Adoption[edit]

Just read your user page a little more carefully. If you're interested in being adopted, make sure you go to Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User, but I suspect that you already knew that. =) Or feel free to leave me a note if you have a particular question. -- Gogo Dodo 07:17, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're adopted![edit]

Many thanks for stopping by. As I'm the first to react to your request, I'd be happy to adopt you. If you add {{adoptee|Bencherlite}} to your user page, it will display a little box showing that I have adopted you. I've done the same on my user page.

Couple of suggestions straight away:

  • When you want to add a new comment to someone's talk page, or to an article talk page, click the "+" sign at the top and fill in what you want to say there, with a subject/headline. This automatically places your message at the end. You accidentally left the message in the wrong place on my talk page, and I've moved it now so you can see where it should be. If you want to carry on an existing conversation, just edit the page and add your message below. It's usual to indent replies by putting a colon (:), or more than one, at the start of the line,
like this for the first reply
this for the next
and this for the third (and so on, until someone decides there are too many colons and unindents the thread).
  • The next thing, which is important, is leaving editing summaries, so that people know what you're doing when you edit a page. If you make changes to an article without explaining what you've done and (if appropriate) why, it means that people have to check for themselves what you've done to see if they agree with it. So, if you haven't done so already, click on "my preferences", then "editing" and tick the bottom line Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary. If you're editing a talk page and use the "+" tab to start a new section, your headline is also the edit summary.
  • The final thing for now, which is very important, is signing your messages. This doesn't mean typing "Goldiesmoon". You need to type ~~~~ as this automatically brings up a link that you can click to get to the person's userpage. If you don't sign, it's harder to see who left messages, particularly on busy parts of Wikipedia where lots of people are leaving messages.

OK, lesson 1 over. Why don't you pop back to my talk page, leave a reply under your existing message (complete with a ":" at the start), tell me a bit about what you'd like to do on/for Wikipedia, leave an edit summary, and then sign it with ~~~~

Best wishes, Bencherlite 09:44, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations (or is it congradulations, I dont know) on your adoption[edit]

It looks like Bencherlite adopted you. Just something useful: When leaving messages on talk pages, click on the plus sign (+) located at the top of your screen (don't worry it took me a while to figure this out). If you want you can remove the below image when you are done. Another thing I didn't know when I first started to use Wikipedia is that when people say "per nom" that means "I agree with what the nominator said".

Adoption request[edit]

Please don't put that on my userpage...put it on my talk page please. If you still seek adoption, yes, I'm happy with that. G1ggy! Review me! 23:14, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Adoption[edit]

Hello, and thanks for your interest in being adopted by me! Unfortunately, I just recently took on another adoptee, and I will probably wait awhile to adopt a second user if they have been adopted by other people (as you appear to be), as I am rather busy with real-life (yes, it exists, I swear!).

Happy editing, Ninja! 18:39, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Are you still there?[edit]

Hello - I adopted you a few months ago, but you've not edited since. I don't know whether you're still logging onto Wikipedia but not editing. If you still want my help, let me know. If I don't hear from you in a week or so, I'll remove the adoption banner from your user page as it seems a little silly to say that you've been adopted by me if you're not actually here. However, if you return later, I'll happily readopt you! Regards, BencherliteTalk 21:00, 4 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've commented out the adoption banner, given what I said earlier, but do get back in touch if you come back to the project. Yours, BencherliteTalk 14:00, 24 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
