POV

[edit]

In response to: 1. If you believe I'm promoting a POV that is out of bounds (an allegation I was NOT blocked for) please, please file a complaint at a noticeboard. I'm trying to create a cordial convo with an admin. So go away. Wikifan12345 (talk) 07:09, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

POV pushers are rarely blocked just for pushing POV, and complaining to noticeboards is almost useless, especially in the case of Isr-Pal articles, where a coterie of "usual suspects" can be counted on to defend virtually any action by their side, creating enough noise, confusion, and doubt that neutral admins rarely if ever intervene. Somehow I suspect you're aware of both of these factors. And your idea of "cordial" is pretty unique ("cordial...go away.") <eleland/talkedits> 19:05, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If I recall, didn't you call someone a Zionist pig at Israel apartheid analogy and was blocked for quite sometime? I see you've removed several pages of blocks while other info has been archived. I really don't care and if you feel my POV is being shoved on List of terrorist incidents, 2009, please make it known. Wikifan12345 (talk) 19:13, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
"If I recall," you don't. <eleland/talkedits> 19:14, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Let me elaborate on that comment. I have, in fact, been only peripherally involved in the Israeli apartheid article, have expressed sympathy with some of the concerns raised by pro-Israel advocates regarding that page, and have been nothing but civil and constructive. This hasn't stopped me from earning such commendations as, "eh, im glad to see the israeli bashing lefties like eleland and tirpse are hard at work once again at poisoning the jewish/israeli image into nazi-esque portrait." At one point, discussing the legal status of Gaza after the hitnatkut, I cited no less than seven sources, including three highly respected human rights organizations, two academic experts in the relevant field, and a respected, conservative, Israeli newspaper, all making the same relatively simple point - and received in response, "am i supposed to take you seriously eleland? your questions can be answered quite easily. im just not going to waste my time. use google. but of course, you dont want answers. XD." Who was the uncivil, arrogant, bombastic POV-pusher fucking up the discussion in this manner? Why it was... you, Wikifan. So, kindly, stop your constant false insinuations of antisemitism, stop your relentless propagandizing, sit down, and shut up. <eleland/talkedits> 19:30, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I read the first two sentences and fell asleep. Wikifan12345 (talk) 19:32, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Read a book, you troll. <eleland/talkedits> 19:33, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If he nodded off after a mere 42 nicely crafted words, I doubt that the otherwise commendable advice that he read a book will, if put into effect with, say, 'War and Peace' produce anything more than cosmic snoring, whose vibration would complicate an already compromised tectonic stability over here. Keep well, Eleland.Nishidani (talk) 20:41, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Lol. Wikifan12345 (talk) 21:05, 11 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Civility and over-statments

[edit]

Heyo Eleland,
I'm feeling as though these comments have been a distraction to the discussions "ffs, will you quit it?", "OMG PALLYS ARE EVIL", "sneaky diversion [by Ynhockey]", "I see no reason to present Liberman as ... a bloodthirsty killer calling for even greater atrocities." - "his crazy outbursts", "Just say what he said, and leave it at that."[2][3][4]
Warm regards, JaakobouChalk Talk 03:20, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Hamastan

[edit]

Just bite the bullet and AfD the damned thing (I'd do it myself, but I don't know how).
--NBahn (talk) 00:43, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding your post, I can only request that you tell me when that happens so that I can back you to the hilt. I personally respect Jaakobou, but I firmly deplore his invocation of Safire. —Preceding undated comment added 01:08, 19 April 2009 (UTC).[reply]
--NBahn (talk) 01:20, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, well, well. That didn't take long..... Once more into the breach, dear friends....

A Correction regarding Jaakobou & William Safire

[edit]

I was mistaken when I stated that he was endorsing Safire's views. I regret the error.

“compact”

[edit]

Claiming that “sources of all stripe” call The Independent “compact” in no way refutes the point that “compact” carries with it a judgment about quality, which is a value judgment. It's easy to find sources that note this tie to quality; for example, The History of the Times by Stewart defines “compact” to mean “tabloid-sized quality daily”. Nor is the pejorative “bizarre” a good argument, especially in the face of sources for the tie to quality having been presented on the discussion page. It's quite clear why an editor would want an article not to itself make value judgments. What is not clear is why anyone would insist on the use of “compact”, when “tabloid format” is already in use, unless it is exactly to push the notion that the Independent is a quality newspaper. —SlamDiego←T 03:53, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Give it a rest. You don't like the Independent, fine, whatever, I don't even read it and I don't care. Get off my talk page. <eleland/talkedits> 04:00, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You're failing WP:AGF and WP:NPA. I neither like nor dislike the Independent. —SlamDiego←T 04:18, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
What are you, twelve years old? You think that spouting three-letter-acronyms which I've "failed" is a substitute for sensible argumentation? You're repeatedly removing a reliably sourced descriptor based solely on your personal views of what that descriptor implies. And also, get off my talk page. <eleland/talkedits> 04:19, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for weighing in with this btw, for what it was worth. I've met some "pov-warriors" in my time here, but never thought I'd meet a self-styled "npov-warrior" with a determination to sweep aside any language that vaguely, possibly, if they over-interpret the word in question, might set their finely-callibrated pov detector twitching - even though it's, er, the term that everyone uses. I guess I'll knock this up as another example of madness over one word, where another editor eventually bullies and bores everyone else into submission. --Nickhh (talk) 17:09, 22 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed deletion of Robert Johnson (terrorist)

[edit]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Robert Johnson (terrorist), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Classic WP:BLP1E. Attempts to source have failed.

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. — Jake Wartenberg 23:06, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Were you referring to me?

[edit]

"If you still want to argue this, please do so with proper formatting, and without such devices as SCREAMING IN ALL CAPS about the international Communist conspiracy."

I only chose that format so I could counter each of his dubious statements separately, by the way he never answer my questions or try to refute me again.

One more thing I would like to know if you have any information about major Mitrokhin`s life and his work as senior archivist in charge of the moving of the KGB archives from the Lubyanka headquarters to the Yasenevo central.

Do you have access to any evidence to refute this?Agrofelipe (talk) 18:16, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Note

[edit]

It's good to know Jaakobou is concerned for my welfare, but just to say you have my full permission to bring my username up or refer to anything I said on that page, at least anything said during the period I was "allowed" to comment there of course. I am mildly annoyed about the ban, but more because I think it's farcical and counter-productive, rather because I'm personally affronted or hurt in any way. Good luck with finding more "outrage inducing events" for inclusion. That is, of course, how serious encyclopedias are put together. --Nickhh (talk) 18:00, 15 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

ps: my research suggests the IP editor (who does count of course as an editor, it's not forbidden yet) is somewhere in Cairo. I checked that, in anticipation of an RFCU being filed against me

pps: please tell me as well that this comment itself isn't some appalling breach of the topic ban ...

You redirected Rummel's Law to the page about Rummel himself... but the bottom of the article has "See Also: Rummel's Law", which is a circular reference. Jaakobou is claiming at ANI that the text an IP editor has been trying to add to Operation Defensive Shield was added by two editors who were banned (see here). The article List of alleged collaborators has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

This article is unsourced and constitutes a POV fork

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
