Temperature with most liquid elements

I suppose you're right in removing that section from the Melting points of the elements (data page) article. Where would ou suggest be a better place to put it? Tompw 17:07, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

I'll certainly feel better if I didn't just delete a contribution, and can only think of the list of elements by melting point, where a discussion of ranges would even blend in nicely with the existing sorting order by temperature. Femto 19:17, 19 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Re: Smart-elements.com spam block

Believe it or not I did intend to block this user after checking the block log to see if anyone had set one already (as I got your message a bit late), but my characteristically scattered brain forgot to do so. Perhaps this frames me as not the most reliable admin, but please don't think I meant to create more work for you by neglecting to address the issue. I've noticed you've been a keen defender of chemistry articles, and I sincerely appreciate your efforts.

Anyway, I've given 62.178.173.218 a 30-day block; the IP appears to be static, but there's a chance someone (either an end user or other admin) might complain if I make the block any longer. If the user continues to be a problem, you might consider requesting smart-elements.com be added to the project-wide m:spam blacklist (which would prevent the URL's addition to all Wikipedias). I see this user also spams de:, so perhaps blacklisting is already justified. (I'd do it myself, but I'm not a meta admin.)

If you've any other difficulties, please feel free to contact me. In the meantime I'll be working to curb my absent-mindedness. -- Hadal 21:01, 3 May 2005 (UTC)

Voting for standardization

Hi. I'm oo64eva. We're holding a vote here to standardize the table and color template. If you have any questions leave a message on my talk page or on the project talk page. Spread the word about the vote, it ends May 12th at 3:40 UTC. — oo64eva (Alex) (U | T | C) @ 03:54, May 9, 2005 (UTC)

STP template

Yo dude! Why did you remove the STP reference from the physical properties template page? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Elementbox_section_physicalprop

I have no idea where else this template page is used so the figures listed under it may not have been for STP, though they were for Hydrogen. We need a reference for these physical properties and STP is a good one.

Keep well, Cyclotronwiki

I need help

Hello VSmith, Femto, Iain.mcclatchie, Skatebiker and Ultramarine. I need help with regards to the damage(in my opinion) done by user Theo Pardilla. Please look at his contribution page, and in the history of some the articles he contributed to, please look at my contributions, under Sillybilly. What is the correct way to proceed in such cases? I'm fairly new to wikipedia, and not well versed in the control methods, if there are any.

Sillybilly 01:05, 29 October 2005 (UTC)

Sorry, no help from me. I fail to see the damage in what seems to be a description of a legitimate economic concept. Rampant linking and rank article growth should be prevented, and some things might better be used to expand Energy conservation first, but even the Criticism of the BBC has as much right to be there as the next page, as long as it's absolutely clear that it describes opinions. Wikipedia:Template messages/Disputes are used to call attention to non-neutrality or blatant inaccuracies. Other than those, don't add judgemental or derogatory notes to articles, but fight it out on the talk pages (and without name-calling, that is). I agree about the confusing number of edits though and will send Theo a message. Femto 14:49, 29 October 2005 (UTC)

Why did you kill my edit? (Pizza)

The link I added was non-commercial and just as valid as any of the others, which you left. The preceding unsigned comment was added by [email protected] (talk • contribs) .

Nomination for adminship

With more than 3000 edits, I feel you deserve to be made an admin and to gain use of the admin tools.

Your RfA

Your adminship nomination didn't achieve consensus. Please look at the reasons voters opposed your nomination and this will be a big aid to succeeding in the future. Many initially failed nominees have gone on to be admins later. Cheers, Cecropia 22:03, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

Summing up

With (13 support / 6 oppose / 7 neutral) it failed, but not miserably so. The only serious concerns were about lack of edit experience in the Wikipedia namespace, time will fix that. Though of course admin superpowers (what do you mean they can't fly) would have been nice, I'm just as happy without them. Thanks to all involved! Femto 12:22, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

Feline1 and Krash wiki-stalking

Thanks for stepping in about Feline1's usual abuse. I'll open a discussion at the list to rename it from "songs" to "music pieces", then we'll see which new excuse he'll invent to deny a mere See also link.

In the meantime, there's another problem: Feline1 and User:Krash (which seem to share the same mental profile) are working in tag-team to own those pages, and Krash is now wiki-stalking me, reverting a perfectly valid edit I made to another article, without even motivating the reversion. Explained on Talk:Brian Eno before reverting back, if you can provide a 3rd opinion.

-- 62.147.37.33 19:02, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

Clarity

I'll take this up with you here rather than non sequituring on Eno talk.

You wrote:(Curious though, under which reversion policy does "You lost your case when you started ranting like a lunatic. Thanks for playing." fall?) I'm not really sure what you mean by that. It has nothing to do with reversion policy. I'm just saying that when some editor (exacerbated by anonymity) claims wiki-stalking, vandalism, and abuse based on two isolated incidences on 2 pages that I happen to watch (when I have no idea that I'm dealing with the same person) I have no recourse but to dismiss their accusations with little more than ridicule. Especially if they never bothered to discuss anything with me until they were making vacant accusations. -- Krash (Talk) 22:16, 6 March 2006 (UTC)

I mean that even if the other side was ranting like a lunatic over an undeserved revert, such an answer does not justify or explain it any more than no answer at all. It sure didn't help to improve the wikiclimate. 62.147's 'rant' has been a civil and factual complaint upto point 4) when it jumped to conclusions (though wrapped in lots of "sure looks like"), accusing but not abusing. From 62.147's point of view, you're cited by Feline1 in the Pussyfooting conflict as a co-reverter, and you might have seen a connection. Though I acknowledge that you have had no reason to and did not. Both sides should be less biased about the other's real intentions before the accusations and name-calling start. Isotope table (complete)

Hi! I don't have the source data, but are the last few edits to Isotope table (complete) correct? --Eddi (Talk) 00:00, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

I've found two specific changes since your sync: Yes, 83Kr is absolutely stable according to all three of Audi, BNL, and CRC (Talk:Isotopes of krypton). The earlier 180Ta edit is a little more tricky. I only could've added "don't really know either" to the discussion, though I've seen it too. Perhaps it's "natural radioactive" because what occurs naturally is (slightly) radioactive, though it's "stable" enough too, or even "unstable" if one strictly adheres to the scheme that metastates go in the border, though then we need to better define "natural". It's a special case that depends more on our definitions than on anything else. Femto 13:08, 26 March 2006 (UTC)

Re.:Luxeon LED

The light is for real. I know WP is not a business link. Just stated where the reader can find a example of this light. I have two of them. One is sold through Sears, the other one is sold through Wal*Mart's SUPERCENTER store. I was referring to the light itself, no more, no less.

The SEARS website has a pix of one of the lights on it, but I do not know how to place it in this article. Martial Law 04:45, 21 April 2006 (UTC) :)

Can this be restored ? Martial Law 04:47, 21 April 2006 (UTC) :)

The LED appears to be like any LED except that it is transparent, has a micro reflector around it, two leads to a square shaped object that when power is applied, you get a BLINDING white light, the top of the transparent construct is 1/2 as high as a "conventional" LED. As stated, I have two of these Luxeon LED flashlights, and the SEARS website has a pix of one of these lights on it, but I do not know how to place a pix of it on the LED article and/or the Flashlight article at all. Can you assisst me in this matter ? Martial Law 05:11, 21 April 2006 (UTC) :)

Continued at Talk:Light-emitting diode. Femto 12:22, 21 April 2006 (UTC)

Octopus redirects

Since I just recently deleted the octopus (genus) redirect, I'm undoing your edits. If I get a chance, I'll make a boring stub with a taxobox and a listing of the species. Or you can do the same. - UtherSRG (talk) 12:11, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

Wha? I replaced the remaining links to octopus (genus) with octopus because I thought you deleted it for its redundancy with octopus (in both title an possible content). You mean there should be a separate article? Femto 12:38, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

Fictional applications of real materials

I see you have been moving trivia to Fictional applications of real materials, too. It has always bugged me when trivia about some Simpsons episode, or something like that, shows up in a technical article. This seems to be a good way to deal with it.  :)

--Ed (Edgar181) 21:24, 24 April 2006 (UTC)

Hehe, I thought about sending you a very similar message. Makes much more sense to collect all these little references under their own, clearly defined topic, doesn't it? No notability or space issues, even more interesting to browse and read in this form.
You have the better overview of the general chemistry articles; is there much trivia left? Would you consider it worth while to mention this page at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Chemistry? Femto 11:53, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
I recollect seeing more, and looked around to find it, but couldn't. Maybe it was removed already. Mentioning it at the WikiProject is a good idea. I'll do it now. --Ed (Edgar181) 13:09, 25 April 2006 (UTC)

Project elements

Hey, sorry about the broken template, I thought it would be easier to change it. Do you know if theres a way to make one variable in a template disappear if its not declared - or perhaps how to initialize the variables? Fresheneesz 17:26, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

Hey, I hope you don't mind - I figured out how to declare a default value for the parameters, and I reverted your edits including those defaults. As far as I can tell, no boxes are broken, and the metastable isomer can still be labeled. Fresheneesz 17:36, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
There were a lot of changes to the template system in the Wiki software since these boxes were designed, including that default parameters were made possible. If it works, that's fine with me. Still, expansions like this that change a hundred articles at once should be announced at the project page. Femto 17:43, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
Ok I'll annouced it. I've verified that it works on every element page. It doesn't cut out anything (erroring if either the element name or the superscript is linked), and all element names in the form X ## look to have articles open for a redirect to a main isotope page. Foray and vandalism

Hello,

You told Foray that continued removal of that text regarding CPF would be considered vandalism. You were incorrect. It is specifically not vandalism. I have no particular feelings in whether or not that text belongs, but I don't like the way that User:Betterthanyouare has spoken to User:Foray and I dislike seeing people throwing about improper accusations of vandalism.

Thanks! kmccoy (talk) 13:48, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

I'm posting this message to both of your talk pages.

Neoballmon, I've removed the section from your userpage entiteld "Femto!", it's a personal attack. Please take warnings seriously in the future, you've shown a consistent pattern of childish edits that are not helpful to Wikipedia. Your creation of the attack pages on several people at your school are particularly foolish. Consider this your final warning: if you continue to disrupt Wikipedia (by posting more personal attacks, or by making more disruptive edits) you will be blocked.

Femto, please try to be more civil when dealing with other users in the future. It is frustrating when editors behave in a childish and disruptive fashion, but it is far more productive to warn them or bring their behaviour to the attention of an admin than to feed the fires of misbehaviour. --bainer (talk) 16:13, 8 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your reversion, but, wha? He has been repeatedly warned, not only by me, and apparently he knows to stop short right before formal admin intervention would become appropriate. Instead of just another (and more serious) warning, I chose to confront him on the nonsense. I respectfully disagree that in my naming of the misbehavior I would have been in any way uncivil. I'm merely accusing him of deliberately adding juvenile nonsense, and by that I stand. Femto 17:20, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
Awwwwww. Doesn't poor little Femto like getting told off? Take it like a man. Yes, I have been repeatedly been warned, I don't think it's necessary do state the obvious. And thanks for saying that I'm smart enough (you didn't say smart, but I know you were thinking it) to know when to stop, but to be honest, I just stop becasue I can't be bothered doing anything else in that line of vandalism or all my options of further vandalism are exhausted. There are warnings more serious than a 24 hour block? What is it? 36 hour block?? Noooooooooooooooooooooo. Please don't subject me to that horrible punishment. I couldn't take it for a whole 36 hours! Thanks for the confrontation, it's been a pleasure. Usually people don't reply to me and they go straight on my hate list, but because you've been replying, you're making your way off the list because of your entertainment values. Those are false accusations!!!! --neoballmon 01:56, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Dispute with Femto

I am pasting my response here (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Cohen%27s_kappa) as I would like to keep it on Femto's record:
"So that you can remove it at your whim? It is very clear that Wikipedia is about spam wars by self-confessed vigilante like you and AbsolutDan, and not about supporting genuine contributions. As you know yourself you violate Wikipedia rules by removing content supported by another editor who has proven that the advertising point made by AbsolutDan is simply not true. As you can see from this discussion records the other external link here never had to be justified (I am not suggesting to remove it though). This is a clear example of your selective, vindictive approach. You made it "contentious" and totally ignored its content. What is "truly free internal content"? How is http://www.6sigma101.com/glossary/cohen_kappa.htm#1 not free? Is it because you cannot see it in Opera?"
If anyone has been victimized by Femto and/or AbsolutDan please speak up. TIA —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 203.214.51.192 (talkcontribs) .

German translation - Barium

Have you read German article? I am from Croatia and I fluently speak and write in several languages - I read everything I lay my hands on about elements (I am currently writing a book about elements). That German page is about one of the best repositories of knowledge about Barium I have found. Please explain why "translated links aren't really helpful)"? Borislav Dopudja 23:12, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

(Re: [1]) The other language Wikipedias are usually kept strictly separate to the common reader (except for the "In other languages" sidebar links). In fact it's the first time I see a machine-translated link to a different Wiki language in the seealso section. With "translated links aren't really helpful" I mean that just linking to another page does not improve the article itself. For the purpose of pointing editors to good content in other languages which might be translated and incorporated into the article, there are FAOL tags from Wikiproject Echo. (See Talk:Iron for example. Sorry, I don't know any details on how they work.) Femto 11:40, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Problem is that other people usually don't know that they could surf German (or other) pages. Including Google Translate link to German article could be rather helpful. Editors, including me, could then take materials from German pages, so I don't see how it can’t be that including that link is not helpful. Article has been rather helpful to me. --Borislav Dopudja 16:37, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Well, there's the interlanguage links on every page pointing people to other languages. Non-editors shouldn't be expected wanting to read machine-translated articles, and editors can gather the same information from links on the talk pages.
Since this is a matter of general linking policy, not just about barium, you could try to bring it up at the village pump for third opinions. Or perhaps suggest at WP:ECHO to expand the FAOL tags with links to external translation services. No, I still think there are better ways for connecting the languages than a translated article link. Femto 18:23, 27 August 2006 (UTC)
Hm.. You may be right. Non editors might have some problems reading machine translated pages. Anyhow, I will see to write a note about link translation. NHF! --Borislav Dopudja 21:25, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

c-r.org

Hmm, looks like we havn't gotten anywhere. I'm going to go through this person's edits as best I can and figure out which links are appropriate, adding a note to each talk page. If you have a problem with this, let me know so we can work out a solution. I do not intend my edits to be a reversion, but rather the honest assessment of a valueable addition by an independent editor. I do hope that we havn't lost a new user, but I fear that we have. Good luck. Smmurphy(Talk) 15:52, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Fine with me if an established editor like you (that is, someone with an edit history consisting of more than just links) adds some external resources. I for one don't consider it as biting to point someone to the appropriate policies (for the third time or so) in a friendly but determined manner. It's easier to add links instead of content; after being so persistent about links, do you think this user would have added anything else in the future? We may never find out, but I have my doubts. Femto 18:31, 27 August 2006 (UTC)

Actually, I did look at the page history, and their histories are too brief to say with certainty whether they are socks, two people working in tandem or two people with a common goal. Blocks are preventative, not punitive; if the activity continues, any one or more can be blocked at any time. RadioKirk (u|t|c) 16:03, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Okay, I did further checking and the first user was blocked prior to the second user's edits, and the IPs all trace back to Ukraine, so I will block Laker1983 (talk · contribs) after all. Thanks for your persistence. RadioKirk (u|t|c) 16:12, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Baseball links

So this TequilaShot guy is upset because I removed his site from wikipedia. He was adding it with a "slogan" stating how his site was the best. If you visit their site, you will see he is an admin. They don't offer anything for free, and their product is very limited. I have openly said that i know the owner of CardPricer.com but i do not work for them or recieve any compensation. I linked directly to their free image repository which does not required you to register in order to view and there are no marketing ploys on that page. It has 27,000 active images and at one point had over 55,000 (i believe they are in negotiations with Topps to include those images again). That aside, the 27,000 images makes it the largest repository on the internet. So i ask, since it appears to fall under the appropriate wiki external link policy, why do you keep removing it as spam? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Tecmobowl (talkcontribs) .

Wolverinegod? Tecmobowl? Why were you signing with a userpage that does not belong to the account you're editing from?
Sorry, I see no relevance at all. Why does the general article on baseball need a link to 27000 images of baseball cards with a superimposed advert link? The link kept coming back without discussion, spam by my definition. Femto 14:19, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

I had the username for the account changed (still me though). It is my understanding that the images are watermarked to prevent misuse. I don't think that has any relevance.... baseball-reference.com is a for profit site, so if you want to uphold those types of standards, they should be consistent accross the board. I actually offered up a discussion on the talk page for baseball. Again, i think many people who are fans of a particular sport would find some reference to collectibles relevant. You removed that site from the baseball cards article as well. I cannot understand how you think sites like oldcardboard.com, beckett.com, and cardpricer.com should be left out.Tecmobowl 17:40, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Better question is, why should those sites be left in. WP:NOT, WP:EL, and WP:SPAM are quite clear, the external links section is not a web directory, and especially not a business directory. Mere collections of links to related websites are not helpful. I actually responded at talk:baseball on how one could contribute to the encyclopedia in a more useful way. Femto 18:39, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Per WP:EL - Sites with other meaningful, relevant content that is not suitable for inclusion in an article, such as professional athlete statistics, screen credits, interviews, or online textbooks. Much in the same veign, I consider a repository of card images equivalent to a site with statistical information. I do not think that you can replace the experience of viewing baseball cards with a text description. It is not only not practical, it is not relevant. There are four sites that have a tremendous number of examples. One example is on the Library of Congress, another called virtual the virtual card collection, a third example is the baseball card project, and the last is the aforementioned Cardpricer.com. As an attempt to not inadvertantly promote the site, I linked directly to the Images on CP. I don't think the VCC deserves a link because most of the images actually came from CardPricer.com. The baseball project may be acceptable, but again, they have a big section for ebay items so i felt that was a case of advertising that directly leads to making money. I personally like the site and find it useful, so if that should be added then so be it. LOC & CP both allow a user to access the information without being signed it, registered, or anything else ... so i can't think of anything more "non-promotional" than that. If the images at CP were marked "Not For Use on eBay" or something like that, i think the point would still stand.

There are a handful of sites which have a vast number of checklists, most of which require your registration and such. Seeing as CardPricer.com provides that, it too could be included. However, since i felt the image browser was less cumbersome and free of any calls to action, they don't deserve two links. I would include LOC, CP, & BCP as they are the essence of what the baseball cards are: images.Tecmobowl 23:13, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

Links to the main pages of commercial marketplace directories (like I removed here) are out of the question. I'm less reluctant to a deeplink to cardpricer.com, but maintain that one educational website with only a few selected images would be still of much higher encyclopedic relevance than ever so many indiscriminate collections where the reader doesn't even know where to start. You won't change my opinion on it, but if you want third-party input, there's talk:baseball card. Femto 12:18, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Thulium broken

Hi Femto, I see you're qute around chemical elements. :) I have noticed that Thulium page is broken, could you please fix it? (I am still not enough wiki to do it myself.) Thank you. --Borislav Dopudja 10:52, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

I don't see anything obviously broken now, nor found any bad edits in the page history. Temporary glitches can happen when they update the CSS on the servers, or something like that. Does it still look broken when you reload the page in your browser? Femto 11:34, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
Yes, it is still broken. See pic -> http://www.borislavdopudja.net/tmp/brken.jpg It is compilation top+bottom right, in Opera browser, in FF and IE it works ok. It seems it is browser specific. Also, it seems that something is rather wrong with the elements wiki -> please see Indium - it is gone. --Borislav Dopudja 13:37, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
Indeed, indium was gone, that's weird. I told the servers to purge the page cache (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Indium&action=purge): indium seems to be back again. I get a 404 with your image link, it appears to be, er, broken... =) I also tried a purge for thulium, did that help? Femto 15:24, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
Thulium is ok now. Here is that link (sorry) ->BROKEN. Indium also works ok now. :) You did a great job Femto! --Borislav Dopudja 20:00, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
Whoa, that's some major rendering screwup. This village pump thread may or may not be related, someone presumably has done something to the wiki software and/or its skins around that time. - "Ah, yeah, well, whenever you notice something like that, a wizard did it." Femto 20:49, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
For what it's worth, I saw similar glitches at aluminium, silver, iron today. Simply reloading the pages helped for the most part, once I had to try a cachepurge again. Femto 10:32, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
Well, I guess that is OK. Wikipedia is still young, and far from perfect. :) With time, it may become close to that. --Borislav Dopudja 20:32, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

Konstable's RfA thanks

Why are you marking my posts as spam?

After adding some weblinks to wikipedia pages I've received the following message:

"Please stop adding commercial or personal-website links to Wikipedia. It is considered spamming, and Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertising. Thanks. Femto 12:07, 18 September 2006 (UTC)"

I do not understand your message because I've only added external links to useful resources from a non-commercial Website. Technick.net is a free NON-COMMERCIAL site since 1998 with the same spirit of Wikipedia. We use advertising on our pages just to pay some of the expenses to maintain it live. I've personally spent thousand of hours to collect useful information and write guides without getting a penny when the internet was as it's early days.

Consider also that the most pinouts listed on Wikipedia are probably derived from Technick.net that was the first collection of pinouts on BSS networks on early 90' and then in Internet.

Also I'm a bit surprised because I notice that you haven't removed links to Websites like "pinouts.ru" that have taken a lot of content from historical sites like www.technick.net just to make revenues from advertising.

So, could you please reactivate the regular links I added? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nicolaasuni (talkcontribs) .

I've just answered to you on my talk page.

This guy has been telling me the same thing; I'm going to put a pointer to all the discussion on the Administrators' Noticeboard and ask for their help in sorting this out.

Baseball card links

Hi, I have a small disagreement with Tecmobowl (talk · contribs) (formerly known as Wolverinegod (talk · contribs)) over some links to cardpricer dot com. I googled and found the above discussion on your talk page. Can you provide any insight into whether links to that site are spam or legit, and in particular whether Price guide should link to the site? My view is that the article doesn't need any external links at all. There's some more discussion on my talk page. Thanks, Wmahan. 02:50, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

I have added back the POV tag that you recently removed. I still dispute the neutrality of the page and this is noted in the article discussion many times. special:chemicalsources

Hi! I just decided to spam some people directly, who I know are very active on chemicals. There is now a wiki running on http://chemistry.poolspares.com (a site created by Nickj from the wikimedia IRC channel, the site will be taken offline again in a couple of weeks), where I have now hosted a small wikipedia. It runs two extensions I have written to the wikipedia software, a special page (for chemical sources, see also wikipedia:chemical sources and a chemform tag (for easy input of chemical formulae). Could you have a look, and comment on it (if useful I would like to try to let Tim or Brion enable it on wikipedia, though I feel some resistance there). Cheers! --Dirk Beetstra T C 17:00, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

extrusion

I noticed that you removed the Zeus Inc. paper link on the "extrusion" entry. When i saw that link, i was suspicous... however, upon inspection i thought that it did provide relevant educational information that was fairly informative. It also did not look like a commercial advertisement or brochure by any means, other than the company logo. I certainly dont want wiki being abused for spam, but i think that we need to be more judicious before we remove something as spam. It doesnt make a whole lot of difference to me whether its there or not. I thought it was kinda dry reading anyway. --Twizzter 08:32, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Actually, i take that back. Upon further inspection of Rsteif's contribs, Zeus is definetely spamming wiki pretty bad. They tried to make it look innocent, too. --Twizzter 08:36, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, some of the links might be passable; what ultimately triggered my removal was their number. Even if we assume good faith, such mass additions of links to a single company will be removed by default. Femto 11:50, 28 October 2006 (UTC)

Femto is a word. Hemto is not, but neither are offensive. I'd answer on the user's talk page - also remember WP:NPA - but it's hiding behind an AOL proxy so is probably easier to here. Femto - thank you for the goodtyping reversions, I'd been hunting that one earlier in the month. --Firien § 11:16, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Well, I guess that Hemto sleeps with the fishes. As a disinterested onlooker (Femto's talk page in on my watchlist because I'm a chem element project guy) I'm a little surprised that somebody can get their username permanently banned so easily, especially as I can't for the life of me see anything offensive in it. I suppose it sounds a little like Femto, but there must be a zillion pairs of usernames that are equally close. Er, what gives? SBHarris 00:03, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
User:Mycroft.Holmz followed User:Mycroft.Holmes around in a content dispute. I told "Holmz" to change the name because it was too similar. Shortly after, "Hemto" was created and entered the dispute, "Holmz" continued to get used. I requested closedown of the account, primarily not because of the name but also because it was used as sock and (presumably just like the account before) chosen for its similarity to an existing name. Ah, so. Thanks. SBHarris 02:01, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

Template:Element

I've already begun working on a new infobox that will eliminate the color1 and color2 parameters, and hopefully make everything much more compact, neat, and easy to use. See: Template:Element2 for its temporary home. I'm hoping to finish by the end of the week. Thanks. --MZMcBride 21:27, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Ah, but so far you've only done the easiest part. See also my earlier talk with Eddi at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Elements/Archive 3#infobox template conversion and Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Elements/Archive 3#Successful example of the use of a single template. There's not even a group number link in the header for all elements, and that's only the first problem. A unified template will have to be able to dynamically create a varying number of entry rows for different forms of data, often with different units, or comments, etc. Femto 21:54, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
I'm pretty experienced with templates. I took a nearly identical situation with U.S. Supreme Court infoboxes and created a unified and complete Template:SCOTUSCase that works with every U.S. Supreme Court case. It too was made up of tens of templates that needed to be merged. I have a pretty busy week, but by Wednesday, Template:Element2 should be pretty functional. I realize that right now it doesn't look like much, but more's certainly to come.... --MZMcBride 23:18, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
Indeed, I see you are! Femto 12:15, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
I found some time to get through some more of the code, and now I'm stuck at ionization energies. I can't figure out why some elements use Template:Elementbox ionizationenergies4 (e.g. Argon) and others use Template:Elementbox ionizationenergies3 (e.g. Barium). I don't see a real difference, but I'm left unsure for the time being. As soon as you respond, I can get through more of the code. To see the progress so far, you can view a side-by-side of the old and new on my user page. Thanks. --MZMcBride 05:17, 31 October 2006 (UTC)
Templates 1, 2, and 3 contain one, two, and three energies respectively, template 4 contains three energies plus a "(more)" link to Ionization energies of the elements (up to 30 may be available of which obviously not all can go into the infobox).
These efforts have to be mentioned at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Elements, would you mind starting a topic there? There may be suggestions for changes and improvements to the box that would be easiest to adopt at an early stage. I also suggest to create a set of working-pages, like I did for the previous conversion at User:Femto/elements e1 etc., where it'd be possible to check all elements with their current data in action and to tweak the parameters before anything goes live. There's no need to hurry, next week or next month doesn't really matter to this project. Femto 12:15, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

Wiki Administrator abuses

Hello Femto,

TheronJ has repeatedly been vandalizing the Clint Curtis page, including the deletion of well cited sentences, paragraphs, the insertion of obvious bias (including the summary of a Wired news article that was completly skewed to slander Curtis's biography). Today he deleted quotes and citations from the Orlando Sentinel.

If you do an intestigation, he is a political activist that vandalizes negativly the profiles of Democrats by deleting information that can be considered positive and adds negative content and does exactly the opposite to Republican profiles. TheronJ insists that this is "balance." If you look on the Curtis page, you will see that Tom Feeney's response to Curtis's allegations has been twice as long as the section that describes the allegations. Under a campaign issues section, he adds Feeney's response to Curtis. It is wrong because the issues do not mention Feeney at all. Not only do these NOT reflect balance, it is a serious violation of Wikipedia's standards that requires action.

TheronJ is abusing his power as a Wiki manager and has had repeated warnings in the discussion page of Clint Curtis and now his user talk page. These flagerant abuses deligitimize Wikipedia and places it in a difficult position of dealing with slander against a living person.

In his last edit, he completly vandalized the "links" section.

Please take whatever action you can to take see that these abuses no longer continue.

Thank you. Rememberkigali 22:52, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, I don't feel responsible for this. Note that sending messages to several individual users usually won't get any more attention than a post at the appropriate dispute resolution pages. Femto 11:33, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
