TWL topicon[edit]

Hi Lazyges. Having topicons for TWL access is a good idea! I noticed you added information about this to Template:TWL Header. Because that template is transcluded to almost all of the TWL partner pages, the Adam Matthew specific information would have done too, so I've undone that edit for now. I'll add functionality to the template for including topicons so that you can add this to the Adam Matthew page specifically later this week. Sam Walton (talk) 07:33, 1 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Fight[edit]

Right, Back of the bike-shed, now ;)

Why's that, Iazyges? sfn allows you to specify the page number for each discrete citation, which all ultimateky point to a single instance of a ref at the foot of the page. What's not to like about that? refname allows you to implement a single ref multiple times, but it doesn't deal with the page number issue well (or, at least AFAIK). Example: Cheng Naishan. --Tagishsimon (talk) 00:10, 5 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Tagishsimon: What do you mean doesn't allow you to deal with page numbers? Its main use is that you can insert near-identical refs with different page numbers, and spread them out to wherever they are needed. Iazyges Consermonor Opus meum 00:13, 5 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If you check out my namesake article, I exclusively use refnames. Iazyges Consermonor Opus meum 00:14, 5 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I've looked hard at the Iazyges source; I don't think it does allow you to deal with pagenumbers elegantly. I'm just not seeing it. I'm seeing <ref name="Marcus Aurelius: A life 314"> and <ref name="Marcus Aurelius: A life 315">, each ef containing the whole title / author / publisher / ISBN citation, which results in a cluttered reflist which repeats the same detail over and over again - e.g. refs 27 & 28. Contrast Iazyges with Cheng Naishan - the latter, far cleaner & more logical, the whole nine yards of each book repeated only once, and each sfn instance a pointer to the book, but also handling a variable pagenumber. Still. Each to their own; so long as refs are used. --Tagishsimon (talk) 00:29, 5 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Move request of Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi → Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi[edit]

You don't need to open a new move request as the October one is still open; you can just comment there. PaleAqua (talk) 00:57, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@PaleAqua: I was following the instructions of technical moves, as I am not an admin, I cannot close it and move it as I had planned because what it should be moved to is a redirect, and I cannot delete it. Iazyges Consermonor Opus meum 00:59, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Since a move discussion is already open a technical move is not an option, and the template that you added to the page is just a request for another move discussion. If you are trying to make a NAC it hasn't been 7 full days yet since the relisting. ( Still has about 1 day and 10 hours to go. ) PaleAqua (talk) 01:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your RM closure at Talk:Rajneesh[edit]

I don't know whether you're familiar will all the history of the WP:RM and WP:MR discussion for Talk:Rajneesh, but one of the consistent comments in the MR was that it was unwise for a non-admin to close the discussion. Now you have come in and done another non-admin closure after only two days of further discussion after the MR re-opened it. That does not seem proper. I strongly suggest that you undo your close and re-open the discussion. —BarrelProof (talk) 16:49, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. —BarrelProof (talk) 17:07, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Your closure of the Takaya Hashi AFD[edit]

I believe that this AFD which you closed was not "beyond doubt a clear keep" and therefore not suitable for a non-admin closure. I invite you revert the close. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 00:39, 9 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Athomeinkobe: with 4 votes to keep and 2 to delete, 66% supported keeping, so I closed it as obvious keep. Iazyges Consermonor Opus meum 00:49, 9 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
For a start it was 4-3 when you include the nominator. Then there is the quality of the arguments that must be considered. It is not simply a numerical exercise of counting votes. So it is not as obvious as you might think. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 00:58, 9 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for doing that. AtHomeIn神戸 (talk) 01:13, 9 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Feng need fixing[edit]

Category:Chinese-language_surnames has three Fengs by tone, which is odd. In ictu oculi (talk) 18:03, 9 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@In ictu oculi:, hmm, do you think we should merge them together? Or else give them different names such By tone (the line above the vowel)? Iazyges Consermonor Opus meum 18:44, 9 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
No they are clearly different names. And we cannot merge because some in Cantonese which might be the same in Mandarin are different. I was thinking the 3 hanzi need adding to those 3 Feng names. Consistent with the rest. In ictu oculi (talk) 13:04, 10 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Page mover[edit]

Hello, Iazyges. Your account has been granted the "extendedmover" user right, either following a request for it or demonstrating familiarity with working with article names and moving pages. You are now able to rename pages without leaving behind a redirect, and move subpages when moving the parent page(s).

Please take a moment to review Wikipedia:Page mover for more information on this user right, especially the criteria for moving pages without leaving redirect. Please remember to follow post-move cleanup procedures and make link corrections where necessary, including broken double-redirects when suppressredirect is used. This can be done using Special:WhatLinksHere. It is also very important that no one else be allowed to access your account, so you should consider taking a few moments to secure your password. As with all user rights, be aware that if abused, or used in controversial ways without consensus, your page mover status can be revoked.

If you do not want the page mover right anymore, post here, or just let me know. Thank you, and happy editing! Ks0stm (TCGE) 20:10, 9 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Bronxville Women's Club[edit]

Thank you for fixing the title issue on Bronxville Women's Club! I know nothing about changing/moving titles, and had put it on my list of things to figure out. It probably would have sat there for the next six months. Anyway, thanks very much! :) Jessicapierce (talk) 22:27, 11 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Jessicapierce: the type of move I performed requires the pagemover user right, because the page I moved it to was a redirect to it, it required the ability to move it and the redirect without leaving a redirect. Iazyges Consermonor Opus meum 22:29, 11 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

pageswap script for convenience[edit]

Hi Iazyges, I've noticed that you've performed round-robin page moves recently. Thought I'd share a script here (js) that semi-automates page swaps for convenience, if you ever encounter the scenario. I've advertised this at WP:PMVR, featured two months ago in the Signpost, and have received good feedback on it. You'd simply click "Swap" and enter a page destination, the script performs the 3 moves as necessary (saves time having to manually go through the move form 3 times). (It doesn't correct redirects afterwards, that's still manual)

Anyway feel free to adapt this script as you see fit, cheers :) — Andy W. (talk) 08:09, 13 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New Page Review needs your help[edit]

Hi Iazyges/Archive2016,

As an AfC reviewer you're probably aware that a new user right has been created for patrolling new pages (you might even have been granted the right already, and admins have it automatically).

Since July there has been a very serious backlog at Special:NewPagesFeed of over 14,000 pages, by far the worst since 2011, and we need an all out drive to get this back down to just a few hundred that can be easily maintained in the future. Unlike AfC, these pages are already in mainspace, and the thought of what might be there is quite scary. There are also many good faith article creators who need a simple, gentle push to the Tea House or their pages converted to Draft rather than being deleted.

Although New Page Reviewing can occasionally be somewhat more challenging than AfC, the criteria for obtaining the right are roughly the same. The Page Curation tool is even easier to use than the Helper Script, so it's likely that most AfC reviewers already have more than enough knowledge for the task of New Page Review.

It is hoped that AfC reviewers will apply for this right at WP:PERM and lend a hand. You'll need to have read the page at WP:NPR and the new tutorial.

The page of 'saniya Touqeer' was created because she is considered as a good child actress & she did many shows. I gave many links & sources but still it's in deletion mode. If you made such rules than nobody will be able to create anything for sure. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ThisisApoorva16 (talkcontribs) 23:41, 15 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Jen(nifer) Paterson[edit]

Thanks for your note. In this case, I don't believe a block wise — the point of the similar-names part of the policy is that we don't want to have people falsely claiming to be the famous person. Given that Jennifer Paterson has been dead since 1999, I doubt that this user's claiming to be her, and if that claim really is being made, not many people will believe it :-) Nyttend (talk) 04:06, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. I'd advise against blocking Jen in this situation even if Jennifer were still alive — unless the famous person goes by a modified version of the name, an account with a modified form of the name is probably not going to make any claims of identity. After all, we're talking about people with common names like "Jennifer" and "Patterson", but the situation is different with exceptionally prominent people whose names aren't that common. If we had a someone register User:Melanie Tremp, a block for impersonation of Melania Trump would probably be in order, and the same would be true for User:Joe Boakai, since it's clearly a variant on Joseph Boakai. Nyttend (talk) 04:14, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
PS, I still believe that {{uw-ublock-famous}} should be cheap, since neither picking a new username nor unblocking is difficult. We say specifically that the block is purely the result of the username and encourage the user to pick a new one (they just picked one, so they should remember how to pick another), and if they want to keep the username, a simple statement from the user is sufficient. WP:REALNAME is relevant: If you have the same name as a well-known person to whom you are unrelated, and are using your real name, you should state clearly on your userpage that you are unrelated to the well-known person. If we get an unblock request from Joe Boakai saying "I'm not Joseph Boakai the politician", we can unblock and then put a link on the userpage to the diff where the person said this, because it works to differentiate the user from the famous person. Hi, I'm user yunacuicuicui. But the former map(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maternal_death) legend is really unclear and the data is outdated. I do think my maps are more approperiate for the Maternal death. I know the size of my maps are not really good, could you please help me to change that? Imperial Village[edit]

Hey. Not a whole lot on the villages I'm afraid. The most of seen is on the German page for the Imperial villages "Reichsdorf" (don't know how to do links to different language Wikipedias). But that page isn't particularly deep. The person I'd be inclined to check with is whoever it was that added the Imperial villages to the German Mediatisation page.
