Hi. This is my talk page.

February 2015[edit]

Your account has been blocked from editing Wikipedia with this username. This is because your username, TheGreatPoopMan, does not meet our username policy.

Your username is the only reason for this block. You are welcome to choose a new username (see below) and continue editing.

A username should not be promotional, related to a "real-world" group or organization, misleading, offensive or disruptive. Also, usernames may not end in the word "bot" unless the account is an approved bot account

You are encouraged to choose a new account name that meets our policy guidelines and create the account yourself. Alternatively, if you have already made edits and you wish to keep your existing contributions under a new name, then you may request a change in username by:

  1. Adding {{unblock-un|your new username here}} on your user talk page. You should be able to do this even though you are blocked, as you can usually still edit your own talk page. If not, you may wish to contact the blocking administrator by clicking on "E-mail this user" on their talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked for 24 hours to file a request.
  3. Please note that you may only request a name that is not already in use, so please check here for a listing of already taken names. The account is created upon acceptance, thus do not try to create the new account before making the request for a name change. For more information, please see Wikipedia:Changing username.
If you think that you were blocked in error, you may appeal this block by adding below this notice the text {{unblock|Your reason here}}, but you should read our guide to appealing blocks first. Beeblebrox (talk) 01:27, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock and username change request[edit]

I do not believe there is anything wrong with my user name, since I am an adult and not subject to the same potty-talk rules enforced in a well-supervised preschool or daycare center. However, if Wikipedia still wants to enforce preschool-appropriate vocabulary in non-article content such as a username, and provided there is a consensus on this word being unacceptable, rather than one or two admins' unilateral action, then I need a new username. Although I don't have a edit history to preserve, I still need to keep this account with a new username, and not create a new one from scratch. I use a smartphone for internet, but it would seem that someone got Verizon's IP addresses for mobile data range-blocked. I had to go to a public library and use their WiFi to make this account. I don't want to drive somewhere again to create a new one, and it takes forever to get a response when requesting an account. I need to change to username on this one instead, so maybe I don't have to wait until next week or later to use it. Here is my username change and unblock request:

This user's request to be unblocked to request a change in username has been reviewed by an administrator, who accepted the request.

As the admin who blocked you I would just note the following:

  • No, this isn't a daycare center. It's an encyclopedia. All day, every day, it is besieged by children who think the word "poop" is endlessly funny and add it to articles as well as their usernames. If you are really an adult I should think it would be easy to understand why having "poop" right in your username is not something that instills confidence that you are here to help.
  • While there is nothing wrong with your new username, you seem to be implying that your rights were violated by the block. This is a common misunderstanding. Free speech means that the government cannot restrict your right to say what you want. A privately-run website can restrict whatever it wants, however it wants, and the community here has decided that references to excrement are not appropriate in user names. We also don't allow hate speech usernames, promotional or corporate usernames, or usernames that are over forty characters long. These rules were made by the community here through consensus driven processes, they are not arbitrary restictions on free speech and are not just my opinion. In fact there are parts of our username policy I don't personally agree with, but the community has decided and that's how things work around here. If you want to change it you are welcome to submit a proposal at the appropriate forum, but I should hope you have better things to do with your time than advocate for the right to have an account associated with excrement.
hope that helps. Beeblebrox (talk) 21:16, 18 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not attack other editors, as you did at User talk:Beeblebrox with this edit. Comment on content, not on contributors. Personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you. TheMesquitobuzz 05:56, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please stop attacking other editors, as you did on User talk:Beeblebrox. If you continue, you may be blocked from editing Wikipedia. TheMesquitobuzz 06:16, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Blocked again[edit]

For various reasons, including checkuser, I have blocked your account. I am afraid I have to ask even other checkusers to contact me before unblocking this account. Courcelles (talk) 06:32, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It is established policy that you must include a reason, not just a general category of what technical type of evidence you have. What am I even being accused of, anyway? FreeSpeechDude (talk) 06:41, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I need my account unblocked, unless you tell me what I am blocked for, as per documented Wikipedia policy. Blocking without even saying what I am accused of is a blatant abuse of administrator power, and a breach of policy. Administrators are obligated to respond to questions about a block they issued. I am asking what I am accused of to cause this block.

@Courcelles: FreeSpeechDude (talk) 06:53, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, you have used sockpuppets, you have attacked other editors, and there is one other thing that you know exactly what it was, but I could only actually tell another functionary. So, talk page revoked, contact WP:BASC to appeal the block. Courcelles (talk) 07:13, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
