Hello, I'm Independent147. I am involved in the cleanup committee, but I am new and Mr. Steve Smith (Sarcasticidealist) was kind enough to adopt me.

Speedy deletion of The Phoenix House and Well

[edit]

A tag has been placed on The Phoenix House and Well requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a company or corporation, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for companies and corporations.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. —Travistalk 22:35, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry

[edit]

I will not contest your post. I'm sorry, but now that you show me the speedy deletion criteria I see your point. If you would let me know HOW to delete the page, it would be much appreciated. I tried to abide by Wikipedia's article guidelines, but I realize that I did not.

  • Hello there. No need to apologize as there's been no harm done. Only administrators can delete a page, but you can always place {{db-author}} on a page that you wish to have deleted. Anyway, you might want to look through some of the links below to learn more about Wikipedia. Welcome to Wikipedia and I hope that you'll want to contribute again in the future! —Travistalk 22:50, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay

[edit]

Okay, thanks for casting me the write up. I am involved in the adoption program already, but have not been adopted. How do I sign my edits? In the reason for editing box? Independent147 (talk) 22:46, 20 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Adoption

[edit]

Hello, Independent147

I actually intended to remove my name from the adoption list; I just haven't got around to it yet. I'm just not around that much anymore. If you don't mind me sometimes taking a few days to respond, then I have no problem with adopting you. You might want to find someone else as well/instead, if you want more timely responses.

In short: I won't be offended if you look for someone else, but I'd be happy to do what I can as well. Let me know what you think. —PurpleRAIN 15:01, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption

[edit]

Hello, Independent147. I'm an experienced user (been around since February of this year, and have more than 4,500 edits), and I'd be happy to adopt you, if you're interested. I have a pretty solid understanding of most elements of Wikipedia, but I'm still not much good at prettifying articles (vidually, like), so if that's a concern, you might want to choose someone else. Anyway, I'm on offer - let me know Sarcasticidealist (talk) 19:45, 21 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Independent - I'm not on all day every day, either. Generally, I'm on quite a bit during the week, and occasionally on weekends, but I sometimes take Wikibreaks of a few days here and there, either because I'm just not feeling my Wikimojo or because I'm busy in real life. There's no obligation to devote your life to this - it's just a hobby, after all.
So, to begin with, are there any questions you have at this time? I see that so far, you're doing mostly cleanup work (which is great - we can always use more people doing the unglamorous stuff). Would you like this to remain your focus, or would you like to expand your activities into other spheres? Sarcasticidealist (talk) 19:58, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Either talk page is fine - I've added yours to my watchlist, so I'll respond to anything you write there, or on mine. Personally, I tend to talk to people on their talk pages, but that's entirely arbitrary; do whatever you prefer.
As for finding articles requiring your attention Category:Wikipedia cleanup categories is a good place to start. Same with Category:Wikipedia cleanup. Something I like to do every now and again when I'm bored is hit "Random article" - I usually don't need to hit it more than two or three times before it brings me to an article that needs cleanup of some sort, whether or not anybody's actually added it to the appropriate category. Sarcasticidealist (talk) 23:13, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

What would I do for external link cleanup? Do you just delete the 'dead' external links? Independent147 (talk) 23:20, 22 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It could be a combination of that, making sure that the links that are there conform to Wikipedia's external links policy, and making sure they're formatted neatly. Sarcasticidealist (talk) 04:49, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE: Chisolm Ski Club

[edit]

I would suggest that you read the notability guidelines for organizations and then decide whether the club merits an article. Cheers! —Travistalk 18:21, 23 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Templates

[edit]

How do you make a new template? Thanks, Independent147 (talk) 18:34, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Independent - you need to type "Template:Name of template" into the search bar on the left. It will show up as not existing (unless it does exist), and include a red link that says something like "Create this template now". From there you can edit the template.
It's just like creating a new article, except that the template name needs to be preceded with "Template:". Sarcasticidealist (talk) 20:27, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I’d also like to point out that you can also experiment with templates in your user space, User:Independent147/template1 for example, which can then be used by adding {{User:Independent147/template1}} to a page. Cheers! —Travistalk 21:14, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
How do I get the picture to show up? Do I have to upload it to Wikipedia first?Independent147 (talk) 21:18, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, any graphic that you want to put into a template needs to first be uploaded to Wikipedia. And before you can do that, you need to ascertain things like who owns the copyright on the picture and under what license, if any, it's usable. If you give me more information, I should be able to help you with the whole process. Sarcasticidealist (talk) 21:25, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Status bot

[edit]

Hey, I wouldn’t put too much stock in that status bot since it’s wrong most of the time. It’s a shame, because it would seem to be a really useful function. Ahh, well... Cheers! —Travistalk 22:23, 24 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I saw that, as of your user page. You've been offline for 16 days! Oh my! This must be your ghost! Ahhhh! Oh well. Merry Christmas! Independent147 (talk) 00:22, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ahh, you found me out. :P Hey, Merry Christmas to you, as well! —Travistalk 03:46, 25 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Away for a few days

[edit]

Hey Indy - just wanted to let you know that I'll be away from the internet from December 27 until December 30, inclusive. I'll be happy to address any questions you might have upon my return; until then, happy holidays. Sarcasticidealist (talk) 12:48, 27 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, thanks. I haven't been able to be on Wikipedia myself the last couple of days. Independent147 (talk) 16:44, 30 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Are you still around?

[edit]

Hey Indy - since you haven't been active on Wikipedia for a few months, I've deleted the adopter/adoptee tags from my page and yours. I'd be more than happy to re-add them if you end your wikibreak at some point; if you do, please let me know. If not, all the best with Life, the Universe, and Everything. Adrianne Wadewitz Memorial edit-a-thons

[edit]
Adrianne Wadewitz edit-a-thons in Southern New England

As you may have already heard, the Wikipedia community lost an invaluable member of the community last month. Adrianne Wadewitz was a feminist scholar of 18th-Century British literature, and a prolific editor of the site. As part of a worldwide series of tributes, New England Wikimedians, in conjunction with local institutions of higher learning, have created three edit-a-thons that will be occurring in May and June. The events are as follows:

We hope that you will be able to join us, whether you are an experienced editor or are using Wikipedia for the first time.

If you have any questions, please leave a message at Kevin Rutherford's talk page. You can unsubscribe from future notifications for Boston-area events by removing your name from this list.
