37, 14 September 2010 (UTC)

As you recently commented in the straw poll regarding the ongoing usage and trial of Pending changes, this is to notify you that there is an interim straw poll with regard to keeping the tool switched on or switching it off while improvements are worked on and due for release on November 9, 2010. This new poll is only in regard to this issue and sets no precedent for any future usage. Your input on this issue is greatly appreciated. Off2riorob (talk) 23:36, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Adopt-a-user reminder
Hello, I have completed a general cleanup of the adopter information page for the adopt-a-user project, located here. During my cleanup, I have removed several inactive and retired users. In order to provide interested adoptees with an easy location to find adopters, it is essential that the page be up-to-date with the latest information possible. Thus:
- If you are no longer interested in being an adopter, please remove yourself from the list.
- If you are still interested, please check the list to see if any information needs to be updated or added - especially your availability. Thank you.
- You are receiving this message because you are listed as an adopter here.
