Bristol to do list

Well done for changing the Wikipedia:WikiProject Bristol to do list, but do you think we should use the general assessment criteria for "status" in the list of museums, buildings & other articles which aren't areas (& should this be called places of interest?). We currently use 1-5 & it seems inconsistent.— Rod talk 19:40, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

I've gone and changed the necessary things, can you pass it to GA-status now. Many thanks :) Neldav 19:14, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

I put your GA nomination for Bristol Rovers F.C. on hold. Please see the talk section of the article for reasons. Overall... the article was well referenced, well put together and well written. Please let me know when the one area is addressed and I'll happily review again. Jazznutuva 07:55, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Bristol Rovers F.C. season 2007-08, by PeeJay2K3 (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Bristol Rovers F.C. season 2007-08 fits the criteria for speedy deletion for the following reason:

because the subject matter is non-notable and can be found on any football website

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Bristol Rovers F.C. season 2007-08, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Bristol Rovers F.C. season 2007-08 itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 19:23, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

Jade Goody

Hey,

As much as you might hate vandalism, if you have ever seen or heard Jade Goody then you will understand why her page gets continually vandalised and moreover the vandalism is thoroughly warranted as it reflects the utter hatred for this putrid woman amongst the general public. So it totally bewilders me why anyone in their right mind would want to protect this woman’s page, she deserves everything that comes to her.

If you dont know who Jade Goody is i suggest you read her article on wikipedia, in short she is arguably the most hated woman in the UK at the moment. I suggest you think twice before defending her page in the future.

Vector-images.com image warning

Greetings, You are being contacted by BetacommandBot and by Zscout370. The terms of the website do not allow their images to be used now under our new guidelines. You are being given a chance to relicense the image for about two weeks. If you fail to relicense the image, there is a good chance the image will be deleted from Wikipedia. If you have any questions or concern, please see Zscout370. Thank you. Andrew Wilson - footballer

Hi Steve, Can I pick your football brains/sources? Our local paper has an article about local lad, Andrew Wilson, getting married who was an international footballer - but I can't find any article on wikipedia which fits the info given: age 29, played for Wales v Bazil Nov 1997, signed for Southampton 1992 debut Aug 1997 v Bolton, transferred to Swindon Town summer 2001, later 2 seasons with Bath city as semi-pro. - Do you think this is made up or do we just not have an article for him (yet)?— Rod talk 15:15, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for all the info. This sort error is not unknown in the Chew Valley Gazette. I will contact the paper. Could you start an article on Andrew Williams(footballer) (or similar title)? & I will add the personal life bits which were a feature of the article.— Rod talk 17:31, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Kevan Broadhurst

Hi, thanks for creating Kevan Broadhurst, it's one more off my list of things to do without me having to do it. Also, particular thanks for reminding me who was caretaker at Birmingham before Barry Fry's appointment!

I've filled in the infobox a bit and corrected the appearances - 173 was right for all comps but for the infobox you need league apps only which is 153. I don't know if you're aware of Neil Brown's wonderful players database, which gives league appearances and goals for all post-war players, and is absolutely perfect for filling in infoboxes. There are mistakes in it, but not many, and it's recognised as a reliable source. cheers, Struway2 | Talk 08:55, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Bristol City 06/07 GA review

I've signed up to review this article, but I'm quite busy, so it won't be instantaneous. If that's a problem, just let me know Jimfbleak (talk) 15:37, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

You obviously know what you are doing and it's an interesting and well-written article. A couple of first thoughts.
  1. The first few tables have the headings in a tasteful grey, but the next has no shading, and the transfer tables have blue headings.
  2. The colour scheme of the gif is a bit garish, and doesn't really fit with the colours used in the tables. Is it possible to change the colours?
  3. There is some multiple linking, I've not been through in detail yet, but the obvious example is the player details table, with the repeated links of MF, FW etc.
  4. I've centred the team kit, revert if you don't like it
  5. The bullet-pointed list of awards sits a bit oddly with the rest of the article. Why not make that a (centred?) table too?

Jimfbleak (talk) 11:40, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

On my machine it looks a pinkish-grey, or might just be my eyes! I'm fine with your comments, I'll wait until you've done the gif and then do a proper read through, but I don't anticipate major probs. Jimfbleak (talk) 14:36, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Bristol city coa.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:Bristol city coa.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Debrecen 2006.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Debrecen 2006.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 05:01, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

You're right, it was a long time ago! :) I think it must have been round about 1989 or 1990, I was still at school at the time and we went to this place on a trip during the summer holidays. I can't even remember where the picture was taken unfortunately. I didn't have any fancy equipment though, the picture was taken on a bog-standard, cheap, 35mm compact. It may have been a Yashica, but I can't really remember now. — Gasheadsteve Talk to me 08:18, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Speedy deletion of Nick Higgs

A tag has been placed on Nick Higgs requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Cssiitcic (talk) 17:02, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Nick Higgs

I have nominated Nick Higgs, an article that you created, for deletion. Jack or John Jones

Hi, I'm getting round to creating an article for John Thomas Jones born 1874, who played for Small Heath before moving on to Bristol (Eastville) Rovers in 1897, then Spurs, and died at 29. Is this the same bloke as the Jack Jones who appears in your seasons list as leading scorer? and if so, was he definitely known as Jack, because my books only refer to him as John? cheers, Struway2 (talk) 09:13, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

If he'd been called something less common than John Jones, I wouldn't have bothered checking. At Spurs they called him Bristol Jones to distinguish from the Jack Jones already at the club when he arrived... thanks, Struway2 (talk) 09:35, 12 March 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for taking the trouble, cheers, Struway2 (talk) 22:47, 12 March 2009 (UTC)

See Jack Jones (association footballer born 1874). Name's a bit long-winded but there are a lot of Jack Joneses, including a Jack Jones (association footballer born 1891) which had been (association footballer), and I suspect there are rather more than appear on the disambiguation page. Might have a go at tidying it up if I get really bored :-) Was wondering if there's any convention about which leagues count for infobox appearances purposes, when the club plays in more than one, as both Rovers and Spurs did in those days? Thanks for your help, cheers, Struway2 (talk) 11:50, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

In which case, if and when you have the time ;-) please add the Southern League apps with a footnote saying that's all they are. I've done that several times with recent players where, say, Conference stats were available but Conf South or Unibond or whatever weren't. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 16:56, 13 March 2009 (UTC)

Walter Bunch

Was wondering if you might have any evidence of the player Walter Bunch turning out for your lot at all, or, for that matter, evidence of him not turning out for you? would have been in the late 1890s, possibly when Rovers were playing in the Birmingham & Dist League. I ask because Michael Joyce's Football League Records book and Tony Matthews' Birmingham Complete Record both mention Eastville Rovers between Wolves and Walsall, but the Wolves Who's Who book has him moving directly to Walsall. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 15:08, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the info. I have a theory, which goes: Bunch only actually appeared in Wolves' first team in 1896. They couldn't find a use for him, so allowed him to play for Eastville Rovers, while retaining his Football League registration. So when he joined Walsall in 1899, it was Wolves who held his FL registration, so as far as they're concerned, they transferred their player directly to Walsall. But Joyce is still correct that he played for Rovers between the two. Works for me, anyway :-) cheers, Struway2 (talk) 18:05, 3 April 2009 (UTC)

Hey, made a start. Needs your help for Rovers details!--EchetusXe (talk) 14:48, 15 April 2009 (UTC)

Back again, sorry....

Do you have any knowledge of Charlie Tickle playing for your lot? would have been just before the First World War if he did. I have one "reliable" source saying he played for Worcester City, and another possibly more reliable source saying he played for Rovers, after he left Coventry. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 17:21, 30 June 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for that, I'll stick to Matthews for his playing career then. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 16:21, 1 July 2009 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for File:Joe Haverty.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Joe Haverty.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ww2censor (talk) 19:39, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

League positions graph

Hi there, just wondering what you used to make the league positions graph on the Bristol Rovers F.C. season 2006–07? Was thinking of doing something similar and trying to decide which software to use. Thanks, -- BigDom 21:54, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks a lot, I'll have a look at the link. -- BigDom 09:31, 16 December 2009 (UTC)
Hi again, is there any way to change the colours and number of teams so it can be used for division other than League 2? I don't really use Excel so I don't know what I'm doing... Thanks a lot, -- BigDom 17:23, 16 December 2009 (UTC)

Hi! It seems you recently created an unreferenced biography of a living person: Joe Davis (footballer). Our verifiability policy requires that all content be cited to a reliable source. Please add references as soon as possible. Thanks! --LaraBot (talk) 00:11, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

I've moved it to Joe Davis (footballer born 1938) to disampbigaute with the Scottish footballer. Cheers. Eldumpo (talk) 12:06, 6 January 2010 (UTC)

Unreferenced BLPs

Hello Gasheadsteve! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to this article, it would greatly help us with the current 938 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:

  1. David Mehew - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs· FENS · JSTOR · TWL

Thanks!--DASHBot (talk) 07:06, 2 January 2010 (UTC)

bobbie.jpg

Hi,

I uploaded the file bobbie.jpg to place on the page for Robert Walker. The file came from an image sent on an e-mail from Tottenham F.C. I do not know if the image is copyrighted. Can this image be used in the entry for Robert Walker?

Autoreviewer

Hi Gasheadsteve, after seeing one of your articles at New Page Patrol, I was surprised to see that an editor who contributes so many referenced wp:BLPs hadn't already been approved as an Autoreviewer. So I've taken the liberty of rectifying that. ϢereSpielChequers 18:54, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the Autoreviewer status. — Gasheadsteve Talk to me 13:05, 2 March 2010 (UTC)
