X Operations

[edit]

What part of the xops page did you think needed to be changed (in reference to the fansite thing) Dylan Mather 22:10, 8 March 2007 (UTC) 22:09, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, pretty much all of it, Dylan. There's the opening paragraph which is fine. The first paragraph in the Gameplay section goes a little astray in one or two parts. The second paragraph goes into more unneeded details than the previous paragraph "includes the briefcase" for example - what briefcase? And the "magic keys" isn't really very encyclopaedic at all, or does it make much sense.
From after that its list after list then there's the whole editing and modifying section which is more akin to hacking than any general information needed in the article and may do better on a gaming or hacking site than anywhere else.
Then there's a few more lists and a bunch of external links.
It seemed to me to be an article very, very much oriented towards someone who was really really really into the game and it seemed to also be very devoid of any solid information, save the first paragraph and a half or so. Rather than remove all the information I considered superfluous and then tagging the article stubbed (if it ended up that short) I tagged it a fansite page to best let someone with information or experience on the game sort it out. -Gohst 07:23, 9 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks For The Work On The TISM Page

[edit]

I totally love going through an article and correcting stupid things, only to have them replaced by someone the next day. I'm assuming the best intentions, as Wikipedia tells me to, but jesus...

Alot of the stuff you added was good but not needed. The opening paragraphs are concise as they need to be and they ended up bloated and the lists of songs which went with the themes section was just unweildly. I'm not knocking you, alot of the stuff you added was good but it just didnt fit well in an encyclopedic text. It was obvious though, to me (assuming you are the user omgomgomgomg) that you know alot about TISM. Perhaps then you could help clear up some red links on the TISM Discography to make it look better before it gets added to the main article? Gohst 11:33, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I did some cleaning…

[edit]

Hi, you put a cleanup tag on the article about Niceland. I just added a few extra lines and did some minor reparations. This is all the information I could gathered. So, after I did the modifications I removed the tag. Do you think the article is fine now or it should get more cleaning? I’m asking because I can’t add more information. Kind regards, Luis María Benítez 15:06, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Dark Side of the Moon

[edit]

Hi, you added here some information about an interview with Kubrick's wife that could not be checked, so it was deleted. Could you provide some reference about it? 83.36.81.198 20:50, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I heard her say the quotes I wrote with my own ears when she was in Melbourne, Australia as part of the Australian Center for the Moving Image's Kubrick retrospective. I kept the ticket stub from the event so if you want to know the date she said it, I can provide it for you. Gohst 03:50, 23 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
In that case, I think it doesn't meet Wikipedia standards to add the quote, does it? I have no problems believing what you say, because it's clear the 'documentary' is a complete joke. But I thought you had read it in a newspaper or something! Anyway, thanks. 88.7.8.166 18:05, 24 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

TISM

[edit]

Hi,

I must apologise for the dead space, and accidentally removing your rage photo (twice.) Please go ahead and reload it.

I am sorry you viewed the singles list as over-indulgent. As a journo with ample information on TISM I feel I have 'formalised' the article and made it readible for casual visitors (the previous version seemed more relevant to 'hard core' fans, and delved into obscure details even in the opening paragraph.)

Thank you for bringing me up to speed on some Wiki 'norms' - together we've made the TISM entry a truer and more balanced representation of the band.

PS: do i know you by another name?

It still needs work though. Citations come to mind, most obviously. It's currently rated as B-Class and I'd like to see it higher (see here and here) but to pass Good Article it needs to be hevially cited for a start.
As for knowing me by another name, no I don't beleive so. I think I may have dealt with you through eBay many moons ago, though for what item I cannot recall and besides, it was under a different name (possibly where you got the 'different name' thing from, who knows?) but yes I've followed TISM for some time and its possible our paths have crossed on other occassions. You used to run the TISM website, didn't you?
Back to Wikipedia and the article in question... If you're interested in providing citations for some of the things mentioned in the article, go ahead. I've been meaning to do it for quite some time now but its just such a gargantuan task I haven't been up to it. I could make notes of the glaring things if you think it would help and together we could trim it, tighten it and expand apon certain aspects which might need expanding.
Some day it might be a Featured Article... Gohst 12:08, 18 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree on the citations, and have already been thinking about this and teaching myself how to do them correctly.. (maybe you can point me to an example of how you think they should be written.) I know in my head immediately where I sourced information from. How does one view the 'rating' of the article? 203.47.209.4 02:47, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The rating is on the TISM Talk page. As for doing citations, it's easy. Find the citationable section. For example "Machiavelli is their best selling album." you find a page which has nothing to do with Wikipedia. For example one which lists all their album sales. This may be http://albumsales.com/tism for example. You put that in square brackets next to the sentance. Like so:
Machiavelli is their best selling album [http://albumsales.com/tism]
and it will look like this:
Machiavelli is their best selling album [1]
-Gohst 08:38, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent... that will work most cases. What about where I need to cite, for example the Guide To Little Aesthetics, which obviously does not exist online - Will that require a different method, or footnoting? Thanks for your guidance. 203.47.209.4 07:42, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

At the moment there is a big quote from "The Guide" which is referenced in an external page, the page being some blog which quotes it and gives reference to the book. That suits me fine as a reference. As for an official reference, you'll have to look into how to cite its ISBN number. A few pages around Wikipedia do that. The Beatles' article does exactly that so you might want to use that as your guide. As it stands nothing much hinges on The Guide and come to think of it the Style part is largely verbose and unneeded really. Perhaps taking the main points and smoothing it into the body of the main timeline would be a better way to go with that part. That can happen in the future though... I'm just thinking aloud at the minute. Gohst 10:26, 22 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the compliment on the Honk If You Love Fred Durst article. I plan on doing the same to other songs as and when they pop up in the playlist.--203.70.79.59 18:06, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Freeware" licence in infoboxen

[edit]

I notice you've just added this to a large bunch of game articles. Please be careful when doing so: in at least two cases (BZflag and Wesnoth) this isn't actually correct (they're both GPL, and GPL isn't "freeware") and in Wesnoth you overwrote the existing (correct) licence. Chris Cunningham 12:17, 31 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Now that the infobox has a license category, I was going through List of freeware games and adding the freeware information to the articles. When that was done I was going to go back though and check specifics, but [Teething|real life] got in the way. I didn't mean to override any existing information, as I tried to get them all done as quickly as possible. Also, I figured for the largest part they would all be freeware, as denoted by the articles title through which I found them. -Gohst 23:43, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You made another mistake at Nethack (it was invisible, though: you added a second "license" field, and only one counts). Please check before claiming that games with open source licenses are freeware. Thank you, Kusma (talk) 11:01, 4 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Quoth article

[edit]

hello, i created the Quoth article since single usually have their own articles, including EVERY OTHER SINGLE IN THE Richard D. James discography. if you'd like to talk it over, i'd be more than happy to. --AlexOvShaolin 21:37, 22 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Howdy, I took it upon myself to Be bold as Wikipedia puts it, as the Quoth article had no picture, scarce little information, no stub tag and even if it did, no way (that I could see) that it could be improved, added upon, or extended in any way to make it into a full, stand-alone article. Those were my reasons for moving the information to Surfing on Sine Waves, let me know why you think it deserves its own article. -Gohst 00:08, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Another editor has added the {{prod}} template to the article Platter (turntable), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Image source problem with Image:DAAS.jpg

[edit]
Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:DAAS.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:46, 23 July 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Geniac (talk) 12:46, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I have several pictures of the Doug Anthony All Stars in concert in their heyday (1995) which I can upload under a free licence. Image permission problem with Image:Tism-band.jpg

[edit]
Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Tism-band.jpg. I noticed that that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to [email protected], stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to [email protected].

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the image's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. neuro(talk) 22:31, 3 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

TISM and footy

[edit]

Hey Gohst, you seem an expert on all things TISM. Over the past few months I've gradually beefed up the Australian rules football in popular Australian culture article. TISM seem to be music's most dedicated footy fans, but I'm not too familiar with their discography. Did you want to add info on TISM's footy songs/videos/etc to the music section? Right now I'm just dumping footy songs in there as I find, haha. Once it's all there then it can be arranged in a more coherent and FA-worthy manner. HappyWaldo (talk) 15:55, 17 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Off the top of my head, The Back Upon Which Jezza Jumped and Father and Son and (Jumpin' Jivin') Jimmy "The Ghost" Joyce are very football-centric and there is also the video for Greg! The Stop Sign!! which was filmed at the MCG (I think?) and was an effort to save the St. Kilda football club, I think -- the guy who did Sport's Tonight introduces the clip on the Gold! Gold!! Gold!!! VHS and states this. Oh, and who can forget I Rooted A Guy Who Rooted A Girl Who Rooted A Guy Who Rooted A Girl Who Rooted Shane Crawford or the classic: Shut Up - The Footy's On The Radio. -Gohst (talk) 09:47, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

TISM Rage Appearance

[edit]

Why was it edited and will the full version be made available? FokkerTISM 10:14, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It was edited for the DVD release because it was the funniest bit. The rest of it was a handful of short clips of Humph & Ron introducing shit from the '80's. Rarely were they either funny or interesting and would have been a boring DVD extra. I doubt if the other intros will turn up anywhere, because they're simply not interesting. Except for when they introduce various news theme songs, that was good, but brief. Oh and also "Why was it edited?" because their entire hosing of rage was, like, 8 hours as per a normal guest hosting of rage (including the songs). -Gohst (talk) 00:44, 17 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free rationale for File:Tism-company.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Tism-company.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stefan2 (talk) 14:10, 19 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Root-band.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only," "non-derivative use" or "used with permission," it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. [2], and it was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19, or is not used in any articles. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but do not hesitate to add information that is consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. Stefan2 (talk) 14:11, 19 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Please review WP:BRD. When your Bold edit has been Reverted by another editor, the next step, if you continue to think the edit is necessary, is to Discuss it on the article talk page, not to re-revert it, which is the first step to edit warring. During the discussion, the article remains in the status quo ante. Thanks, BMK (talk) 01:44, 6 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Talkin' 'Bout Your Generation (series 5), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Andy Lee (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 10:22, 15 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

File permission problem with File:Regurgitator 2018-08-10.jpg

[edit]

Thanks for uploading File:Regurgitator 2018-08-10.jpg, which you've attributed to https://www.reddit.com/r/Regurgitator/comments/9tih1e/regurgitator_170_russell_20180810/. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to [email protected], stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to [email protected].

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. ArbCom 2018 election voter message

[edit]

Hello, Gohst. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
