Happy New Year

Savvyjack23 (talk) 07:45, 1 January 2016 (UTC)

Hi

First, Happy New Year! :) If you want to please take a look at the articles Ametist Azordegan, Per Sinding-Larsen, Rachel Mohlin,Staffan Scheja,Rakel Wärmländer, and Stjärnorna på slottet. Regards,--BabbaQ (talk) 12:40, 31 December 2015 (UTC)

@BabbaQ:  Done - Happy New Year! GoingBatty (talk) 17:28, 31 December 2015 (UTC)
Oh, just started a stub about a subject which you edited recently Mullingstorp. Bengt Stern.--BabbaQ (talk) 00:46, 1 January 2016 (UTC)
@BabbaQ:  Done! That's the first time I used the LIBRIS template. GoingBatty (talk) 14:51, 1 January 2016 (UTC)

Vincent Grimani page

I noticed that you twice edited the provisional Vincent Grimani page I'm writing. I am sorry to have erased your first edit. Since I work the page externally, and then copy and paste the whole thing unto the Sandbox, any changes made here will be erased. I'm sorry. The problem is that I can't detect what, exactly, had been changed by you. I shall try to pay more attention. Thanks. (I just wanted you to know this) --Katafore (talk) 19:03, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

@Katafore: I'm presuming you're referring to the edits my bot made to User:Katafore/sandbox. If you look at the page history, you'll see this diff where the bot changed the categories to category links by adding a colon before the word "Category". When you paste the whole thing into your sandbox, please be sure that the article categories are not active. You can change them to links like the bot does, or comment them out, or simply delete them. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 19:07, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
OK. Thanks.--Katafore (talk) 19:16, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Hello, I've just found out that you undertook this bot request to fix links to the Handbook of Texas back in 2013. However, your run through the articles did not catch all the links; in fact I'd say it only caught about a third of them. For example, see this link search. I discovered this problem after checking an edit to Texas oil boom (which is on my watchlist due to vandalism), and discovering that almost all the links to the Texas Handbook were broken. I like doing things manually that most people wouldn't touch, so I decided to undertake to fix all of the other Handbook of Texas links. I went through A and B and some of C, before finding out that your bot had tried to fix the links a few years ago. Finding out about the work of your bot has made me a lot less inclined to fix the rest of the problem; I've gone and fixed the "Y" and "Z" links plus a few more random sets of links, but that's all I feel like doing now. Your bot did obviously do some work, but not everything. Would you be able to restart the task? (One more thing: occasionally you'll find links with "_print.html" at the end ... that entire phrase should be removed.) I'll ping the people involved in the original bot request: @Maile66, Rich Farmbrough, and Illia Connell: Graham87 18:42, 2 January 2016 (UTC)

@Graham87: Thanks for letting me know. I'm looking at this now. GoingBatty (talk) 19:07, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
@Graham87: In 2013 I was relying on a wiki search to find all the links to change. Now I'm searching a database dump and finding more, as you stated. The bot is fixing them now. Thanks again for the heads up. GoingBatty (talk) 19:17, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
There are several links that are not of the format ending with numbers. I created a temp category for any with 7 or 8 character ids. Creating Category:Handbook of Texas with old id All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 19:36, 2 January 2016 (UTC).
@Rich Farmbrough: Looks like we cleared out all the articles in the category - thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 21:07, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
Yep. I'm going to do some more basic checks, depending on the time I have. But I only found one odd item (had been entered with a "1" instead of an "l") and one marked as dead link. All the best: Rich Farmbrough, 21:11, 2 January 2016 (UTC).
@Graham87: The bot has 1,075 pages to go through, and then I'll look for links with "_print.html" at the end. GoingBatty (talk) 21:16, 2 January 2016 (UTC)
@Graham87: BattyBot fixed about 1,940 more articles. Please let me know if there are still more to fix. Thanks, and happy new year! GoingBatty (talk) 02:49, 3 January 2016 (UTC)
Wow, thanks to you and Rich Farmbrough! The only articles I found that still had broken links were those with apostrophes (Jean L'Archevêque, The Phil Donahue Show, and Pat O'Daniel and His Hillbilly Boys), one that was behind a redirect (Orcoquiza), another that ended in ".htm" instead of "html" (1977 National Women's Conference), and four with double slashes, the latter two being my fault (September 1910, Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service, Coryell County, Texas, and Crockett County, Texas. Otherwise, you both nailed it! Thanks again, and have a happy new year also. Graham87 10:04, 3 January 2016 (UTC)

Articles you contributed to have been nominated for Did You Know

Hi

Please take a look at the article Julia Kronlid. Any improvements are welcomed. Regards,--BabbaQ (talk) 22:46, 4 January 2016 (UTC)

@BabbaQ:  Done Any work you could do to expand the infobox would be appreciated. Also, added |trans_title= for each of the references would help too. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 02:12, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

Orphan pages

Maybe this will help you save some time, so you won't need to go through the all All orphaned articles category. The first list is in case you want to do some check, the second one is for copying to AWB list. The list most probably isn't fully 100% correct (the query was built for another Wikipedia, which has simplier rules), so you still will need to do the same things that you done in past. The only difference will be the list of articles. --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 19:48, 5 January 2016 (UTC)

@Edgars2007: This is great! I'm running it now, and will let you know what doesn't get changed. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 04:13, 7 January 2016 (UTC)
@Edgars2007: That went very well, and seems like a much better process. There were some articles that didn't get updated, and I was going to review the AWB log to investigate further, but then my PC took an update and rebooted without saving the log. Could you please rerun the query? I know one issue I had was that I didn't download the list properly, so articles that have diacritics in the title didn't get updated. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 00:07, 8 January 2016 (UTC)
I rerun the query. London mayoral election, 2004 is in the first place, because of this (shouldn't that be template?). Oh, yes. About copying the list. The method I'm using:
 • Download data as CSV
 • Open the file with Notepad++ (I think Notepad will also be fine)
 • Copy list from Notepad++ to Excel (so that all unnecessary quotes are removed)
 • Finally copy the list to AWB
I know, this isn't very good, but I think it's worth of that. --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 07:26, 8 January 2016 (UTC)
@Edgars2007: Thanks! Here's what I've learned:
 • I can run the query by myself
 • I don't know if London mayoral election, 2004/Image map should be a template, but I removed the orphan tag so London mayoral election, 2004 isn't marked as an orphan anymore.
 • I didn't know that AWB doesn't remove the orphan tag if |few= is set. I'll look at these manually.
 • After I download as CSV, opening in Notepad will show the diacritics properly, but opening in Excel will not.
 • I can just delete the quotation marks in Notepad and then copy the list from Notepad and paste it into AWB.
Thanks again! GoingBatty (talk) 18:44, 8 January 2016 (UTC)
Yes, you may also wish to remove those comments (which are in gray) - it'll be useless for you :) About Notepad/Excel - yes, that's why I said "copy list from Notepad to Excel". Sure, if there are not so much of quotes, then it's easy to do that manually. --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 19:53, 8 January 2016 (UTC)
One small note - I have blanked the query, as you have a local copy. There most probably will be some other unrelated query later. --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 20:05, 8 January 2016 (UTC)

magazine template

Hi GoingBatty You kindly pointed me towards the magazine template on red rose's page. I have had a look at this and the thing seems virtually unusable. Up to this point I had used the drop down cite journal template which seems perfect mainly for entries form the Great Eastern Journal.

The way I understand it is that you use this for a typical magazine entry (although I prefer the horizontal format) (I've had to edit it to get it to show):

 • | last =
 • | first =
 • | date =
 • | title =
 • | url =
 • | magazine =
 • | location =
 • | publisher =
 • | access-date=

Normally on cite journal I would also add volume and page but none of that is here. Can I add those fields myself (as per example below) or have I got to use one of the longer templates?

cite magazine

 • | last =
 • | first =
 • | date =
 • | title =
 • | url =
 • | magazine =
 • | location =
 • | publisher =
 • | access-date=
 • | volume =
 • | page =

--Davidvaughanwells (talk) 22:41, 10 January 2016 (UTC)

@Davidvaughanwells: Yes, |volume= and |page= are supported parameters - see the full parameter set in horizontal format. For example, generates:
 • Last, First (10 January 2016). "Title". Magazine. Vol. 4. Location: Publisher. p. 17. Retrieved 10 January 2016.
P.S. You could have also wrapped your examples in <pre>...</pre> so they would show properly. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 22:51, 10 January 2016 (UTC)
Thanks I will experiment with this.--Davidvaughanwells (talk) 17:56, 11 January 2016 (UTC)

Part edit

Hi, BattyBot in this edit removed only the time part of the author field, it left the date part intact. The date part should also have been removed. Keith D (talk) 22:18, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

@Keith D:  Fixed - thanks for the heads up. The bot has lots of find & replace rules, which execute in a specific order. The rules relevant to this edit were:
 1. remove Posted (done)
 2. remove date (ignored)
 3. remove time (done)
 4. remove by (ignored)
I've changed the rules to run the time rule twice to this:
 1. remove Posted (done)
 2. remove time (done)
 3. remove date (done)
 4. remove time (same rule, ignored)
 5. remove by (done)
Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 23:15, 23 January 2016 (UTC)

BattyBot task 49

Hi, do not know if this is covered or not as the description only indicates examples. In Infobox football biography can it also cover |ntupdate=? Thanks. Keith D (talk) 16:42, 24 January 2016 (UTC)

@Keith D: It can, but it doesn't yet. (The code is at User:BattyBot/Date fixes.) Per the template documentation, should |ntupdate= be changed to |nationalteam-update= (which the bot does fix)? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 17:24, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
|ntupdate= is deprecated in favour of |nationalteam-update=, though you do its matching entry |pcupdate= which is also deprecated in favour of |club-update=. Do not think that there is any general changes to the field names just a something to do if you feel like it. Keith D (talk) 20:29, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
@Keith D: OK, I'll leave the parameter names alone when fixing the dates.  Doing... now. GoingBatty (talk) 21:06, 24 January 2016 (UTC)
@Keith D:  Done, and I didn't find a single bad date in |ntupdate=. Did you have any specific articles in mind that I'm missing? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 05:01, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
No, I picked-up on 1 and thought that it should be added to the list to do to catch any others. Keith D (talk) 09:08, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

Colors used as racial terms are not capitalized, are they?

Colors used as racial terms are not capitalized, are they? Why are you capitalizing "White" for Caucasian and "Black" for African American? Maybe I missed out on a style change, which might be the case because I have BeenAroundAWhile (talk) 07:13, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

@BeenAroundAWhile: My primary goal was to change links from the colors White and Black to piped links to racial terms such as White Americans, White people, African Americans, and Black people. After reading the opening of the White Americans article, I thought that "White" and "Black" should be capitalized. Now that you and Dicklyon have set me straight, I will be restoring the original capitalization to the articles I edited. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 16:54, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

Hello GB, you've helped me out with ref problems once or twice in thew past. :) The above page has a mass (understatement) of ref errors, which as far as I can tell are just whoever added them all putting the same ref name in front of the citations. There are three in the first couple of lines alone where the page Nos. are different. I was thinking it would be one way to go through and just remove all the ref names turning each one into individual refs. and possibly looking through on preview for dup. page Nos. But i was wondering if you had any ideas (that wouldn't tax my non-wiki-friendly brain too much) or even if one of your mighty gadgets could help. Thanks. Regards, Eagleash (talk) 16:49, 1 February 2016 (UTC)

@Eagleash: You were right - all of the duplicate reference errors were those that had a complete reference and (possibly) different page numbers. I used Windows Notepad and find and replace to get rid of the duplicate names. I then fixed a few typos and formatting, but there's still work to do. Should we use sfn for short citations with different page numbers instead of repeating the enter book information each time? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 17:17, 1 February 2016 (UTC)
That's alchemy or something. Just like that it's gone! Thanks. sfn confuses me slightly, I've only used it a couple of times and had to turn one such instance (with a similar mass of ref errors) back into a <ref name> situation recently. I think there was something wrong with the cite as it kept saying multiple use of ref name but there was just the sfn template in each instance. I suppose sfn would be better. OHC NRHP

Thanks so much for the help! Nyttend (talk) 02:36, 3 February 2016 (UTC)

Just curious: what order did the bot follow in making these changes? I can't discern any sequence (it jumps all over the state, with consecutive edits being Cincinnati and far eastern Ohio, and it's definitely not in alphabetical order or chronological order for when these places got historic designation), but if you didn't give it any instructions, I don't know how it would know where to start. Nyttend (talk) 03:09, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
@Nyttend: I copied your list from Wikipedia:Bot requests#Deadlink Fixing, so it should have run in that order. GoingBatty (talk) 03:15, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
Okay, makes sense; I hadn't noticed that it was in the same order. I just copy/pasted the links from Special:Linksearch and removed the non-mainspace entries; that doesn't explain the lack of discernable order, but at least I can demonstrate innocence as far as creating a disordered list :-) Nyttend (talk) 03:21, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
@Nyttend: Wonder if the order of your search is based on when the article was created. GoingBatty (talk) 03:32, 3 February 2016 (UTC)
No, that can't be it. The first five articles are Lima Stadium (created 15 April 2008‎), Marietta Historic District (Marietta, Ohio) (5 December 2009), Temperance Row Historic District (11 November 2008), Lima Pennsylvania Railroad Passenger Depot (13 May 2010), and Masonic Temple (Springfield, Ohio) (9 February 2010). Much farther down on the list, we have Edward R. Stearns House (created 2007) adjacent to Middleport Public Library (created 2012). I looked for everything with http://ohsweb.ohiohistory.org/ohpo/nr/details.aspx?refnum=, so the refnums are the only difference, and they're out of order; as I noted above, they aren't in the order of the places getting historic designations, and the refnums are chronological, with the first two digits being the year (the Edward R. Stearns House, refnum 86001648, got listed in 1986) and the rest of the digits being sequential within the year. Nyttend (talk) 03:51, 3 February 2016 (UTC)

Editing

Thanks for your assistance. I only edited information which is blatantly inaccurate but that I can verify via third-party articles. I have been the official biographer and publicist for my late husband's band since 1974. Just about everything written about them began with one of my bios or press releases. I have also been a music business consultant, artist development specialists and former label executive for artists like the Delfonics, Diddy, Isaac Hayes, Bobby Womack, MC Hammer, Heavy D, Emininem, Black Eyes Peas,Jay-Z, Beyoncé , Main Ingredient, Kool & The Gang, Bar Kay's, O'Jays, Lou Rawls, DMX, Will Smith, Mariah Carey, Nauthy By Nature, and just about every hip-hop and rap artists for the past 46 years. I even worked with Warren Beatty on the promotion of the soundtrack to his "Bulworth" film.

I know that my experience and knowledge can be of value to Wikipedia. I have several other entries to add. However, I would appreciate any assistance you and others can give me. Everything that I've corrected or added can be verified. I don't think I should be punished for making sure that the truth is told about my husband and his band, especially when it can be referenced.

Here, I just corrected typos, and added to existing info. The info on Louis and his band was written by others but using data from my website, the band's website, documentaries, etc. that already exist. Wikipedia allowed the addition of a band member's solo discography when he should have his own page. These works were not part of the band's body of work as he chose to leave the band for a solo career which didn't pan out as he expected. The addition was opblatantly a rookie move and self-serving. Why wasn't that inaccurate addition caught by a Wiki editor and the contributor put on notice as I was within 23 hours? At least my info is correct and verifiable, to say nothing of my 4 decades and a half of writing bios and press releases.

I welcome any help that you can give me. I can write the data with footnotes, references, and external links and someone else can put the page)s) up if there's some kind of "conflict of interest". I have a cadre of interns and assistants who can monitor, correct, modify, and/or delete items on my late husband's page if Wikipedia feels that I am unable to be unbiased -an allegation which has never been said about me in almost 50 years of writing for me husband. m not concerned about getting credit, only that the biographical information on my children's father is accurate. They lost him to a senseless murder in 1997 and I've spent the past 18 years preserving his legacy while fighting the legal system to keep his still unsolved murder case from going cold.

I try to support Wikipedia through donations during your fundraising because I use Wikipepedia a great deal during research for articles, marketing strategies, business plans, and educating my clients in the business of music.

Am I not allowed to create my own page when there are dozens of confirming references and articles and book e Tories about me? If not me, then WHO? I have a more accomplishments that many of the people in Wikipedia.

I can provide you personally with my extensive bio which includes 46 years of work, but also a discography for my published songs and appearances as a consultant in music documentaries. I am also willing to provide letters of reference from top industry personnel which can attest to my honesty, professional work ethic, unbiased nature, and my unchallenged integrity.

I'm not here to blow my own horn -only to take time fripom my hectic schedule to make sure black artists are properly and proportionately represented by adding worthy R&B artists who seem to have fallen by the "Pop Wayside". Just as black Americans are up in arms about the lack of diversity in films at this year's Oscars, I just returned from a record industry event in Hollywwod and was shocked to learn how many of my peers are little known and not represented in Wikipedia. I was hoping to change that shortcoming with my many artist bios. However, who else would I start with but my late husband? The critically acclaimed TVOne documentary series about black artists has just gotten a Greenlight for a TWELVE SEASON, with 100 episodes already aired, yet most of those artists have only a a short paragraph and no pictures. To me, it's obviously that no one at Wikipedia has taken the time to watch the show. I am willing to go back and flesh those entries out - because we deserve it!

We have contributed so much to this uniquely American art form and all you can do is trip because I corrected info entered by someone who knows nothing about my husband or his group? Wikipedia is all over the place when it comes to black contributors. Well, guess what, after 500 years, some of us CAN WRITE!

By the way, I was shocked and appalled to see Ben Ali OF ben's Chili Bowl fame on the Howard University Alumni page while I and several other far more worthy graduates were left off. Howard has put out top doctors and lawyers and educators, yet the very first alumni is a "hot dog purveyor"? I am published songwriter, respected consultant, successful artist manager, photographer with one of my works in the Smithsonian nut NO ME, although I studied theater wit Phylicia Allen Rashad, Debbie, Allen, Lynn Whitfield, Donny Hatwawat, etc. Yet I can't even make sure my own husband and business partner's info is correct and up to date? Really, Wiki!? You're turning into "People" or Us",!

Please let me know what I can do do comply with your policies while still representing and supporting my people and peers. I respect Wikipedia but I'm not sure the feeling is reciprocal!

Thank you again for your cooperation in this matter. Let's work together towards diversity and fairness. After all this an educational forum for al

@R&BDiva: Wow - that's a lot to reply to, plus a whole other post below! OK, here it goes:
 • Although you said "I only edited information which is blatantly inaccurate", it appears that your edits at the Louis A. McCall, Sr. article is an addition of information, which you also added at the Con Funk Shun article, which appears to be copied directly from the group's official Facebook post.
 • You have a very impressive resume! I agree that your knowledge and experience and knowledge can be of value to Wikipedia.
 • I'm sorry you feel like you're being punished - that was not my intent. I'm also sorry to hear that you have asked for help in the past and did not receive it. Therefore, please let me try to help you understand Wikipedia:Plain and simple conflict of interest guide and offer some suggestions:
 1. "Be transparent about your conflict of interest." - Suggestion: Go to User:R&BDiva, click "Create source", and write about yourself, including your affiliation with your late husband's band and all these other wonderful artists.
 2. "Do not edit articles about yourself, your family or friends, your organization, your clients" - Suggestion: There's a difference between just correcting typos and inserting new information about the work you are doing.
 3. "Post suggestions and sources on the article's talk page" - Go to Talk:Louis A. McCall, Sr. or Talk:Con Funk Shun, click "New section", and make one suggestion on how to improve the article. It could be a request to change the wording of existing text, or to add new information. I suggest you start small - some Wikipedia volunteers would feel overwhelmed at the sheer volume of text you posted here.
 4. "Subjects require significant coverage in independent reliable sources". - Suggestion: "Independent" means that your source should not be your press release or the band's Facebook page.
 • "Why wasn't that inaccurate addition caught by a Wiki editor and the contributor put on notice". Wikipedia editors are a small number of volunteers working on 5 million articles. Sometimes things slip through that should not. When you see something like that, please go to the talk page of the article in question and share your concerns.
 • "I can write the data with footnotes, references, and external links and someone else can put the page)s) up if there's some kind of "conflict of interest"." Wonderful! Please provide that information on the article talk page.
 • "I have a cadre of interns and assistants who can monitor, correct, modify, and/or delete items on my late husband's page" - They work for you, so they share the conflict of interest and should not directly edit the articles. However, their suggestions on the article talk page should be welcome.
 • "I try to support Wikipedia through donations" - Wonderful! Thank you!
 • "Am I not allowed to create my own page" - Yes, please do not create an autobiographical article about yourself, as that would be a conflict of interest. However, please talk about yourself at User:R&BDiva.
 • "I can provide you personally with my extensive bio" - WP:YOURSELF recommends "The proper way to get your own writing about yourself into Wikipedia if you really think that you can meet the inclusion criteria and are willing to accept having a neutral, non-promotional article, is to make a proposal at Articles for creation for the text you want"
 • "I am also willing to provide letters of reference" - Wikipedia is looking for verifiable reliable sources, such as books, magazines, newspapers, and web sites that are completely independent from you.
 • "I'm not here to blow my own horn" - Wonderful! Then you don't need to work on creating an article about yourself or posting information about yourself in other articles, right? Instead, it would be much better to use your skills to flesh out articles about other "worthy R&B artists"
 • "who else would I start with but my late husband?" - Anyone who you don't have a conflict of interest with. Maybe you could honor your husband by working on artists about artists who inspired your husband that you never worked with.
 • I am not familiar with "The critically acclaimed TVOne documentary series", but it sounds like it could be an appropriate reference source.
 • "some of us CAN WRITE!" - Wonderful! Where do you want to start?
 • "I was shocked and appalled to see Ben Ali OF ben's Chili Bowl fame on the Howard University Alumni page" - It looks like you're referring to Howard University#Notable alumni. It appears that the list is in alphabetical order, so Ali is before Debbie Allen and Thurgood Marshall. There are plenty of notable people on the separate article List of Howard University people to choose from. Part of Wikipedia's code of conduct is civility - I would bet there are people who care about the "hot dog purveyor" just as much as you care about your husband. On the article talk page, I see a post sharing your concern, which says "ben ali? even i could do better in choosing a sampling". Maybe that posted would have received a response if they had actually posted a suggested sampling instead of being insulting. Would you like to give it a try and post your suggestion there?
 • I believe you will get a much better reception by using phrases like "Let's work together towards diversity and fairness." instead of "Really, Wiki!? You're turning into "People" or Us",!".
I hope this provides you with the suggestions you need to be successful here. On to the next section! GoingBatty (talk) 03:03, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

Conflict of interest

Dear Betty, I studied all of Wiki's terms years ago. I'm not trying to be confrontational - just get help and up support from more experienced editor's. I added, modified or deleted nothing which substantively alter the original info. There were typos and incorrect entries which I merely "tweeted". As a professional, I fail to see how my edits are barred on a man who is my EX-husband and who has been dead since 1997.

If I'm being a problem, I will just withdraw from any further contributions in writings and donations. I feel as though my continued support of Wikipedia means nothing to this website. I can't get help, only rebuffs.

I began with my late ex but have a dozen other R&Bartists that I wanted to add after doingpf my due diligence for references and verifiable published background info. Is Wiki not interested in expanding its database?

I've been trying to become part of the Wiki community for almost 10 years but I'm always getting my hand slapped instead of being offered help. I went to law school and negotiate and administer contracts. I fully understand "Conflict of Interest" legalities. I'm just trying to adhere to your terms as best I can but the whole Wiki process is over complicated.

I will just refrain from any further support of Wikipedia since, no matter what Im to comply. And when I reach out to other editors and contributors for help, I never get it - I'm sent to read policies that I've already checked out.

My contributions to my ex's bio was done in good faith, with no selfish ulterior motives. He has 3 children who are intelligent and often use Wiki. After the trauma and tragedy of his murder, I'm merely trying to protect his legacy from people who don't know him and who are culling misinformation about him from unregulated online blogs and websites, who are allowed to say whatever they want. I feel as if I'm "That Girl" who is repeatedly refused entré into some secret college club. Repeatedly requests for help with complying with Wiki's often complication ways and means have been rebuffed more times that I can count.

Am I allowed to edit the MC Hammer page? I worked for him for 2 years and I don't know where Wikipedia got his "back story". I was never married to him - he just my pay checks.

I thank you for prompt response to my incorrect attempt to make very minor changes. I have gone through this same treatment many times since 2007. In the future I will not assume that I lack the requisite intelligence to be of help to Wikipedia.

I wish you a very blessed and prosperous 2016.

R&BDiva (talk) 16:16, 4 February 2016 (UTC)
@R&BDiva: OK, reply #2:
 • Again, I'm sorry to hear that you're not receiving the help you need. Would you like to give me one example of something you're trying to change but are unable to get done?
 • Since you had a professional relationship with MC Hammer, I suggest you do not directly edit his article. Instead, I suggest you start a new post at Talk:MC Hammer and point out one thing you're concerned about. Make a specific suggestion about what text should be in the article, and provide a source for your information.
 • A person of your considerable experience surely has the "requisite intelligence to be of help to Wikipedia", which is why I invested over an hour of my time responding to these posts. Please let me know if I can be of any specific assistance. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 03:17, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

User Page

I also need help setting up a User and Talk page. I just don't get it! 😆 R&BDiva (talk) 07:20, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

And you REALLY need to check out "Unsung"! The show has just gotten renewed for a 12th season! My husband's band and I are in episode 48 (Season 6) and I'm in The Delfonics episode 68 in Season 8. I also did a documentary for PBS about the legendary Howard Theater in 2010. I also have a song on Lil Wayne's Grammy Award winning CD " Tha Carter 3". — Preceding unsigned comment added by R&BDiva (talkcontribs) 07:41, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

@R&BDiva: You already have a talk page: User talk:R&BDiva. To set up a user page, click on R&BDiva, type what you want in the big white empty box. In the Edit summary box, type something like "Created my user page", and click the Save page button.
I checked out Wikipedia's article called Unsung (TV series), and it sounds like a series I would enjoy watching. Unfortunately, I can't find it at Netflix, Amazon video, Hulu, YouTube, or at my library.  :-( Maybe you could use your connections to get TV One to join some streaming services? GoingBatty (talk) 16:54, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

Let's start again.....

First, I was a little salty because I realized my limitations with respect to Wiki over 7 years ago. I knew I had a lot to contribute but was not good with all the extra, along computer coding, aspects of the site. I asked repeatedly for help or even offered to give my articles, complete with research and due diligence to a more experienced Wiki editor for publishing. I didn't need credit for the article - I just wanted to see more diversity, along with blatant misinformation corrected. I don't care about MY name being on Wiki because I've been able to have a successful business based on my stellar reputation and word of mouth. However I did want my ex-husband to be represented correctly.

I know just about everyone in rap, R&B and hip hop, either as friends, or clients, or employers or clients. I can't get past "conflict of interest"! Is it fair that I'm penalized just because I'm a professional consultant and publicist? Or because I was paid by Mercury Records and my husband's band to do publicity and photography? Or that my husband had been dead since 1997 (and I divorced him 10 months before he was executed in a home invasion robbery. (We had planned on remarrying 3 months after he died.).

i was MC Hammer's only female VP. I managed Heavy D. Troop, Ralph Tresvant, Whodini, Dougie Fresh, and Hammer. How is my husband a conflict of interest when we don't have any close interaction anymore? Did I tell you he's been dead since 1997? Maybe because I still have the urn with his ashes on my bookshelf. I will be glad to dump his ashes over the back fence in the dust of the Sonoran Desert to break the "conflict" of our 21 year marriage, 2 children, and 25 year business relationship. I WILL DO IT AS LONG AS I KEEP MY HUSBAND'S LEHIS LEGACY ALIVE AND ACCRUATE. And you can publish the pages for other artists and entreprenuers on my behalf. I will provide the bio with references and external links.entrepreneurs.

That said, I am mentioned on the pages of other Wiki entries. I believe that I am now qualified for a short blurb, don't you think? We "Unsung Heroines" or as I'm often call "The Power Behind The Throne" deserve our time in the sun.

It was not my intention to insult Ben Ali, especially as a Howard alum. But my background is so much more than President Obama stopping by for a hot dog. I ate those same items while at Howard 45 years ago! I really wanted a direct contact with you to air my issues and for you to get me straight. Out in the open I feel that I must be more aggressive.

My personal email is [email protected]. Send me yours and I can give you my CV, discography and filmography, which is more impressive than my ex. I would be so appreciate if you will let me know if, being submitted by a "non conflict of interest" editor, I qualify for "the secret society" 😃. Along with a black female Senior Producer with suite a filmography. And a pioneer in R&B music, helping keep, our history relevant.

Sorry if we got off on the wrong foot but 9 years of no help and unwarranted attitude from Wikipedia had be going from 0 to 60 with very little provocation. I did encounter another Editor tonight who was polite and helpful.i thanked him/her publicly.so I do have a courteous side. 🤓

I look forward to hearing back from you via my email. You can Google me and see that I'm not a sociopathic stalker.

Thanks R&BDiva (talk) 07:19, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

@R&BDiva: Thanks for this post. You said both I don't care about MY name being on Wiki and I believe that I am now qualified for a short blurb - which is it? Even though your husband has passed away, your prior personal and business relationship is the definition of a conflict of interest: "For example, an article about a band should not be written by the band's manager, and a biography should not be written by the subject's spouse." The location of his ashes will not change this. You asked if you qualify for "the secret society". Are you asking to have an article about yourself or are you asking about editing other existing articles? I see you are very passionate about wanting to improve Wikipedia - can you please give one example of something that needs to be changed? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 18:02, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

Unsung & Other Pertinent R&B Info for "GoingBatty" 😎

The show is on a small cable company called TVOne. You can usually find episodes on the TVOne website or YouTube. I don't watch the channel much myself. Because I've licensed some of my kazillion old school photos for them to use, I just have them send me DVDs so I can watch the shows at my leisure. I'll have them send me doubles next time and I can pass them on to you. I will ask one of my friends at TVOne about the streaming. However, there's a top producer there who deserves a Wikipedia page. Am I allowed to submit it or can you do it if I send you the info and references? Don't want to get caught up in "Conflict of Interest" probs again. 😊

This is why I'm so passionate about getting black artists, songwriters and producers on Wikipedia. Many have won Grammys and other top awards but white people never hear about them until some pop artists samples their music - and then only in passing. I have a great background which could be an inspiration to young black women growing up. Right now they think the only thing they can be is a Rihanna or Beyonnce . Or worse, they think they can "twerk" their way to the top by being a video ho. Yet there are dozens of other jobs for us behind the scenes. I was fortunate enough to be mentored by one of a handful of female producers at the time who worked at Stax Records. It was there that I learned about publicity, copyrights, music publishing, contracts (which eventually made me go to law school full time at 31 with a toddler, lupus and an undergraduate degree in theater!)

I'll work on my User page although others look like there's some HTML coding involved. 😃 What do I say? A short blurb about my experience? R&BDiva (talk) 23:36, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

By the way, I love the way you checked me with those "bullet points". That's exactly what I needed. Now I know what I did wrong and can correct it. Or not do it at all. I wasn't meaning to be insulting to Ben Ali. After all, we are both Howard alum. I actually went to school with Debbie Allen and her sister Phylicia Rashad, the best actress to ever come out of that school. I was a lighting design major while they were acting majors. We did many a play together. And walked to Ben's many a night for one of his now world famous "half smokes. No disrespect intended. That's why I wish our conversations did not have to be in the open. Rookies, such as myself, have no "home training" for Wikipedia's policies! I apologize openly to both you and Mr. Ali. Now can I be added to Howard Alumni - I am a little bit "notable". Just kidding....... — Preceding unsigned comment added by R&BDiva (talkcontribs) 23:49, 5 February 2016 (UTC)

@R&BDiva: I don't know if you have a specific working relationship with the TV One producer that would be a conflict of interest. If you don't have a COI, the next step would be to gather the independent reliable sources to show that the producer meets the criteria for having their own Wikipedia article, which Wikipedia calls "notability". Why don't you post your sources here, and we'll go from there.
Some people have very fancy user pages. It's OK to start small with plain text. A short blurb about your experience and your passion like you have posted here would be fine on your user page. Everyone here started as rookies. I started out making some silly mistakes, and it took guidance from many other editors before I got the hang of Wikipedia. Stick with it and you'll get it too. GoingBatty (talk) 03:44, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

You're the best

Thanks so much for all of your time. I'm sure, like me, time is money and the one commodity that we have very little. I may not ever become a really good Wiki editor but at least I now know what my mistakes and limitations are. I will back off for a while, study all of the great bullet points you provided, and re-read the Terms, COI, and everything else I can find on Wikipedia. Oh, what I would give right now for "Wikipedia For Dummies"! 😃 Do I feel a self-help book coming down the pike? But I'd need you as co-writer! I'll never be as good as you are at this. Nor do I really want to. I know how to play my own position. I'm good at what I do and I respect people who are good at what they do. You have taken the time to help a real dummy who has been jacked around here for 8 year. For that I will always be grateful.

In the meantime, I will get my writings, resources, references, external links, and citations together. I will hit you up later on how to use the other Wiki available resources to get them published. Even if you have to do it in your name. Study up on your R&B, rap and hip-hop history. I'll try to shoot you as many online Unsung episodes that I can find. I can only have the show send you DVDs directly.

Take care and have a great weekend!! You have done your "Good Deed" for the month. 👍🏾 #PlayingItForward R&BDiva (talk) 04:40, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

Listing an image for files for discussion

Hi. Hope you're well. I've listed my first image for files for discussion as a probable copyright violation but I seem to have made a mistake in how to denote the image as being nominated. I wonder if you could you help me rectify the "incomplete nomination". I have created a FFD discussion for the image 1, and notified the user 2 but the message on the image page still says incomplete 3. I followed the instructions listed here: Wikipedia:Files for discussion. Thanks. Cowlibob (talk) 18:23, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

@Cowlibob: I believe the issue is that Wikimedia Commons has a different deletion process than the English Wikipedia does - see commons:Commons:Deletion requests. GoingBatty (talk) 19:05, 6 February 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. Have now moved it appropriate venue. Cowlibob (talk) 20:33, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

the Gregory's Theme

hello i am writing to ask you about the autor or a title of the orchestral piece dedicated to hugh laurie's Dr. House role which about you wrote in this article. I try to search that melody through the internet but can't find it ;c thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 31.183.5.64 (talk) 02:00, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

Are you referring to Basto (musician)? Neither my bot nor I wrote the paragraph about "Gregory's Theme" - we just made some minor fixes. I suggest you ask at the article talk page: Talk:Basto (musician). Good luck! GoingBatty (talk) 02:18, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

Please refrain from editing other people's User pages

If you catch something that is frowned upon on someone else's user page, could you please refrain from editing it, and instead send the said user a talk message requesting that they make the change? My user page is NOT yours to edit, and from what I know from my time here, it is frowned upon to encroach on someone elses user page.

Thank you for your future cooperation. Lord Khadgar05 (talk) 07:40, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Lord khadgar05, first thing, new talk message go at the bottom of talk pages, not top. Click on the "new section" tab at the top to start a new message. It is perfectly fine to correct an error on people's user pages. Per WP:UP#OWN, Traditionally Wikipedia offers wide latitude to users to manage their user space as they see fit. However, pages in user space belong to the wider community. They are not a personal homepage, and do not belong to the user. They are part of Wikipedia, and exist to make collaboration among editors easier. Bots and other users may edit pages in your user space... You added categories that only belong in an article. GoingBatty only corrected this error. Bgwhite (talk) 09:49, 7 February 2016 (UTC)
@Lord khadgar05: Building on what Bgwhite said, one of the cleanup tasks I do is to look for user pages for article categories. These are usually on userspace drafts of articles and should not be, per WP:USERNOCAT. I received approval to have my bot change these to category links so the user pages are not included in the article categories. My bot skipped your page User:Lord khadgar05 because it some Wikipedian categories, which are perfectly appropriate for your user page, so I made the change manually. Since you would like me to post on your user talk page, I will do so now. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 19:05, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

Editing the names of newspapers

Hello.

Could you possibly explain the rationale for this edit, please? If I look at the pages for The Sydney Morning Herald and The New York Times, they are both spelled that way, with the The. If I change them to Sydney Morning Herald and New York Times, then in both cases the page redirects to a version with The in the title. Finally, publisher is part of Template:Cite, and I don't understand the need for making the cite less complete. --Stroller (talk) 11:52, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

@Stroller: One of the objectives of the User:Ohconfucius/script/Sources script I use is to "make source name congruent with WP article namespace of same". Since The is part of the article name, the script adds it to the reference. Also, the instructions at Template:Cite web#Publisher state that the publisher parameter is "Not normally used for periodicals". Readers can click on the Yachting World link to find the publisher, if needed. Thanks for asking! GoingBatty (talk) 20:03, 7 February 2016 (UTC)
Thanks for your explanation. I'm afraid I misread the diff and thought you'd removed the The from the newspapers' names, not the other way around. I appreciate your help and courtesy. Stroller (talk) 13:27, 8 February 2016 (UTC)

Here's a wedding ring, in time for Valentines Day

A user came to IRC and asked why the text "jewels" linked to jessica Jones on Wedding ring. It appears that you did that in June 2015. Just wanted to notify you. (tJosve05a (c) 23:54, 13 February 2016 (UTC)

@Josve05a: Facepalm Facepalm Thanks for fixing that. I was disambiguating jewel and must have clicked the wrong link. GoingBatty (talk) 23:58, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, I assumed so. Still thought it was a bit funny (read: sad) that no one noticed in in ~8 months. (tJosve05a (c) 00:04, 14 February 2016 (UTC)
@Josve05a: Thought it might have been some Freudian desire to marry Jessica Jones, but that wouldn't have happened until after her TV series premiered in November. :-) GoingBatty (talk) 01:09, 14 February 2016 (UTC)

Sia/SIA

Hello GoingBatty. BattyBot has made this edit. Well, it seems to be an error, because the band Zero 7 are related to Sia (Sia Furler), not SIA (Smithsonian Institution Archives)... --NicoScribe (talk) 09:12, 20 February 2016 (UTC)

@NicoScribe: You are correct! I have fixed the error on Talk:Zero 7, and fixed the bot code with this change. I checked my bot's other edits and also found it made the same mistake on Talk:Under the Milky Way, which I have reverted. The bot should visit it again to add WikiProject banner shell without changing WikiProject Sia. I don't see any other articles in Category:Sia Furler (or one of its subcategories) where the talk page contains . If you find any other mistakes, please let me know. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 14:35, 20 February 2016 (UTC)

Can you please check that the wikiproject script deals with all redirects of WikiProject United Arab Emirates correctly? i.e. It adds the correct parameters when needed. When adding the WikiProject banner shells, your bot breaks usages of by changing it to , such as here. It has apparently done that in ten pages now. SiBr4 (talk) 11:48, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

Have left a message on the bot's talk page which should stop it. — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 12:05, 24 February 2016 (UTC)
@SiBr4 and MSGJ: Thanks for the report and for posting to the bot's talk page to stop the bot. (I manually stopped the bot before that, but I still appreciate you thinking of post there.) I've fixed the bot's code and restarted it, and will fix the broken pages later today. Thanks again! GoingBatty (talk) 12:26, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

Script fixed. -- Magioladitis (talk) 12:30, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

All 11 affected pages fixed. -- Magioladitis (talk) 12:34, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

I also bypassed the redirects in about 50 pages. No bot with older script will affect them anymore. -- Magioladitis (talk) 12:37, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

@Magioladitis: Thanks for fixing my bad addition to your script and for fixing my bot's bad edits. I expanded your script to include the other redirects for this template, and will update my bot later today. Thanks again! GoingBatty (talk) 16:18, 24 February 2016 (UTC)

ISSN syntax

Could you please run your bot o User:Bgwhite/Sandbox1 to fix ISSN syntax in citation templates? -- Magioladitis (talk) 05:58, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

@Magioladitis: I don't have an approved bot task to fix ISSN syntax. I looked at a couple articles and didn't see any big red errors - what needs to be fixed? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 06:01, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
id=ISSN to issn=. This is now done by AWB gengixes. -- Magioladitis (talk) 06:04, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
@Magioladitis: Using issn= provides the magic link - gotcha.
 • Before: "Title". Journal. ISSN 0733-5296.
 • After: "Title". Journal. ISSN 0733-5296.
Too late tonight to create a RFBA - maybe this weekend. Thanks for thinking of me! GoingBatty (talk) 06:12, 25 February 2016 (UTC)
It's also part of CHECKWIKI fixes in order to improve the ISSBN syntax but I think you are the appropriate person to do this in whole :) I won't be editing for 4 days. -- Magioladitis (talk) 06:15, 25 February 2016 (UTC)

Paulo Figueiredo

is it normal for a person to be labeled as black or white? Why is Paulo Figueiredo being identified as a "white Angolan"? Isn't this some kind of racism? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Valmir144 (talkcontribs) 19:43, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

@Valmir144: An IP editor added "white" in these edits. My subsequent edits were just to change the link destination from white (the color) to white people. MOS:BLPLEAD states "Ethnicity ... should generally not be in the lead unless it is relevant to the subject's notability." I don't know whether Figueiredo being white is relevant or racist or neither. Respected Mr. GoingBatty,

I have improved my article "Devsena Mishra", sharing the link of my article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Vishalgauravjh1/Devsena_Mishra

And sharing this link for your reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/Devsena_Mishra

Please guide me so that I can republish it. Best Regards, Vishalgauravjh1 (talk) 08:50, 11 March 2016 (UTC)vishalgauravjh1

@Vishalgauravjh1: Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Basic criteria states "People are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject." It appears that you have not yet provided any independent reliable secondary sources.
 • References 1, 3, 4 & 5 are OK to show that she has written books, but there should also be independent secondary sources that talk about the importance of these books.
 • Reference 2 is a link showing that someone is selling her book on eBay. Since eBay did not publish the book, this should be removed.
 • References 6 & 8 do not mention Devsena at all. I'm guessing that reference 7 doesn't mention her either.
 • I see the external link to a2zstartup.com - you could improve the article by mentioning that this is her website.
 • I see the external link to DappsTech, and you mentioned that she is a co-founder. Is there somewhere on the website that verifies that she is a co-founder?
It will be essential to provide independent reviews and significant coverage of her books, websites, and companies before you begin the Wikipedia:Articles for creation process. Good luck with your draft! GoingBatty (talk) 17:48, 11 March 2016 (UTC)

@GoingBatty, Thank you so much for your guidance. Vishalgauravjh1 (talk) 19:00, 11 March 2016 (UTC)vishalgauravjh1

How To Request A New Page

Hi there, I hope you're very well. I would like to request a page to be written about my soundware business, ModeAudio, and noticed you'd edited a page about another business in our niche, Prime Loops. I checked their sources as well as those for a similar page, Loopmasters, and feel we have a sufficient number of reliable links to warrant a new page. How would you recommend I go about requesting the page to be written? I'm more than happy to submit some copy for scrutiny by a Wikipedia editor. Here are some of my sources:

BattyBot: Date format error

Hello, I've noticed that BattyBot makes faulty corrections such as this one. "апреля" means April, not March. VanHelsing.16 (talk) 23:07, 21 March 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) The BattyBot Task 25 code snippet in question appears to be martie|марта?|Март|апреля|marzec|Mawrth|březen|března. It looks like an extra "апреля" snuck in there and should be deleted. – Jonesey95 (talk) 00:11, 22 March 2016 (UTC)

Dab challenge focus

As much fun as the bonus list is, I'd really like if everyone would focus on the main list this month. As of now, there are 1,224 pages with more than 5 incoming links. If we can bring that number down by 225 before the end of the month, then we will have bridged the gap between the main list and the bonus list, and every single disambiguation link in Wikipedia at the beginning of May will count for the contest. Cheers! bd2412 T 00:59, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

@BD2412: I'm using Dab Solver on my Kindle Fire on vacation. It only tells me which disambiguation links give points, not the difference between the main list and the bonus list. Hopefully I'll have time later this month to work on the main list. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 02:01, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

 3. Sure, I "know" you well enough to support without researching your edits, but I just took a quick look to see how those not familiar with you might view your history. Surprised to see you haven't picked up the template editor bit yet. Many will want to look beyond your automated edits. There will be some concerns re the "well-roundedness" of your participation, so be sure to point out the best of your "admin-related" editing. I think the concerns about content creation have mellowed some since my run last August, but it would help if you can have at least one example showing you at least know how to add new properly cited content. RegEx question

Hi GoingBatty! I'm trying my hand at RegEx again. I'm probably make 7 rules for what would take other people 1 rule, but I'm running into one issue: making an uppercase capture into lowercase. Short story is that I'm trying to make something to turn wikitable syntax used on TV episode pages into Episode table. See User:EvergreenFir/sandbox8 as the example I'm working with. One example of an issue I'm having is getting the $1 for (?:\n\!.*\|.*)(Title|Directed|Written) into either "title", "directed", or "written". I did look it examples but they all use /L which doesn't seem to work with AWB.

Also, is there a way that I can do if/then type statements? Like I'd like it so that I could so something along the lines of "if Directed, return director" without having to do a single rule/subrule for each. Any help is appreciated. Please ping me in reply. Thank you! EvergreenFir (talk) Please re 05:42, 5 April 2016 (UTC)

To clarify that second if/then question, here would be the "I really wish I could do this" example: turn ! style="background-color: #ccccff; color:#000;" width="140"|Original air date into |airdate= EvergreenFir (talk) Please re 05:44, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
I worked around it. But if any talk page stalkers know a simple way of doing this, let me know. EvergreenFir (talk) Please re 17:36, 6 April 2016 (UTC)
@EvergreenFir: Sorry - I don't know how to change to lowercase inside a template or set up an if/then/else find & replace rule. You might have more luck at Wikipedia talk:AutoWikiBrowser/Regular expression. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 01:38, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
I don't know if it will help, but I have some case-sensitive search and replace regexes at User:Jonesey95/AutoEd/unnamed.js. It's not an AWB script, but it may help. The "/gi" after the regex search pattern tells it to be case-insensitive, and "/g" makes it case-sensitive. The "g" is for "global", which is usually what you want. Here's a useful regex testing page. – Jonesey95 (talk) 02:58, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
Thank you both! I'll try the awb talk page as I've run into another issue. EvergreenFir (talk) Please re 18:53, 7 April 2016 (UTC)

Editor of the Week : nominations needed!

The Editor of the Week initiative has been recognizing editors since 2013 for their hard work and dedication. Editing Wikipedia can be disheartening and tedious at times; the weekly Editor of the Week award lets its recipients know that their positive behaviour and collaborative spirit is appreciated. The response from the honorees has been enthusiastic and thankful.

The list of nominees is running short, and so new nominations are needed for consideration. Have you come across someone in your editing circle who deserves a pat on the back for improving article prose regularly, making it easier to understand? Or perhaps someone has stepped in to mediate a contentious dispute, and did an excellent job. Do you know someone who hasn't received many accolades and is deserving of greater renown? Is there an editor who does lots of little tasks well, such as cleaning up citations?

Please help us thank editors who display sustained patterns of excellence, working tirelessly in the background out of the spotlight, by submitting your nomination for Editor of the Week today!

Removing MFD categories from drafts

Is there a reason the bot removed the MFD categories from this draft? Can you exempt Category:Miscellaneous pages for deletion from the categories it checks? -- Ricky81682 (talk) 04:58, 2 June 2016 (UTC)

Here as well. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 09:16, 5 June 2016 (UTC)
@Ricky81682: Thanks for letting me know about this issue and for reverting the bot's edits. I have added the category to the bot's exemption list. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 01:15, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, I don't think people had been taking drafts to MFD until recently. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 04:49, 6 June 2016 (UTC)

Battybot task 25: Malayalam months?

I figured that you would have Malayalam months in Battybot task 25, but I don't see them in the code for the task. I came across this citation in A.T. Pathrose: Dr. Eby P. Joy (30 March 2014). "അലസിപ്പോയ സഭയിലെ അവശേഷിക്കുന്ന സമാജികൻ". Mathrubhumi (in Malayalam). Archived from the original (Newspaper Article) on 2014-03-29. Retrieved 30 മാർച്ച് 2014. cite news: Check date values in: |accessdate= (help)

It looks like "മാർച്ച്" is "March", according to http://www.languagereef.com/flashcards.php?lang=MALAYALAM&vocablist=MONTHS (look on the right side of the page). Could you please add these months to task 25? Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 18:36, 11 June 2016 (UTC)

Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri

My published page Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri was reviewed earlier by some editors. But on 6th July some User:GorgeCustersSabre ruined it. He added this article to deletion. Verify and revert the article soon. Otherwise the page will be deleted. Please help in maintaining Wikipedia. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mohd Sarim Ashrafi (talkcontribs) 16:09, 7 July 2016 (UTC)

@Mohd Sarim Ashrafi: I see you have already posted on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Hassan Mohi-ud-Din Qadri, which is a good start. I suggest you post more information there to support your position that the article should not be deleted. Here are my suggestions:
 • Clearly state why you believe the article meets Wikipedia's definition of notability, and reference the appropriate text from Wikipedia:Notability (people).
 • Instead of providing a link to Google search results, provide additional reliable neutral sources that demonstrate how he meets Wikipedia's definition of notability
Good luck, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 16:45, 7 July 2016 (UTC)

No doubt that Joseph Michael Linsner is a comic book creator. On Wikipedia, Creator is an disambiguation page, not an article. I didn't think there was a good way to fix this disambiguation link, I simply removed the link. Since you've readded the link, I've marked the link with Template:Disambiguation needed for you to fix. Garage rock article

Thanks for your help with the Garage rock article. One thing. I noticed that you removed the publisher info in many of the citations. I'm interested in knowing what the correct method is. Generally, I try to use a complete and detailed bibliographical entry for each referencethe just, as I would if doing a research thesis or dissertaion. For instance, a research paper always requires that the publisher be mentioned in a bibliographical entry. The Wikipedia citation wizard includes a space for publisher, so I'm assuming that Wikipedia would deem it best to include the publisher. I want to use the highest level of academic rigor at all times. But, I may be wrong when I put the copyright signs in there. However, I believe that some mention of publisher is deemed necessary or at least preferable. What is the protocol? Garagepunk66 (talk) 16:51, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

@Garagepunk66: See Template:Cite web#Publisher for the protocol. You don't have to fill in every parameter for every reference. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 16:52, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. Garagepunk66 (talk) 16:53, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

Hi, I hope that you're doin' good... I got to see the Blockheads perform on Saturday at Band on the Wall... And got to meet Derek Hussey, Chaz Jankel, Norman Watt-Roy, Mick Gallagher, and Gilad Atzmon... Derek was very nice, and talkative... Chaz was a very lovely, and down-to-earth man, and I even sort of sang his song "Little Eva" with him, he mingled with the crowd after the show, but most people didn't know who he was!!.. Norman was a wonderful man... He could tell stories forever, and called me "amazing" because I knew his discography better than himself haha, Mick seemed ok, but I didn't get good vibes from Gilad... Oh, and I've done some edits to the Chaz article... Maybe check over them? Unless someone beats you to it haha. All the best, Joe Vitale 5 (talk) 08:20, 15 September 2016 (UTC)

Help needed

Hi there. I've been following your edits on Wikipedia and I wanted to ask if you could assist in improving the article about Zeek an award-winning Israeli start-up. The company's coverage is far more notable than it appears in the article. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Eddard 'Ned' Stark (talk) 21:36, 24 September 2016 (UTC)

@Eddard 'Ned' Stark: I've done some minor copyediting on the Zeek article, but you'll have to provide more references to support its notability so it won't get deleted. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 00:32, 25 September 2016 (UTC)

While we are at it, could you also please take a second look at the article about Sara Skyttedal. Appreciated. Regards,BabbaQ (talk) 00:06, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
The notability of Skyttedal is in question Template:Did you know nominations/Sara Skyttedal. The rationale for her non-notability is far stretched out in my opinion. Clearly she has had several notable jobs within the field of politics over the years. To say that she is non-notable is not correct in my opinion, and that she is not DYK material is also far fetched. But I am the article creator.... --BabbaQ (talk) 00:06, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
In my opinion the discussion that is ongoing at Skyttedals DYK nom should be held at the talk page as it is not relevant to the DYK in respect to the approved review and the fact that there are different opinions.--BabbaQ (talk) 00:07, 26 September 2016 (UTC)

Reference query

Hi, I have come across a number of references like this

News, B. B. C. "Sheffield teacher Lynsey Haycock dies after classroom fall". BBC News. Retrieved 2016-09-06. cite web: |last= has generic name (help)

with |last=News and |first=B. B. C.

Is it possible to find out how many of these there are so that they can be blanked out? Keith D (talk) 21:15, 7 September 2016 (UTC)

Thanks. Bigger job then I thought. Keith D (talk) 10:02, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
@Keith D and Jonesey95: We can get rid of a lot of false positives (e.g. |last=Newstead) with this search. I'll see if I can sic BattyBot on the most common issues. GoingBatty (talk) 16:43, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
That looks more handleable number. Thanks for offering to get your BOT to do it, may be something that could be done on a regular basis to catch new instances. Keith D (talk) 21:10, 8 September 2016 (UTC)
@Keith D: I found the source of the issue - see User talk:Zhaofeng_Li/reFill#Bug report: Adds news source in first/last parameters. GoingBatty (talk) 01:23, 9 September 2016 (UTC)

Done. User:GoingBatty/sandbox2 is the first 500 results from your query above. There were 520 total articles from the search. – Jonesey95 (talk) 05:22, 9 September 2016 (UTC)
@Keith D and Jonesey95: I've fixed half the articles. More tomorrow... GoingBatty (talk) 02:12, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

@Jonesey95: Could you please update the list you posted on User:GoingBatty/sandbox2 (and tell me how you made the list)? Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 03:48, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
Done. My basic process is: (1) Do the insource search linked above. (2) Click "500" at the bottom of the page to get all (or max 500) results. (3) Copy the whole page to a text editor (I use TextWrangler for Mac OS. Notepad++ works well on Windows.) (4) Use the "Process lines containing..." feature of the text editor to find all lines containing "[edit]" and copy them to a new document. (5) Replace white space at the start of each line with "* [[". (6) Replace " [edit]" at the end of each line with "]]". (7) Sort the lines. (8) Copy the whole thing into a sandbox page. – Jonesey95 (talk) 03:58, 26 September 2016 (UTC)

Special request for BattyBot task 25

I just converted a few hundred foreign-language citation templates into their English-language equivalents, resulting in at least one hundred articles with foreign-language dates and access-dates that should be very easy for BattyBot to clean up. See, for example, The Noite com Danilo Gentili. If you have a moment, can you please kick off a BattyBot task 25 run to mop up after my work? Thanks. – Jonesey95 (talk) 05:55, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Help

Hiyo, I hope that you're doing well! Could you please help me with the article Durga McBroom? Thanking you in advance, Joe Vitale 5 (talk) 13:43, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

@Joe Vitale 5:  Done! GoingBatty (talk) 18:25, 18 November 2016 (UTC)

Thank you, could you please also help me with the article Paul Carrack? Joe Vitale 5 (talk) 16:05, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

@Joe Vitale 5:  Doing... - will do more later. You might want to copy some references from other Wikipedia articles into Carrack's article. GoingBatty (talk) 17:01, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

Spacing

Is it possible that the bot should see if there are spaces in a citation template? When changing |author= to |last= and |first=, often there is a space in the citation template in front of the |. The bot doesn't add that, leading to awkwardly looking spacing as in this edit, for example. Debresser (talk) 16:19, 24 November 2016 (UTC)

@Debresser:  Fixed - whatever spacing is used in front of the | for |author= will now be used when replacing it with |last= and |first=. Note that I do not make this change with my bot edits - only with those AWB edits I check manually before saving. Thanks! GoingBatty (talk) 16:39, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
I see. Thanks for implementing this so quickly. Debresser (talk) 18:34, 24 November 2016 (UTC)
Correction - whatever spacing is used in front of AND AFTER the | for |author= is what I use when replacing it with |last= and |first=. GoingBatty (talk) 19:14, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

Uno Card Game edits

Hi. I'm new to Wikipedia editing and noticed that you helped with some "disambiguation needed" edits. Thanks! It's funny, but I'd never noticed that on the page until this morning. Bgwhite recently removed my Cite error: There are <ref> tags on this page without content in them (see the help page). edits where I had release years listed as references. I have a question out to that user requesting my edits be restored. I'm interested in making the Uno Card Game page as complete and useful as possible. Thanks again. BattytBot task #9

Hi. What's the status of BattyBot #9, the WP:USERNOCAT task? Some editors have been manually going through Wikipedia:Database reports/Polluted categories and got it down to just over 1000. It would be great if you could run the bot against the list of categories in that report to get the easy ones out of the way, and then the guys could manually go through the remnants editing templates etc. TIA. Le Deluge (talk) 13:10, 17 December 2016 (UTC)

@Le Deluge:  Doing... GoingBatty (talk) 22:29, 18 December 2016 (UTC)

Hatnotes

I think you already have a bot approval to move hatnotes on the top, don't you? I am looking for someone to take over Wikipedia:Bots/Requests for approval/Yobot 14. -- Magioladitis (talk) 09:28, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

@Magioladitis: User:BattyBot doesn't have a hatnotes-related task. I can't keep up with the bot tasks I have, so I'm not ready to take on another one. Hope you enjoy the holidays! GoingBatty (talk) 02:44, 21 December 2016 (UTC)

Interesting

..that I created the article about the film A Man Called Ove simply because I like the film. I never thought it would possibly get an Oscars nomination and get plenty of hits from interested readers. Nice.--BabbaQ (talk) 12:27, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

@BabbaQ: Congratulations on the article, and god Jul. GoingBatty (talk) 12:39, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
Please take a look at the article about Bahar Pars. A user that I presume is her agent is threatening (users talk page) with some kind of action and is removing her birthdata again and again. If you could at least take a look at it I would appreciate it. Removing birthdata simply because the person in question does not want it to appear seems odd, as she has said her birtdate in several interviews.--BabbaQ (talk) 15:22, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
Never mind they have blocked the editor now. At least for a while. I find it disturbing that celebs try to influence the work of Wikipedia with censorship. Perhaps you could help by reverting back the birthdate. Much appreciated.--BabbaQ (talk) 15:24, 22 December 2016 (UTC)
God Jul and Gott nytt år :)--BabbaQ (talk) 15:28, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

Merry, merry!

Request for disambiguation

Hello GoingBatty, recently you inserted a "disambiguation needed" into the second sentence of the intro to Three Thieves. The word "ettin" is a link to the disambiguation page Ettin, so why is the insert?L3X1 (talk) 03:20, 25 December 2016 (UTC)

@L3X1: I added disambiguation needed because I didn't know if this use of "ettin" was meant to link to Bogle or something else. Now that you've updated the Ettin page, I've removed the link from Three Thieves (graphic novel series). Thanks, and happy holidays! GoingBatty (talk) 03:28, 25 December 2016 (UTC)
@GoingBatty:No problem, thank you! :)L3X1 (talk) 03:35, 25 December 2016 (UTC)

Living people

Greetings. Yobot used to replace Category:Year of birth missing with Category:Year of birth missing (living people) if article has Category:Living people. Do you do this too already? Do you know if there is a bot doing this? Yobot used to do it but it was a long time ago. -- Magioladitis (talk) 10:52, 27 December 2016 (UTC)

This may be extended to more categories. Example. This is not done by AWB's general fixes. I found 250 pages. -- Magioladitis (talk) 11:03, 28 December 2016 (UTC)

@Magioladitis: I have the list of my bot tasks on User:BattyBot, and this isn't one of them. I haven't been keeping up with other people's bot tasks. Would this be a simple addition to AWB general fixes? GoingBatty (talk) 03:40, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

Grep

Hi! FYI, grep is working. At least for me. --Edgars2007 (talk/contribs) 16:29, 29 December 2016 (UTC)

Editor of the Week seeking nominations (and a new facilitator)

In addition, the WikiProject is seeking a new facilitator/coordinator to handle the logistics of the award. Please contact L235 if you are interested in helping with the logistics of running the award in any capacity. Remove your name from here to unsubscribe from further EotW-related messages. Thanks, Kevin (aka L235 · t · c) via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 05:19, 30 December 2016 (UTC)

Why did you think this was not notable? Should it be merged? Bearian (talk) 19:35, 31 December 2016 (UTC)

@Bearian: It was User:Mannanan51 who wondered if the election is notable by adding the notability tag in this edit from August 2015. I simply updated the tag so it links to Wikipedia's notability guideline for events (instead of the general notability guideline) so interested editors like you can either improve the article and remove the tag or submit it for deletion. Thanks, and happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 19:42, 31 December 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. Bearian (talk) 19:47, 31 December 2016 (UTC)

Happy New Year GoingBatty!
