Consider me touched, in the good sense of the word.

  • Wow; you set up a fan-club to me? I am so honoured, even though you really intriguingly set it up by accident (these things, like giving the Nobel peace prize to a crazed Uzbek dancer named Floss, happen, I guess.) I guess that the only members are you and some guys who think they're entitled to polystyrene cups or a ticket to Guyana for attending, but still... it's at times like these when I wish I could give a speech (without embarking on a long, parenthetical diversion about how I searched for Beck tabs and got a site advising me to 'enjoy your rabbit software,' or something stupid like that.) It's such a shame that being a member of my own fan-club would be so self-interested :(, although I guess that I could start a Great Gavini Appreciation Society; we could have parallel meetings, try to make a camogie ball out of doritos and masking tape, while watching Slovenian films. Or, failing that, I could come around every six months and sign Dutch grammar books for the members.
Damn, I really should not write while sleep-deprived; it usually adds 800% more disturbing to my character. Iinag, 23:05, 11 December 2005

  • Actually, the fan club was just an excuse to post this extreme example of kitschness on my user page, viz:
I.I.N.A.GThis user is chairperson of the It's-is-not-a-genitive fan club.

Mmmmmm a Great Gavini fan club? Methinks that there'd be more sense in creating a fan club honouring the brother-in-law of the pope of one of the lower castes of a long-extinct ancient race of Burmese cockroaches whose language had a total of 362.26 grammatical cases and consisted entirely of words which end in the suffix "-manganese". Greatgavini 19:19, 12 December 2005 (UTC)

  • Ah, it is sad that you doubt your critical importance to wikipedia, the shackled, misled people of Moresnet, and the wider world as we know it. You are critical to my mission to destroy the word 'proved' when it usurps the rightful place of 'proven.' Only you, or the red-haired girl from dodgy comedy Eight Simple Rules, could help me combat this abomination. I don't know why, but the man from Delmonte told me so. (And, to be honest, that cockroach pope's brother deserves some respect, too. As well as making the most grammatically-complex version of La Bamba ever, I heard that, also, he had some very interesting ideas about irrigation.)
As for my fan club, I thank you (truly and sincerely) for such an accolade. Unfortunately, I don't think that many people will subscribe, since I lack exposure, apparently. Also, there are so many talking-auberginists out there still, who want to chop me up and serve me with tartar sauce. It was just vorgestern when a gang of them dressed up like lemurs and congregated outside the Royal Ballet School, where I was taking a night-lesson in 'Interpretive Xhosa', and they tried to overthrow me by throwing a turkey at my head, thus incapacitating me. It's a difficult world...
Regarding that saying: well, it translates rather awkwardly into modern English. Damn this barely-inflected klutz of a pidgin! It means something along the lines of 'whoever enjoys making their bed will not lie in it:' if one likes doing one thing, one will go on to do something else that's related, even if there was no original intention. It's sort of like the more colloquial 'once you pop, the fun don't stop,' but about learning and knowledge, rather tubes of crisps. 23:05, 18 December 2005, Iinag.

Hi. I reverted your edit there. It's on wikipedia space, not article space... so, I don't really care about your change but you should discuss it first with other members of the project. gren グレン 17:08, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

Just a little question - where did you get your information on Atkinson which you left on the talk page? I'm trying to expand the article more. Greatgavini 20:03, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

I didn't get any of it from citable sources; that's why I put it in a talk page, rather than writing a stub; but doing some quick web searching now:
  • I'm pretty sure that her birth name was Grace and that Ti-Grace was a play on "tigress".
    • My own (possibly flawed) memory from the time
  • Early prominent member of National Organization for Women
    • My own memory, but easily verified from any number of sources: glbtq.com article on NOW, Movement Chronology, Feminist Majority Foundation. I'm not sure if I'd consider any of those citable, though; certainly not the second; see below for why I wonder aboutI changed my mind and cited the third. Shouldn't be a controversial statement, as I say any decent history of second-wave feminism will confirm.
  • not sure if she's one of the 20-odd counted as a founder, and their site doesn't list their founders.
    • what can I say, this is just a caution.
  • elected president of NOW's New York chapter 1967;
    • Movement Chronology gives this date. Matches my memory, but, as I said, I don't think it qualifies as a reliable/citable source
  • Left NOW 1969 to become a founder of The Feminists, a relatively short-lived, very radical feminist group.
  • By early 1971 she was specifically advocating political lesbianism.
  • Has written several books, article should include a list of these. Amazon Odyssey (1974).
    • Amazon.com (how appropriate!) confirms this one: [1]. Also seems to have a pretty fair listing of her writings [2]

I hope some of that is some use. -- Jmabel | Talk 21:28, 28 December 2005 (UTC)

Userboxes

Holy smoke! 128 userboxes! (I think so, I get a different total each time I count) How many did you make yourself? - 17:23, Thursday 29 December 2005 The Great Gavini pigeon post

Well, some I just adapted from others I saw, such as the Naples one. The ones I made myself are the capitalist one (the old version had been deleted), the Flock one, the Elton John one, and the O RLY? one. You're welcome to take them if you'd like. I meant that if you want to keep being informed about article and/or have information regarding Francés, you're welcome to contribute to the article. I'm only looking for information! - 09:57, 8 January 2006 (UTC) The Great Gavini art post

I have tried to turn a blind eye to these, but I have noticed at least two worrying actions you have made recently, ie.:

1. threat to block a user without warning (because of a "snarky" attack, which I don't believe can be categorised as one of the examples at Wikipedia:No personal attacks#Examples. Please state which category my "attack" fell into, if any. Please also clarify what you mean by "snarky", as it is a (possibly dialectal?) word which I do not understand) Blocking a user without warning is also against Wikipedia's policy, I believe.

2. attempted vandalism of an article (that is, attempted deletion of Victoria Francés) on grounds that it was "empty", despite it consisting several basic (but sensible) sentences and two subtitles. Short articles, according to Wikipedia's deletion policy, should be stubbed, listed as one needing to be cleaned-up, or...etc. In future, please contact me if an article I have made makes no sense or is not worthy. Alternatives to having an article deleted are suggested at Wikipedia:Deletion policy.

These two actions have seemed quite unusual for an administrator to make, and have disturbed me a little. Please get in contact with me to discuss these. Further ignorance of my posts regarding this matter will lead to me to attempt to ask users I know if they can get in touch with you. I may try to have your SysOp privileges removed, but only as a last resort. This is not a personal attack nor a threat, and should not be interpreted as such. Please write back.

[Removed rediculous nonsense per the warning at the top my page - Pay attention people]

1) It was a personal attack, chief. 2) Try and find one single bit of vandalism by me anywhere. Go ahead. Try. 3) Complain about me to whomever you like. --Jeffrey O. Gustafson - Shazaam! - <*> 11:44, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure why you deleted my last post ('rediculous nonsense'?), but anyhow, I'm supposed to make contact and resolve the matter with a user [3] before trying to get their SysOp privileges removed. I was being serious in my last post here, and deletion of it indicates to me that you have no respect for my opinions. Attempts to intimidate me made in your last post have concerned me, and I will take appropiate actions (ie. 'complain to whomever I like'). - 11:55, 8 January 2006 (UTC) The Great Gavini talk
It's not deleted, it's still in the history. Second, there is nothing to "resolve," unless you want to get taken to task for making personal attacks and accusing users of vandalism without any proof. Please complain to someone. --Jeffrey O. Gustafson - Shazaam! - <*> 11:59, 8 January 2006 (UTC)
If you think there's 'nothing to "resolve"', then that's this where this matter ends. Bye. - Greatgavini 12:11, 8 January 2006 (UTC)

N.B. As of 20 January 2006, The Great Gavini is no longer a member of the Inclusionists.

Which awards has Daniel Dorim Kim won? You seem very confident that they're noteworthy, even though the article doesn't specify the award(s), or even the field within which the award(s) are awarded, and even though there are no citable web references for them. -Colin Kimbrell 15:20, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

To me, an award from the prime minister of a country (in this case, Korea. North or South, I do not know, but it doesn't make it any more or less important in my eyes) is an indication that this person has made a great contribution to that country. The other awards (from Seoul's mayor and the country's commericial minister) sound notable and further add to his notability. It would be illogical if someone gained an award from his country for doing nothing significant. It may not be a country we are familiar with but we must try and empathise with a recipient of such awards. To them, it's probably the equivalent of an OBE or an American award of similar value. I hope this has answered your question adequately. - 16:38, 20 January 2006 (UTC) The Great Gavini speaking...?

Do you have any source of information to support the conclusion you are drawing about these awards? If he'd received an honor equivalent to the Order of the British Empire, that would plainly qualify, but I currently see no evidence to support your conclusion. You claim that "It would be illogical if someone gained an award from his country for doing nothing significant," but awards of that nature are given in this country (such as the 9-11_Ribbon), and I have no reason to believe that Korea is any different. This leaves open entirely, of course, the question as to whether these awards were actually awarded; why are you so confident about that, when the information is sourced only through his personal website (and despite my best efforts, unsourcable through independent means)? The list of Americans who have falsely claimed honors is pretty substantial... -Colin Kimbrell 16:53, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

His official site lists them, but I myself am confident that these awards are genuine. To me, it seems that if he had made up the awards, he would have been found to be doing this. Pictures of these awards are on his website, and there are photographs of him actually receiving the awards. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt here: if it's all a hoax, it would be a very elaborate one at that. It sounds extremely believable. - 17:05, 20 January 2006 (UTC) The Great Gavini speaking...?
Hm, hadn't noticed the older set of award photos. Thanks for calling those to my attention; I've requested help with translation on the captions, which might give some indication as to which specific awards are being given.-Colin Kimbrell 18:13, 20 January 2006 (UTC)

Does Lobster Telephone deserve a capital? Thanks, KILO-LIMA 15:47, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

I'd imagine that it would have an upper case "T", keeping with other works of art. Every bit of information I've found about the 'phone on the Internet spells it with a capital "T" too ([ http://www.dali-gallery.com/html/galleries/object01.htm the Dali gallery], for instance). I hope this has enlightened you. - 15:55, 22 January 2006 (UTC) The Great Gavini a yet unpatented form of communication (Wikimunication?)

Hi, didn't know if you knew, but usually it's considered very rude, and often suspicious, when you remove people's votes, like at the afd above. If you feel strongly about the votes, it's better just to put comments near them. Thanks! Karmafist 06:51, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

Deleting votes? I have done no such thing. At least, not intentionally. I don't feel that strongly about the article to be deleting other people's votes. Also, considering that the majority of the missing votes were for "keep", I would have to be very stupid to delete them if I was of the same opinion. - 11:12, 23 January 2006 (UTC)The Great Gavini lobster telephone
Intentionally or not, you did delete those votes[5] from the sounds of your other comments, and since as you said, it would be stupid for you to delete people's votes who feel the same way as you, it probably was just an accident and the best thing to do is apologize or just be more careful on afd in the future. Karmafist 16:22, 23 January 2006 (UTC)
Or I could do both? I'm sorry that those particular votes got deleted in some sort of bizarre accident but a) I was only trying to vote on an article that Jason-what's-his-face told me to vote on and b) I've left the Inclusionists (hurrah!) and hopefully I won't end up doing any slave-jobs for various Wiki-organisations anymore, like voting on articles I couldn't care less about, so I'll probably never vote on AfD again. - 16:29, 23 January 2006 (UTC) The Great Gavini lobster telephone
That sounds good. Wikiprojects and people spouting philosophies are all good and fine, but they're not worth it when they tell you to do things you don't want to do. Karmafist 16:33, 23 January 2006 (UTC)

Hi,

We started a proposal Wikipedia:Wikiethics to state the existing policies coherently and make suggestions on improving the editorial standards in Wiki. I thought you might be interested in contributing to that proposal.

Unfortunately, a pro-porn and pro-offense lobby is trying to make this proposal a failure. They unilaterally started an approval poll although almost no one including me believe that it is time for a vote, simply because the policy is not ready. It is not even written completely.

Editors who thinks that the policy needs to be improved rather than killed by an unfair poll at the beginning of the proposal, started another poll ('Do we really need a poll at this stage?') at the same time. The poll is vandalized for a while but it is stable now. A NO vote on this ('Do we really need a poll now?') poll will strengthen the position of the editors who are willing to improve the ethics policy further.

If you have concerns about the ethics and editorial standards in Wiki, please visit the page Wikipedia:Wikiethics with your suggestions on the policy. We have two subpages: Arguments and Sections. You might want to consider reviewing these pages as well...

Thanks in advance. Resid Gulerdem 00:50, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

I would love your help.

I know you are interested in christianity, and I recently started a new wiki over at wikicities which is on the subject of christianity. Christian Knowledge Base is the site.

The goal is to have a knowledgebase on christianity from a distinctly "C(hristian)POV" rather than the NPOV. It is not meant to be a mere Christian Encyclopedia, but to foster a real sense of community. I'd like to include things like current events, news, stories, and anything that would add to both an understanding of Christianity, but also its enjoyment. I'm looking for help to build a resource that could really enrich the lives of Christians.

I know you are busy but I am actively seeking new sysops/admins to help me build this site up, and I would be positively thrilled if you could contribute in any capacity whatsoever. nsandwich 05:51, 24 March 2006 (UTC)

Gwæt, Komraad!

Heil, Greatgavini; I'm back. I'm sorry that I have not been around that much; sadly, a long-term intercontinental relationship between me and some appreciably demented âme-soeur ended bizarrely. I had thought that the prospect of being the joint leader of two dominions ending with the sound /au/, and the idea of living with me in Equatorial Guinea, painting, writing, and exchanging bizarre exclamations that prominently include the letter ÿ was enough to hold anyone for life, but I was deluded, my friend. I had gone into recluse mode, living only alongside my pet elipisis, Obubu, but a veneer of sanity, and the endeavours of such scoundrals as General Ignoranz and the terrifying Peanut-in-Chief Of the Resurgent South to prise apostrophic power from me at my lowest ebb have ensured that I will be back, for good, and with 84.26% added girl power. My army of J Mascis impersonators overthrew the former; I have quelled the latter by acquiring pictures of him/it making out with a dishrag called Suzette, and publishing them in the esteemed and universally-read Hoeryŏng Examiner.
