Hyarr, matey!
Question:
Two of the articles that I have created have been deleted because of so-called copyright issues. See 1 & 2. I find this wrong because, 1, I did not use the source they state, infact I used books & another internet source. 2, Many other people have contributed to the articles. 3, They have been there a long time, & no one has had a problem with it. 4, The person who blocked the articles seems incompetant & foolish, & possibly a past enemy of mine. I think his name is Wikiheak or Wikiphreak. You seem like a knowledgable person, what can I do to get these unblocked, because clearly, I did not copy the info from firstworldwar.com. Sincerly, Spawn Man 23:55, 4 October 2005 (UTC)

Hi, Again:
Hi. It seems you & I are having an unannounced race for the most DYKs, (laughs). Just thought I'd say hi & see if you wanted to talk or something, cause we both live in New Zealand etc. Which part do you live in? I live in the lower north of the south's neighbouring north island. Plus you also seem to be having problems with vandals? I had one, but told him to stop being such a meany. So far he's stopped... Bye, Spawn Man 10:14, 5 October 2005 (UTC)P.S. Where did you get the idea for your name, Evil Monkey?

Hello - Copyright issue help
Am new to wikipedia, don't have an account yet, but i noticed you were listed as being the contributor to an image which is going to be deleted for copyright .. the copyright info from the nasa page where the image is listed (and this applies to all images on that page including the ones from soviet missions) says..
"All of the images presented on NSSDC's Photo Gallery are in the public domain. As such, they may be used for any purpose. NSSDC does ask, however, that you acknowledge NASA and the NSSDC as the supplier of the data. In addition, where the source of the image (by project or as a specific person) is credited in the text, you should also acknowledge that, too.
In addition, NASA further requires that NASA images cannot be used to imply endorsement by NASA."
this is from http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/photo_gallery/photogallery-faq.html#use for the image at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Venus-venera13-right.jpg
Cheers, Hope this Helps, Dylan.

Regarding the images from the State of Delaware. These images are on the website of the State of Delaware. The originals are hanging in the state Capitol building. I wrote requesting permisson to use them, specifying Wikipedia. Jeff Hague, Registrar of Regulations, responded saying they were "not copyright" and could be used. Then a few days later the Curator of the collection wrote me, thanking me for undertaking the project, confirming the previous statements, and asking that I include a courtesy attribution to the collection.
I'm quite sure these images are in the public domain, especially the ones of art done prior to 1923. (see Bridgeman Art Library v. Corel Corp.) However since there are so many Wikipedia copyright watchdogs around the world, I have found it is not wise to make such assumptions without researching and documenting all the facts. So I am now taking up researching copyright law and responding to everyone's sincere and well meaning questions at the expense of researching and writing history. This would not have been my preference, but perhaps there is a greater need for copyright expertise than more history. I hope this helps your understanding of what I have done.

Please check my reality. On Current Events Nov 5 a writer wrote
Gene Robinson, the first openly gay U.S. ordained Episcopalian bishop describes Pope Benedict XVI's response to the Roman Catholic sex abuse scandal by placing restrictions on gay clergy: "an act of violence that needs to be confronted." He delivered the speech at St Martin-in-the-Fields church, in Trafalgar Square. Robinson's appointment has contributed to an open schism in the Anglican Communion. YahooABC and Mr Billion takes it off, I puts it back, he removes the discussion, I puts the discussion back and keep putting the writer's article back. In his discussion he somewhat mildly alludes to sockpuppetry stuff.
Anyway a google search on "robinson" + "bishop" + "pope" is 907,000 articles.
Really, I am not devoted to the article, but to the defense of the original writer's judgement that it was newsworthy. It certainly made the NYTimes and Washington Post. And I really do get uppity when folks just delete stuff others do without discussion, and then appear to erase any discussion against their editorial defenses. And really uppity when they attack writers personally, which is mildly done in discussion by him.
Gosh, it just seems like such a straightforward report and to draw so much attention to deleting it and discussing it, geez, maybe I need to go down to the beach

Ubuntu
Hi Monkey, I see you're a Ubuntu user. I've always preferred Mandrake / Mandriva (for the last five years or so, anyway; before that it was mostly AIX, SCO Unix/Xenix, DG Unix, although I've usually had a Red Hat/Fedora Core box somewhere as well), but I'm setting up a new computer and don't like the way Mandriva restrict downloads to people who don't pay to join their club, and so I've installed Kubuntu (I prefer KDE to GNOME). I'm by no means a Linux novice, but I tend to be a bit lazy about learning new things, so I just do what has worked in the past even though there may be much easier ways to do things that have been developed over the years. Anyway, would it be reasonable for me to ask you some of the basic questions about configuration, or would you prefer I used the more normal IRC channels and ubuntu forums?
My first question is: for my amd64 installation, should I always install the official ubuntu/kubuntu packages only, or can I install packages designed for other systems (when ubuntu doesn't supply the latest version, or doesn't supply it at all). For example. Open Office 2.0 is available, but kubuntu has 1.9.something. I understand that there is no amd64 port of Open Office. To what extent can I run programs compiled for i386. Clearly it is possible, Should I expect to compile myself most of the programs I want to run - not that I expect that to be a problem. Would my life be much easier if I installed an i386 version instead of the amd64 version of kubuntu? Thanks.-gadfium 19:29, 13 November 2005 (UTC)

Neptune - some help needed
Your user page states that you are currently studying astronomy, and I was wondering if you (or a fellow astronomer) could take a look at the "appearance and visibility" section and verify the terms were used and linked properly. Thanks. Pentawing 04:25, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
- Thanks. Of course, I am thinking of getting this article to FA (it is currently being peer reviewed), so if you have any other suggestions, I would appreciate it. Pentawing 04:38, 2 December 2005 (UTC)
Hi there Evil Monkey, I see that you're into astronomy and the Pentawing is talking with you about Neptune. I don't know if you've seen the peer review page, but I just posted a comment asking about the usefulness of angular diameter (since it should be a piece of cake to calculate by anyone who knows what an arcsecond is and that C = 2πr) and the maximum brightness, since for the next 15 years (and maybe forever?) the maximum brightness (at the occurence of some event that the table does not specify) will be +7.8. Including those two columns in the table seems unnecessary, but I'm not an astronomer. Also, I changed "retrograde" to "retrogradation", in an attempt to agree with the articles on those topics. And finally, I added a short description of the table headings to the paragraph above the table, so I'd appreciate it if you took a glance over that and gave me any insight into my other questions. Thanks! --Spangineeres (háblame) 23:29, 2 December 2005 (UTC)

New Horizions "magic numbers"
Hi, I'm making a serial of magic numbers at Talk:New Horizons. According to http://www.spaceflightnow.com/atlas/av010/status.html, The transportation of New Horizons yesterday began at 06:45 UTC on December 17 and the spacecraft is now at "Lockheed Martin's Vertical Integration Facility". I'm searching for such a facility with Google Earth, and I found one of your posts at bbs.keyhole.com, called "Vertical Integration Building", just one mile (1.6 kilometers) southwest to Launch Complex 40, so do you think this "Vertical Integration Building" to be the same thing of "Lockheed Martin's Vertical Integration Facility"? — Yaohua2000 06:45, 18 December 2005 (UTC)
- I doubt if this building is the one New Horizons currently in after some additional research. Perhaps the "Lockheed Martin's Vertical Integration Facility" to be this one. — Yaohua2000 07:48, 19 December 2005 (UTC)

Hi Evil Monkey,

USS Leonard F. Mason
Your move of Leonard F. Mason (DD-852) to Leonard F. Mason is directly in opposition to the naming conventions of the WikiProject Ships. Please see Wikipedia:Naming_conventions_(ships)#Disambiguating_ships_with_the_same_name
Relevant guideline is: If there's only one article for a given ship name, you should still pre-emptively disambiguate it, creating a redirect from the plain name:
- There was only one Wilkes-Barre in the US Navy, so USS Wilkes-Barre redirects to USS Wilkes-Barre (CL-103)
This means that when a second article is written about another ship with that name (and so the plain name becomes a disambiguation page), you don't have to go round fixing all the links. It also means that you don't have to check each time you link to a ship whether or not to disambiguate.
Please move the article back and fix the link in the Gearing-class template. If you want to recommend changes to the naming convention, feel free to do so on that talk page. Thanks. Jinian 11:31, 7 January 2006 (UTC)

dirty jokes
I just want to clarify that your stated reasons for leaving a dirty joke in the middle of an article about Neil Armstrong are 1) because we can and 2) it's an "important" dirty joke because it's been repeated more than 58,000 times. Dirty jokes have been told and repeated about famous people since time began, but I note that they're not included as "important" facts in biographical articles other users have written, only yours. It is apparent that with Wikipedia one gets what one pays for. Gemini3.JPG
Just a little question about the file Image:Gemini3.JPG, which was uploaded by you under your previous identity of Enceladus. I was wondering where you got it, as it appears to differ from what I believe to be the official one. It could just be that there were two patches for the mission, as there were for the ASTP. If you require more information please see Image talk:Gemini3.JPG. Thanks. --GW_Simulations 18:57, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
WikiProject Launch vehicles
In an effort to reinvigorate the project, I've begun the process of discussing the current WP:LV standards, which I think are deficient in a number of ways. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Launch vehicles/Standards discussion. Ingoolemo talk 21:01, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

Vandalism
You reverted attempts by User:128.187.197.110 to vandalise the
twice. Well done man!! I had noticed this because I have the template on my page and thought someone was vandalising my Userpage, 'til I tracked the source down, but by that time you had sorted out the problem. Someone should ban the owner of that ip address from editing. Dessydes 23:39, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Shenzhou image copyrights
there's no so called strict copyright holder for those pics, becoz they r public pics in Chinese websites and everyone every website, book, newspaper can use them freely. i maintioned "copyrighted" but it wasnt ture en even the foto takers they dont want to hold the "right". the situation in Chinese areas is that if a pic isnt free, there would be remark words either in the paragraph or the corner of the pic...free, without words... that's why i feel strange about them...

Commons-l subscription
Hello Evil Monkey,
as per commons:Commons talk:Administrators, I am asking all Commons admins to subscribe to commons-l, a mailing list for Wikimedia Commons policy and project discussion. Since many admins are only on Commons infrequently, this is a good way to alert people about important happenings. The mailing list is nominally multilingual, but predominantly English.
If you are already subscribed to commons-l, I apologize for bothering you, and you are free to ignore this message. If you don't want to use your regular e-mail account, feel free to leave me a message, and I can send you a GMail invite. Traffic on the mailing list is relatively low, and we do not expect admins to read all messages to the list, but it would be nice if you could check on it at least every few weeks. Thanks for your time,--Eloquence* 23:04, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Death Penalty Map Error
(Image:Death penalty statutes in the united states.png) The upper peninsula is coded as white in the picture, please color this in to "blue" to indicate the law in Michigan's UP 141.217.221.212 16:48, 8 July 2006 (UTC).

Heat wave news
Thanks for taking a look and making a minor edit to the news item I added, it's my first. I added because it seemed to me that the multiple deaths was more news worthy than a record high temp. The reason I added the bold to the articles is to indicate, consistent with format on the Main Page, that the links are not the the U.S. nor Europe, but instead to heat waves in those places. Better editing might fix, but I haven't been able to work it out. Does it make sense to you to revert to bold? Castellanet 01:03, 20 July 2006 (UTC)
Hi from Invercargill
Hi, I got all excited when i guessed your name is "Jeffery Simpson" and that you are a couple years older than me, but is that really a current you in the picture in your gallery? If so, im wrong, I thought you were a guy from my school St_Josephs. Sadly I guess you aren't. Its good to see another New Zealander my age on Wikipedia. --Dafing 01:09, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Assistance needed on Commons
Hi. My name is Thor Malmjursson and I am providing a weather service to Wikicast, the audio broadcasting service currently in development from WP. I need to ask for assistance to delete files from Commons. I am uploading a 24 hour weather bulletin every day to the commons upload, until Wikicast has its own upload space. I need the previous days forecast deleting every 24 hours, or information on how to replace a file with a new version so as not to take up too much space. Could you please contact me at my talk on Commons, or here. Scratch that. Files are not getting deleted, simply archived.
Thanks, Thor Malmjursson 09:05, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
Amphibious cargo ship
Thanks for working on that article. Is there any particular reason you removed the hull numbers from the ships that were at Tokyo Bay? Hull numbers are important identifiers of ships, and are liberally used in DANFS and other reports about ships. I think they belong in this list. Lou Sander 05:02, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
- They probably should be there then. I was more just putting italics on the ship names. Be bold :-) Evil Monkey - Hello 05:47, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Hi, Evil Monkey. Can you take a look at the licensing information for this image? It is said that it's from an album. If it's true, it can't use the {{promotional}} tag. Let me know if you need any help. Best regards, --Abu Badali 15:15, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
NZ Government Crown Copyright
Hi, I work for the NZ Government.
You have edited a list of government agencies, and note that only about 50% of them have their Crown Copyright statement worded in a way that makes the information available for Wikipedia use.
If you can explain the issue, I'll see what I can do about the 50% that are not available. Presumably some of the websites will be using stock commercial images, which will only be for use on the website, but the information/text should be freely available.
This would be complying with principle 7 of the Policy Framework for NZ Government Held Information: http://www.ssc.govt.nz/display/document.asp?navid=222
Thanks.
