page Giovanni Guida
[edit]Dearest administrator Bartlett, I need your great help. the Wikipedia page "Giovanni Guida" has been reported for deletion. The artist is known throughout the world for his scratching technique (grattage). can you help me not to have the page deleted. Thanks
- I will take a look at the page. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:11, 1 December 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot! God bless you! it was made the mistake of inserting the artist's image in many pages of Wikipedia .. but requesting the cancellation of the page is excessive. Thanks again.
- The biggest issue appears to be, are you or user:Guigen or user:Frangpan working for, or paid by Giovanni Guida? If so read WP:PAID and make a formal disclosure. The second issue, to show notability, there needs to be substantial coverage writing about Giovanni Guida or his work, by independent writers. This does not mean that any page that uses one of his artworks counts. But a page that discussed an artwork would count. Also place your reasons to keep that page here: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Giovanni Guida. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:57, 1 December 2020 (UTC) dearest administrator, thank you very much for your precious help! Yes, the user "Frangpan" has inserted the images on the pages, but only and exclusively to contribute to the iconographic research, no promotion or payment. Obviously it was a mistake in good faith! As for the coverage, the artist's works have been described by journalists and writers of the most important Italian newspapers (below I put the link). Please help me and if it is necessary to modify the text of the page .. but do not delete it as the artist is known in the world for this pictorial technique and his icon has been exhibited in many important museums, basilicas and cathedrals in the world by museum directors, cardinals and bishops. Thanks a lot! hi can you please give more information on why NGS Super page was deleted when similar superfunds such as australian super have written in the same tone and still have their page live?HannahNGS2020 (talk) 04:25, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- @HannahNGS2020: The page was not actually deleted, but instead was moved to Draft:NGS Super. When it was moved the reason given was "Corporate article with COI and PROMO concerns, incubate in draftspace". To address this you must disclose if you are being paid to write this page or are working for this organisation. You can do this on your user page User:HannahNGS2020. The "NGS" in your username strongly suggests that you have a connection. The instructions are at WP:Paid. What I deleted was just a Redirect. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 05:51, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
hi graeme, thanks for your help here as I am new to this. I have disclosed that I work for the company on my user page and have set my notifications so that anyone can see any edits that I make. I am employed by NGS and so not specifically being paid to post on wikipedia but the guidelines suggest I need to include
The Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use require that editors disclose their "employer, client, and affiliation" with respect to any paid contribution; see WP:PAID. For advice about reviewing paid contributions, see WP:COIRESPONSE.

on my talk page if I work for the company. Could you let me know if this is necessary or if what I have already done is enough? Many thanks, Hannah HannahNGS2020 (talk) 22:55, 20 October 2020 (UTC)
Hi graeme, would you mind helping me in knowing how I can try and get the page from drafts back into a live environment please? Thanks, Hannah HannahNGS2020 (talk) 22:49, 3 November 2020 (UTC)
- @HannahNGS2020: What you would have to do with Draft:NGS Super is to make it less targeted at attracting investors and be more about the company. If it is based on what independent writers have written, then bias is reduced. When the article is read for review, click on "Submit your draft for review". Graeme Bartlett (talk) 00:05, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
Hi Graeme, I have made the relevant changes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:NGS_Super i cannot see where to submit for review could you please help? HannahNGS2020 (talk) 23:45, 25 November 2020 (UTC) Hi Graeme Bartlett please see my message above - how do i know if my draft page is reviewed and may go live? Thanks, Hannah HannahNGS2020 (talk) 03:14, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi Graeme Bartlett. I am new to editing wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nicole_Couch owns the rites to the photo i uploaded. Hi Graeme Bartlett. I am new to wikipedia. I am making edits on pages of members of the American Philosophical Society. I work there and this is part of my WFH duties. You marked two of my pages as speedy deletion because they are infringing on copyright. My team wrote those biographies. I am copying from myself. I don't know how to add CC-BY-SA-3.0 license to the APS website. I don't have authority on the website. Any help you can provide would be great. I have found a problem in Methyl hexanoate. DMacks has constantly been reverting my picture uploads. The first one I can forgive but the second time,I uploaded a good sized photo but still the user reverted it again. I suspect edit warring for this, please suspect any problem.Nihaal The Wikipedian (talk) 14:55, 30 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Nihaal The Wikipedian:He's not edit warring but trying to be helpful. The space-filling picture should not go top right on the article page but be within the chembox, as I've already mentioned on your user page. DMacks also thought that the picture was poor owing to the way that some C-H bonds were depicted and I agree (Graeme, see [1]). Michael D. Turnbull (talk) 16:24, 30 August 2020 (UTC)

Nereistoxin, cartap etc.
[edit]Hi Graeme. I have just created a page for Nereistoxin after looking at the current very scant one for Cartap. I decided that there are a number of minor insecticides that were commercialised but are propesticides for the parent natural product. Would you be good enough to take a look at the new page and give it a rating on its talk page? I now want to create a redirect from Cartap to Nereistoxin, effectively removing the present content of the former. Is it OK just to edit Cartap to make it a redirect page now, or is there some special mechanism that should be used in this case where the old page has existed for some time? Thanks. Michael D. Turnbull (talk) 15:37, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Michael D. Turnbull: Under WP:Bold you can just go an change that article to a redirect. The old article may be required for attribution for those other websites that copied the text. But that is OK in the history. I see you have preserved ChemBox values, so that was good, and preserved what was of value in the article. Cartap could eventually become an article if it included production and manufacturing, and its own peculiar history of use. But as it stands you may as well redirect it. If you do redirect, change the talk page to say redirect instead of stub. Happy editing. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:21, 27 August 2020 (UTC)
- Done Thanks for the advice. Michael D. Turnbull (talk) 10:00, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
Quick Question
[edit]I had recently asked for a refund of Draft:2034 in film and Draft:2035 in film. However, I had noticed that it had been restored with the initial edit by an IP and deleted for hoax. Can the two pages be deleted and restored without the IP edit? Starzoner (talk) 21:11, 27 August 2020 (UTC)

1,2-dioxolane
[edit]Where is the style guide that says 1,2-Dioxolane should be capitalised? I'm not saying you're wrong, but it looks wrong to my eye. Compare 1-dimensional space, 2-port network. SpinningSpark 12:40, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Spinningspark:I'm not sure there is a style guide on this (Graeme will know) but in general all chemicals, whether synthetic like pyridine or natural products like threonine should be lower case in sentences. However, all chemistry articles in WP capitalise them in article titles. Hence the article will be 1,2-Dioxolane for consistency but you should only find 1,2-dioxolane elsewhere. Incidentally, the same is sort of true for 1-dimensional space which gets redirect to One-dimensional space Michael D. Turnbull (talk) 13:02, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, I'm talking about article titles, specifically, Graeme's move of this page. It's not self-evident to me why the "D" is capitalised when it is not the first character of the title. If the argument is that specific chemical names are treated differently from general practice then there should be a style guide saying so. The non-specific [1,2-rearrangement]] is not capitalised. SpinningSpark 13:14, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
- What do you mean "the same is sort of true for 1-dimensional space which gets redirect to One-dimensional space"? Neither page capitalises "dimensional" so how is that possibly comparable? It is using lowercase, not uppercase which is why I pointed to it. SpinningSpark 13:16, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
- Just typing 1,2 or 1,2,3 or more-or-less any other number into the WP search box shows that all the capitalised pages are chemicals, which suggests this was something agreed many years ago. Michael D. Turnbull (talk) 13:20, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
- tps WP:MOSCHEM/NAME#Prefixes in titles, which is consistent with ACS and othe style-guides regarding that letter as "the first letter" for whatever capitalization rules apply in a given use-case. That rule does not seem to be well followed for biochemicals, so maybe WP:MED has its own standard, or no standard? There's always work to be done on WP. DMacks (talk) 13:22, 31 August 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks DMacks for answering the query while I slept. We also keep the lower case redirect so that it can be linked from use of the name in a sentence. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:40, 31 August 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz (disambiguation)
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
A tag has been placed on Tadeusz Kondrusiewicz (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a disambiguation page which either
- disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic);
- disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title; or
- is an orphaned redirect with a title ending in "(disambiguation)" that does not target a disambiguation page or page that has a disambiguation-like function.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.

There are many references of Marina Bondarko on Google.
I've found one reliable source of reference, it's wedding 21 Korean magazine , march publication, do check it out.
Actually I'm new I can't write articles directly, so I told you. I think you can create this article within 5 minutes. Satyapreneur (talk) 19:37, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Satyapreneur: You can start a draft at Draft:Marina Bondarko. For biographies I recommend that you find 3 references with substantial content. Another venue is WP:RA to ask for someone to write a title. I prefer not to write about living people, as Wikipedia has extreme bias towards the living. Landfall Games
[edit]Hi Graeme. On September 7th, you restored Landfall Games, an article I created in March 2017, then realised was unnotable, and finally sent to G7 in April 2018. An IP user requested the undeletion with this rationale [2]:
Enter your reasoning here and then click the "Publish changes" button below
This was their only edit, ever, and the one they performed was likely an erroneous test edit, given that they did not edit the request at all (not even the page name [3]). I was only notified of the article's restoration today and I still stand by my assessment that Landfall Games is not notable enough for Wikipedia (WP:NCORP, et al.), even if regrettably so. The article also remains in the very poor shape I did not get around to fix years ago. If possible, please delete the article again. Otherwise, it should be incubated in draftspace. This is clearly not mainspace content. Regards, IceWelder [✉] 19:32, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- With most of those restoration requests nothing gets done, and the rationale provided is just the default text, with no effort to say why. IPs are much harder to contact especially if they are dynamic. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:07, 16 September 2020 (UTC)
- Either way, the current article is not (and probably never will be, due to lacking notability) suitable for mainspace, hence why I had it deleted more than two years ago. If it was up to me, I would tag it for G7 again, but I doubt that this is possible twice. IceWelder [✉] 21:22, 16 September 2020 (UTC)

Draft:Zohaib Shams
[edit]Regarding Draft:Zohaib Shams it was clearly unambiguous advertising or promotion and User:Materialscientist has deleted it as such. Theroadislong (talk) 11:23, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- Well I will say that User:Materialscientist is careless, but I will not undelete it. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:35, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- I'm not sure what else it could be apart from advertising? It was just two external links to his photography pages with no pretence of being a draft article. Theroadislong (talk) 11:45, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
- It was a POC, but not really enough there to be an ad. It could have been expanded to an article. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:54, 24 September 2020 (UTC)

Phosphorus trifluorodichloride geometry
[edit]Hi Graeme,
Could you check the source for the phosphorus–fluorine bond-lengths in this chemical? If the Cl are equatorial, then one F is equatorial and two F are axial, which would make it unlikely the P–F bonds are all the same length. DMacks (talk) 16:05, 24 September 2020 (UTC)

I tagged this article hoping to have it renamed to Donald McDonald Mackay, as this was the way his name was rendered, and looks a little odd, as he had a pastoralist brother named Donald MacKay. It took me some time to prove this was the case (see under Family) as I have never come across living siblngs having the same (first) given name, but I am now certain of it. Did I use the wrong template? Quite possible as I've only asked for this service once before. Please reconsider. Doug butler (talk) 15:14, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Doug butler: Well I moved it now for you. You should have put the speedy delete tag on the page to replace by this, ie on Donald McDonald Mackay. However you have changed your mind about the "Mackay" part, which before was "MacKay". So let me know if it is K or k. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:48, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks Graeme. My last-minute edit was unfortunate as I thought I had it wrong, and I was wrong about that. I then thought, no matter. I'll move it and automatically create a redirect, but you were ahead of me. Doug butler (talk) 00:15, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
Same-sex marriage userboxes
[edit]In addition to !voting in the relevant MfDs, you have acted to subvert consensus by manually adding the userbox to your userpage.
Now you are making WP:INVOLVED admin actions to decline speedy deletions of User:Techie3/onemanonewoman and User:Techie3/marriagebox. I'm not sure whether CSD should apply, but someone else should do it. Clearly you took away from that MfD only that the code cannot exist in those specific locations, but it is acceptable anywhere else. That is problematic, but less problematic than declining the CSD yourself. Please self-rv. — Rhododendrites talk \\ 04:24, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- What I do with these speedy deletes, is that if they hang around for 24 hours with no other admin taking action, I then remove the tag. It appears that admins looking at the speedy delete queue were not interested in deleting or declining these. I do not agree that the consensus in the MFD was delete, and that was closed in error. All these deletion nominations are creating a toxic editing environment and the MFD and sd's should really be left alone. I will however let you add the speedy delete tags again to the User:Techie3/* pages without action from me, so that another admin can consider. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 05:42, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- (remove g4 delete, never previously deleted)
- Strangely, the edit that created this version of the template has an edit summary reading "(Backup copy of template)". You know, a re-creation. Of something previously deleted. How does that square with your edit summary "never previously deleted"? --Calton | Talk 06:36, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
REALLY didn't want to do this, but... come on. G4 denials on something you're heavily involved with, that are basically identical to what got deleted? Adam Cuerden (talk)Has about 7.5% of all FPs 06:15, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- I was looking for a reason to not delete. But I think the reason I gave was lame. perhaps not deleted by anyone else for 24 hours would be a better reason to detag. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 07:26, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- I'm not sure that substituting an equally lame rationale for the original lame rationale is much of a defense.
- Also, I see that you still have the re-created userbox on your user page: will you remove it now, or does there have to be yet another MFD? --Calton | Talk 09:27, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- What is on my user page is not a template or user box. In the past my user page was protected to prevent easy vandalism of it, and some were blocked because of their behaviour (not by me though). Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:29, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- Well, it did start with "{{userbox"... No idea why you added the line about "some were blocked because of their behaviour" line, perhaps for the chilling effect, but in the end it is all sophistry and stonewalling. I have removed the userbox from your user page, I'ld suggest you start a DRV if you want these userboxes to be acceptable once again. Fram (talk) 12:18, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
- What is on my user page is not a template or user box.
- You have GOT to be kidding me: this is the line you're going to try to peddle? It is NOT a user box only in the ludicrously technical rationale that you didn't use a template, you hard-coded it. And the ONLY reason I didn't remove it directly was to give you the chance to do the right thing -- which you failed to do -- so save the veiled threats. --Calton | Talk 12:57, 28 September 2020 (UTC)

Declined CSDs
[edit]Hi Graeme,
Hope you're well. I'm just leaving a message to query two of the three G11 declines you made.
For reference, in order of CSD application, I'm talking about:
The second and third declines are the ones I want to ask about.
On the second one, you said in the linked edit summary this has been around for 13 years, so no speedy delete, use prod or afd
. As I've been off-wiki for a while, I re-checked Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion and it doesn't seem that longevity of an article exempts it from speedy deletion.
On the third one, you said in the linked edit summary Spam delete declined, there are lots of earlier versions to revert to if required
. It is correct that speedy deletion is only applicable if all revisions fulfil a speedy deletion criterion, however I am struggling to find a revision of the article in question which is not blatantly promotional.
I fully accept that CSD is meant for unambiguous cases and that, especially when it comes to what constitutes salvageable material, a lot of ambiguity can arise, however in order to improve my tagging in future I thought it would be useful to get your perspective in more detail on these declines. I've followed your advice of using a PROD on the second one and applied it to all three because in each case, after having examined the sources in more depth and their previous revisions, I've concluded that aside from the evident promotional problems the articles exhibit, none of them appear to meet the relevant notability guidelines.
Many thanks,
SITH (talk) 13:01, 29 September 2020 (UTC)
- @StraussInTheHouse: For me to delete for a G11 reason, the tone of the article must be promotional throughout. Otherwise if there is only a small amount of promotion, it could be removed easily by editing. This may result in a different opinion as to whether promotion is "blatant". For articles that have been around a long time, if many different people have edited it in the past and failed to notice the promotion, then it is probably not so promotional as to be speedy deleted. Sometimes if I think that the topic of the page looks good I will decline a G11 and remove some promotional text. We also have the problem that many that put in an article, do so for promotion. But if they are skilled in writing, they can avoid promotional tone and pufferry and yet have a biased article. For example there can be articles that talk about a company's leadership, philanthropy, awards and products that are obviously intended to promote the company, but are not G11 material, as all they need is balance, and removal of overemphasis on unencyclopedic content. In the last week I have deleted quite a few pages for G11 reasons. One issue that casued a dispute, that you can read above, is where a page with very little content, eg a just a name, personal weblink or phone number, appears. Is that a spam if it is a sandbox or draft? If on a userpage it would be acceptable. As a draft I have deleted some of these as test-pages, as the writer did not really intend to make an article. Possible disruptive edition in Proxima Centauri c
[edit]Hello. I was wondering whether you could please check this wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Proxima_Centauri_c I edited it saying the exoplanet is still a candidate, but one user (SevenSpheresCelestia) keeps saying the exoplanet was confirmed. As you can see, he only provides 1 source (which is just a research note), and for an exoplanet to be confirmed, it has to be officially confirmed but at least 2 different peer-reviewed papers. I don't want to reverse his edit, because we haven't reached consensus in the Talk page. I think the page he did under a different name (ConnallES) should be kept, but I would say that it's better to call Proxima c a candidate or unconfirmed exoplanet because only 1 author says it's confirmed and all the other recent papers (from this year) still call it a candidate not confirmed.

Querying Your CSD Decline
[edit]Following this you declined because it wasn’t blatantly promotional, fair enough, but addendum you included was that the article was “unsubmitted” Now, if or not an article is submitted or unsubmitted, a G11 would still apply regardless if it is blatantly promotional. I just thought to let you know this as the G, in G11 means General & applies across all spectrums. Thank you for your time. Celestina007 (talk) 18:27, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
- Yeah, I was describing the AFC state of the article. If it was submitted then it could get a reject as promotional. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:14, 7 October 2020 (UTC)
Hi Graeme Bartlett. Just letting you know I've deleted this file and others you've declined. Normally I would agree with you, but the uploader is currently the subject of a CCI and has admitted they are unsure about the copyright statuses of their uploads. [edit]You are invited to join the discussion at Talk:Nicole Couch § Infobox image. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:11, 1 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hi Graeme. I know you've already tried to sort this out per User talk:Philip H Taylor#Unspecified source/license for File:Nicole Couch.jpeg and I'm not trying to step on your toes or anything like that, but I think the best thing here would be OTRS verification. The actual source given for the file is Facebook, not the label's website, and even though the images are practically the same one is in color and one isn't. The provenance of the file isn't very clear at all and even being generous in assuming good faith still leaves a lot of unknowns that I think would lead to problems on Commmons (which is where a CC-0 licensed file should really be) per c:COM:PCP. If, however, you think my concerns are unwarranted, then I'll respect that and self-revert the npd tag per talk page discussion. However, I think in that case it would be better to change the source of the image and even perhaps replace the BW one with the color one. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:19, 1 November 2020 (UTC)

Draft:Insup Lee - Retry
[edit]Hello, Graeme!
I'm a new contributor to Wikipedia, and still learning the ropes. I drafted an article (Draft:Insup Lee) that utilized some material I had previously written on other websites. I understand now that, even though the material was my own, this type of reuse is not permitted on Wikipedia. I'd like to give it another shot with this information in mind, with more citations and zero instances of plagiarism.
The Draft page says if I want to recreate a page similar to the one that was originally deleted, I should first contact the user that deleted it - that's why I'm reaching out to you. :)
My apologies for the confusion, I'm still learning. Could I try writing this article again?
Precise315 (talk) 03:37, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Precise315: There are a few ways to go on this. The first is to look at WP:Autobiography (which may or may not apply). Secondly I note that copyright is claimed by University of Pennsylvania, so even if you wrote it, perhaps you did it on their behalf, giving over rights to that content to them. A third way to go, if you want to claim to be a particular person in the real world, is the use the WP:OTRS team to send them an email to prove that your Wikipedia logon is who you claim to be. Then content written by the claimed person can be believed to be from them. Given the progress made on the draft, it probably is best to just write it again without copying from any other previous publication. Part of the reason for this, is that this is an encyclopedia with a different purpose to a university biography. I note that https://cps-vo.org/node/33312 has a creative commons 2.5 license. However it is unclear what that is, as there are several different creative commons licenses. Compatible ones are CC-BY, CC-BY-SA-3.0, CC-0. Licenses with -ND or -NC do not permit use on Wikipedia. So if that is your web site, you may relicense under one of the compatible licenses. There is also a standard way to display the license, with a link to the text, a logo and standard abbreviations. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 05:17, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Graeme Bartlett: Thanks for all the advice, I appreciate it. I agree that it would be best to write it again without copying any content, that's definitely my plan for the rewrite. I'll give it another go! Precise315 (talk) 02:37, 18 November 2020 (UTC)
Hey- I am thinking about adding this map [4] to the Geography section on the Russell Islands page you created [5]. Please let me know what you think. Geographyinitiative (talk) 16:33, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Geographyinitiative: The map does look a bit better, but because it is non-free, it is replaceable, and so we should not use it. If you find a commonwealth of Australia map from 1969 or before it will be public domain now. Also much material on ga.gov.au is under a CC-BY license, but with a quick look I couldn't find a map of Russell islands. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:26, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
- Another compatible map is on openstreetmap: https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=12/-9.0726/159.1322 You could add the names found on the map you uploaded, to openstreetmap, and then take a copy of that to use on Wikipedia. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:29, 13 November 2020 (UTC)
Undeletion of Draft:Mint Mobile
[edit]WP:REFUND/G13 gave me a "This page already exists!" notice when I tried to use it to request undeletion, and since I know you have been active in REFUND lately, I figured I would ask here manually for it to be undone. Here's the reason I had entered at the REFUND wizard: I made a small change to the draft a few minutes before it was deleted under CSD criterion G13, as I intended to work on the draft at a later date and I was attempting to "save" it from G13 deletion. I am not the draft's original author, but I believe the article meets GNG. Liz did not see the edit and deleted the page under criterion G13. I would like it restored so I can work on it. Thank you. --Squeeps10 Talk to meMy edits 06:00, 17 November 2020 (UTC)

I am wondering, is there a blank edit of mine underneath this page? can it be restored? Starzoner (talk) 13:55, 21 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Starzoner: this is one of the confusing cases. there were two revisions you wrote: The first was totally blank with an edit summary of "New Page for township in China", and the second revision says: "The Last of Us is an upcoming tv show." These orphaned revision might have come from User:Starzoner/2015. But since they are nothing to do with this topic, I will leave them deleted. Help
[edit]Hello Graeme Bartlett
I'm currently in the process of writing an ANI, but it is my first one and I'm unsure if people believe I have a case. Could you have a look at it?
It has been 2 years since the last ANI against Beyond My Ken, and nothing have changed. BMK continues to break WP:NPOV by making images of "bad people" smaller, arguing glorification, as he continues to believe that default image sizing equals support.[6][7][8][9][10][11] As such, any attempt to get him to stop this has resulted in Bullying[12] and personal attacks.[13][14][15][16][17]
Thanks in advance for the help. Skjoldbro (talk) 10:44, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Skjoldbro: I am no use to help you here, as I have never started a complaint on the drama board. All I know is to read the instructions at the top. Add a new section. Notify the perpetrator on their talk page. Beware of the WP:boomerang. Perhaps the place to talk about it in general is Wikipedia talk:Image use policy. As that policy should cover this situation. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:51, 4 December 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks for the response. I'm going to try at ANI anyways as I believe the user to break civility and core content policies. Skjoldbro (talk) 11:07, 4 December 2020 (UTC)

Regarding Draft:Olivier Mourão
[edit]I have noticed the artist niche of Wikipedia is very rich though I had the wish to contribute in that segment. Olivier Mourão seemed a good candidate to me for inclusion initially so I decided to write an article on him. I have been relying primarily on his website for the information. I gradually came to know about importance of secondary sources and WP:PRIMARY and WP:SECONDARY. I thought with my future researches I will surely get some more information about the artist specially when he had experiences over so many decades (what his website says) but unfortunately I did not find much when I looked up for the same after writing the article. I have reached numerous galleries, museums, achieves and libraries for any probable secondary sources about him but till now I haven't got much. So I think the information about the person lack enough secondary sources and the person is not notable enough for Wikipedia so I have applied previously under CSD G7 as per wikipedia guideline. I have seen some comments recently like these diff1, diff2, diff3 . I have no clue what these comments mean and how the commenters are related with the article. I am again requesting for CSD G7 for the reason already mentioned being the author of the article. I am trying to gather more information on the person and I wish to write the article in a way that meets Wikipedia guidelines adequately (if possible) in future. Samudra Malla (talk) 20:31, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
- I assume that this means that User:Felipe Fanzeres wants this to become an article and has contested your delete request. If he can come up with more sources, that is fine, but if he does nothing then the page will become deleted in 6 months anyway. It is not a harmful page, so I would suggest you give other editors that are interested a chance. Of course writing in the article has to be in English, but sources do not. Draft to Article - Olivier Mourão
[edit]Hello Graeme, I see what you mean. Well, he's an international artist, so i love his art and trying to set his wikipedia article on, so i found a lot of materials in various places, such a beautiful art.I would like your mentoring to add more materials, because I have at least 15 new sources/links to add on his wiki article. Can you mentor me ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Felipe Fanzeres (talk • contribs) 11:54, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
- First step is to sign your talk with ~~~~ since I cannot easily tell who you are. Using the square brackets Draft:Olivier Mourão to get Draft:Olivier Mourão, you can get a link to the page (I hope that is right) Graeme Bartlett (talk) 11:58, 9 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Felipe Fanzeres: I have restored the Draft:Olivier Mourão again. So please get in quick and add your sources - perhaps at the end if you have no text to add yet.
Graeme, i'm sorry for bothering you again, my edition wasn't clear enough to bring the article Online again. Can you help me to edit correctly ? I really want to do the right thing, but i need some help. Felipe Fanzeres (talk) 19:54, 21 December 2020 (UTC)Felipe Fanzeres
- I suggest that you start writing from scratch. Before you only removed text and added tags. But to be a significant author you would have to write some text. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:35, 21 December 2020 (UTC)
Hi Graeme, thank you so much for everything. Well, i see now the point, i'm working with a friend to improve the article again, give me a chance to fix all the issues i've got with this draft. I really want to collaborate with WP and help a lot of people. But before, help me with this Olivier Mourao. Felipe Fanzeres (talk) 00:05, 5 January 2021 (UTC)Felipe Fanzeres
- @Felipe Fanzeres: you still have not recreated Draft:Olivier Mourão. Your first step should be to create the page and add some content. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:35, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
I thought the best option would be to use this Draft that was deleted rather than create a new article. So the best thing to do is to create a new article? Felipe Fanzeres (talk) 21:00, 5 January 2021 (UTC)Felipe Fanzeres
- The reason is that the creator of that draft does not want it there, so it keeps being deleted. But if you create your own writing then that option will not be available to another. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:29, 5 January 2021 (UTC)
Article John Hewson
[edit]This was the main article which has been continually updated by User Celco85 who you banned for 24 hours a couple of days ago for disruptive editing, over the past month or so. In conjunction with User:MarnetteD we had only just cleaned up this article including the covering of a large number of bare URLs within the last hour, after I had reverted another one of Celco85's edits where he had included two unacceptable comments as well as having a new reference which did not work - coded incorrectly. I think the information which is being included is frivolous and unnecessary and are more reason for the two hat notes which another editor has placed on this article in November. Where do we go from here?Fleet Lists (talk) 05:00, 17 December 2020 (UTC)

Question
[edit]Hi,
I wanted to ask about a page though. I recently created Draft:Reservation Dogs, and had noticed in the logs that it was deleted. Is there anything worth retrieving in the deleted edits? Starzoner (talk) 14:42, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
- @Starzoner: there is nothing useful there, only 4 words in total, no infobox, no refs, no punctuation. Your draft is a much better starting point. Merry Christmas to you! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:31, 23 December 2020 (UTC)
- hi Graeme, I'm bacak. Can I ask about Draft:Halloween Ends? Its deleted twice but are there anything worth retrieving/keeping? Starzoner (talk) 15:38, 31 December 2020 (UTC)

Hey there. You rejected my request for undeletion because the previous revision has more textures way beyond PD-simple. How about another release using the same artwork? I see smooth gloss and less texture. Is it free in the US? --George Ho (talk) 22:47, 25 December 2020 (UTC)
- Well this picture has less texture, so perhaps the texture in the earlier uploaded image is artifact. (photographic sensor noise perhaps) However the discogs image has photographed wear and tear on the cover, and copyright would apply to that image. The red text is clearer than the one that was uploaded, but still there are .jpg artifacts. @George Ho: Merry Christmas to you! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:53, 25 December 2020 (UTC)

- Well the text as written by someone with a different username, Nick Hill said: "BitcoinZ is an Bitcoin-like cryptocurrency incorporating ZK-Snark based private transactions. The code is based on a fork of Zcash. The blockchain is not a fork, and began with a new genesis block on 9th September 2017.". Here was a see also section, that is not required in an article like this. Basically we consider anything here to do with digital currencies an advertisement. But to argue about the deletion you must first consult with user talk:Jimfbleak rather than me. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 19:53, 26 December 2020 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Syrp
[edit]If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.
You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Syrp requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.
If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. User:Starzoner
[edit]Hi Graeme Bartlett, I have noticed draft that deleted revisions of Draft:The Greatest Beer Run Ever (film) have been restored, which is not bad of you, what if it is bad is to create a draft, abandon it and then when a user recreates it again, request its restoration, that's exactly what the user Starzoner do. It seems to me totally unnecessary to request restoration of editions that do not even add something new to the existing content. I want to take advantage and let you know about this that happened a couple of days ago and as the user in question is only interested in appearing as the creator of the articles in question. A few days ago I also requested the restoration of deleted editions of Draft:Spencer (film) which was rejected for just reasons. Regards. Bruno Rene Vargas (talk) 00:54, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
I attach this link that confirms my opinion that Starzoner is only interested in "being the first" to create the articles. Bruno Rene Vargas (talk) 01:05, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
- you may want to see the deletion log. It was done so to remove the hoax edits, something that normally reverted and removed on Wikipedia. Starzoner (talk) 12:57, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
- Comment: I did that deletion of hoax. Anyway when restoring stuff I do have to consider whether to bring back other speedy deleted versions that may exist. Also useless history merges should not be performed as selective merges are very labor intensive. So if the current version did not use a draft of the same topic, there is no point in merging. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:34, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
- you may want to see the deletion log. It was done so to remove the hoax edits, something that normally reverted and removed on Wikipedia. Starzoner (talk) 12:57, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
Katrina Spade, are you serious?
[edit]Would this be an encyclopedic character? Wikipedia is not a collection of creatives who propose non-profit projects. The recompose facebook page has 3000 likes, the articles have a ridiculous diffusion, more from gossip than from a project to be seriously considered. Beyond the opinion that one can have about the thing, it is not of an encyclopedic character in itself, as is not the creator. Let's be serious please. Harukanaru (talk) 22:53, 29 January 2021 (UTC)
- You should therefore start an AFD for Katrina Spade. I accept AFC if it has more than 50% chance. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 07:21, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
Help
[edit]Hi! I have no idea how to ask for the DRV of Superkombat Fighting Championship (and also 2018 in SUPERKOMBAT, 2017 in SUPERKOMBAT, 2016 in SUPERKOMBAT, 2015 in SUPERKOMBAT, 2014 in SUPERKOMBAT, 2013 in SUPERKOMBAT, 2012 in SUPERKOMBAT and 2011 in SUPERKOMBAT)
Here are my reasons:
I request the undeletion of Superkombat Fighting Championship (plus all its pages - the years), because a mistake was made back in time. First of all this article had been deleted several times in the past because in the beginning the kickboxing promotion was unknown. And also there was a war on Wikipedia from the MMA "users" against kickboxing, until new regulations.
My reasons are:
1. These are precious info for the history of the sport, SUPERKOMBAT of top promoter Eduard Irimia is considered the 2nd best promotion of Europe all-time after the Netherlands-based It's Showtime. Before it was called Local Kombat (2003-2013). SUPERKOMBAT had headquarters in Bucharest, Romania, but also in London, Las Vegas and New York City.
2. SUPERKOMBAT was named Promotion of the Year in 2011 in front of GLORY (Ultimate Glory), that now is according to the Kickboxing task force "the kickboxing's UFC - World No 1. promotion in the world". Additionally, SUPERKOMBAT was nominated in the top 4 kickboxing promotions of the world.
3. GLORY champions Rico Verhoeven, Alex Pereira and Pavel Zhuravlev competed in SUPERKOMBAT. GLORY title challengers Benjamin Adegbuyi, Daniel Ghiță, Errol Zimmerman, Mladen Brestovac, Anderson Silva, Yousri Belgaroui and Yoann Kongolo competed in SUPERKOMBAT. GLORY tournament winners Ismael Londt and D'Angelo Marshall competed in SUPERKOMBAT. Other top 10 kickboxers in their divisions competed in SUPERKOMBAT: Roman Kryklia (currently #2 heavyweight), Zabit Samedov (current #6 heavyweight), Murat Aygün (current #8 heavyweight), Tarik Khbabez (current #9 heavyweight), Felipe Micheletti (current #8 light heavyweight), Zinedine Hameur-Lain (current #10 light heavyweight), Igor Bugaenko (current #6 middleweight), Jamie Bates (current #5 welterweight) and many more from the past rankings. Several of these are SUPERKOMBAT products, it is proved that no other promotion has been feeding GLORY like SUPERKOMBAT.
4. SUPERKOMBAT is not on Wikipedia, but even regional kickboxing promotions are allowed, such as King in the Ring, W5, Global Fighting Championship and more. Just saying, make justice for SUPERKOMBAT.
5. SUPERKOMBAT had received coverage from the largest European newspapers such as MARCA, Gazeta Sporturilor etc. It had a contract with the most known sports European channel Eurosport and also with CBS Sports in the United States of America. SUPERKOMBAT's official YouTube channel has fights with over 1 million views.
6. SUPERKOMBAT was still deleted, although 5 people said to Keep it and 3 to Delete it (4 with the nominator). The nominator Jayjg STRANGELY retired later from Wikipedia.
—.karellian-24 (talk) 17:33, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
- Because there was a discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Superkombat Fighting Championship, there should be a discussion to reverse that decision. It is not that strange to retire. People have lives outside Wikipedia. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:37, 6 February 2021 (UTC)
- What you do is add this wikitext to https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia:Deletion_review/Log/2021_February_7&action=edit&preload=Wikipedia:Deletion_review/New_day
~~~~
- I have picked your strongest argument as the reason, It would be best to find the links to prove the coverage, as it would prove WP:GNG if true. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 05:23, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks a lot! I really appreciate, buddy! —.karellian-24 (talk) 22:08, 7 February 2021 (UTC)
and
- 2018 in SUPERKOMBAT to 2018 in Superkombat
- 2017 in SUPERKOMBAT to 2017 in Superkombat
- 2016 in SUPERKOMBAT to 2016 in Superkombat
- 2015 in SUPERKOMBAT to 2015 in Superkombat
- 2014 in SUPERKOMBAT to 2014 in Superkombat
- 2013 in SUPERKOMBAT to 2013 in Superkombat
- 2012 in SUPERKOMBAT to 2012 in Superkombat
- 2011 in SUPERKOMBAT to 2011 in Superkombat
The other admin said so, per WP:MOSCAPS and WP:MOSTM.
Hi Graeme. Since you've edited this file's page before here, maybe you can figure out what's going on. If Wikipedia has an equivalent to c:COM:OVERWRITE or c:COM:SPLIT, then this would likely qualify. It looks like the uploader is trying to update File:Bigg Boss Malayalam 2 poster.jpg, but instead uploaded it as an updated version of this. The problem (if it's a problem) is the the older version appears to have been intended solely for List of Bigg Boss (Malayalam TV series) episodes, whereas the newer version seems to have been intended for Bigg Boss (Malayalam TV series). The file is going to be tagged for removal from the main series article by JJMC89 Bot per WP:NFCC#10c if a rationale isn't provided for that particular use. I don't know anything about the show and have no idea if the new logo is correct since the non-free use rationale wasn't updated when the file was updated. Any suggestions on what to do here? -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:35, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks for taking a look at this Graeme. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:10, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- OK I have split the images to two files File:Bigg Boss Malayalam poster.jpg, and File:Bigg Boss Malayalam poster 3.jpg. Marchjuly can you use them appropriately and fix FURS as needed? We also need a source! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 05:16, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- I'm not the uploader; so, I don't know where the file came from. I'll post a note on the uploader's page. -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:38, 15 February 2021 (UTC)
- I posted a message about this on the uploader's user talk page; so, perhaps they will clarify the source of the file. Now, I'm wondering if you'd mind taking a look at File:Manfred Lindner.jpg, which is similar case of file overwriting. This file is being discussed at Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2021 February 15#File:Manfred Lindner.jpg and both versions might actually be subject to WP:F9; so, perhaps there's no point to spliting the file. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:43, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, best to await discussion about whether any will be kept. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 04:13, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
- I'm having a hard time finding the exact source for File:Bigg Boss Malayalam poster.jpg. The uploader has yet to respond to my query about the source, and I'm only able to find similar images like this online. Do you think this file needs to be tagged for speedy deletion per WP:F4? -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:23, 23 February 2021 (UTC)
- Yes, best to await discussion about whether any will be kept. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 04:13, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
Phenoxyacetic acid
[edit]Hi Graeme
There is a draft article Draft:Phenoxyacetic Acid that has been awaiting review since it was created by a new editor last December. I have commented on their talk page User talk:Danidq1 that it has a large number of errors and would be better if its useful portions (e.g. the Chembox) were merged to Phenoxy herbicide. However, after a week the user has not responded to my comments. It would be helpful if you could formally decline the draft and suggest next steps. Thanks. Mike Turnbull (talk) 16:50, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
- I note that you decided to accept the draft after you had tidied up some of the worst problems. I've also taken another look today and made further, hopefully constructive, changes. Mike Turnbull (talk) 17:19, 17 February 2021 (UTC)
[edit]Hi Graeme. I hope you are doing well. I first went to WP:REFUND, but I couldnt be sure if it was appropriate for U1 deletions, and you were the most active admin there. I had requested U1 of User:Usernamekiran/sandbox/National Photographic Interpretation Center couple of years ago. Would you kindly email me the content of that page? —usernamekiran (talk) 21:07, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
- Done @Usernamekiran: I have restored the page and removed the U1 tagging. U1s can be reversed at WP:REFUND. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:31, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
A serious Wikipedia please.
[edit]Hello, some time ago some editors created a draft and the administrators when it was ready took it to the main space. The article is collected by reputable and serious institutions such as The Library of Congress of the United States, which it takes as a permanent link and reference. (So far so good). But surprise after some time, the same editors and administrators delete the wikipedia article in English. This page should not be speedily deleted because... This page should not be speedily deleted because... CSD G4 Exclude pages that are not substantially identical to the deleted version, pages to which the reason for the deletion no longer applies. Correct fonts are added. It can be frustrating for a reader to come to English Wikipedia in search of information and discover that the relevant article existed at one point, but has been removed. This can put off both readers and Wikipedia authorship. Removing this article from the English Wikipedia would seriously damage Wikipedia's authorship. This article is taken as a reference and permanent link in sites and institutions as relevant and important as the Library of Congress of the United States: 18, or the SNAC service, a service for the discovery of authors found within archival funds of cultural heritage institutions where its Sponsors are The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, Institute for Museum and Library Services National Endowment for the Humanities, and its hosts from the National Archives and Records Administration of the University of Virginia Library. The deletion of this article would damage the English wikipedia to the detriment of this Wikipedia, without taking into account that this is a guide and not a rule and that there may be exceptions and it is possible that some academics do not meet any of these criteria, but they can still stand out for their academic work. If the depth of coverage at a given source is not substantial, several independent sources can be combined to demonstrate visibility. People who meet the basic criteria can be considered remarkable without meeting the additional criteria. A common axiom is that "AFD is not cleanliness." Wikipedia is a work in progress and articles should not be removed because no one has felt like cleaning them up yet. Remember, Wikipedia has no deadline. If there is good and accessible content in the article, it should be preserved, developed and improved, not removed. Wikipedia's policy of trying to correct problems in articles by editing improvements, expanding, and adding trusted sources, found in Trying to fix problems, is often more appropriate than removing articles entirely. The article provides enough content of relevant importance. I hope someone with common sense like you, does something about it and reissues the article. - Are you being paid to produce this page on Xabier Lezama or Patxi Xabier Lezama Perier? And are you the same person that used user:Ridership? Check out WP:Paid if this applies. You mention a problem for archives and libraries. If they store a link to a page, they should also seriously consider taking a copy of the page and its complete history, as they have been granted to permission to do so. It does not surprise me that fewer and fewer edits are being made and more and more of us are leaving wikipedia because of incoherent administrators who become entangled in rules that are only guides and not laws, in which they only care about their ego and status although what they do is to the detriment of wikipedia. Alarm. SOS. Wikipedia needs editors
After ten years of life, the internet encyclopedia prepares its first revolution. Given the decline in its editors, Wikipedia launches a strategy to attract new collaborators and make its access system more flexible. Founder Jimmy Wales publicly acknowledged a few weeks ago: the millions of volunteers who write the various articles are dwindling. It is difficult to find new editors and those who were present, leave. The data, which refer to the English version, show that writing for Wikipedia is not as attractive as it used to be. It is a fact that the number of contributions goes down. While in the contributions of free software - such as the Debian operating system, based on GNU / Linux - volunteers, in general, usually participate for about 7 years, in the case of Wikipedia on average they contribute during a year, but then they leave it. Why? by the so-called librarians, who are too fiscal who overdo their task. In various discussion forums on the net you can find some complaints like the ones below.
"I have spent hours editing an article to fill in the gaps that there were, and it turns out that a vigilante deleted all my links in 15 seconds" (Superpeich). “They always deleted me or ended up blocking my IP, as if I were a terrorist. As long as the rules do not change and full powers are given to some who believe themselves to be the owners and masters of the articles, I will not participate again ”(Zcullyx). “One of the reasons why I decided to stop being a Wikipedian after several years was, apart from lack of time, the apathy that exists in there. There are very stupid hierarchical levels and an egotism and pride that fills you with impotence ”(Amanditita).
According to a study by Wikipedia itself, 43% of users acknowledged that they had, in some cases, modified articles without explanation or added inappropriate material to a text that was written (39%). A report from the Xerox PARC research center in Palo Alto (California) estimates that, on average, a quarter of the contributions of volunteers are erased by the hard core of librarians, considering that they do not meet the encyclopedia requirements. To summarize this disagreement between editors and administrators, there is already talk of "edition war". A hard core Wikipedian has been created. Wales himself admitted it.
- Actually I am a bit of an inclusionist wanting to keep more pages. Or to keep additions of text where possible. I think you will get more interaction by having this discussion on WP:Village pump (miscellaneous). Graeme Bartlett (talk) 07:53, 2 March 2021 (UTC)
- Graeme, again, we went through this whole business when the article was at the other title. See the history of that page. There are no independent reliable sources. I wrote to the most-reliable looking one, and it turned out to be a paid ad, written by an author with an English name who was writing from Bulgaria. When someone explained at the AfD that there are no RS, you replied "Should be easy to prove it is worthy of deletion then." What do you expect people to do? SarahSV (talk) 02:04, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
There are enough independent secondary sources and Sources are NOT generated or paid for by stakeholders. That argument you used previously is completely false and I propose one thing, let's contact the sources by email and they will answer you the truth. A question Possibly, your friend keeps allowing you SarahSV, keep creating "articles" like Alice Sakitnak Akammak, that are just dictionary definitions and add them as articles. You have dozens and dozens of articles (definitions) of Inuit artists, where their only notoriety and references are to be in The Museum of Inuit art where the works were acquired from the various Inuit cooperatives and all of them were exhibited in the affiliated museums of the The Association of Canadian Museums, Canadian Information Heritage and Virtual Museum of Canada closed its doors on May 29, 2016, following a decline in visitors and revenue. Arguing NOTORIETY of those "artists" that the works were acquired from the various Inuit cooperatives, is incoherent, but your girlfriend SarahSV lets you and allows it and does not put you any difficulty with notoriety , references, nor does it tell you that wikipedia is not a dictionary of definitions. Incredible but true.--85.84.33.17 (talk) 00:55, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
- This is Graeme Bartlett's talk page. It's not a place to air your general grievances, which I see are a match for those of Sorginak. Take your complaints to the article talk page or the AFD.--- Possibly (talk) 01:03, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Wikipedia is not a dictionary and articles without any content like yours that only say: "Inuit artist, his work (of course) is in the Inuit museum" and associates. Not relevant, lacks encyclopedic interest and should be deleted. (Indian-American art is also in the Indian-American museum and associates). Possibly those editors "friends of yours" so "professional" should tell you, the incredible thing is that they allow you to remove it from the draft without any impediment to the main page. Friends of my friends are my friends right?. I will put this topic on your user page, as is normal since it is the right place.--85.84.33.17 (talk) 09:44, 3 March 2021 (UTC)
Meghna Patel
[edit]Hi Graeme. I've got a question about the Old AfD multi template you added to Talk:Meghna Patel. Please understand that I'm not questioning the REFUND; I'm just curious about some things. The actual close to the AFD that led to the article's deletion was "Soft delete", which isn't really the same as "Keep"; so, I'm just wondering why whether it would be better to clarify that in the AFD template. For example, "Soft delete, but eligible for restoration per WP:REFUND" or something like that accompanied by a link to the REFUND request. Perhaps the "Old Afd multi" template isn't set up to handle such a thing, but it seems that for the most part this is basically a WP:DEPROD and a deprod can be indicated in the template Old prod using the |con=
parameter. In the case of a deprod, the same page cannot be prodded again. How do things work in the case of a soft delete via AfD? Can a soft-deleted article which is subsequently restored be AfD'd a second time? If that's the case, then instead of a soft delete it seems as if it might have been better to relist the discussion at least once. Again, I'm just curious about this kind of thing as I'm trying to get a better feel as to how AfD's work. -- Marchjuly (talk) 14:28, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
- @Marchjuly: I have changed the old prod, as the result was not keep. I should have made this clear! It was included in the edit summary. A soft delete restore can be counted as a prod challenge. So the page should not be subsequently prod'ed. Instead a full AFD would be needed. A restored page can be AfD'd a second time, and is probably a good idea. A second time around it should not be soft deleted again, but as you say relisted and left open till there is a definite result. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:44, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
Extreme-ultraviolet Stellar Characterization for Atmospheric Physics and Evolution page
[edit]Hi,
I used the contest deletion but it seems not to have worked. I am the Deputy Project Scientist of the ESCAPE mission. We posted the information on the lasp.colorado.edu/home/cusp/escape page as well as here. It's not copyright infringement. We are the authors and are aiming to spread the information about the mission wider as well as make wikipedia more complete in much the same way that you find wikipedia pages for nearly all other NASA satellite missions that leverage a lot of the same content you can find on NASA's webpages as well. I see that the page did get deleted. Is it possible to restore it? I don't have a local copy of the final edits and I'm not super familiar with wikipedia so I haven't seen if I have a copy somewhere of the final version before it was deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jmason86 (talk • contribs) 16:49, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
- Hi @Jmason86: On Wikipedia we cannot tell if you own the copyright or are just pretending to. For example the page you linked to claims "© 2021 Regents of the University of Colorado". So are you acting on behalf of University of Colorado? Or is University of Colorado making a false claim? To provide proof that you do own the copyright here are two ways to do it. First you can out the CC-BY-SA-3.0 or CC-BY-4.0 license on all the web pages that get copied. Or secondly you can send an email to the OTRS team see WP:OTRS. I will see if I can email you the final copy. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 20:37, 23 March 2021 (UTC)
- Hi @Graeme Bartlett: Done! I contacted OTRS and they pointed me to this page. I followed the instructions there and if you check lasp.colorado.edu/home/cusp/escape, you'll see we have the copyright release statement on the page now. I received your email with the source code for the page in its final form; is my next step then to recreate the page from that source or is there some kind of un-delete feature available in Wikipedia I don't know about? Hi, Graeme Bartlett. I saw that you recently reviewed the article History of the Jews in Hull, and as a highly experienced editor and an administrator, I was hoping you could help out with an ongoing issue between me, Rocknrollmancer, and the article's creator. I'll give you a summary of this issue thus far:
The article's creator is Philip Sugarman, who appears to be a member of Kingston upon Hull's community and generously spent hundreds of hours meticulously preparing this article in order to contribute it to Wikipedia. The amount of research they did is, in my opinion, staggering, and their sources overall are quite good. Good-faith, passionate work like this about notable subjects reminds me why I enjoy this project so much to begin with. However, as Sugarman is a new editor and as the article is quite expansive, it does have a few issues pertaining to Wikipedia's style and guidelines. Because of this, I placed four issue tags on the article, and I provided an explanation on the talk page for why I placed each one. As this editor has invested so much time, however, this fairly routine issue tagging came across as an insult and a sign that their work isn't welcome, with changes to the article being seen as intrusive and as being made by uninvolved outsiders. Sugarman removed the issue tags, but these were reinstated shortly thereafter by Rocknrollmancer. Discussion then ensued on the talk page.
Even though things got off to a sour start, I feel new editors like this are the lifeblood of the project, and while I strongly believe those four issue tags should stay up (and that at least one of them has to), I also want to avoid biting and demoralizing a good-faith editor over missteps many of us made in our first articles too. At the same time, however, while I would normally be able to volunteer and step in to fix these issues myself, the article's length, the complexity of some of these issues, the subject matter being far outside my area of expertise, and the possibility of this being seen as an affront to Sugarman's work make this not really feasible for me to do.
I was hoping you might have a silver tongue we could borrow for a few minutes so that the three of us can reach an understanding. TheTechnician27 (Talk page) 07:40, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
Urgent! I need your help!!
[edit]Dear Graeme Bartlett
My name is Emily Chen, I am an editor of Wikipedia and a graduate student at SFSU. I am contacting you because there is a serious problem with a wiki editor (BUBBAJOE1333456)who has been vandalizing a certain wikipage (LUKE BRUGNARA) for two years. Specifically, BUBBAJOE123456 has rewritten this page in its entirety with slanderous/prejudiced/unbalanced edits against LUKE BRUGNARA while deleting and banning editors that try to restore the page, or re-edit the wikipage to a balanced representation of LUKE BRUGNARA (this wiki page has been nearly unchanged for over five years until BUBBAJOE123456 attacked/vandalized this wikupage on March 1, 2019, and systematically blocking/banning any attempts to correct it).
Obvious SLANDEROUS errors on LUKE BRUGNARA's page include the FALSE STATEMENT in the opening paragraph and heading that LUKE BRUGNATA is imprisoned..This is FALSE, as Brugnsra was released from prison in November 2020 (see BOP.gov inmate locator - Luke brugnara: released Nov. 24,. 2020)....other vandalization includes deleting references to Dr. Carlo Pedtetti affirming Brugnata's DaVinci is by Leonardo daVinci ,(see FORBES Drc 3003; see Wikipedia page on daVinci)...
In summation, my edits from today are very accurate, and cited and balanced..BUBBAJOE123456 deleted all of my edits and restored false/sla detous statements about Luke Brugnata because he is apparently a personal enemy of Brugnara; or simply a problematic person who uses Wikipedia to harm/sla der others..notwithstanding, I request that you restore my CORRECTIONS/EDITS from today and ban BUBBAJOE123456 from Luke Brugnara's page and lock the existing edits from further vandalization..Thank you.
hydrocarbonate
[edit]Hi Graeme Bartlett,
I noticed your recommendation to merge Water Gas with Hydrocarbonate (gas). Considering these are synonyms from a certain chemistry perspective, I certainly understand the suggestion. It appears others have suggested to merge Water Gas with Syngas as well.
I would offer a different perspective to recommend against merging these pages. While the topics of Water Gas, Syngas and Hydrocarbonate (gas) are similar since they are nearly identical gas mixtures of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, the applications are quite different. IMO, it would become a page about the mixture of carbon monoxide and hydrogen, which would have three vastly different subcategories. The name water gas would probably need to be re-evaluated if we proceed this route.
I briefly expanded upon the hydrocarbonate (gas) page to better articulate its unique importance. No doubt, the page is a stub and requires a ton of work. If a stand alone page is not welcome, to offer an alternative, perhaps hydrocarbonate (gas) should be merged with carbon monoxide and become a historical paragraph within that page?
Restoration of Jebra Kambole Draft
[edit]Hello
I requested the restoration of the draft and it is true that you once restored the same and I did nothing. The reason why I appear to do nothing is because I am failing to Publish it.
I want to publish the page as it is (though recently, there is a developed information about the referred person) but when I publish it doesn't go online that's why it remain as a draft.
Please restore it and if possible help me to know how to publish the same.
STARR Restaurants
[edit]Hi! Know it's AWB and not you personally, but do you know if there's a way to program AWB to ignore Hybird here. I just tried sourcing the spelling, but not sure if that will help our semi-robot overlords. Thanks! StarM 21:36, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- I just have to press skip, if I think it is spelled correctly. But sometimes I am wrong. One way is the add the [sic] label after the unexpected spelling, then humans will know it is OK. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:43, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
- Good to know, thanks! Will try that this go around. I mostly "fault" them for the creative naming. Wonder how many times it was autocorrected in its short life. Thanks! StarM 21:47, 8 April 2021 (UTC)
Attacks against a specific editor
[edit]I've left a Uw-npa2 at User talk:Philip Sugarman#Attacks against a specific editor - as is my good right - due to the content when canvassing third-party TPs of Bkissin and TheTechnician27, and where you have been accoladed as a "grandmaster editor". Note, considering two Teahouse volunteer/reviewers, it's disappointing that no guidance on NPA, etc has been arranged and left for Philip Sugarman by someone non-INVOLVED . This is level 2 (not 1) because:
1. Canvassing at two different TPs, specifically alleging racial overtones and with further, later messages
2. Inappropriate edit summaries of the messages
3. Complete lies, and furthermore synthesis with verbatim copied text from a SPI presented out-of-context (falsely stating it to be from my Talk page), where the sockmistress (17 confirmed, others inconclusive) has ranted in a 2020 sustained onslaught against me, resulting in an admin stating at my TP: "I'm sorry that you came under such sustained abuse."
4. General escalation of hostility, starting with resentful edit summaries
Per AGF I will surmise that you did not know of this, and I will allow you the option of finding the posts where you will see "trolled by a clever self-justfying bully", "Nazi", "left wing MPs", "gets in dispute with left wingers", "spills out onto twitter" "dying Jewish community" and "stick the boot in". FYI, I don't do politics or Twitter.
All of this has escalated, starting with Philip Sugarman's series of reactive rebukes in article edit summaries, furthered at the article's Talk postings, through where TheTechnician27 invoked your name/presence and culminating in attacks when canvassing.
From this barracking, I will conclude that Philip Sugarman is clearly a volatile individual and needs to be firmly appraised of WP Policy on NPA. S/he may have formed the opinion that you, in some way, control or intimidate me and are acting as a champion against me, and clearly wants to freeze me out of the article when I was trying to help the newbie learn the correct editing techniques early on so as to avoid compounding the mistakes.
All of my edits and edit summaries have been on-point, precise, concise, courteous and in accordance with WP standards. In anticipation of any possible new onslaught against me, and as you are INVOLVED, can I politely request your recusal from any further dealings with the situation and/or article?
If you believe I have transgressed any Policy or Guidleline, or that newbie/bite trumps policy on NPA, will you please file at AN/I where others can consider the unsavoury invective and determine any outcome. I am specifically requesting you (or any others) do not revdel under RD3. I have purposely delayed matters from March and there is no boomerang. I want to end these unfounded accusations hanging over me. Thank you.--Rocknrollmancer (talk) 23:42, 11 April 2021 (UTC)
- Hi, I am not sure what you are really trying to say to me here. Do you want me to be involved or not? I am not watching any of the articles or users you mention, so I was not aware of anything you describe above. My apparent involvement in this was to remove a tag from History of the Jews in Hull that you added. Anyway, I seldom will bring anything up at AN/I as that is usually inviting more comments and can cause more trouble than the original issue. So please stay calm as well, and do some article improvement if you are able. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 04:40, 12 April 2021 (UTC)
Your draft article, Draft:Inverse chirp Z-transform
[edit]Hello, Graeme Bartlett. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Inverse chirp Z-transform".
In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been deleted. If you plan on working on it further and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.
Drafts by Silverwingsband98
[edit]Hi Graeme, I see you restored three drafts that were requested by the editor Silverwingsband98 on 3 April [22], [23], [24]. I've been watching this editor's contributions for a while now, because these three "albums", and all their other drafts, are completely fictitious. Apart from these three fake Oasis albums, they've also been creating fake Beatles albums (e.g. Draft:Imagine (The Beatles album), supposedly from 1971, the year after the Beatles split, and closer inspection of the track listing will show the songs are from various members' solo albums) and seem to have moved on to fake Queen albums (Draft:The Miracle at Wembley – supposedly recorded in 1989 but Mercury's last ever live performance with the band was in August 1986, the "album cover" photo clearly isn't Wembley, and if you zoom in on the picture it isn't Freddie Mercury on stage either... this looks like they've found a stock photo of a Queen tribute band from the internet and added their own lettering). It seems they are creating drafts of fantasy "dream" albums by their favourite groups, making composite track listings from their favourite tracks from existing real albums. Obviously they have no intention of ever publishing them in mainspace, because they'd instantly get speedily deleted as hoaxes, and which is why the six-month draft period lapsed, because they have to remain permanently in draftspace.
I'm baffled by these drafts, and politely asked them on their talk page why they were doing so, but they ignored my message and removed it without reply [25]. The same thing happened when an admin tried asking the same question [26]. I'm reluctant to take them to ANI, because technically they haven't vandalised mainspace at all, and they aren't causing any major problems. But it does mean they are likely to keep coming back to WP:REFUND on a regular basis to keep their drafts alive, so if nothing is done, you're going to see their requests over and over again. Richard3120 (talk) 02:15, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
- One option, @Richard3120: is to list them as a group at MFD. But we not notice if they are later re-created. They could also just be sandboxes of the user outside of AFC, then they would get less wasteful attention. But a DB-G5 may apply for not related to Wikipedia. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 07:47, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
- Thanks, MfD is a good suggestion. I'll keep an eye on it – they'll have another batch of drafts coming up for expiry at the beginning of June, and I expect they'll ask for restoration there again. Richard3120 (talk) 12:34, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
- So use MFD when the drafts are visible, otherwise it will not run far. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:37, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
Draft:5-Methyl-2-((2-nitrophenyl)amino)-3-thiophenecarbonitrile
[edit]Hi Graeme
I've just submitted Draft:5-Methyl-2-((2-nitrophenyl)amino)-3-thiophenecarbonitrile through AfC. I would have put it straight into Main Space but I was uncertain about the title. The problem is that the correct IUPAC name uses [] brackets which are not supported (although there may be a work-around for that I'm not aware of) and the alternative obvious title of "ROY" is too ambiguous, so might need to be "ROY (chemical compound)". Can you help out here — I'm sure you'll agree the material is WP:N? I'll expand the article further once it is accepted. Thanks. Mike Turnbull (talk) 14:59, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
- I added a hatnote, but there may well be a template to do that. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:52, 7 May 2021 (UTC)
Must see once
[edit]Hello @Graeme Bartlett:, I want to make Emiway Bantai. I tried once before to create an article Emiway Bantai (Indian rapper), but it was deleted, which probably would not have passed GNG at that time. Then I found a Machayenge article from Emiway on Wiki. When I checked that article, it turned out that it was created by CptViraj. He is also an NPR. When I talked to him about this, he said that he was previously associated with this subject. So now he does not want to make it. Then I saw their sandbox which was made to make User:CptViraj/sandbox/Emiway Bantai. Recently I have prepared an article on their sandbox. Therefore, I will ask you to review it. Since its main title is Protected by the Administrator, I will ask you to move it to Emiway. Must see once. Thank you 2402:3A80:10CA:7818:C024:C6CC:B8CC:5E1E (talk) 10:28, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
- To get a review, add the template. To unprotect the title, ask user:Discospinster who salted the title. User:CptViraj/sandbox/Emiway Bantai could be moved to draft space, but that is not something you can do. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Emiway Bantai applies, so any issue there should be address in a new article. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:23, 9 May 2021 (UTC)
Refund request Janet Burleson
[edit]Hi Graeme,
Thankyou for your refund of Draft:Donald K. Burleson (DKB). For once I forgot to request the refund the talk at the same time but in the event the refund of the talk page was of interest and use. In the process of restoring DKB it has become apparent his wife Janet way be more notable in relation to Miniature/Guide Horses, especially with information which has come to light since 2019. Can I therefore request a REFUND to draft of the deleted Janet Burleson article to draft along with its talk page. The delete was under A7 so I would expect to have to clean up. (I have realised the deleting admin Scott MacDonald (then under a different name of (Doc glasgow) ) is still very occasionally active but I have allowed them 48hrs per standard practice before making this request ). Thankyou. Djm-leighpark (talk) 23:43, 19 May 2021 (UTC)
- Draftified – the page has been restored to the draft space at Draft:Janet Burleson. @Djm-leighpark: There was no talk. The deleted image was from here: http://www.rampant-books.com/images/Janet4.jpg , but IFD was claimed to be reason for delete. see User talk:Rampanttech, I cannot see it in the discussion Wikipedia:Files for deletion/2007 February 10. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 23:56, 19 May 2021 (UTC)
- Thankyou. The additional information is also relevant. The books are relevant, though all are effectively SPS. The horse trainer category is probably relevant. I will be treating all claims in the article as COI/edit requests, though much is citable. The image information is also useful. Thankyou.Djm-leighpark (talk) 01:38, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
Trying to restore a deleted page May 22
[edit]I am new to Wikipedia (as a page creator) and I noticed that you had indicated that my creation may have been removed due to 'prejudice' - could you clarify? I have followed the procedure to contest the deletion. To the best of my ability (at this stage). Best regards Clumie (talk) 16:03, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hi @Clumie:, that means that I would vote for it to be deleted. "Without prejudice" means that it could be recreated according to policy without any objection from me. My note was nothing to do with you, but for the Eric de Broche des Combes article created by Evatucek. So unless you are the same person as Evatucek, that text was not for you. But if you two are the same person, that may be a problem. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:40, 22 May 2021 (UTC)
I am just seeking clarification. I am certainly not the same person, I am Lucy S Johnson, I created this account over a decade a go using a nick name, I seek to publish the Michelle Baharier page according to the guidelines and would be grateful for any assistance/advice as it is my first page.
- @Clumie: There appears to be a page called Draft:Michelle Baharier that is not yet deleted. Remember that this is an encyclopedia, and not an advertising platform. And if you are being paid to write, this must be disclosed. The page Michelle Baharier was deleted as advertising, and it is very similar to the draft, so that could be deleted as well for the same reason. If you get in quick and make the tone more factual and less puffery, there is chance it will not be deleted. Puffery includes "was instrumental" "came to prominence" "featured" "one of an 'exceptional' group" "Throughout her working life she has sought" "positive impact" "ensuring her continuing notability" "campaigns actively". Settling into my new role at REFUND
[edit]Hi, Graeme Bartlett! Today was my debut at WP:REFUND :) I am still in the process of rereading all the deletion related guidelines, but empirical learning has always been more effective for me, so the ice has been broken. I wanted to ask if you could help me by pointing out some details in my work (even if minor) and sometimes answering my questions? I would also highly appreciate some insights or small but important tips from you. Looking at the next request to restore this draft here, how many times undeletion is considered appropriate? The user has not edited the draft since the last request has been satisfied. Is there any rule of thumb here? Thank you in advance. Less Unless (talk) 21:14, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- @Less Unless: for this situation, if the requestor is different to the last time, or they give a good excuse then I would restore. Also for a couple of users that just do too much like FloridaArmy or Taku, I would restore. Otherwise there is a to ask a question: "Declined pending further information. This was undeleted over six months ago with a pledge that it would be worked on, but no edits were made to improve the entry for resubmission. Articles for creation is not an indefinite hosting service for material found to be unsuitable for inclusion in the encyclopedia's article mainspace. We may be willing to restore it again, but only if you provide a definite assurance that you actually intend to work on it and provide a short description of what you intend to do to improve it to meet our policies and guidelines. Please advise." Most users don't come back with an answer, but if they do, then I would restore. Some just like to have the draft hanging around without doing any editing at all.
- G7 can be overturned, but watch out for those that apply G7 again, that deletion request should not be honoured, as at least one person wants to keep it. So you can go back through the request list, and see what page links have changed back to red after restore, though most are valid deletions or moves. Sometimes requestors change their mind about keeping the page once you restore, and you can redelete, ie reverse your undelete. Sometimes there is information about children that should not be in public view. In which case don't restore, and you should email the oversighters.
- Your decline of Ariana_Nabaey looked good to me so you are now the "honorable director of Wikipedia"! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:44, 27 May 2021 (UTC)
- Hi! It's me again. I would like to ask you about this request. The user page seems fine (meaning it's not deleted) to me even though the log states it was deleted. Can you take a look at it and explain me what needs to be done in such cases. Thank you in advance! Less Unless (talk) 20:43, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Less Unless: the appearance of a page is because there is one on https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:Tulsi_Bhagat . A page on meta will propagate as a default to all the other Wiki's in the family, including Wikipedia. The local copy overrides the default from meta. So the response would just be to restore as per the request. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:07, 4 June 2021 (UTC)
Cokelightplus.jpg deletion questions
[edit]I got a notification that you'd responded to me about the licensing of a specific image, and now that response has itself has also been removed, so I'm here. The photo in question was one I took myself, so I'm not sure why copyright of it wouldn't follow. There are similar photos (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coca-Cola#/media/File:15-09-26-RalfR-WLC-0098.jpg for example) that also show a product label in full, including one that has replaced mine on the page, so the distinction is not clear at all to me. For reference, this is the photo in question-- http://snowy-day.net/pictures/things/cokelightplus.jpg
- I think that image should also be deleted for a couple of reasons, so WP:OTHERSTUFF. However I will say that the label that you photographed, wsa just the label, and not incidental. It was also quite a lot more complex than the logo seen on the 51-... file. The person who deleted it was user:Explicit, so if you disagree with that deletion, Explicit is the first person to talk to. But I would say your image is a reproduction of a Coca Cole light plus label, and copyright is owned by some company for this. If it was used in some article you might be able to justify fair use. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:28, 2 June 2021 (UTC)
File:KNSD39.png
[edit]Hi Graeme. Would you mind taking a look at File:KNSD39.png and see if you can figure out what's going on? There seem to be two editors disagreeing over which version of the logo should be used. I still had the file on my watchlist because it was one of the ones discussed at Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2016 February 20#NBC logos (BTW, no Oldffdfull ever got added to the file's talk page), and it's been showing up quite a bit lately lately. The two versions are essentially the same with some minor differences in coloring and perhaps a bit of 3D shading or glossiness; so, maybe they should be split since they both seem to be 3D. Either way I not sure why this edit was made because none of the older versions seem to be non-free, but that might have been done just to get rid of the older versions. The disagreement seems to have gotten a been heated per User talk:Anthonyn312#Second warning about filespace edits; so, maybe there's a way to sort things out before they spin out of control. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:41, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
- Thank you Graeme. Should I add the Oldffdfull to the file's talk page? In addition, this file was actually originally licensed as non-free but you converted it to PD per the FFD close. If it should be converted back to non-free that that's OK, but I'm just wondering what (if anything) has changed. -- Marchjuly (talk) 22:47, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
- I did not realise that I closed that discussion, and now I am coming up with another opinion. Yes please add the Oldffdfull to the talk page. I don't know how to use that template! Graeme Bartlett (talk) 23:18, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
- I added the template as well as a WikiProject banner to the file's talk page. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:44, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
- Reason for reversion was purely as it was an unsourced Logopedia upload which didn't give where they in turn got it, no 2D/3D argument, just trying to warn the below editor of our WP:FAIRUSE policies. And I merely warned them twice to work first in article space as a new editor before playing around in filespace because they didn't seem to know what they were doing. - Hi, I'm Anthonyn312, I'm one of the editors that wanted to use the 2D version since almost every NBC O&O station on Wikipedia uses their 2D version of the logo, not the glossy version. I do not want to drag myself into a heated fight with Mrschimpf just because of editors' aesthetic differences. I don't feel comfortable now in doing any more image edits related to local news stations from now on after Mrschimpf's second threats on me. I hope you guys can help in bringing a peaceful resolution into this. Thanks for your understanding! -- Anthonyn312 (talk) 24:14, 11 June 2021 (UTC)
Pictures
[edit]Hi!
I hope you are doing well. I have recently created several articles on chemical compounds (Beryllium oxalate | Lithium oxalate | Praseodymium oxalate). May you please create pictures for them?
Thanks in advance! Cheerz! Lamro (talk) 07:28, 18 June 2021 (UTC)
- I suggest that you make some Praseodymium oxalate, as a crystal of that will look good. Perhaps I could make lithium oxalate crystals, but it won't be very exciting or authoritative. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 08:49, 18 June 2021 (UTC)
Cancel deletion process.
[edit]Please I request that you cancel plans to delete the page Delta State University Of Science And Technology Ozoro The materials used for the article are verifiable and sources were accredited. It is not a duplicate of another article. I request that you check well and help in the expansion and editing of the page. Thanks Idoghor Melody (talk) 23:39, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Idoghor Melody: That is not the problem, it is that all the text was copied word for word off a website. If you rewrite it fast in original wording you may save deletion. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 23:43, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
Please give some time, I will make sure to do so later today. It's 12:47am here and I really need to sleep as I am stressed out. I will update later today. Idoghor Melody (talk) 23:47, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Idoghor Melody: Another thing you could do is to change Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro, and have it renamed if it is functionally the same organisation. I myself could have deleted the page without warning, but I am leaving it for another admin to consider. Your best chance to get a rest is to give the reason not to delete on Talk:Delta State University Of Science And Technology Ozoro and be ready to restart tomorrow. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 23:51, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
It is the same school, but it was recently upgraded and it will kick off from the next academic session which is few months from now. Looking at it, the polytechnic is still there, it is not out totally. Do you think it is better to rename the page of the polytechnic to the page of the University? Idoghor Melody (talk) 23:58, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
- @Idoghor Melody: I think a rename is a good idea, with a bit of a rewrite to update the story. eg Canberra College of Advanced Education was a local tech college near me that became a university. The polytechnic page would become a redirect. Just make sure you are not copying from other's work. If you were the person that wrote what was copied, then there are ways to prove it. But that may be more work than jsut a rewrite. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 00:02, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
Alright. Tomorrow then. I'll rename. But it can still be done by an admin like you🤔. At least we are all here to support and help each other in creating contents, editing, verifying amongst others. I'll try my best to do the needful by tomorrow. Idoghor Melody (talk) 00:12, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
Mario articles
[edit]I am now an editor at Wikibooks (and temp admin for three months to help restore their video game strategy guides, which they recently passed a policy in allowing them. I was wondering if you can restore the page history for some of the Mario subjects so that I can transwiki it to the Mario franchise strategy guide wikibook (but the most recent revision would, of course, be the redirect). To start off with one article, I want Bob-omb's page history restored so i can add its history into the wikibook. I talked to another Wikibooks admin about it here two weeks ago. 2005-Fan (talk) 20:33, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
- Done @2005-Fan: let me know if this to be deleted again, however it probably does not need to be deleted unless there is an AFD here. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:02, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
- It does not because the latest revision was already a redirect. Thank you! 2005-Fan (talk) 22:03, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
- Okay, the article has been imported at here. Not that it would make a difference, but should the page history be intact here (seeing as it's already overwritten with a redirect)? 2005-Fan (talk) 22:22, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
- Legally you would need the history that results in the final appearance. I don't think that you need the redirects. You could delete, and then just restore the revisions which are not redirects. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:26, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
- So basically since the Wikipedia article for Bob-omb already has the redirect (which has been around for nearly a year) as the latest revision, it would not be necessary to delete the revisions of back when it was an article? Just making sure I understand. 2005-Fan (talk) 22:36, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
- Given that the only reason for delete was a G8 (not an AFD), and there don't appear to be copyright infringements or attacks, it is harmless to leave the history on Wikipedia. If the content was used somewhere then it should be kept for attribution. But as far as I can tell we don't need to keep or delete on Wikipedia. The main criteria would be: is it useful for our readers, or can we be bothered doing anything about it? Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:44, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
- Yeah this is why I think it's ok for the page history to stay. Makes it more organized too. 2005-Fan (talk) 22:53, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
Is it ok if I have the page history to transwiki into Doom? A similar list is in the Monster description subpage, and this might be a more completed version of it. Thank you 2005-Fan (talk) 01:13, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
- Draftified – the page has been restored to the draft space at Draft:List of enemies in Doom. @2005-Fan: this one did have an AFD. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 02:49, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
- Good idea to move it to the draft namespace then. I was wondering how it would be handled 2005-Fan (talk) 03:02, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
Deleted fairuse images for reuse on Wikibooks?
[edit]Are these allowed to be reused for Wikibooks (they allow fairuse image if information and free use rationale tags are provided)? I assume the policy is different (and in some cases, on Wikibooks, the fairuse images were physically deleted from the servers). To start, one example is SMB2Bobomb.png, an image that was from the Bob-omb article from yesterday. If it's not removed from the server, then is there a procedure in moving it over to Wikibooks? 2005-Fan (talk) 12:02, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
- It sounds like you know the policy there. I suspect that you will have to just upload it again. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 12:09, 1 July 2021 (UTC)
more page history needed
[edit]On wikibooks i started a new wikibook called A Traveler's Guide to the World of Pokémon (with an admin's permission). I was wondering if you could restore the page history for the following articles (which already are redirects as latest revision, like Bob-omb page):
And three key locations from the first Pokemon games:
2005-Fan (talk) 13:50, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
- The history of Kanto (Pokémon) is still there undeleted so you can export/transwiki that; the deleted parts of kanto are related to Kanto (music).
- Also Pokémon regions is done (lots and lots of revisions) Graeme Bartlett (talk) 00:34, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
- Looks like Kanto does have its history intact. The other pages I listed do not have them. Also, for the Zelda franchise strategy guide, is it ok if you provide the page history for Octorok, Darknut, and Lizalfos? 2005-Fan (talk) 00:47, 6 July 2021 (UTC)
Feasibility of asking for deleted article history
[edit]Hi, I made this section because I'm starting to wonder about the feasibility of asking for deleted article history (and am kind of embarrassed about it). On another administrator's talk page (I asked another for some Zelda articles so to not stress you with too many requests) he said that asking for article history of too many articles is becoming tedious, and I'm beginning to wonder if I'm breaking any rules by asking for article history for reuse at Wikibooks or if this is just a personal decision from another administrator. It's entirely the administrators' decision whether to restore page history (and I said it's for another wikiproject on wikibooks per their newly passed video game strategy guide policy). Therefore I'm worried about having a reputation of asking for too much page history for inclusion on Wikibooks (even if another Wikimedia community finds it beneficial). 2005-Fan (talk) 16:21, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- I would do 3 or 4 a day history restores without it being tedious. Those with over 400 revisions are a bit more difficult, so they will count for more work. Tediousness is a feeling rather than a policy! So best not to annoy people if you know they don't like it. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:46, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- Would it be safe to ask for the page histories of Buzzy Beetle, Bullet Bill (histsplit needed), Cheep Cheep, and Lakitu then? These are all enemies from the original Super Mario Bros. game. 2005-Fan (talk) 23:59, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- Cheep-Cheep, and Buzzy Beetle history restored. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:32, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- Lakitu has no deleted history — it is all there. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:01, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- The Cheep-Cheep page has its history cut off at September 2005. Were some revisions missed? 2005-Fan (talk) 22:11, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- Only redirects, and revert wars. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:16, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- Ah, I didn't know, seeing as many of the other Mario enemy pages were redirected in 2006 and 2007. What's the page history of the Bullet Bill, Blooper (Mario), Dry Bones (Mario), and Shy Guy (Mario) articles? These are common enemies in the Mario games. 2005-Fan (talk) 22:22, 9 July 2021 (UTC)
- I just created the Thwomp and Whomp articles as redirects to the Characters in the Mario franchise page if you want to restore those two articles' page history as well. 2005-Fan (talk) 12:38, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- Dry Bones (character) (variant on your suggested name as content was moved to this name) and Blooper (Mario) (without copyvio) history restored. Also Shy Guy (Mario). Graeme Bartlett (talk) 13:16, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- Did Bullet Bill have copyvio? Just curious why it hasn't been restored yet. Perhaps history split for it isn't needed since the latest revision is a disambiguation page. 2005-Fan (talk) 13:34, 10 July 2021 (UTC)
- Are you able to restore the page history for Snifit, Venus Fire Trap, Magikoopa, Wiggler (Mario), and Pokey (Nintendo)? Piranha plant (lowercase spelled correctly.) I know you suggested 3-4 a day, but these are some of the last pages on major and recurring Mario enemies. 2005-Fan (talk) 02:30, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- Done for Snifit. Venus Fire Trap was only ever a redirect so not worth it. at one time a redirect to List of recurring Mario franchise enemies#Piranha Plant, and another time to Piranha Plant. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 06:59, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- Wiggler (Mario) was only ever a redirect to List of recurring Mario franchise enemies#Wiggler, Recurring enemies in the Mario franchise#Wiggler or Recurring_enemies_in_the_Mario_series#Wiggler. Magikoopa history is back and it was a small stub at one point. Pokey (Nintendo) done. Piranha plant also done. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 07:04, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- Ah, I think it was the original Wiggler page I was thinking of (seeing as its history was "deleted to make way for move"). Same thing as Petey Piranha (whose page history I also want restored -- it's a Mario boss rather than enemy though). 2005-Fan (talk) 09:56, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
- OK I have done a history split, and old material is not in Draft:Wiggler. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 10:52, 11 July 2021 (UTC)
@Graeme Bartlett: Mind restoring the Recurring enemies in the Mario series page history? It's a large page though, but it has lots of info on the Mario enemies (and I want to import it into Wikibooks) 2005-Fan (talk) 14:54, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
- No point for that page, it is just a redirect. It was moved twice ending up at List of recurring Mario franchise enemies. This page has 7332 revisions, and required steward actions to delete. It will also not be feasible to restore for an admin due to too many revisions. However deletion has caused a copyright infringement to pages that copied it like https://neoencyclopedia.fandom.com/wiki/List_of_recurring_Mario_franchise_enemies (24 Nov 2013) or https://gyaanipedia .fandom.com/wiki/List_of_recurring_Mario_franchise_enemies (July 2019) Graeme Bartlett (talk) 21:20, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
- Very good point, and I was unaware that it had so many revisions, so i apologize for asking. A page with that many revisions can also be viewed in the Wayback Machine. 2005-Fan (talk) 22:21, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
- Does the wayback machine have all the revisions? I suspect for credit, the list of authors in the revision history may be sufficient. So check if that is OK, and I could paste in the authors. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 22:25, 13 July 2021 (UTC)
- It doesn't have over 7,000 captures of that page, so perhaps the page history would be beneficial. If I copy it over (I dunno if I'll end up doing this), should I copy the entire author/revision history in the talk page? 2005-Fan (talk) 00:53, 14 July 2021 (UTC)
Cataquacks are creatures from the game Super Mario Sunshine.
They appear at Gelato Beach where they are an irritating pest. Once spotted, they follow you around until they throw you high into the air. A fun way to beat them is to lure one, and then run to a tree and quickly climb in it. The cataquack will slam headfirst into the tree and will immediately be capsized. Only the red cataquacks damage you. If you lure a Cataquack to a sand bud and capsize it followed by your watering of the sand bud, it will fly into the air, and die landing on it's back (It turns to sand upon impact).
In Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, the Cataquacks are obstacles in the Peach Beach course and they'll flip you in the air. They can be capsized by a powerful weapon.
Flurry is an ice-skating snow monster that appears in Super Mario Bros. 2. Flurry attacks Mario and his friends by sliding across the ice in the frozen levels of World 4. Flurries can be picked up but are difficult to get good enough footing on in order to lift them up. Flurries will often attack in groups of two or three. Flurry only appears in Super Mario Bros. 2.
Ninji is a dark furry monster that appears in Super Mario Bros. 2. The Ninji are somewhat star-shaped with pointy ears and small fangs. The SMB 2 manual describes the Ninji as a type of devil and come in two varieties: the more dangerous type that chase Mario and his friends and then jump when he comes too close; the other less harmful type simply stands and jumps up and down in the same place. In daylight, the Ninji are black colored but appear blue in dark, underground areas as to not appear invisible.
Although uncredited in the game's closing credits, the Ninji also appears in Super Mario World as a denizen that lives in Bowser's castle. Unlike Super Mario Bros. 2, the Ninji of Super Mario World appear black even in the dark, thus making them nearly invisible unless a searchlight is switched on. In SMB 2, Ninji have to have an enemy or object thrown at them in order to be defeated; in Super Mario World, simply jumping on Ninji will defeat them. They often appear with Mecha-Koopas.
Pidgit is an enemy character that appears in Super Mario Bros. 2. Pidgit is a small black bird that cannot fly on his own, so he rides around on a magic carpet. Pidgit will fly back and forth above Mario and his friends for a few seconds then swoop down to attack. Pidgit is defeated by jumping on his head and throwing him off of his carpet, which can then be ridden for a short period of time. Pidgits usually appear when Mario or one his friends needs to either cross a large chasm or when they need to access an otherwise inaccessible part of a level that is far above the ground.
In Super Mario World, if the player completes all the SPECIAL levels, Bullet Bills will appear to look like Pidgit and are called "Pidgit Bill".
A Mechakoopa (Meka Koopa in Japan) is an enemy in Super Mario World, which may show some resembalance to a wind-up toy. At the final boss battle, Bowser will randomly throw two down at a time. They must be stomped, then thrown back at Bowser.
New Message from sidgan regarding new wiki page on CAMS
[edit]Hi, thank you for accepting the draft CAMS to Wikipedia. It looks like the title is incorrect and I'm unable to edit it on my end. The correct title is Cameras for All-Sky Meteor Surveillance and the word "Meteor" needs to be added to the current title. Can you please help me in doing that?
Enzymology
[edit]Usaapcwiki (talk) 22:07, 21 July 2021 (UTC)== page Enzymology redirected ==
Hello Graeme. You recently re-directed a page I created "Enzymology" to the page "Enzyme". I ask for the possibility of not to redirect to “Enzyme” the page named "Enzymology". Although it's certainly linked to the item Enzyme, scientists are focusing their attention on enzymology as a new topic which studies enzymes in their functional arrangement inside the cell, rather than as isolated structures. Moreover, the study of enzymology, as a new discipline, for many people began in the 1800s when researchers A. Payen and J. Persoz (in 1833) described, for the first time, the enzymatic reaction that involved the use of diastase able to hydrolyze starch. Later, C. O 'Sullivan and A. J. Brown in England and V. Henri in France, who appeared between 1890 and 1906, developed what can now be called enzymology because they initiated the quantitative and theoretical interpretation of catalytic processes. By now, from the literature, it's clear that, since the XIX century, scientists are continuing to expand the concept of Enzymology starting from the research and intuitions of the European predecessors, making Enzymology a discipline in its own right. So much so, this type of research is at the basis of other biological fields such as genetics, developmental biology, cell physiology and cell morphology. And fnally, the famous Italian encyclopedia "Enciclopedia del Novecento" excludes the matter Enzymology from the item Enzyme. Here the link: https://www.treccani.it/enciclopedia/enzimi_%28Enciclopedia-del-Novecento%29/
Thanks for your consideration. Angelo Usaapcwiki (talk) 22:07, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
- Hi Angelo, you are correct in that I did that, but I found that the material was already covered at enzyme or it was dubious fringe science. Probably each paragraph you were writing deserves its own article, but in my opinion it should not be named enzymology as that is the study of Enzymes. Probably best to discuss this on the talk page. But an alternative is WP:AFD which can decide on a keep or redirect. I don't think total delete is warranted. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 23:08, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
Hello Graeme. I totally uinderstand what you are saying. I have no idea how to continue this discussion on the Talk Page. Please advise because I thought this is what I was doing. Otherwise, let me see what name I should give to the page instead of Enzymology. And I will review the article. Once we have a new name for the page we can remove the re-direct to Enzyme page. thank you. Angelo 72.185.40.138 (talk) 13:52, 22 July 2021 (UTC)
Air Bag (video game character)
[edit]An enemy from the game Yoshi's Story. A mystery box might, instead of exploding to reveal goodies, turn out to be the home of this fellow. He would blow gusts of wind at players until defeated through the use of eggs.
Robirdo
[edit]Robirdo is a boss in Super Mario Advance. It is a giant, robotic version of Birdo. The fight against Robirdo replaced a Mouser battle that was in Super Mario Bros. 2.
Robirdo jumps, shaking the ground and stunning Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, or Toad if they are on the ground. Then, it runs forward. Another attack is spitting two giant eggs. All three of these attacks can be evaded by climbing the chains that hang down in the room.
Robirdo can be defeated by throwing eggs back at it.
Bandit (Yoshi)
[edit]Bandit is a fictional enemy in Nintendo's Yoshi series of video games. Bandit looks like a grown up Shy Guy.
Bandit's most noticeable role was in Yoshi's Island, where he, along with Shy Guy, were two of the most common enemies. But Bandit, however, was also available the enemy that Yoshi would verse in the unlockable mini games. Also, if the player uses a cheat to unlock the mini games, another person can use another controller to play as Bandit in certain mini games.
Bandot appears in the area Dry Dry Desert in Paper Mario.
A bandit steals half of the players coins at the beginning, there is also a Bandit at the Glits Pits called Bandy Andy.
- Baseball Boy and Zeus Guy
In the game Yoshi's Island, there are two enemies the look extremley a lot like Bandit. Baseball Boy is the first one you meet, unlike Bandit who steals Baby Mario, Baseball Boy chuks Yoshi Eggs and smashes Yoshi with his baseball bat when he gets close, he is defeated the same way Banidt is. Zeus Guy appears much later in the gane, he is able to fire powerful charged up energy shots, unlike the others, he cannot be defeated by ground pounds, he needs to be defeated a breath of fire or ice.
Koopa the Quick is a fictional character from the Mario fictional universe.
Koopa the quick appears in Super Mario 64 and its enhanced remake Super Mario 64 DS. He is a boss for Course 1 (Bob-Omb Battlefield), Star 2 (Footrace With Koopa the Quick) and in Course 13 (Tiny-Huge island), Star 3 (Rematch With Koopa the Quick). In both races, he must be beaten to the flag at the end of the race. In Super Mario 64 DS, he can only be raced with Mario. In Super Mario 64, the only playable character is Mario, and thus only he can compete in the race.
Koopa the Quick is, of course, a Koopa.
Request for Undelete Obinna Iyiegbu and merge Obi Iyiegbu
[edit]Hello Graeme Bartlett, I wanted to create an article on Obinna Iyiegbu (also known as Obi Cubana) and I just realized that an article has been created in 2018 and 2020 and was deleted due to violations of Wiki rules. My further research revealed that another Wikipedia volunteer created another article using another name Obi Iyiegbu, which is not the full name of the subject as cited in verifiable and independent sources. The subject Obinna Iyiegbu has become notable a few weeks ago when he buried the mother with over 300 cows and become an issue of national discussion in Nigeria. He has been cited in independent and verifiable news platforms. Hence, for the sake of open knowledge, I think an article should be created for him. To avoid further vandalism, please can I request for you to undelete Obinna Iyiegbu and let's improve the page and merge it with Obi Iyiegbu that was just created a few days ago. Thanks Kabusa16 (talk) 04:38, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
- General Guy
General Guy- General Guy is one of the bosses in Paper Mario. He was really just a regular Shy Guy until King Bowser Koopa gave him one of the Star Spirits to gaurd. He resides in Shy Guys' Toy Box, along with the rest of the Shy Guy community. He wanted all the rest of the Shy Guys to follow his orders, but never was able to get them to listen. When Bowser used the Star Rod on General Guy, he became a General among the Shy Guy's and commands them to stop Mario and his friends from rescuing Muskular, the fourth Star Spirit.
- Fly Guy (Mario)
Fly Guys are a fictional species in the Mario series of video games. They are mostly found in the Yoshi series and in Mario spin-offs. Fly Guys are often mistakened for Shy Guys, but the difference between them is that Fly Guys have propellers sticking out of their heads while Shy Guys don't.
Appearances In Video Games
- Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars: A Fly Guy named "Shy Away" who instead of fighting, watered Pirahna Plants to do battle for him.
- Super Mario 64: Fly Guys appear as enemies while their primary attack is diving towards Mario, though they can also spit fire. If Mario jumps on them, he can hover by spinning his arms like a helicopter. In Super Mario 64 DS they reprise this role again.
- Super Smash Brothers: Melee: Fly Guys appear in the Yoshi's Story stage as minor enemies carrying food which is dropped randomly or if they are killed.
- Mario Power Tennis: Fly Guy appears for the first time as a playable character with his partner being Paratroopa.
- Mario Party 6: Fly Guys appear in mini-games and as game board helpers. Fly Guys do this alos in Mario Party 7.
- Yoshi Touch & Go: Fly Guys and Shy Guys appear frequently throughout the game as enemies.
- Yoshi Topsy-Turvy: Fly Guys appear as enemies carrying coins. Shy Guys also appear as enemies in the colors of yellow, green, and their original color red.
- Mario Hoops 3-on-3: Fly Guy appears playable for the second time in the first ever Mario basketball game.
