Han Map

[edit]

Very nice. Two questions though:

What exact year does this map represent? Or is it just a general representation for the boundaries of the Western or Eastern Han period?

Is there a reason for the big green dot in Persia?

Good job on the map. Cheers.--Pericles of AthensTalk 20:10, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, I see. One way you could refine the map is creating a sort of map legend for the Great Wall other than an orange-colored streak. For example, a black line with rising and falling crenelations, perhaps?--Pericles of AthensTalk 20:14, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm. I forget where it is here on wikipedia, but there is a special page with a list of professional Wiki cartographers who frequently make maps on request. Maybe they can help you out. I wish I remembered the page. If you do a little snooping around, perhaps in the community portal, you may find them. Take care.--Pericles of AthensTalk 20:38, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nice work! I love the new map you made, Image:Han Dynasty Plain map.PNG. And with your source:

Self Made, copied map from page 63 of the book, "MAPPING HISTORY WORLD HISTORY, by Dr. Ian Barnes. ISBN 978-1-84573-323-0

It's good to see you're using a credible source. I can't tell you how many times I've dealt with people who don't get it, that images without proper sources cannot be used in articles! Lol. I think your map is worthy enough to put in Han Dynasty. Look to that article before 2008 is done, since I plan on rewriting it completely with my notes.--Pericles of AthensTalk 02:05, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Images size

[edit]

hello, please keep your image with a size between 100px and 800px. The 800px being the maximum for many computer. New mini-PC even need smaller images. I personnally, and like many users, prefer the 300px, which seems the most convenient. The syntaxe is [if you don't know yet]

Map

[edit]

Hello, I respect your maps, since there are a trustable sources. As Pericles of Athens said : that's the most important of all !

But :

  • source: I also have my own trustable sources. For the Han : the Cambridge history of China, vol.1. Moreover, I don't have access to Dr. Ian Barnes work.
  • map skills: one years ago, I was making maps like you (see Image:Tang_(616-710).png). But I noticed user:Sting making GREAT maps using INKSCAPE. Since, I slowly learn to use SVG and Inkscape (free graphic software). That's really good and convenient tools.

accordingly, I will work using these ways.

I encourage you to learn SVG ! That's really great.

Regard, --Yug (talk) 18:06, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yellow River

[edit]

From the maps already in the Han article, they do look accurate, i.e. they have the Yellow River emptying out near Tianjin, where it originally emptied out at sea. This was before the disaster in 11 AD when the river shifted course and emptied out further south, just above the Shandong Peninsula.--Pericles of AthensTalk 21:57, 6 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much, but I respectfully decline

[edit]

I'm truly, honestly flattered that anyone would consider nominating me to become an administrator, but I'm afraid that I spend FAR too much time at Wikipedia as it is. Although I might get involved in some page disputes and am sometimes a vandalism watchdog, my main goal here is to improve existing articles or to create new articles about history. I don't think I will have enough time in my daily life to devote energies to that gigantic, ongoing project AND the various duties that would entail being an administrator. I respectfully decline this nomination. Thanks, and I hope you understand.--Pericles of AthensTalk 20:57, 22 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
